Scares me to death, but if its as easy as it looks someone could get a sweet deal.

I'd be all over it if I didn't already have mine.
Why are you so terrified of it? It's just stolen parts (if the ad is honest). Not a problem.

Looks good to me. Is that mystic over natural brown?
Just needs an OEM or Dynavin navigation unit, and remove the ///M badge, and it looks set...

Te passenger carpet molding is gone, there are some kind of odd angle eyes that aren't all working, the nav unit, the hvac control unit may have some issues, and the stock air intake box is gone. Theft recoveries scare be because you know they were beaten to the max when they were stolen. Know body ever stole a car, and then drove it respectfully. East coast cars scare me right now too. All that said, I think this is the prettiest color combo BMW ever made in any car ever. I hope it gets bought by someone planning to return it to its former glory!!!

Things I noticed that I would closely at:
- radio/nav unit gone, that's obvious, but did they take it out properly or just cut the wiring harness? Replacing that wiring harness could be a PITA.
- air box gone, tab on expansion tank missing, probably was a BMW Performance Intake so understand why it's missing.
- angel eyes are loose in the headlights, doubt that was from gentle driving.
- interior passenger side carpet edge trim missing, what wiring did they mess with in there?
- wheels look brand new, if this was a stolen car one would suspect they took the wheels, so are these some cheap aftermarket wheels? Also, if they stole the original wheels, did they set the car on cinder blocks or drop it on the ground? What could they have messed up in the suspension or other places under the car?
- it was a stolen car, how gently do folks drive a stolen car? What other problems could be lurking? (A friend of mine had his 1970 Buick GS conv stolen a few years ago, it was recovered the same day minus the wheels, radio, battery, air cleaner, carburetor, etc. the odometer showed the car had only been driven 15 miles but when my buddy got it reassembled from the insurance claim, the engine had a spun bearing from the car being roughly thrashed, necessitated a bottom end rebuild.)
- M emblem on the trunk -- poser alert, lol.
Might be a decent buy if you go into this with eyes wide open and look at the above and the whole car carefully. And then plan to keep it a long time because it has a branded title that likely makes it harder to resell this car.

Was this the car that was bought from Appleton, WI a couple of months ago and then driven to Texas? We have a thread here somewhere about the new owner picking up the car and driving it home, believe he was a former USAF guy. I hope it wasn't.

I don't think this was the car from WI. That car had more miles I think.

lol what a scummy seller.
"I'm gonna sell my car, but I'm taking the factory nav out, as well as my upgraded airbox because I don't want to sell those. But I'm not going to replace them either, I'll sell it like this and let the new owner take care of it"
What is the world coming to?:facepalm

FYI- the description states it's a theft recovery vehicle.

..and they stole the navi and supposed bmw perf intake? I guess we should keep an eye out around the e46 forums to see who has a new navi and perf intake! Only an e46 guy would probably know any better than to take those two items

I wouldn't blame the seller. Removing those items would only lower resale value. Thieves are usually knowledgeable about what they're stealing.
Something about this car just seems off. Sweet color combo tho.

Why does it have a clean title even though it was stolen? Is it because no one reported the car being stolen?
Avetiso

Clean rebuilt title is an oxymoron. It's not clean, it just doesn't sound as bad as salvage. They are essentially the same thing, just small discrepancies between states. For example, Iowa rebuilt titles (aka salvage) will register in California as clean titles, not salvage with other states having similar changes. Florida non repairable titles will register in California as salvage while not being allowed registration in Florida (unless they are registered in California or another state first and then sent back to Florida).
Tl;dr Clean title doesn't mean much, cars can go to hell and back and still stay clean title clean carfax.

I'm that guy but this is not my car. My car looks like a theft recovery at the moment with the rear seats and trunk all ripped out but I'm just putting in a stereo.
Avetiso is absolutetely correct, and the CARFAX on this car is awful to boot. I'd avoid it if it was $8k...let alone the 11,600 they want for it. This dealer is a known scammer in the area.
