You should give alcantara a try if you can find one close to check out. I usually don't like cloth interior, but I like it more than the quality of the leather in the zhps. (The c5 leather is definitely nicer than the zhps, despite how easy it tears)
What Cam said. My last car had the alcantara interior, I love that stuff. My newer ZHP has leather and I just can't dig it. It's not as comfortable, wears easily and doesn't look as good imo.

I'm a leather guy, I just don't like the way the alcantara wears. You need to wait and get what you love.

I had to travel to Dallas to get mine (7 years ago)... I went back to OK from TN for a work thing in Tulsa, then a friend from home drove me down to get it. The drive back to TN (by myself) was AWESOME! Don't rule out traveling for the perfect car (whatever you and not others believe that to be)...
I didn't want Alcantara at purchase either but if I could do it over again, I probably would have found one with it. Meh, I dunno, the way my steering wheel has aged, maybe not...

Thanks for the input on the alcantara vs leather.... if all the other stars lined up and it was alcantara interior, it may not be a deal breaker...
What about the steering wheel being alcantara? I know later ZHP's had the leather- is it common for early ZHP owners to swap to leather?? just curious..
as for the C5 leather interior- i really liked it despite the cracking.

Follow-up query on the leather: isn't cloth preferable if you want the car heated/cooled soon?

It really depended on the person and their habits. My wheel was replaced twice under warranty for wear by the original owner. The second time it was swapped to perforated leather. That said, I've also seen cars with high mileage who had an alcantara wheel in great condition.

Mine isn't terrible at 118k... It was replaced in 2007 then 2009, I think that was the last time... I drive a lot not touching it though and plan to use the magic eraser trick to clean it soon...

The alcantara is fantastic in the winter and in the summer. Right at a comfortable temperature, all the time.

glad to hear good things about alcantara.. i guess being new to that material I was a little skeptical.
The seats do not wear nearly as quickly as the steering wheels, I actually think they age more gracefully than leather. And as long as you take care of an alcantara wheel, it will hold up perfectly. Once I get mine rewrapped I'll probably start using gloves on my daily commute, but even if I didn't, an occasional cleaning would keep the stuff looking like new :)
