But yours in better visual condition. It was an NYC car for 2 years before I got it in August so there are plenty of scratches, a misaligned bumper, and some curbing on the wheels. I wish my ZHP could be as immaculate as yours, but that takes money I dont have now. I'll take care of it all in the spring, then I'll be rolling hot!

Hey, I hear you about the conditions of NYC. Ouch.

And I will be looking forward to your car after the spring.

86,019.....bought it 14 months ago with 70,400. It's just too tempting to just go out for a drive with no particular destination! Found it online and bought a cheap one-way plane ticket to Las Vegas to go and check it out before buying it. I was more than happy with the condition but did go out on a limb buying it without having a PPI done and without having any records other than what Carfax showed. Also the BMW dealer I bought it from wouldn't give me the PO's name so I could try to contact them. So far I've had no issues other than needing a DME update to get rid of a miss between 2800 and 3000 rpm under a load in the higher gears.

It seems to me that it was well taken care of. For example when I did the Beisan Vanos seals install the valve cover gasket was nice and soft which would seem to indicate that it had been replaced at some point. Also the Vanos seals still seemed pretty snug so it may have already had them replaced. I was glad I did it though just so I could have a look-see at how the valvetrain looked as far as sludge etc.

Here's a link to a couple pics.....

http://mrmaico.smugmug.com/Cars/BMW-ZHP-misc/IMG0416/848689629_Ke7zr-L-1.jpg

Also since it was from Vegas there isn't one spot of rust anywhere, pretty amazing really. Most bare metal underneath could pass for new.

And just an FYI, you can pull up your odometer without having to turn on your ignition by just pressing your trip meter reset button.

When you do a quick reply, do you see the 9 items listed above the text field? One is a picture icon.

You click that and you insert the url that you want your picture to point to.

So it looks like this: INSERT URL HERE

Let me know if that works.

MrMaico
11-04-2010, 05:34 PM
It doesn't seem to be adding the IMG tags when I click on the "Insert Image" icon but I added them manually here and it worked. Not sure what's up. I have posted lots of pics before on vBulletin message boards so I should know what I'm doing.???

PM me so we don't clutter up Dane's thread.

So what failed? Or did you get hit?

2nd paragraph last post. I would re-type but I'm on my phone. My worry is the level of impact the car took hidden things could be broken. The shock tower is mushroomed cracked and shifted- the main issue.

danewilson77
11-23-2010, 06:33 AM
So...the shock tower just failed outta the blue? Damn.....never heard of that one. Did you have indication of mushrooming before this?

Glad you, or anyone else escaped injury...

Marcus-SanDiego
11-23-2010, 06:43 AM
zhp, that looks bad. If there is enough damage under there, this could be a total. My biggest fear, when stuff like this happens, is that there will be a lot of damage and the insurance fixes it.

Please keep us posted.

Marcus-SanDiego
11-23-2010, 07:36 AM
For whatever reason, our cars tend to be more expensive to insure. I'm thinking it has to do with the cost of repairs when accidents do occur.

In my unprofessional opinion, this looks like a total. If you see this not getting repaired to your satisfactory, be sure to take it to your favorite auto body shop (so they can shoot it and declare it dead).

zhp43867

I don't want it to be totaled obviously. However, if the level of damage is such that it should be and they try to fix it anyway I will not be happy. I'm not going to know the extent of the damage until it's on a lift.

Marcus-SanDiego
11-23-2010, 08:25 AM
If it does end up being totaled, just be sure to replace it with another ZHP.

Yep, and the car just gets better. Obviously I have to keep up with the preventative maintenance, but I knew that going in. I haven't found a situation yet where I said to myself, "Man, this car just isn't any good here." That's even in LOTS of snow, DSC OFF (all of the way off), snow tires mounted, in the 6,000 blizzards of last winter.

Speaking of that - put the winters on this past weekend. Pic coming to wheel/tire forum sometime this week.

What's up with two cars then??

Marcus-SanDiego
12-08-2010, 07:23 AM
What's up with two cars then??

Uggh. Happened by accident, actually.

I was buying this ZHP for my wife -- who was getting sick of babying my 335 (watch bumps, don't hit a curb, avoid that thing over there, etc.). She wanted a car that didn't have to be so pampered. My 335, in other words, was too pretty for her. So, I was buying the ZHP for her.

Anyhow, after we picked it up, I knew that I did not want to turn it over to her! This had to be my car. That was actually convenient, because I was going to use this as a commuter car each day. The office is 40 miles round trip each day. But then, for whatever reason, I started working more from home. At first it was just twice a week. Then it quickly became four times a week. Then it was exclusive. Next thing you know, I'm taking all calls at my home office.

As a result, the ZHP does not get driven very much. Ditto the 335.

My wife and I have been discussing the situation. We're thinking about ditching the 335 and keeping the ZHP. We see no point in letting these depreciating assets just sit around. They should be driven.

To make matters worse, we have a Jeep that logs most of the miles for us. Most of our errands, which consist of cramped shopping center parking, require us to drive the Jeep. I am not driving the BMWs to dingville.

You can now see why the cars don't get much use.

danewilson77
12-08-2010, 08:53 AM

Well, she is able to drive either car. Doesn't bother me. What's more, she can buy another car if she wants one. She has chosen to stay away from the 335. She's an at-home mom to be, so she doesn't get out much either.

ok, so...it's a long story but I'll try to make it short and entertaining (btw, first post for me)...Being in the military I bought my 06 Imola red in Germany on May 07, brand new, 3 miles on the odometer. Then deployed for 15 months, came back Sept 08, soon after break in it was winter so, of course it went to storage. A couple of good european road trips after winter put me in 8k miles. Later I moved to Hawaii, a year later, another deployment...not to bore you guys anymore, its currently around 17K mostly driven by my wife. Doesn't it makes you cry?

Now I know you have to be frustrated by this. I would. Even though I do not drive the car very much, I at least have the option of driving it whenever I want. It would suck to know you have something, but can't use it.

Don't be sad.... years from now you are not going to remember that you had to sell your car for less because of its mileage, you are going to remember the good times you had with the car. In my book, putting on miles on the car means you are getting most out of it.

Thanks Marcus. This is the 3rd winter in a row now that we've had more snow and cold than normal. They're already predicting major flooding for the Red River valley (Fargo). Looking at pics from last year I had my car out on Jan 18 but we're going to need some warmer weather before I will take it out this winter. I've only got about 1/4 mile to go to get to a highway from home but the street from here to there needs some melting first and finally the forecast is looking like that might happen next week.

Haven't used the camera in a long time so I didn't know there were some smudges on the front lense. That kind of ruined the pics I took. :(

What I forgot to mention was that I forgot to take my camera with me on that trip (it was a pretty long trip), and by the time I got back, it was at 88,887. It was a veeeeeeery close call! I had enough time to go in the house, get the camera, and drive down the street and up the on-ramp to take that pic. I had about half a mile before it ticked over to 88,888.

Glad I had time to get the camera, otherwise it would have been a crappy Droid-X pic. :rofl

That's two of you over the past several days. 88,888 popular among the mafia.

Georgia is further away than I remember. You must live in Asia then... No wonder I have put so many miles on my car in the last few months. :rofl

I'm embarrassed to say that I have not driven the car since January 21.

Still at 59,640 miles.

Might wanna think about picking up a battery maintainer.

No kidding. I'm thinking you're right. Mike Miller recommends a battery tender in his maintenance schedule.
