View Full Version : Did the ZHP verts ever come with a trunk lid spoiler?

I know they were rare on the coupes because of the supply, but did they even make them for the verts?

Recently I decided I want one for mine. Are there any available and is there a good aftermarket one for a vert?

as far as I know ALL ZHP's with the exception of a few months of production got the spoiler

^ agreed w/ JP. i think only a month or so of production was affected. it's actually more rare NOT to have a spoiler on a zhp.

Hmm guess I have a rare one as my 04 vert does not have one.

http://www.zhpmafia.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?73-Frequently-Asked-Questions-(FAQ)-About-the-E46-BMW-330-ZHP

Question: So, if the car doesn't have all of those features, it's not a ZHP-optioned 330?
Answer: Not necessarily. Customers could order the car with leather seats (option) and a perforated leather-wrapped M steering wheel (option). What's more, during the spring of 2005, BMW stopped putting Alcantara steering wheels on the ZHP (because of problems with premature wear), which means there are many ZHP-optioned cars on the road today without Alcantara steering wheels. Moreover, before BMW discontinued the Alcantara steering wheel, it also replaced many wheels under warranty, replacing them with leather wheels. Yet another reason why you'll find leather wheels coupled with Alcantara-clad seats. Additionally, while the trunk lid spoiler came standard, there was an option to have it deleted (option code 326). And this side note: some ZHPs, in early 2004, did not come with the trunk lid spoiler (even though customers did not choose option code 326) -- because of a parts shortage. Customers who complained eventually got them installed at the dealer at no cost (covered under warranty).

Interesting. My 2004 M3 vert also has no spoiler (I presume it would be the same part as a ZHP vert spoiler).

Vert owners correct me if I'm wrong, but I think spoilers were a special order on the verts (all years)... The flat trunk makes it look out of place.

You can find a painted one on eBay for around $70, or you can go the OEM route for $140 + paint.

William told me that the verts didn't come with one (and not just because of the shortage). I'm sure he'll chime in.

I think that is correct - verts have a different trunk.

I think I read that somewhere recently, can't recall where, that verts didn't come with one.

I do believe that's true but it's been so many years now I don't remember if I read that somewhere or if I just deduced that from all the brochure photos.

On the non verts, does the spoiler show up on the build sheet? If so there are enough vins in the registry it would be pretty easy to figure out just by running a few verts from different years.

go OEM bud.

It is pricey @ 130. But you cannot beat OEM parts, and just get a local paint shop to paint it. Another 130 for paint is a lot!

$112 for OEM unpainted coupe spoiler (link below). Sedan version is $117.

http://ebmwparts.com/parts/index.cfm?make=BMW&year=&searchText=51710018269&action=oePartSearch&siteid=216397

$200 for the painted coupe P/N (link below). Probably the best way to go at it. Put paint code in order comments. Sedan version is $167.

Keep in mind that there is no P/N for verts, which answers our initial question - no spoilers for verts. RealOEM doesn't show any lip spoiler when I select 04-05-06 330Ci Convertible. It should fit though, the trunks can't be that different... YMMV.

Is this for a vert? Page won't load.

The reason I ask this is because the vert has a different trunk than the coupe and sedan. The belt line on a vert is even while its raised for the coupe/sedan trunk.

I got an eBay one for the xi. I was actually really happy with it, and it came painted for like $40.

ZHP verts never had a trunk spoiler. I obtained an aftermarket one for a coupe and it's just a tad too long for the vert. You can put the trunk spoiler for a coupe on a vert but it will need to be modified to shorter, by about half a inch minimum, in order to fit the slightly less wide vert trunk. If you look At the complex angles at the very end of the spoiler, you'll see its not a simple task to remove that half inch from a coupe spoiler. If you want to try, I can bring an aftermarket IR coupe spoiler to the Reunion.

hmm. So no one here has a trunk lid spoiler? Kinda makes me want one that much more. I saw online you can buy an aftermarket one for the sedan and supposedly it fits the vert. I really dont want to do that. Anyone know an aftermarket one specifically for a vert?

JRando has one on his vert:

http://www.zhpmafia.com/forums/showthread.php?4241-Jet-Black-ZHP-quot-Mini-quot-Mod-A-Palooza&p=108295#post108295

It is a tad wider than the trunk but you'd really only notice it when open.

I just looked through my 2004 BMW 3 series sales brochure and all it states is "Aerodynamic package" and nothing to say what is or is-not included.

If its a tad wider, then he likely has a coupe spoiler on a vert. If you look at fitment on a coupe, the spoiler is inboard of the trunk edges on each side by just a tad. When you lay that same spoiler on a vert, it slightly exceeds the width of the trunk, it would hang over into the trunk to quarter panel gap but doesn't touch the quarter panel itself.

So I found one. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Painted-BMW-E46-rear-Trunk-lip-spoiler-2d-Convertible-/320961235750

$33 painted, free shipping. Made specifically for the verts. Sounds too good to be true but for $33 I say screw it!

I bet it'll take a month to ship.

A little OT, but a new CSL Vert Trunk. Didn't figure it needed it's own thread.

You know that things going to be Über expensive. Our only hope is that they were dumb enough to make a couple dozen of them and a year from now we can pick one up at the fire sale.

Bought this one on Ebay from seller audislineclub_uk for $34.99 painted. Almost impossible to disappoint for that price but I think it turned out incredibly well! Color match looks perfect to me. Comes with 3M double-sided tape already on the spoiler. It is flexible enough to bend along the trunk edge, so install was very easy. I aligned it to the left edge of the trunk and it end up being a little short of the right edge by a couple of millimeters. You would never noticed, but I know some folks are more perfectionistic than me!
