I finished working on my AL headlights. Picked them up a while ago from an e46fanatics partout to replace my zkw lights. Did the zkw-r lenses, put on new headlight covers and also added gold umnitza V2s. I’m not expecting the whole thing to have been done perfectly, but I think they’ll be pretty damn close. I have to say for my first true diy with my zhp, I pretty proud of myself.
I’m hoping to get them installed tomorrow. I’ll post more pics when I can.

Oh before I forget...... I picked up my zkw-r lenses from ecs. I was expecting to have to add washers or make adjustments for them but from what I can tell they fell into the lens holder perfectly. No other work had to be done. Let’s see what tomorrow brings.

Nice to be able to finally wrap this project up. I’ve been collecting parts for some time- I picked up the angels back in September. Got them in and everything checked out fine. They came with the AL specific mounting brackets so no need to dremel anything. I tried to adjust the beam as best as I could and it was too light out to get any good shots but I’ll go for a test drive Wednesday night to get some and fine tune where the light is pointing. If the light output is good I’ll leave them as is for now. If not, I’ll probably order CBIs. We’re moving on Thursday and it’s gonna be much darker in Westchester than it is in NYC so these were a must.

Drive back to KY went well. Sent the ZHP down to Louisville with my brothers who work together at a top tier body shop. Having 3 dings pulled, some paint touch up done in some small areas, and have my Shadowline trim fixed.

I would be curious to know what wire you tap into for this. I had mine wired into the interior lights as well as when the ignition turned on. After a while, I removed the interior light connection because it got very annoying to have the door open on the AE's on.

Got the car a quick wash this morning on the way to work. Over the weekend, I had thoughts to sell the car and still somewhat do. I have my 4runner and like driving it. It also meets my needs here in CO especially with winter driving. My fear is that I will regret selling the ZHP as I've seen others have this exact experience.

I do not think I need the cash at the moment. Obviously with buying a house, I have a lot less in my account at the moment. That said, it really falls in the last category of something else. I'm looking at the need of having two cars (and maintaining them). I absolutely love driving the ZHP. I guess I'm looking at the practicality of the situation.

If it's not costing you anything, keep it. Even if it sits for a while... every time you get in it you be glad you did!
We've had many BMW's over the years, all of them faster and newer but we have always loved getting back into the ZHP.

Bingo. The ZHP is my forever car.
Might it one day get transitioned out of daily duties? Absolutely, but I can’t imagine a situation where I’d let this thing go.

It’s the same thing for me. The zhp is turning into a car I could totally hold onto for a really really long time. Even when the miles are really up there and repairs get bigger and bigger. At that point I plan on swapping in an s54. Or if that’s not in the cards just get a new M54 in there and keep it on the road until I can afford a porsche.

I would agree. That said, I've already spent $2000 this year on repairs. For the most part, the car has been good the past couple of years.

I got a coupon from my local BMW dealership for a free state inspection so I scheduled a day next week. I am very confident that it will pass but should I worry that they may go out of their way to find an issue? Anyone else in VA get inspected at a dealer?

I don't think the dealer will try to make things fail on purpose. My guess is they try to pull in people for free, and while they inspect the entire car for the state inspection they come up with a laundry list of other things they think should be repaired and try to drum up some business. (Oil pan gasket leaking, FCAB's worn etc)

Correct - like when they did the free eval when replacing the recalled airbags.

Not the ZHP, but I replaced the driver’s side front lower control arm and ball joint on my parent’s X3 (my old car) tonight. The inner bushing has failed, and was leaking fluid. I decided it was easier to just buy a new arm with the bushing pre-pressed. It’s funny how the E83 shares a back end with the E46, but the front suspension is straight out of the E39/E60.
Having lost two of my grandparents over the last 9 months my parents suddenly have a surplus of cars, but they’re reluctant to get rid of any until we know when my brother/his family are moving back to the US. Because the X3 still has under 100k, is seldom driven, and its future is still unknown, I elected not to replace the passenger side yet.

Wrapped up all the technical mechanical issues with the s54 wagon I've been working on for the past few months. Just worked on it whenever I had spare time here and there with a friend of mine. We swapped in a full s54 drivetrain and the brakes and rear lsd diff, AEM fuel pump for M3, M3 fuel tank baffle. I'm currently waiting on a set of beige m3 seat covers so I can cover a set of Dove grey M3 seats we have from a parts car. Instead of converting this whole thing to black interior which is an act of God... beige M3 seats should fit the bill just nicely especially since they have Lumbar and bolster control.
- 2000 Sport 323i Wagon originally with 218k miles
- 2002 S54 6 speed swap with 162k and WPC coated Rod bearings replaced with Swap
- M3 front and rear Brakes, sub frame and front & rear sway bars
- no subframe plates installed but Sub frame was cleaned and inspected and as expected crack free on a 323i automatic car
- M3 Steering Rack
- M3 AEM Fuel pump with M3 fuel Tank Baffle and M3 Fuel lines with M3 FPR and Fuel Filter
- Replaced Vanos Exhaust HUb (previous one was broken and recovered broken tooth as well)
- all new Vanos and Cam bolts
- New Vanos body Gasket
- Vanos and Engine timed properly
- new oil pan gasket
- rear main seal with new back plate
- Upper & Lower coolant hoses with coolant temp sensor
- water pump & thermostat
- New fan clutch
- M3 Radiator, and Front Aux fan
- New Alternator
- new Sparkplugs
- new shifter with bushings nice and crisp
- Valve cover gasket
- New Battery
- New Starter
- Stock M3 clutch and SAC pressure plate during 6 speed swap
- Liquimoly 10w-60 with Mann oil filter
- Transmission and Diff Fluid changed
- OEM shift lights
- DME and Cluster coded with correct Mileage and functioning Sport button
- Replacement LCM coded properly
- M3 Seats Beige Leather Lumbar Bolster memory
- DSC system coded properly
- Style 219M wheels
- M3 Steering wheel
- Replaced all 4 window regulators an Window motors. (they were all bad)
- OEM Factory installed Alarm
This is a pretty tricky swap to do the car was an automatic originally in the swap was from an SMG car. So I had to convert the SMG swap to 6-speed manual first and swap that into the wagon and convert that to a manual transmission setup. And on top of tackling the auto to manual wiring in general we also had to do a whole bunch of other wiring for SMG to manual and a whole slew of coding....
I feel pretty accomplished today because I got all the coating taken care of no check engine lights perfect idle and the engine feels and sounds great.
Even has shift lights in the cluster [emoji16]
Took her out for a spin tonight just to get her feet wet she felt really good.
Her paints not perfect (some clear coat chipping in random places) but there's no accidents or rust and a clean Carfax (Southern car all her life) She needs some TLC on the outside... mainly the front bumper and clear coat but the mechanical is good to go.

I think it’s more textured than Napa. It’s more like the Dakota/Montana (which one do we have?) that’s in the regular non-M.

Well I have full option Black nappa E46 M3 front seats retrofitted into my sedan
And stock regular Dakota leather as my back seat
I believe Dakota is standard in all 330’s, I know base models have a vinyl-ish leather finish that’s prone to tearing, just not sure of the name.... somebody chime in and correct me if I’m wrong lol

I had such a poor example of Montana in my car, my car came from Florida and the leather was so hard, dry, and even cracking. It eventually tore directly along the seam of the drivers seat cushion completely :\
My ZHP before this one had the softest leather ever and they were heated, I would like to say I wish I would have kept those seats but my M3 seats are worth every penny.
As of this Saturday I’ll have sold my OEM sport seats
I spent 40$ of my own money on my M3 seats
And now I’m selling my sport seats for 200$
That’s 160$ + my money invested + M3 seats = a big smile and a much more comfortable driver
Couldn’t ask for a better deal than that lol

No sir, this car will be for sale and the cost to do the body work will run me around $5500 more and that's not something I have to invest in this car.

they are textured similar to montana leather that comes in our cars. definitely not smooth like Napa.
i have the same seat covers in my red car. i recovered a set of M3 seats in a dark beige/brown color and had them redyed to match the natural brown door panels and rear seats better.

If you want a color change, you're better off changing the leather. Every dye job I've seen wore off fairly quickly.
BMW's E46 leatherette/vinyl is called SensaTec. The black SensaTec interior in our 2002 325xi still looks like new.
Back when the E46 was new, it was called Leatherette. SensaTec is on the newer F-series of cars.
How do I know? I've been browsing the Build Your BMW section of BMW's site with endless configurations since I was a kid, and still do today. lol

Changed the struts & shocks on the 2000 328i. Went with Bilstein Touring for the sport package. Bought them from FCPEuro - best price & it will be the last set we'll have to buy for this car. First time doing this job on an E46 - much easier than the E28 & E30.

I just drove my car HARD in the safest way possible of course. I "followed" an already quick car, C400. The excitement, emotion, feeling and driver involvement I just witness driving my car vs laying two patches of Sport Cup 2 rubber on the pavement and rocketing to blistering speeds, is not a comparison. My spine throbbed and tingled after hitting apex and going WOT to 8000RPM to rocket into the sunset, showing why a C400 is a C400 and why an M3 is and M3. I will go to bed a happy E46 owner.

Took the car back to Discount Tire due to getting vibrations after having the tires rotated and balanced. Apparently, balanced does not mean what I thought it meant as one of the tires was a 1/4 of an ounce off. Drove it today to work and did not have any issues.

Ordered new idler/tension pulleys today. My current ones are less than a year old buuuuuut a teeny coolant leak had been assaulting them for months. Fixed the leak and just decided to replace the pulleys. Thankfully, all of the other pulleys checked out ok.

Pulled the old idler and tensioner pulleys. Removed the gaskets, cleaned em out, and repacked them. Not a permanent fix but it should tide me over until Monday when the new parts get here.

Dropped my 135m rims off to get straightened, powder coated, and to have a new set of Michelin AS/3+ tires mounted. I am going with a powder coat color that is as close to the original BMW silver of the E46 era as possible. I had the same place refurbish the 19" 225m rims for my X1 in a gloss black powder coat a few weeks ago and the came out great. Will post pictures when I pick them up next week.

Washed, clay barred, polished, and waxed the car the other day. Earlier I started researching suspension bushings/bearings, so about to drop $1,800ish on parts to get the car track ready.

Took the zhp on the Leavenworth drive and met up with Trevor (@RoverT) who drove down from Vancouver, BC. Had a lot of fun opening up the throttle on the 2+ hr. drive. The drive practically turned into a bimmer track event for the last 50 mile stretch haha. Some great cars on display at the meet including the red e30 and e38 down there. Absolutely MINT. Trevor was awesome enough to do some coding on my car, including some neat comfort features, front/rear lighting and resetting my adaptations.

Yeah we couldn't access the throttle adaptation reset for some reason. That's the one that supposedly makes your throttle real peppy again.

water pump bearing? might be worth picking up a stethoscope from autozone to pinpoint the problem area

I did a cooling system refresh before the car was stored. So the pump is brand new. Less than 10k on it. AC checks out fine as does the alternator. I've been using a really long screwdriver as a steth. Not perfect but it works lol.
The noise seemes to be coming from the tensioner pulley. Which is brand new. I just out it on. I figured it may have been the metal dust cap/washer on the back. Took to the bench machine and cleaned/buffed it. Still sqeaks. Belt is new also. So.... I'm stumped.

There's not a whole lot of grease inside some of the new pulleys, might want to check that. Just because it's new doesn't mean it can't be defective

Ordered aluminum rear subframe mounts, and delrin/aluminum diff bushings.
Replaced the ccv system. All hoses, air distribution box, tb gasket, iacv grommet and did the o2 pilot mod.

The old tension pully bolt was stripped. The T50 socket was biting enough to make it feel like it was torqued on. It wasn't. I pulled the old bolt and replaced it. No torque lets the whole assembly spin. So it squeaks.... Well it sounded more like a banshee.
Geewiz info for anyone replacing the hydraulic tension pully bolt. Skip every parts supplier out there. They'll want way more than the stock bolt is worth. Home Depot carries the same bolt in hardened steel for 98 cents for a pair.
It's an M10x25 8mm hex and fits perfectly. 98 cents vs 12 bucks from a supplier more than covers the fuel cost to pick it up locally. I think I'd be almost ashamed to admit how many automotive bolts I've replaced via local venues. And usually higher quality than stock.
Obvious OEM stripped bolt is obvious below.

I can never remember which is whichI think I'm just going to work my way through the engine bay and standardize everything as much as I can lol. BMW did a decent job from the factory but needing a torx one minute, a hex another, and then needing the holy grail 10mm the next gets old.

And I do have to say, compared to any BMW newer than the E46, this car isn't too bad to work on. The last E90 I worked on made me want to burn it down.

Old oooooooold tensioner pully. Belt, while not old, had been weathered by New Mexico heat and no real torque on the bolt let the new assembly spin. Checking things off the list made the noise less and less noticeable. It was the combination of them that eliminated it.
Sidenote: I had a chance to chat with the original owner the other day. (We met shortly after I bought the car from a local dealer a few years back) He asked me if I had supercharged the car yet. I, confused, said no and asked why. He mentioned that when we first met, he'd been slowly building car for FI use.
Turns out. It has VAC forged kit in it. Pistons, con rods, bolts, and a few other bits. He said he'll send me the parts list if he finds it. The last step of the build was supercharging lol. Which now explains the rest of this car. And makes me feel like an idiot for not SC'ing it by now. Either way, he liked the minor changes I've done and if I head back to NM, we'll meet for coffee again.

It gets SC'd, I doubt I'll run more than 8 psi. Enough to liven the car up and surprise people. But that'll probably be it. I've grown to love the car NA. But.... I can't let a forged setup go to waste lol. For now, I've bigger fish to fry.
The paint on the carbon fiber trunk and hood are nooooot agreeing with the clear coat on the carbon fiber. So I think I'll be stripping them back down to bare fiber and repainting them sometime in the nearish future. Someone mentioned just clear coating the carbon fiber for the look but.... Ehh I dunno. Never got past every bro and his bro car friends 3M wrapping everything with fake CF. Kinda ruined clear coated carbon for me on everything but supercars.

The supercharger gave me around 100 HP but the rough cold start and weirdness when I rev-match downshifting really annoy the crap out of me... sometimes I wish I just left it NA. I have to find someone that know how to tune and AJ at ESS aint it.

I'm at around 9 psi of boost. I think part of my issue is that I haven't had time to sort it out. Plus, it's hot as all balls down here and boost doesn't like that... If I get the drivability issues sorted out, I'll be happy

Yeah it's been ridiculously hot up here in VA. Well for VA it's been hot. There are times I really miss NM. It got hot but it was dry. And I can't wait for fall. The Stealth turbos feel AMAZING in colder weather. I'm currently working on water nozzles for the intercoolers. That should help me knock down the boosted air temps a little in the summer. Or.... At least give me another thing to add to the growing parts list lol.
I've never ridden in an E46 with a centri either. But having dealt with that type of FI system in the past, I prefer twin screw. And your power band sound pretty similar to the one on my Stealth. Kicks on at 2500 and carries to redline. Except I can guarantee yours is way more linear. Those turbos are nothing.....nothing....nothing.. Noth oh look we're redlining.

I agree wholeheartedly. I look at the cost, remember I have a car with twin turbos, and order refresh parts. In the past, every time I got ready to pull the trigger on a kit, I'd take a lot of time to think about it. Then just go through the car and see what needed to be replaced, set aside cash for parts, or reshesh/upgrade OE stuff with better materials. Maybe one day. We'll see. But I think I'm pretty comfortable for now. Plus this car is starting to show it's age in a few minor ways. Many track days and years of desert life has taken a toll. Nothing terribly or mechanically wrong. But the car isn't perfect anymore. It certainly has it's battle scars.

Haha definitely. It's a stark difference when hopping out of the ZHP and into the 3S. With the ZHP the power is always there when I need it and I can play around a little. The 3S? Well.... That starts with "Is there anything ahead of me within the next mile", lol.

I find that the 17mm hex will take the pressure to release the tensioner and having a high grade bolt will not rust.

That's just a plain zinc coating on that bolt but as long as you put the dust shield back on, it shouldn't be a rust problem for any bolt

Oh yeah. That was from my ZHP in 2013. Haha. Couldn’t find my pic for when I changed the M bolt. I think I went on the hunt for a better bolt.

I ran into the same problem with my strut bar... used the following fasteners:
Stainless Steel 8mm Nut (Nylok), PN: 93625A300, ECS Tuning ES#10998, $1.95
Stainless Steel 8mm Washer 5/16", PN: 96659A107, ECS Tuning ES#10999, $1.95
Of course, you might very well find suitable fasteners at your local hardware store for a little less.

Now that you mention it, I think I've already done it. I know the original bolt had to be drilled out.

I mentioned a few pages back that I was getting my original 135 rims re-finished. I was able to pick them up and get them mounted last weekend.
They were straightened, powder coated in what I believe is called brilliant silver (very close to the original color) and had a new set of Michelin AS3+ mounted on them. I also put a set of the newer style center caps on them last night.

Thanks everyone! I think that they came out great as well. When I dropped them off the owner showed my a few sample rims to get an idea what colors would work best. The other colors were either too dark or had too much metallic. This color definitely has more depth and shine without being to much of a departure from the original color.

approaching 80K miles and decided to change my plugs today. They look clean, and I think they were original. But the very first one scared me when it took a ton of force to break it loose. When it finally did break loose (but still in the well), I heard a crack and looked in and saw the broken porcelain. Got the shop vac out and using a small pipe sucked out the debris before pulling the plug out. Good news is the other 5 took no effort at all

I also replaced my 6MT Alcantara shift boot today. My wife thought mine was a bit faded. And if Mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy!
When the new 1 arrived, there's really not much difference between them, but I put the new one on anyway. Anyone need a shift boot in pretty good condition? I can share pictures if needed

I'm on my third alcantara boot. They do seem to fade quick and it's seems to be mostly on the passenger side so the wife is probably seeing that all the time

This one's not bad at all. I'm sure you probably get intense southern sun all year too where we rarely get scorching sun up here in the Northeast at all (and no sun at all when our convertibles spend 5-6 months in winter storage)

36136783536 - wheel center cap with chrome ring - that's the update - the "chrome" on the circumference. Older style were gray on the outer edge.

That is only the roundel emblem without the center cap - you could glue that over or in place of the center cap original emblem.

Wow! you guys are fast with the responses. I just sat down for the night! Yes, all of the above information is correct. The new ones I ordered from FCP Euro are the 36136783536. This seems to be the only part number available and replaced the older style for all rims. Also, the other part number (36136767547) is only the center roundel piece of the older three piece style that were original on our cars. You would then have to re-use the backing clip portion and the outer ring portion. The new ones are all one piece and the roundel is permanently attached to the backing clip portion.

Pulled ZHP out and gave it the ole Italian tune up today. The Stealth has been pullung DD duty lately so this is the first time the ZHP has been out for over a week.
I let it warm up with some easy driving for about 30 minutes, then hit a nice little backroad and let it sing for awhile. Nothing makes me feel ten years old faster than blipping the throttle on a heel/toe shift and hearing the exhaust pop and fire.

And better headrest adjustment than the M3 seats. I also think they look more “at home” with the rest of the non-M interior. The M3 seats, while very comfortable, do stick out a good bit of you don’t do the full interior conversion.
Oh, and E63 seats come in my personal favorite Saddle Brown. Dammit @05Imola why have you done this to me?!? It’s 07:30 on a Sunday morning, and instead of working on my brake duct DIY I’m shopping for seats I don’t need. FML...

Started changing pads and rotors and, after 120k miles, HAD to refurbish the calipers, brackets, and hubs (and other odds and ends). Makes for a long, tedious, and nasty job, but looks soooooooo much better...

2 down, 2 to go (minus the wheel)... If you're wondering why I painted my calipers black, it's because I'm using Rustoleum "Rust Reformer"--I love that stuff! You can paint over it, but I like to leave it alone, because that stuff goes on nice and thin, and I don't worry as much about build-up on surfaces or in holes--plus it blends in really well.

we have a shortened week and the wife and I are commuting. With the heat coming on strong this week i thought it would be a good opportunity to apply my first layer of leatherique rejuvenator oil. I'm gonna let it sit overnight and all day tomorrow. When i get in tomorrow night I'm going to apply some more, same on Tuesday night. Wednesday I'm gonna put on the pristine clean and see what the result is.

Had AAA flatbed it to the shop. Leak around the expansion tank, and my tools, jack stands etc are 170 miles away.
The funny part was calling AAA. The very nice call center person asked for all the details on the care: make and model? is it lowered? Is it modified ? Is it a duelly? Does it have a crew cab? :) :)

I’m sure that answer depends on who you ask. To me it’s more about giving them a place to tether down that won’t involve them (a) using any suspension components, or (b) ruining my wheels by tethering down through the barrels and spokes.
Although if someone did tow from there (like if I was somehow parked in a towaway zone, injured, or was otherwise not present), it’s a better choice than the lower control arm which is very common.

Good find! I need these for when I get my car dyno'd. There is no good attachment points on the back of the car for the straps and they usually end up around the lower control arms.
I'll have to see if they will work I the M2 too...

I was recently towed by AAA and the driver would only attach to points he was permitted to by management. They're really clamping down on process, at least in my experience.

I honestly can't remember. I rarely ever drive the car, and painted it roughly two years ago. I'm going to order a new grill before long, so I didnt care too much about the paint as long as it was black. I previously used trim paint.

Not today but, yesterday took the e36 to the shop to install depo euro lamps. Then took the E83 in to do som much needed maintenance; water pump, thermostat, oil pan gasket, oil service, transfer case service and rotate and balance.

Got the passenger door to unlock.
Ended up being the fuse. Must have fried when I put in the new center switch.
Good thing I found this out after I removed the seat and door panel and GM5 module.

I probably would have done it anyway, but my polisher made the decision for me when I did my first detail right after buying the car. The “30” in 330ci” popped right off, kinda’ forced my hand.
I debadged the X3 years ago because the edges of the X were destroying my sponges/towels/polishing pads. I’ve come to just really like the clean look.

With Hieu, oil change, dialed in the suspension as the rear settings were too harsh, lowered the rear about 1/8th inch.

Installed the Insulation & Tool kit back into my new CSL trunk. I’m missing a few securing clips so bare with the holes lol
I decided to leave a zip tie out of the bracket where the tool box goes mounted too since there’s no where to bolt the tool box too on this trunk. Worked like a charm i think

Cleaned off all the rubber chunks and brake dust, put them on the freshly installed rack above the storage room door, and put the PSS/CSLs back on the car.

Yep, 5 days over the course of 3 events. Plus I’d say ~1,000 miles back and forth. Keep in mind I’ve never had track tires before, so I don’t have a benchmark, but honestly I’m really not seeing any significant wear (and though I’m new I’m no slouch out there). That could have a lot to do with VIR being pretty freshly repaved, and the Roval’s infield being basically brand new. I know the better driver I become the more I’ll work ‘em, but I love the tires. I’m not sure the performance to price ratio can be beat. They’ll be running at least 2 more events this year.

Added a sick eye scar when I left the car backed in, on the rack, with the hood up under the garage door. And you know I didn't think to lower it before the wife came home.

I did that once... Put the garage door down and forgot to close the hood. Wedged so hard the door reversed. Didn't do any damage at all though, I couldn't believe it. Must been the rubber gasket along the bottom

Ouch. That happened to me with the wife's X3. A small chip of paint fell out. Needless to say, I stayed quiet about it. :ninja

My girlfriend closed the garage door on the Z4MC a week after getting it. Left a deep scratch on the newly painted spoiler... She felt bad for a week but its nothing that can't be repaired.

That's the factory fluid? I thought the OEM stuff was much thinner and only came in a 5 gallon bucket...

Looking good, Guy. Last time my ZHP was washed goes back to March when the Optimum Gloss Coat was applied. It's been garaged most of the time, so still looks fairly clean to me.

I just put WD-40 white lithium grease on all the moving parts of my convertible top, and WD-40 silicon grease on the door seal gaskets. I bought the grease a while ago but I just watched the Goss' Garage video and it motivated me to get out there and do it. Q-tips, genius....... 10 minutes tops.

Now time for me to start a mild Friday night lubrication, but that's a different thread............
Got the starter replaced at a shop yesterday. Today I got the SES light for the time under my ownership. I took the intake boots out as I thought the shop might’ve messed up while installing but they seemed ok. Installed them back and will be going to autozone tomorrow to get them to read codes.

I'd still rather take my car to my trusted mechanic, but if I'm in a pinch this would be a lot better than taking it to a shady shop who won't let you see what they are doing

Thanks to Shawn (he supplied the mirror motor mounting plates), I was able to help Colin retrofit his ZHP coupe side mirrors into his OEM M3 side mirrors. All in all it was an awesome evening sharing my garage with both Colin and Botond while we rebuilt his side mirrors [emoji16]
I also painted my ZHP’s steering wheel trim Imola this afternoon....

+1 on yourmechanic.com ... I hired them to do some work on my Saab. I provided my own parts to save a little extra. The guy was very cool, and he showed and explained to me what he was doing to the car. :thumbup

I asked for a quote to replace the starter. They asked if I would like to have the battery and alternator and starter checked and make sure it is indeed the starter for $30 first. Seemed reasonable so I said ok. Probably the person who asked me didn’t know where the starter was. After dropping the car off I get a call saying because of the starter location it’s gonna cost $50 more but they checked the battery and alternator but found no fault. At this point I should’ve said just tell me how much to replace the starter and to not check the starter condition cause it’s quite obvious it’s the starter that’s causing the no crank issue. But me being at work and busy said “ya whatever make sure it’s the starter before you tear apart stuff”. So i guess it cost me an additional $50 not $100.
Now I have an SES light which the generic auto zone code reader shows as p1515 and p0174. I called them up and told them about the SES light and they asked me to bring it back. I’m sure they’ll try and get me to pay again. How I wish I have a garage now so I didn’t have to deal with this crap and do it right myself...
