What did you do for your ZHP/ BMW / MINI today? #2

I had an intermittent hesitation on starts (would not fire up first crank), turned out the air intake boot was torn in 4 places. Glad I found it before it kept running w/ a messed up AF mixture.

I replaced with Rein upper and lower boot (the lower boot was not torn but I changed both "since I'm in there") and did a quick cleaning of idle control valve.
The OE BMW pieces are made of a different material than the Rein. The OE BMW is like a rubbery plastic (NBV was printed on the piece) whereas the Rein is a soft-but-firm rubber ("PVC+NBR"), if this makes any sense at all. Also, the opening of the Rein pieces seemed to be a few millimeters larger in diameter than the OE BMW piece. Just ensure the hose clamps are tight.

Glad to report the hesitation at startup is fixed and the car is generally more smooth, which is expected now there's no leak after the MAF.

Engine oil and filter, engine air filter, cabin air filter, wipers replaced. Also changed FCAB as the car developed a slight "thunk" / "thud" when apply brakes. The passenger side FCAB was failing. Disappointing the FCAB lasted just under 50k miles.

These are some great updates, fellas.

Not today, but I added BavSound speakers to the ZHP. I noticed crisper sounds, but less mid-bass/"fullness." As ZHPizza mentioned, they seem to sound better after a few months. Overall, very pleased. The HK system sounded good, but I didn't notice how "muddy" they sounded as compared to the BavSound setup. I do wish they had more mid-bass and that "fullness" though, but it's not a big deal - just use the sound adjustment to +1 or +2 on the bass setting.

can confirm that the sound improves after all the drivers start breaking in. my HK+bavsound setup sounds incredible and clean after a few months of use - did yours change at all?

Has a small mishap with the car and bike - turns out bikes do funky things when the tire is completely flat. Luckily, zero paint damage.

Has anyone with a facelift coupe used one of the aftermarket Chinese lenses from eBay/Ali Express? I wonder how good the fit and durability (UV exposure) it has.



Edit: picked up a used left (broken) headlight for like $80 shipped to me to scavenge the OEM lense from. The website car-part.com is quite useful!
