Hey guys,
I think I'm going to get my wheels refinished. They're not in terrible shape, but none of them is perfect--they're a 7 out of 10, maybe, all due to the PO. Anyway, it bums me out whenever I notice the flaws.

So I'm thinking about having them fixed up and powdercoated. I'm debating between keeping the OEM silver look or going with hypersilver... possibly even shadow chrome. My car is TiAg with a moderate tint all around...

Does anyone have hypersilver or shadow chrome 135s? Would love to see some pics!

Derek,
Shadow chrome is extremely difficult to match if something happens to one of the wheels and it needs to get refinished. If shadow chrome is the choice, then all four wheels will be the same initially. Just hope nothing happens to the wheels that would require a refinish!

It is absolutely gorgeous though, and shadow chrome would be my choice too. I'd just be super careful so nothing happens to the wheels. :biggrin

I did mine in this color back when I had my 135's:

good point botond. That color on your wheels is lovely. I might have to steal that idea and get mine done too! (looks like it will help hiding brake dust a bit too)

It hid brake dust to a certain point, but you could tell when it was dusty from the lack of shine to the wheel. It would take a considerable amount to get it looking obvious though. I loved this color combo; I would do it again, but Style 71 wheels can't possibly looking better than the silver/polished look they already have. :)

What color is that called? I may have my wheel guy take care of it for me. The stock zhp wheels are curbed..might as well fix them too.

Yup. I like the hypersilver or gunmetal. I put gunmetal RS4 reps on my A3 which basically tiag in color. Looks right. Here is a terrible pic of those colors

I'm accumulating roadrash on my 135s (I love my wife but...). How much does resurfacing and repainting of wheels cost? I have no ballpark. Thanks!

100 per wheel is a good max estimate

That sounds about right. you can probably get it close to $300 for all 4 if the rash is not major.

Yeah...my guy quoted me $80.00 per wheel for Sepang Bronze.

Shit....cat's outta the bag now.....

WOW! That is pricey $$. My dad paid $150 to get his Style 32's (17 inch, and staggered) in any color, and it including sandblasting.

Yessir. It was from some local BMW gear-heads, they started their own little powder-coating/ fender rolling business. They have a small warehouse they do it out of..

These are the exact wheels after the powder-coat on our old E32.

No, the car is not that low.. It is a photo-shop of how low I wanted to go :shifty

Awesome. That's a great price....but $80/rim is very, very competitive for powder coating rims.

It was a custom color picked out by me, so it has no name. The best you can do is get close, but there ain't no replicating!

Holy shit, guys! That's cheap as hell!
I had to pay $600 to get mine refinished and painted. The Style 71's cost over $800! :(

Yep. Dane, $80/per wheels is a great price. Most shops around here want $110-150/per wheel.

I want your mirrors!!!!

OP, if I were you (my last car was TiAg) I would go gunmetal. The cheap/easy way to do it would be plastidip. Easy to do and the coating will cover some of the flaws as well. Takes 3-4 cans to do on average. More if you are really particular and do extra coats.

Botond, love that finish... looks great on IR.

I don't want to go too dark, but the OEM silver is pretty monochromatic on TiAg. HS adds some depth, at least.

So far I've got an estimate of $550 for fixing the rash and powder coating all four.... any recommendations for shops in the greater Boston area (besides RimPro, which is like $225 per wheel)?

If you want to wait till the nice weather comes, if you want.... we could attempt this ourselves! I've painted wheels before, just not curb rash repair. It's pretty easy though, involving some bondo. Perhaps we could do my winter wheels as a test and if they turn out good, then do yours?

Wow, very nice, love OEM amber lighting on dark colors...

On topic,

The darker colors shown here look great! I need to get mine out of the attic and have them done so I can sell them... Although it is nice having a full set of full sized spares anytime I need to get a flat repaired...
