Picked up the new toy this morning.

The transaction went off without a hitch. Previous owners drove about an hour from their home in rainy sleety conditions to meet me at my hotel. They represented the car as mechanically up to date and cosmetically excellent, and it exceeded expectations. Flawless paint, unbelievably clean and well maintained interior. Steering wheel needs a little rehabilitation. I drooled over the car for a while, we drove to their credit union, and title was transferred quickly and efficiently. Oh, gosh, all of a sudden, she's mine. Big thanks to the POs, nice, honest folks, and a pleasure to deal with. A little air in one tire, topped off with some expensive 93 octane, and I got a 260 mile shakedown drive from Asheville, NC to Richmond, KY. Mountains would have been even more fun if it weren't raining all day.

So, this car and my 325i steptronic are technically both E46s, the same year, and virtually the same mileage. Certainly are different in character, in every way possible. The ZHP sounds incredible, handles like a BMW should, and it's not an M3, but it sure puts down power like a 325 could only dream of. This is my first BMW manual transmission since my '84 E30, and I may have forgotten just how good they can be.

I was torn between a sedan and a coupe, and I have to say, I'm very happy I went with the coupe. Nice change from the sedan I already have. Especially in Imola, this is one very attractive car.

So far, couldn't be happier. Might drive it another 3 or 4 hundred miles tomorrow

Wow, Smart Car? Harsh. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/04/05/yse7y9ur.jpg
Hope this abysmal quality image, from a rest area in Tennessee, in pouring rain, displays. Never tried this from Tapatalk before.

Well congrats on a smooth pick up! She's beautiful and sounds wonderful.

I hate you were in Asheville and at least David or I couldn't buy you a congratulatory beer or sweet tea! How'd you enjoy the scariest section of I-40 in your new precious, and in the soggy rain at that!? (I hate that section of road, had way too many close calls, and seen too many gruesome accidents.) The curves are fun, but the tractor trailers are scary.

Best wishes on the rest of your journey home!

Thought about seeing if any of you locals were around, but it turned out to be a really quick visit. Sellers live up North along the Parkway, and when the weather started looking skunky, they hightailed it in to town right away, so we could get the deal done and move out. I-40 was really hairy, rained like an SOB all the way from Asheville to about an hour north of Knoxville. Visibility with all the trucks throwing up spray was zero, especially with the dark tint on my windows. But we got through it. Made up for it today. Beautiful sunny day in Kentucky, took some time to hit the backroads, toured Woodford Reserve distillery, hit a Diners, Driveins and Dives burger spot for lunch, then visited Churchill Downs in Louisville. Car hasn't missed a beat. Got to get back to Kansas City tomorrow - this car really needs a good wash job.

The ZHP learned all about small batch bourbon in Kentucky this morning.
