Lol. Apparently they're rare too!

I've driven both, neither to the limit. (ZHP in this case and BRZ)

It's an ok car, don't get me wrong. Handles great. But it's not fast by any means, it's small as well. If your "large" by any measure, the stock seats will be uncomfortable.

For me, if I had the same $$$ to spend on BRZ or something else? I'd buy something else personally.

I thought the Lotus was at the very least $30K, more like 35-40k average. I considered the BRZ, but never seriously. The ZHP has almost everything I would want in a compact sports sedan.

I was just going to post this. Pleasently surprised he mentioned the ZHP.

I believe the exige is in the price range you are thinking of.

Either way I think I would take almost any car they mentioned over a new brz.

Hmmm, what should I choose? Umm, I'll take that "special car", that ZHP thingy.

The BRZ is just an overpriced FRS to me. Basically the same thing as stated by Car & Driver and the numbers agree too.

From what I gather, the extra couple grand you pay is mostly just for the leather seats in the BRZ.

The owner of the shop that I went to used to own a ZHP sedan, purchased from Monrovia BMW. He now bought a brand new FRS (he misses the AE86) and modded it to hell with wheels, exhaust, suspension, the works. Even then he still says he misses the ZHP.

Case closed. :p

$25k for an E46? That's a bit too high for something stock, even an M3 unless it's remarkably low in miles. I can find a good condition 60-70k mile M for 20 and less.

Even less in CA (SoCal) 'cause that's where all them M's are at :biggrin
Saw 4 different E46 M3's in the past 3 days; just saw a silver grey one (not vert) earlier on the way to school.

Dunno why but it seems like all the owners have suddenly started taking them out of hiding/garages. That or I've been really lucky.

+1 A lot of their used car prices are a little inflated. And yes you can get a 996 911 for around 20-25k in pretty good shape. Still less than the 26k BRZ/FRS

I think $25k is what one would pay for a very nice E46 ///M3, comparable to a brand new BRZ.

Same. That's why enthusiast auto still exists.

Yeah. That price range will get you a low mileage M3 in the 30-40k mile range. Garage queens, pretty much.

I believe they are taking operating costs into play here as well as the warranty that comes with the new Toyoburu.

I'd keep my e46 just because it's mine...but I would be fine with having both ;)

I thought about one of those for about a nano second. I chose a super low mile 135 for less $ with more performance.

I have a friend with one, he's owned a lot of BMW's, few MC-S's, few e36 M3's, few others... I still don't get it...

I'm a fan of the Brz. It has a 2.0T, LSD, 6 speed, it's light, and it should respond well to mods.

I want one..

The prices on that show were certainly inflated. A clean E46 M3 around here in the Bay Area will fetch around $18k, around 60k miles, SMG or 6 speed, with most options.

I agree. Have you driven one? (I haven't) It seems we have very similar tastes regarding cars here.

No sir. I haven't driven one, but my friends dad is strongly considering one as his next car.. He thinks very highly of me, so if I asked nicely he would probably let me take it for a spin. I don't exactly want a super powerful car, I just want a fun car that was plenty of GO. I am a BIG fan of Mini Cooper (specifically the S models), and VW GTI's.

Making plans tomorrow to drive the FR-S for an over night period. Then I'll probably go see what the BRZ is about... is it really turbo charged? Thought they had the same powerplant...

From a GS3, this was sent.

They are the same car. It's basically a premium package frs. (nav/nicer seats/hids)

I know they are thw same, but I've heard that the BRZ is not as raw as the FR-S. And the seats in the Scion are snug. The shoulder support is genius. I would probably need to come down a waist size to be comfortable on long voyages though.

I'm probably in a unique position on this board in that I currently own both a BRZ and ZHP. The ZHP is my daily and I love it to death whereas the BRZ is a company development car that we use for new parts testing and advertising. To me they are very different cars.

If one is looking for a sporty fun DD that doesn't cost a ton to own and maintain I don't think many cars will beat the ZHP. It's obviously not the fastest car out there, but it has the total package of looks, handling, style and fun to drive factor that make it a joy to get into every day.

The BRZ is HYPER responsive. I owe a race prepped 92 Miata, time trial prepped 700 whp Subaru WRX and have owned many other very potent performance cars and I can say without a doubt that the BRZ in almost stock form is more responsive and quick to inputs that any of these. I love my Miata and always have...until I took the BRZ out on track for a weekend of fun. I was floored at how amazing it was to drive on track. It really makes the Miata feel like a boat if that is possible.

For a daily the BRZ is a bit uncomfortable and cheap. The interior is visually interesting looking, but is made of very cheap plastics. It is meant to be inexpensive and excels in this aspect. Ultimately I would choose both. The ZHP for daily and the BRZ for a weekend fun car. :)

A keen observer will see the BRZ in the back ground of this picture.

^ Pretty interesting information. I wouldn't have thought the BRZ to be more responsive than a tried-and-true sportscar like the Miata. Thanks for the info!

It's really a night and day difference between the two. The picture above was from a weekend at Putnam Road Course where I had the BRZ and my Miata out there for the express purpose of comparison of the two cars. I only drove the Miata twice over a three day period as I couldn't get enough of the BRZ. It was so much more fun to drive on track.

Everytime I see a BRZ I like them more and more. The back is so sexy. It looks like a japanese TVR from the rear.
