Hey guys,
I'm picking up wheels next weekend and I have two (maybe 3) choices. All of them are Miro 111's that we all know and love so much, but I'm stuck on sizing. I'm staying 18s, no question. But! I found a squared set of the rears for sale (18x9.5 et40), the regular staggered set for sale (18x8.5 et35/18x9.5 et40), ORRRRR I could order a new set which would give me some sizing options. 18x8.5 et35/25/22 up front, or 18x9.5 et40/22 in the rear.
Clearly, the rears don't need the lower offset, the et40 on a 9.5 is pretty aggressive. Should I square the fronts, go with the regular et35, or go with the et25 to ALMOST match the concavity of the rears?
I'm in an 05 vert, Broadway Static coilovers, about an iPhone off the ground as of right now. I need to raise it up a little bit, and be able to fit at LEAST a 235 tire in there. I don't want to sacrifice performance for a stance, but find a happy medium. I've read through all of our stickies looking at sizes, and didn't see any in there.
That said, I know there are some sedans running the square set up, so with some camber and a wee bit of stretch, can my vert fit it as well?
Thanks in advance, fellas.

IMO, 9.5 is too wide; a 265/35 tire fits a 9.5" rim well, & that'd be really aggressive for fronts. Out of those options, I'd personally go for an 8.5 et 35 square setup. :thumbsup

I thought that at first as well. That would be four "fronts." I know the Miro staggered set was made to fit our cars, so I know the 9.5 will fit in the back. The 8.5 et35's aren't all that agressive, which is surprising given the numbers.
I searched around and dug this up on E46F.com:
http://www.e46fanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=873793
Some of our members are in there as well. I see the square set up on Brandon's car, but I don't think he's quite as low as I am at the moment. I can't find any pictures of the 8.5 et25 just for a reference..
Thanks for the input, Crickett! That's definitely one of my options still.

You need 18x8.5

I am not a fan at all of the 18x8.5 et 35.
Go more aggressive so my vote is 18x8.5 et22 and 18x9.5 et22.

8.5" ET 35 will fit very well in the rear, and what I bolded.. the 9.5" ET22, won't even be close to fitting in the rear.
My vote is the 18x8.5 et35/18x9.5 et40 combo. It will fit nicely, but will probably require a fender roll in the back.
18x9.5 et 22 will fit with a fender roll and a slight pull if needed. I know a guy that is running this exact setup which is basically m3 size.

Yeah, there's a few guys over on e46f with similar set-ups and they have constant problems with the set-up. You need a lot of camber and stretched tires to do it.
If you are after proper fitment, that's what you do.
Rolled fenders and stretched tires plus dial in the negative camber and there will be no issues.

yea except that sacrifices performance. which is something he doesn't want to do. i thought fitting 18x9.5 et35 on my car was hard already. no way i would do et22 lol

Exactly. I would rather not run a stance-only set up on my e46. My e30 is a stance queen, and that's how I'd like it to stay haha. I think I'll see if I can get some pictures of fitment from Miro. I'll post updates. Thank you for all if the input guys. Keep it coming!

Let's just set one thing straight... "Stretched tires" are NOT correct fitment... That's a deliberately improper fitment purely for having a wider rim. Personally, I think it looks silly...
If you want proper fitment, go with 18x8.5" up front and 9" out back, or go square with an 8.5"... My wheels are 18x8.5" ET35 all the way around... Fitment looks pretty good, and I'm running a 245/35 tire all the way around, again for a correct fitment.

I'm with Dalton. Go staggered and push the fronts out a bit with spacers to even them up

Its not for everybody but that is the proper way to do it if you want to go low and have a proper stance that is flush.
And stretching tires let's you go low.
And if you are after " correct fitment ", you wouldn't undersize the tires meanings stepping down in width.

I agree, if you're going for extreme low, sure, slam, tuck and stretch all you want. But we all know that performance is compromised, as well as safety and roadworthiness. And its extremely hard on tires... I just think its a waste of time/money...
But as we all say, to each their own...

When you say "stretched" are you talking about putting them on a rim wider than is recommended? I see that all the time here in L.A. but I can't imagine anyone that cares about handling doing it.
The width of the rim will definitely effect the sidewall profile and contact width but there is an acceptable range. I looked up my 255/35/18 Michelin Pilot Super Sport's and Michelin gives a rim width of 8.5-10". That's a pretty big range and they would look quite different on an 8 1/2" rim vs a 10" rim.
EDIT***
This wasn't aimed at anyone in particular I'm just wondering if everyone is on the same page

I've done many a research on wheel fitment, because I was trying to figure out any way possible to make 9.5" ET35 fit in the rear of my car without having to stretch, camber, and roll/pull fenders. I didn't find any way. :rofl
(The 9.5"ET35 wheel I was set on was the concave APEX ARC-8, since the lesser widths/offsets didn't come in concave)

Yes, thats what people are talking about.
Michelin tires have a beefier sidewall compared to most other companies. So their 255 width tire on a 10" wheel wouldn't look the same as other manufacturers 255 tire would. It might be noticeable, but you'd probably have to be looking for it.
Any images of what a 9.5 et35 looks like on the e46 ?

Thank you for understanding. I don't agree with tire stretch. I have friends running 225's on 9 and 10 inch wheels to make things fit. That's asinine if you ask me. I do enjoy the look of the squared up 9.5s from a purely aesthetic standpoint; they look great. But there is a sacrifice in drop, and a a 9.5 inch wheel up front is a lot of wheel to be throwing around corners. I think I might go with the 8.5s. I know the 9.5 will fit in the rear, but I'm going to have to roll the fenders A LOT and go up a good bit in the rear (and the front to match). Jupiter, do you have pictures of your car that I could see for fitment? Or a link to a thread in here with pictures?

Look in the link I posted, the black sedan has the 9.5 et40s on his car with a 5mm spacer to flush them out. ESSENTIALLY, it's an et35.... If you can deal with the 5mm not being in the wheel itself.

No sir, I'm still doing a little more research and hearing some opinions. My E30 has 16x8's on it with a 22 offset and it has bolt-on flares. The E36 had some 17x8s on it with an et38 set up on it and it never rubbed except for U-turning too quickly. I'm a little stuck on the ZHP. I know the rears are an et51(?) stock and they're not THAT far from the inside of the fender. Going with an et35 wheel would put it ~15mm closer to it, then tires need to be accounted for, so it should be plenty of "stance" with performance in mind, wouldn't you say?
PS- A picture of your wagon is currently the background on my computer.. So jealous.

Stupid question, but is there a difference in wheel-well depth between sedans and coupes/verts? I know BMW like the back of my hand having built my fair share of M5x motors and such, but I wonder if the sedans fit a wider wheel? I only ever see sedans running crazy wheels.

supposedly coupe's have more space, verts less

Right, so in theory it fits, but I just DON'T see the room on my vert for that... I might have to go with the et35..Maybe 25? UGH.

you can, just don't lower the car at all. or actually raise it up a little lol that's the only way i know how that will put a checkmark in all those conditions

i think the coupe can fit wider wheels. it's just the sedan owners tend to be cheap (i only know of few sedan owners that actually do things right lol) and like doing stance more.
you can fit 18x9.5 et35. just with rolling the fenders (maybe a slight pull) and cutting the fender area where it meets the bumper. but the front (assuming that you wanted to run squared) is going to rub on hard u-turns regardless of what you do to the fenders in the front. i drive my car somewhat hard, and it's been fine. i just can't go too fast on dips. rubs in the front.

looking at the rubbing in the front fender liners...the offset is wrong and/or the tires are too large...My guess, different size or brand of tire (tire shapes are NOT the same from brand to brand even on identical size/specs) and the numerically low offset is allowing the outer edge to come into contact when turning (left wheel outer edge rubs when turning right and vice-versa)

Yeah, I know. I measured from the wheel to the edge of the fender and I had about 18mm, I was accounting for a fender roll. The inside of the fender is more like 12mm until the wheel hits. I think the 8.5 et35 might be the safest bet here.

The top ones are Miro 111's. After I saw them on the car, they looked a little...cartooney. The spokes are too thick and they look stubby in an 18. I'm content with my choice. I lost a few pounds on all four corners and got a good looking wheel. I actually looked at ALL of the choices you posted. I had a hard time deciding. The M-Tens are a big seller in the VW community. I actually haven't seen any C8s (my wheel) on any BMWs yet. I'll be excited to see if there are any in SOWO or H2O this year.
