So, the black felt on a couple of my pillars is peeling off. One actually would have came all the way off already if it weren't for the cabin light holding it on. Anyone know of an easy fix? Some kind of product to spray on that will stay and wont seep through and stain? I was thinking some 3M scotch spray adhesive, but im afraid that the glue will seep through. Any advise helps. Thanks!

3M #70 is the common practice but it only lasts so long. New A-pillars are about $40 each, I'm just gonna buy new ones for mine

edit: I think you're actually talking about the c-pillar if the light is holding it in, not sure how much those ones cost

Does the heat/sun in the summer loosen it or something? Might just have to get new ones then, because that's not something I'd like to keep dealing with.

I'll be trying the spray adhesive first myself. If I get a year out of it at a time, I'm a-ok with that.

Yes, I do believe that it is partially caused by the warmer temps/heat building up inside a closed car in the summer/southern sun. I hate to say this, but I am on the fourth set of A-pillar trim in my E36 from '97, and second in the ZHP. It's a Bimmer thing! :biggrin :crying

~$80-85 per A Pillar for a sedan. Eek!

I'll be refurbishing like Nivo as long as it lasts for a while.

Damn it... they've nearly DOUBLED in price over the last few months it seems. I last saw prices in the $30-40 range. :shifty

Yes......I was thinking the same.

This is especially painful because every corner pillar in my car needs replacing. Both front A-pillars are bubbling material, and both rear C-pillars are completely separated and are just hanging there. Makes it look like an old 80's Buick with its ridiculously saggy velour headliner. *shudder*

Looks like I'll probably just be fixing them myself then lol.

Just be careful with the spray adhesive. I fucked up one of my pillars by spraying it on the top of the fabric by accident. Left a nice white stain on it.

I attempted to spray mine as well...ended up with way too much on there and some of it soaked through. They look worse then they did before I just haven't had the time or free money to replace them with :banghead:

This is what I'm afrade of. Is there a 3M spray that uses less glue? I know they they are numbered. Not really sure why though. Thinking its the sticky ness it provides.

Maybe they've gone up in price since summer is rolling around?

That's what I was thinking. They know exactly what they're doing lol

FYI, you may find it actually looks better to have the pillar fabric removed and leave the pillars naked, than it does to leave the fabric flopping around. Exhibit A:

Has anyone just recovered their existing pillars with new fabric? I was thinking of doing this if it was relatively cheap.

Any ideas of what fabric to use?

Nivo did and it looks pretty good. I went to the local Jo-Ann's fabric store the other day to look at some options. I'm thinking of doing this soon.

That actually looks better to me, with that fabric. I'd just get really pissed if I screwed up while doing something like that.

Yes I did. Make sure to buy a thin cloth (I chose black). The last thing you want to do is buy actual headliner material, that stuff is way too thick. What I bought had the thickness and feeling of a T-shirt. I used 3M 77 spray. It worked really well and 2 years later they have not moved.

So any cloth will do? You just recommend thinner material?

Make sure the fabric will not turn color or fade on you. I would buy a piece of the fabric you like. just a small piece and leave it on the sun for a few days. see how it reacts.

I have had the mellotone in the sun for weeks now since I bought it and yet has not turned purple.

The thinner the material the more dry time you need before placing the fabric on the pillar cover with glue.

Update, it has been well over 1 year with the Mellotone (http://www.parts-express.com/mellotone-premium-black-speaker-grill-cloth-yard-64-wide--260-332) fabric and it has never shifted color from black.

So I would give this Fabric two thumbs up.

Also the spray adhesive has yet to give out.
