So Ive been having this problem with my stock CD player since around two summers ago. Its the stock business CD player. Sometimes, with certain CDs that I put in, the player will have issues reading the CD(it sounds as if it keeps trying to read it and wont). It will also make a funny, almost scraping sound while its turning. It hasn't ever done any damage to the CD itself, but it is still very annoying and is raising some suspicion. At first it would only happen in high heat(which makes sense, since atoms expand in heat), but it has recently started doing it in normal to cold temperatures as well. Has anyone had this problem yet. With 177k on the odometer, im starting to run into small things more often, here and there.

Have you tried those lens cleaner things ? Maybe there's just a lot of dust in your player.

The scraping noise might be the spindle not grabbing the disc firmly and slipping
