View Full Version : RANT: Damn PSS's already getting noisy at about 11k miles

NOT happy! I put PSS's on the ZHP about 11k miles ago, and they're already getting VERY noisy. I had PS2's on the Z4MC before putting PSS's on it too, about 2k miles ago. I've also had the original PS's years ago, and they got very noisy, but not until a lot of miles (20k+) and the PS2's weren't as bad on previous sets I've had. Now these damn PSS's are pissing me off, WAY too early to be getting noisy IMHO. I ASSume I'll go through the same thing on the Z4MC too. Also, the tread wear doesn't look so spectacular on the ZHP at this point, I'd say they look like they're wearing faster than PS2's have for me in the past, when it should be just the opposite.

No other complaints, they've been a fantastic tire, but on the ZHP in particular, I want some QUIET to go with my stickiness, and I'm disappointed in a big way.

Anyone else experience this?

As far as I know, you should expect about 20k out of tires on ZHP's, 30k if you are very lucky. I'm not surprised at all.

Quiet tire recommendations would surely be helpful! I only have experience with bridgestones and well... They suck. Haha

My pilot sport A/S's are nice and quiet! Best tire I've ever used hands down

Uh oh. More data points needed. I got PSS tires recently and currently have about 1000 miles on them. Amazing tires - wet or dry. And currently silent. I'm "gentle" on tires so looking forward to many miles and quiet. We'll see. I'm running 38psi all around. Will update group as the miles accumulate.

A bit high, no?

Are you staggered?

My PS2's weren't that loud, but I was able to hear them. I look past it since they were awesome tires. I just put more PS2's on my car on Saturday..

I just think it's the tires. To try to make sticky tires that are both quiet and last a long time is quite a feat IMO

My PS2's aren't all that loud. Oddly enough only on one highway are they loud. The tread wear is pretty terrible though. Mine are damn near bald in the rear...

A bit high, no?

I have the stock setup and run 35 psi front, 38 psi on rears.

I had a set of Continentals on my last BMW and really liked them. They were decently quiet and had some good traction.

My current car came with a set of Pilot Super Sports and I am loving them. Hopefully they last a while because I don't want to spend the money for them.

My PSS's have about 8,000 miles on them. So far they have been great and seen 4-5 autocross events. I understand where you are coming from, but personally if they last close to their warranty of 30,000 miles and continue to perform well in dry and wet, I will just turn up the radio if they get loud!

I might try the Bridgestone RE-11A next time around, I hear good things about them for autocross.

I have about 10k on my Pilot Super Sports, absolutely love them, but I would say I only have another 10k IF I am lucky, but not noisy at all! Also have done a couple auto-x and performed extremely well, as expected! Will buy again.

How is your alignment? My cousin had issues with his Yokohama S Drive's after a few thousand miles and then they got really noisy.. He had cupping on the tires and a in-proper alignment (actually had a track set-up but he never tracked it..) which lead to the tires wearing funny..

My alignment is spot-on, it was done just before the tires, when I did a suspension reset. Car tracks perfectly true, no odd wear at all. Just noise.

^Did you eyeball the tread wear or actually measure the tread depth at the inside and outside of the tire?

We've had members in the past who reported noise, indicated that the tires were wearing evenly (visual) and then discovered when they took a tread depth gauge to the tire that it was wearing faster on the inside shoulder leading to said noise.
