I've just received my silver cube trim! :rockon

RockyWoody (ebay seller and ZHP mafia family member) was even kind enough to throw in an EXTRA trim piece since one of the tabs was broken on the original one... However, it's a completely different shade: a cool dark grey/titanium instead of silver. I'm assuming it's this color because it's absolutely brand new?

Whatever it is, I like it!!!!! The dark grey pops the cubes out a bit more... So is your trim silver or titanium?

The visual different is stark and apparent, no mistake it's much darker and will not match the rest of the set...

Whoa! Interesting. Im gonna have to check this tomorrow. I believe its more towards the silver though. Maybe the sun does this over time?

Mmm...I don't think a different shade was offered. Something affected the trims appearance..imo.

Could've been repainted. Hard to believe that there are different shades.

My guess is that the original trim has gotten lighter due to exposure to the sun over a lengthy time? I know this is one of Botond's concerns as he got my OE silver cube trim and when compared to my new ones, mine seemed a shade darker than his. Same thing here. Anyway, that's my guess...I reordered all of my interior cube trim directly from BMW and know the silver cube trim came in one color.....no variations of silver cube trim in their parts system...

What did you end up paying for it?

Dane, I listed the "dealer cost" in my project thread...$725.53

If I didn't jump on them and had done some research, I would have found the same exact set at ECS Tuning and have gotten them for a reduced cost but they still run over $600 for a fresh never used set.

I cannot over emphasize the color difference, night and day IMO. So beware if you're buying only part of a set then. This one will no way match the rest of the set. It's like polished steel vs dark titanium. LOL. Like silver vs Dark grey/blue.

should match my Silver Cube interior trim since it's new...;) Remember...I replaced all of my silver cube interior trim with brand new pieces...

^^^ Pic please would ya! Oh, this item is being paid forward, so if your trim piece is new (yet scratched/broken) go ahead and grab it in the pay it forward thread. Then you could pay yours forward... Thus continuing the cycle of life.

Maybe it's the elusive titanium shadow trim out of a GTR? Yeah, probably not but that would be cool.

I have found that the new silver cube trim pieces are darker (just like shown in this thread) when compared to the OE silver cube trim. I'm sure it has to do with the trim pieces being exposed to UV lighting from the sun over a period of time. Similarly to what you see with the rear deck when they were black originally and over time they tend to turn purple because of the UV lighting....

I will take updated pics of my new silver cube trim tomorrow when I have some free time and post them. Unfortunately, I do not require any silver cube trim pieces as all mine are intact. I'm sure someone here could use this center piece. Just remember guys/gals, if you get a new silver cube piece it will look darker than the rest of your OE trim. Not that they are a different color, this is how new pieces come from the factory.

Hmmmm, yeah. I prefer the brand new looking trim (that extra $$$ may be worth it!!!). It can even appear black at certain angles, it's that dark grey:

I think it will look great if it all matches. No worries.

Yep, I'm giving the darker one away. The part is date stamped. Darker one being late '10 and the more silver set late '05, so newer = darker.

I like that darker shade a lot.. I think it'd go great in a black interior. Maybe in the distant future I'll see if I can procure a set like that - if I can find one

I don't think they fade. It probably just comes darker due to a slight change in the manufacturing process from early batches to later.

Argh, I had to install the darker one since the lighter one has a broken tab. Oh well... Lighter one is on Pay it forward now.

If the broken tab is the one closest to the steering wheel, then you'll be fine still installing that, it'll still hold in there just fine...

It's only darker because it's newer. It'll fade over time.
That is why I can't just buy a new passenger dash trim piece; it won't match the rest of my trim. Not like the temporary black cube piece I have in there does, but whatever. :(

Wow! Really!??? Damn, I thought no way in hell it would hold securely. Wouldn't it rattle around since the other side isn't clipped in either? I mean it's compressed by the other trim piece but it isn't held.
