I sometimes do it at fill up and I sometimes will change it if I drive the interstate to work at 75 and reset on the way home on a 55mph side road or sometimes if I'm driving in city traffic. The differences you see can vary greatly.

I do every tank or if I'm doing a long trip I reset it before the trip and let it run for however many tanks the trip takes.

I usually calculate MPG based on mileage and how many gallons I put in the tank, so I dont really use the MPG. Every once in awhile i will reset it before a road trip. Heading to tahoe this weekend so probably will again. :)

Agreed. every fillup is normal. On track days, I reset it before the session sometimes to see my track session mpg. it's usually below 8mpg. hahah

Agreed with others for the most part. I leave #1 MPG alone and track my lifetime mileage. I reset #2 MPG at every fillup. I also reset average MPH at every fillup too.

MPG only gets reset before roadtrips. I don't care about mileage any other time, and also later on, I can look at my OBC and feel good about the good gas mileage since I know I don't get that during my normal commute. It makes me feel better about my gas mileage.

I reset every fill just in case something weird happens and my fuel is sucked away mysteriously. I will be able to tell from the OBC. Knowing what my approx mileage is between fill-ups is a good self check on my driving habits and what the engine is doing. I'd rather not go into gallons/trip everytime to figure it out. :)

Yep. I get about 100 miles per 1/4 tank... Give or take. More at the beginning than the end.

As a mild hypermiler, I'm pretty precise about my fuel consumption - I fill up every Friday after work regardless of how much or little I've driven that week, I reset MPG and MPH at every fillup, and I manually calculate my fuel economy in a logbook. Using the OBC is redundant and less accurate than my logbook, but the regular resets allow me to monitor any car-health issues affecting economy before I get to the end of the week. Also, the regular resets keep the meter 'lively' and responsive to changes in driving habits, which helps me encourage myself to drive economically.

I don't think I have ever reset the mpg on the OBC. I like to get an idea of how the overall mileage is trending. I was having battery issues on my X5d and the OBC was resetting itself at random times. I was more bothered about having the data reset than the battery issue itself. Must be my engineer tendencies...
