A good friend of mine in Nashville needs a new water pump and T-stat installed in his 2007 328i at 110K miles.
His search landed him at dealerships that wanted $2000 and other shots-in-the-dark Indys that wanted $1000.
Clearly, this should not cost that much. I searched our list of BMW mechanics (http://www.bimmershops.com/) and saw "Import Auto Maintenance" in Nashville or "Akin bimmer world" in Brentwood.
Can our good folks around Nashville provide some insights and recommendation please?

Never heard of a 'go to' shop in the Nashville area. All seem to be hit or miss.
I'm a little over an hour south of Nashville in Manchester, TN. A few people at work drive Bimmers and talk abut a reasonable place close by. I'll see what I can come up with but , it may take me until Monday. I'm a DYI or dealer guy so, I've yet to try them.
As for the Water Pump and Thermostat and coolant, the OEM cost would be around $300.00 without labor.

I don't have any experience in the Nashville area but you might try to contact some of the BMWCCA local chapter members:
http://www.bmwcca.org/node/2362
Chapter web site:

The latest newsletter has the email addresses of the officers at the bottom:

Then there are these two sites for BMW service specialists:
http://www.bimrs.org/
http://www.bimmershops.com/
Checking RealOEM.com for a 02/2007 production E90 328i with the N52 engine shows the water pump to be $493.xx and the thermostat to be $118.xx.
01 Remanufactured coolant pump, electric 1 11517586925 $493.75
02 Thermostat 1 11537549476 $118.16
Good luck!

Thanks a lot for all that work! Didn't realize the pump was so much more than in the E46!

Yep, checking ECStuning, pump and T-stat are about $500. Assuming 2 hours worth of work and he should pay near $650. Still nowhere near the quotes he got.
This is the info I got with the quote "very good and reasonable, takes them 2 days because they find the problem then order the parts". FYI; from Bavauto; Water Pump - Pierburg $ 369.95

My friend ended up going to a place called Treehouse racing (http://www.treehouseracing.com/new/). Check it out this place makes its' own CAB! and many things BMW.
Parts: pump $428, thermostat $115, + $240 labor ($80/hr).
Beats the dealer by a bunch. Hope this helps others in need.
He was very happy with the people, nice and friendly, didn't try to add unnecessary parts etc... He would recommend the place to people in the area.
Thank you all.

Small world! Wonderful that they make these funky CABS and don't overkill the clients. The green CABs are for the E36 though.
