View Full Version : ECS Tuning - Kind of bumming right now

So, recently I've ordered a few things from ECS because it seemed they are a good company and tend to be priced VERY competitively! However, my orders have not gone flawlessly...
1. Ordered Performance rotors and Black Grills. Rotors were great, however, upon installation, the grills broke with the slightest push. Thankfully on this order they sent me new grills and ate the cost of the first set.
2. Ordered the BMW Performance intake. Broken. Two of the clasps were broken and could not create a tight seal. That just won't work for me. Have an email out to get my money back on that one too.

3. Got the new grills and tried to install again...broke - AGAIN. They broke with even the slightest pressure so I looked a little closer. They are actually not even the right size. They are for the correct car, but are about .25" - .5" too wide and don't even fit in the cutout. These will be going back as well, and I will hope to get my money back here too.
4. Only the rotors and second set of grills have come in any sort of packaging befitting a BMW part. The intake came without a box, wrapped in bubble wrap with brown stuffing and the first set of grills came separated, without a proper box, in the same packaging material.
Needless to say, I am disappointed by ECS and my experience with them. However, it seems that many of you guys order from them without problems. Are these just a series of unfortunate events, or is this normal for ECS?

I've ordered a lot from ecs over the last couple of years. Have never had a problem.
My intake came bubble wrapped with brown paper stuffing as well. It was in perfect condition.
Sorry you're having a bad stretch of luck with them.

I'm planning on ordering the intake strut bar and grill soon...
I was pricing things out with Tischer BMW (www.getbmwparts.com) as they seem to have decent prices but After talking to the parts guys at Kuni I might go with them. After shipping their prices are nearly the same... Plus I occasionally get 15% off parts coupons in the mail from Kuni. The parts guys there are pretty cool, they were telling me all sorts of things about Online vendors selling "oem" parts... I don't think I should repeat it here tho. haha.

I though most guys had good luck with them. What did Kuni tell you Six? You can send as a PM :)!

Why PM? If it's reliable info and not just hear say trash talk, I say let it fly. Isn't that why we are here?

Alot of positives here for ECS, Tischer, DDM, etc......but anything can happen on any given day.

I don't think it would be the delivery guy who actually delivers to our office (I have them shipped to my work), but that's not to say it couldn't be someone else along the way. None of the exterior of the packages appear to be damaged though...hmmm. Perhaps I just have had bad luck with them?

I think this is a pretty isolated incident. Sorry bro....

The delivery guy should never be at fault, unless the package was intentionally damaged. If something gets damaged during shipping, it's because the shipper didn't package the item adequately. If the damage wasn't intentional, it's always the shipper's fault.

It seems like a lot of people have had problems with broken clips on the intakes, and not just from ECS. Faulkner BMW was the other vendor I have read about with the clip issues. I can't imagine sending something not packed in a box though.
Were the grilles BMW Performance or aftermarket? I have a pair of flat black aftermarket ones that I didn't care for the looks of so I ordered a set of the BMW gloss black ones and the quality of the parts were so much better from BMW....of course, they are twice the price too.

I ordered a set of rotors with no problems from them, they did come in the BMW box, although I would have liked them to be double-boxed. In terms of the grilles breaking, are you doing this in the cold? Cold plastic is much easier to break than 'normal-temperature' plastic (70f).

I just ordered from ECS for the high performance rotor deal. The delivery guy dropped them on the doorstep (people in the house hear a mighty clang) but a visual inspection showed everything is fine. They were individually wrapped and boxed.
I have had bad experiences with other after market dealers. Caveat Emptor. Especially with internet companies - modern day mail-order but worse.

Here's how my CF strut brace box showed up from ECS today:

I certainly don't blame ECS for that-- hazard of shipping companies.
What I am happy to report is that the the box was loaded with packing peanuts and brown paper, and the strut brace was wrapped in thin wrapping foam and was undamaged and in perfect condition.
