A few weeks ago we had to take the vert because, Mama had to drive me home and she doesn’t do the three peddle thing. I drove there and when we got out of the car I tried to lock it but, my key wouldn’t work so, we had to use hers to lock it.

Today with them both in the garage I tried it again and the vert key and the ZHP key were working every function on the ZHP only and the vert key no longer worked on any of the vert functions. The vert key does work to start and drive the vert and I'm assuming at this point it will still work on the locks manually.

I guess it’s time to start looking for the solution.

FYI; the vert is a 2006 330Cic and my ZHP is a 2003 both E46es.

I'm eff'ed if this happens in our house, way too many BMW keys for them to start sleeping with each other.

Not to mention that BMW keys that are in the same family shouldn't really be sleeping together anyway... for more reasons than one. :eeps

Should have some kind of rubber on at the very least.
Perhaps some Bridgestone Potenza RE-11's. :shifty

Don't be afraid... I'm sure your ZHP doesn't mind... the size...

In before Chris Hansen and Dateline NBC shows up...

On topic, not sure how this happened but maybe this is time to get some coding done at the dealership, I'm sure they can sort it all out for you...

Wait a second, the key's can get re-programmed to a different car automatically?

Back when BMW first came out with chipped keys on their bikes on the 2005 1200GS there was talk online that you shouldn't keep both of your keys in close proximity to each other because it would cause some kind of interference and the keys wouldn't work. It was ever proven as fact though. Even still though, just out of habit I keep my 2 ZHP keys in separate drawers.

There was also a period in 2007 when they had trouble with the EWS antennas and they would quit working leaving some pissed off people stranded on their brand new bikes. They went through 2 or 3 revisions before they finally got it figured out.

That's very interesting!

So now I'm very curious to hear what has happened with the OPs keys.

Now if I could figure out how to embed the video, that would be a plus

I wish I had known that was the only problem, and solution. I just went through this with my new key, could have saved you some searching. I wonder how the 'vert key "lost" it's functions, though? Do we think it was just because the keys were together, like MrMaico said was happening with the Beemer keys?

Could have been a few things, 1) I haven't driven the Vert since the weather cooled down, 2) I have the keys stacked so, I can tell them apart but in the pocket multiple buttons get hit until the door opens and that could have had something to do with it 3) Cycling the ignition with both keys together may have also had something to do with it 4) I did get the oil change on the ZHP over the holidays and the dealer always puts my key in this unit the service manager has on his desk, I don't know what it does but could be related.
