What do you all thing about this for $225.00 ?

Overall I don't really like the shape of them but they are a tad smaller than the m5 replicas.

Actually you know what.... I feel that the base and part of the housing would be able to fit/retrofit into the standard square side mirrors. If that is actually similar enough I may want to test them out to have auto folding that way. Just a thought of course.

$225 is a lot of bread just to take them apart and see if you can retrofit them...

I don't think those match the lines of the E46. That looks more like what the F30 should have, IMO.

Oooh . . . I've been really wanting to retrofit some power folding mirrors, & have recently been considering black mirrors (a la the 135is); these might just be the ticket. And do you think these come with the aspherical glass, as the picture seems to show?

What about used OEM ones that you can paint? Also, separately, (thinking someone PMed you), please post or provide Matt the reunion group shot when you get a chance.

Call up Khoalty and see if you can get a pair to be a "test monkey"

Is the auto fold as easy a retrofit as they make it sound? Just those mirrors and the correct switch? I though it involved more.

Am I missing something? From the link you can apparently choose E46 sedan or coupe and they claim PnP, so they should fit without modification no? I think that's a solid find. The stock rectangular mirror on the sedans is an eye sore for me.

I thought that the base that mounts to the door was different on coupe's vs. sedans.... if these are truly PNP they are not terrible, still gotta factor in paint and the switch to allow auto fold though.

BavarianZHP

Sedans and coupes do have different mounting base plates. However, the link gives you a choice to select between sedan or coupe fitment - I'm assuming from this they give you the correct base so there's perfect fitment.

Yes, Coupes exact fit. Sedans nope, modding required.

John,

From Khoalty's web site I found this for these Performance Side Mirrors.... apparently they make them for sedan fitment as well...as you can see in the pic below, the Performance Side Mirrors are mounted on a sedan...

Ahhhhhhh, okay. Yes the OEM M3 side mirrors do require modding the base plates to fit sedans. Then you have to swap over the OE mirror motors to have them work inside the M3 mirror housings so there's a lot of work involved to have these function like OE mirrors but in the long run they are worth the effort :thumbsup

Hmmmm going to say do not want on those mirrors... the effort required in fitting oem M3 ones is well worth it! (See Charlie's sig abovee)

Does anyone have an idea on how much painting would cost? $225 is a tad steep but if the mirrors are spherical I may be able to justify it to myself. Lol

I am on my phone so I'll have to look again when home but these look kinda tempting.

Especially is painted to match the shadow line trim/piano black grills.

I shot Khoalty an email about these:

Hello Khoalty!

I have a question about E46 Performance Mirrors that I saw here: http://www.khoalty.com/bmw-e46-sport-side-mirrors.html

I'm wondering how the "power autofold" feature works: do the mirrors fold in (like sedan mirrors), or up (like coupes), & is the interior mirror switch with the power fold button required, as well? Also, do these come with the aspherical "blind spot" glass, as the picture seems to show?

Thanks!!

Travis
"Crickett" on ZHPMafia.com
Hello,

The mirrors will fold just like the coupes, they will bend up. The mirrors will need a switch from the dealership that you need to purchase so with a hit of a button, the mirrors autofold up on a push. Nothing else is required.
They do come with the blind spot as shown :)

-Kevin

So:
1. The mirrors fold "up" like coupes.
2. Power folding requires the power fold mirror switch (P/N 61 31 6 901 383).
3. These come with the aspherical glass.

I think the bigger question would be the motor and compatibility with the ZHP ribbon set up. What would they say about this?

I am going to email them today and try and get a test set out of them.

If I take a bunch of pics and do a day for them they may go for it because I agree the angle and lighting make them look weird on that car.

No Bueno.

They said they have already been testing them for the last year and that the included instructions will show everything you need to do so that you have auto fold.

I asked for more pictures since the one they have posted is a bit weak.

If they send me any pics I'll post them up.

Just spoke with Dean. He says that they are plug and play for preface sedans and coupes, 04+ coupes wont be compatible but face lifted sedans will be OK. Plug and play meaning the ribbon is fine, just need the new OE switch and the mirrors. He says they will have 3 different fitments (since the mounting is different between models). He said within two weeks they will have a full inventory of them, and they are shooting pics of them in the next few days.

Call me crazy, but I like my OEM rectangles, they just seem to "go" with the car's lines... I do, however, wish they did cool stuff like fold up and I still need to get the aspherical glass someday.

Marcus, there's nothing wrong with liking the OE "flag" style mirrors that come with our sedans :thumbsup I found them boring so I went with OEM M3 side mirrors for a more aggressive look. Of course, there was a lot more work involved to make them fit and then work as OE mirrors but it was well worth it to me to have them mounted right :)

As I'm starting to come to a realization, OEM M3 mirrors, as well as auto lights/wipers is a very involved process, one that I'll probably learn to live without... :crying

Jon,

It takes a brave and determined soul to tackle these projects and I will eventually have auto lights/wipers and TPMS retrofitted into my '03 ZHP. While there will be those who will have long since sold their ZHP's, I will still have mine. That's the plan so why not retrofit all of these fine things into my ZHP? ;)

Tnhl1989

Just read three DIY for rls. A lot of work involve but challenge accepted.

As for tpms it actually is a fairly easy mod. I believe that you can actually retrofit a button of any kind to work with it as long as the other end is grounded. At least that's what a tech told me.
I just plugged it all together into a m3 switch panel. No DIY for this guys. Chad did it first and will create a DIY when he does I'll include my videos and writeup.
