It's been a while since I've been on this site and work finally stopped blocking the sit (thought it was spam!).
That said, the ZHP is now full-on DD. Sold the cherokee last weekend.

Very nice. Love the signature btw--that quote and the bit about drifting a ToyoBaru while reading a book are two of my favorite Clarksonisms.
Clean and waxed the wheels, road rash and all!

I ordered a set of Hankook Ventus V12 evo2 tires for the factory style 135 wheels and installed them on 06/01. I bought them locally but they are about $530 shipped on www.discounttiredirect.com. Hankook also currently has a $100 MIR until the end of June and I think DTD gives you another $50 off (in the form of a Visa check card) if you purchase four tires and use their credit card. My car's just a DD so $800-$1000 for Continentals or Michelins wasn't worth it to me.

Did a little test fitting of the 135i rear calipers today. The M3 rotor backspacing is perfect, but the set screw is apparently in a different spot. Haven't decided what I'm going to do...

The set screw isn't entirely necessary - just helps to hold it on when changing them.

Did a thorough cleaning of my interior. Used my Swiffer to dust everything down, then followed up with a microfiber and some 303. Then I removed my WeatherTech mats, vacuumed those with my Dyson V8 cordless vacuum, then used the 3 different attachments to vacuum my interior. Finally, I used a very damp microfiber towel to scrub my steering wheel, shift knob, and leather seats.
Vacuumed out the trunk as well.
Done.

It looks fantastic as-is. Do you plan on doing the black console, dash, and armrest as well?
The current scheme is exactly like the brand new F30's (except for the airbag covers). 👍

It looks great as is, I agree. I only asked because the factory way to do it is with a black dash, armrest, and console. Some people do it that way, others don't, so it's personal preference.

Good point. And on the rear axle it's arguably less important. The E60 530i rotor allegedly has the same backspacing, which conveniently my old man drives. I'll take a look at his set screw tomorrow, otherwise I'll just go for it. I can always tap in a new hole on the rotor hat. Fronts will use stock 330 rotors thanks to the new bracket [emoji1303]
And undercarriage shots just for Peter. The existing bump stops were a bit discolored but in great condition (so I reused them). I also put a fresh coat of undercoating in both rear wells, as the factory coating was looking every bit of 12 years old.

Great work! I too vacuumed out the interior yesterday but at a gas station since I don't have a fancy Dyson cordless like you and our condo parking garage does not have any electrical outlets to use a regular vacuum. The rear was almost completely clean because I barely ever have passengers in the rear seats. I use a leather wipe every few weeks on my steering wheel to try to keep it free of dirt/oils.

I like having the dash have beige on it, so that won't change.
I plan on getting a black alcantara cover for the arm rest from Coby Wheel.
What's the "console"? The plastic thing in the middle that holds the arm rest and coin holder? Hadn't thought of that. Probably will leave that the same.

Removed bunch of dents on three panels: both right doors and boot lid. It was done through BMW CCA. Unfortunately, I forgot to take pictures before.
Next step would be a good paint correction.
Also, changed cabin and intake filters. Cleaned spare tire compartment. It was so dirty and dusty, especially after the welding of TMS plates. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170605/ce62a248829e23edbb8abea785faa47b.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170605/a4cbf16eb2ec01fdff35df4218f47512.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170605/a37f51ff633ee39b7cfbffd0249d7f13.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170605/8cff4029ff247f82ddc0b171bd8c9e99.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170605/d9c7a2f3a36d95fe7d53cfefae1396e5.jpg

It was just a Rustoleum rattle can. I figure if it lasts through hurricane season then I can look into better options down the road. It's a little grippy (I saw a couple grass trimmings had clung to it lol) but it seems to repel water very well.
I also made one of my rear trailing arms a guinea pig--I hit it with rust converter and a top coat of epoxy paint. It's something I read about when looking into subframe coating options. I'm planning on buying a used subframe, preloading new bushings, and swapping it in over summer, so I wanted to give this a 30 day trial of sorts.

Today got expensive.
Paid for my APEX FL-5 which are still being made.
Ordered 4 Falken RT615K for previously mentioned wheels.
Ordered new racing helmet SAH2015 for use on track with new wheels tires.
Realized I could also use that helmet for the drift event I have later this month (24-25)
Realized I needed tires for that drift event.
Ordered two pairs of rear tires (4 tires) for drift event.
Considering stud conversion kit from BW for when new wheels arrive.

Tried (and failed) to remove the lower bolts on the 192k/km factory struts. Those SOBs are seized. I broke a 3/8" extender, and bent one of my socket wrenches. It's getting a PB soak overnight, and we'll give it another go tomorrow. I'll be buying a 1/2" drive 18mm in the morning.
I also got my bench vise out of my storage unit up in Greensboro, so I can (hopefully) change out the caliper brackets for a 135i front test fitting. Those bolts are soaking overnight too. I think wheel clearance is going to be tight, so the two little weights will be coming off.

Those proved to be a giant pain in the ass. They were rusty and required a lot of effort to get a fraction of a turn.

yep, that's the minimum required for those pinch bolts - 1/2" drive and at least 24" of bar handle. a cheater extension for the bar handle is a good idea (i use the top half of my floor jack handle). go slow, and i like to wiggle the end of the bar handle a bit to simulate impact wrench action.
that sounded entirely inappropriate.

I installed new floor mats and 3 new lug nuts for the left front wheel. Why 3 new lug nuts you ask? Well I'll tell you. When I bought my car, I asked the dealer if there was anything mechanical he may have noticed that may need attention so I could address it when I received the car. He told me that after driving it, it felt like it could use new front control arm bushings. I was going to do a suspension refresh when I got the car anyway, so no biggie. Yesterday, when I was heading home, the front end started making clunking noises, then it started wobbling and it felt like the left front wheel was about to fall off, so I pulled over to take a look. As it turned out, the car didn't need new control arm bushings, what it needed was 3 lug nuts. The left front wheel was being held on by only 2 lug nuts and because of this, I’m guessing they continued to work themselves loose to the point of almost falling out. I bought a $29 box of 10 new lug nuts today from AutoZone and installed them. The front end feels fine now, no more clunking. The pathetic part of this story is that the car received a full inspection from a BMW dealership in California a few days before I bought it. I still have a copy of the inspection report with a big check mark by wheels and tires as A-OK!

How much longer of brakes does it give you under hard aggressive braking? I'm guess that's stock rotor size so the extra heat dissipation is from the size of the caliper as a "heat sink".

Bring on the pitchforks, but I can't stand AY or PY (I think the actual Performance calipers are Austin Yellow). It looks good on the right color combos, but it's not for me. Probably PTSD from cleaning up the poo of 6 newborn puppies which is alarmingly similar in color.

I'm going with classic yellow G2 from William after he moves back from DC, and fresh BMW decals. I bought some Brembo decals, but they look a little too boyracer for my tastes.

How much longer of brakes does it give you under hard aggressive braking? I'm guess that's stock rotor size so the extra heat dissipation is from the size of the caliper as a "heat sink".
They are stock rotor size (thanks to new brackets). And yes there's just a lot more surface to spread the heat across. I don't plan on getting to the track this year, but I'll probably replace these discs with some StopTech slotted this winter.

Negative. I've heard too many conflicting stories, thus turning me away. Ideally though, I'd like some Air Blue 80 for the windshield (same tint I think BP has on his car) for the UV protection/heat reduction, but I just put a sun shield up when I park anywhere. I've been using the shields since ~2005, so it's second nature at this point.

Finally got around to replacing the front brake pads, weren't too low but at 3-4mm they were making an obnoxious amount of noise just when driving. So put OEM pads on the front because my brother gets 30% off at the dealership so $80 for the set. Still can't get the damn front left rotor off, the one bolt to remove them is totally seized

I think that's the perfect amount for black interiors. I have roughly the same (38% + factory window meters out to ~35% total). Like you say, the black interior makes it look darker than it is.

Not bad. If you're not keeping the rotor, just get a rubber hammer and bang away on the outer diameter of the rotor in a star pattern. It should break it loose.

Schmiedmann has some big brake kits in yellow and silver that look pretty sweet for a bit over $1,700 including shipping. Their yellow calipers look great, but not for me. I used one since I bought one. I wanted to make the installation foolproof. I tried it without at first, but it didn't take long to change my mind.
Though I've read a few success stories that didn't use the puller. One of the guides has directions to remove the cabin filter housing and wire harness, but I find at another place that all you have to do is remove the filter cover.

I was always curious about this does anybody know why the coupes got adaptive lights and sedans did not?
There's certain things that BMW did that I can understand like Coupe's getting Park distance control from the factory on more models than sedans because cops have sea pillars that are hard to see out of than the sedans.
So why do coupes get adaptive headlights but not sedans?

I ordered front+rear extended, stainless brake lines for the 135i brakes from RallyRoad. I also bought a Schwaben brake bleeder, and ATE SL6 for a flush.
I've got a little mush in the pedal, so there's some air in the line. Plus the existing fluid looks like iced tea, so it's long overdue. Luckily my commute is 1 very slow mile, and I'm driving the company Camry twice this week.

Tire Kingdom offered a similar service (I'm not sure if it's still a thing now that it's NTB). If I'm not mistaken, it was for the life of the tire, not the life of the vehicle. I could be wrong, it's been about 7 years since I was in a Tire Kingdom.

I'm running 235/40-18 at all four corners. These are pretty wide 235s, I think. nothing decent comes in 245 (absolutely no extreme performance summer) and 255 has too much shoulder to fit in the front with et35 and no camber plates, I believe. nope. born in CT, lived there til i was 6, then in VT for 20 years. i married a canadian girl and have been in southern ontario for 11 years now... ironically i live further south now than i did when i lived in VT! (just barely.)
southern BC would be nice. close to family, mountains and ocean...climate is really nice. and trevor and i could be dorifto buddies.

It's about as expected. I'm not the biggest fan of the downtown traffic and commotion. There are no driving roads. The food is good in terms of diverse options usually.

Oil change and filter replacement, I went with Redline 15w50 and MANN
Transmission fluid change with D4 ATF. I had three track days on the old fluid and it was GROSS, although only 1000 miles
Power steering drain and refill with D4 ATF. My reservoir kept blowing fluid everywhere during hard track days. Not sure what was in there
Differential fluid change. The diff came with 75w90. Then upped it to 75w110, still too thin. Trying 75w140 now

They really could use another coat or two. It probably would've been enough paint had I not been starting with dark grey. I was impressed how far the G2 kit went, though, considering how much surface area there is on these bigass calipers. They look good from viewing distance, but close-up isn't perfect. I might get a second kit to make it better meet "Spenser standards."

I purchased them (just a high temp decal from eBay). Most of the BMW specific decals were somehow ///M themed, and I'm not that kind of person. Even though these are legit Brembos, I'm not sold on the Brembo decals yet. I'm going to keep my eye out for a better BMW option.
So, your other question: G2 is a high gloss, high temp epoxy paint. It doesn't require a clear coat. The decals were placed overtop of the paint after it had cured a full 24 hours. With that said, once I make a final decision on the decals, I will mask off the fronts and give them a coat or two of high temp VHT clear just to make sure there's no unwanted peeling.

Just drove 40 miles today to work. The steering felt lighter and the car accelerates little more easily and the ride is slightly better on the horrendous MI roads. No significant differences but enough to be noticeable. Overall I really like how they look and how they slightly changed the way the car drives now. ^ looks good! Switching from black cube? How is the condition of your black cube if so?
On topic:
I have gone a little crazy in anticipation of the OG/NB sedan arriving. Within the past few days I have purchased the following:
- Cooling System Overhaul Kit (FCP Euro) including radiator
- TMS Power Pulleys (incl. alternator pulley - didn't have this on my last pulley kit on the coupe, wondering if there's any noticeable difference?)
- TMS CF Strut Bar
- Dinan Air Intake (ECS Tuning has this priced at $256 and claims +11HP/+9TQ so we'll see. I've never bought any Dinan stuff before but the price was right...)
- Coby Alcantara-wrapped ZHP shift knob
- Shark injector (Turner gave this to me for $260 given I bought one from them years ago. The only reason I couldn't transfer the old Shark to the new ZHP is because I could not get power to the old car to uninstall it...boo)
- ///M dead pedal
- ///M door sills
- Apex ARC-8 18x8.5 ET38 / 18x9 ET42 - Race Silver (I feel like the silver will contrast nicely against the OG)
- Rogue Engineering OCTANE SSK (I had the UUC Evo/DSSR in the last car, want to see how the RE kit compares - it is a bit cheaper)
I had to put the brakes on there (no pun intended). I am going to send the car straight into the shop to have all of the above put on so that once I am ready to drive again, the car will be exactly as I want it.
Down the road I will need to get to the VANOS and DISA. Tires are ok atm, as is suspension as PO just put new OEM shocks on.
The car has halogen headlights(!) so no retrofit nonsense needed...will just upgrade the bulbs.
Also need to get some Leatherique for leather treatment. I had Alcantara on the last car so the leather care will be new for me. Gotta take care of that sweet NB interior!
ALSO - I forgot I still have a brand new, unopened Khoalty E46 M-Tech II front bumper for facelift coupes (ZHPs). If anyone needs it let me know. I bought it for the coupe with the intention of replacing the pitted/cracked bumper but never got around to putting it on. I'll list it separately in the parts forum. $250 shipped OBO

The CDV delete made a huge difference, but I still felt like the car and I couldn't get on the same page very often in first gear. Admittedly, I spent 4 years in auto-land, but it was something I never experienced in 7 years with the Mazda.
Last week ZHPizza and I coded out the clutch requirement for the ignition. Then I put in a UUC Big Boy V3 clutch stop, and now the relationship between my clutch and I has been completely mended.

For me the stop eliminates a lot of the empty travel below the (dis)engaging point. My last car's clutch took up really low, which I'm sure has a lot to do with why I felt so inconsistent in this car.

Compounded, sealed, and waxed the MINI Cooper S the other day. The exterior was not in perfect condition when I picked her up last winter, I tried my best to bring her back to life without repainting the front end and refinishing the wheels. Snapped some pictures after the detailing session. Picked up deafening scraping sound when driving to and back from the gas station. I thought it was either the brake worn out or bad front axle, turned out to be a stone got stuck between the brake rotor and dust shield...

It should go pretty smooth. It's a good opportunity to clean up some of the crud in the area.
The box ECS shipped it in was huge.

Replaced fuel filter this evening. 80709 miles. I got stranded at the gym last Friday night. Car would start and run for about 15 seconds and then shut off sounding like it was running out of gas. About an hour and a half later it did start up and run without issue back to the house. I think it's been soft failing for a while now as I've been trying to track down a rough idle issue. Hoping the fuel pump eliminates this.
New windshield washer pump. Had to be the cheapest and easiest fix on the car.

Agree!! I did this a few months back.
Oil change. Mobil 1 Euro and Mann. Refreshed power steering fluid. Injector cleaner. Put about 135 miles on her with the top down just to be sure everything was OK! It was..face hurts from smiling all day!

Does anyone know where I may find some gloss black grilles? I must be missing something because I can't find them anywhere without the ///M tri-colors.

Didn't someone say that the sedan BMW Performance gloss black grilles are NLA, and ECS doesn't seem to be making their version anymore either?

Got my driver's side airbag replaced--finally replacing a third and last airbag (three others had already been done, thankfully). The service manager at the dealership said my ZHP was in--and I quote--"fantastic" shape, and then he commenced to babble repeatedly, "I REALLY like that car"... "I REALLY like that car". I was beaming, of course, and thinking, " and you guys will never, ever work on it!" (other than free recalls) : )

Pulled the front wheels to diagnose a clicking sound. Pretty sure one of the ball joints is shot. Also tried to go ahead and replace the tie rods. Much like everything on this effing car, the outer ends are completely seized to the front knuckles. I swear to god my next car is coming from Arizona.
I got pissed off and decided to start my prepping for the ceramic weekend. I guess I'm walking to the office tomorrow.

What product are you putting on? Professionally or yourself? What prep work are you doing? At what point does bread become toast?

Wheels:
Iron-X, then Meg's Wheel Brightener, followed immediately with soapy water and clay bar (I like Zymol soap, it suds like crazy). Since they're basically new I'll skip the polish step. Then I'll hit it with CarPro Eraser in prep for the ceramic, and coat with Dlux.
Paint:
Iron-X, Zymol bath and clay, dry.
Then I'll wet sand and apply touch up in a couple places, and wet sand again after dry. Then Meg's 105 compound with a MF cutting pad in a few places, but otherwise a yellow pad. Follow that with M205 polish with a white pad. This should complete the correction.
I'll use CarPro Eraser to clean off any chemical residue from the polish, and then apply the ceramic.
I went with the GTechniq EXO + Crystal Serum Light (CSL) kit.

loosen ball joint nut. then, get a ball joint tool - either the pry bar type or the threaded-stud type - install and put the ball joint in tension, the tap the outside of the tie rod end (at the ball joint) with a 5lb sledge. you don't have to kill it, just tap it with some authority. it will come out.

Even in summer, additional heat really helps with touch-up paint. I'll wash, clay, and handle the touch-ups after work this evening. Then I'll leave some incandescent lamps shining on the areas overnight to expedite/reinforce the curing. Larry Kosilla (AmmoNYC) has a pretty great video on his paint touch-up method, which worked quite well on the X3 a couple years ago.

Hank Hill would be proud of your recommendation. Unfortunately, I lack the necessary propane and propane accessories.

This will be helpful when I get to it. I guess I'll just order some Lemmy control arms from FCP today.
Two questions: I read somewhere the FCABs are single use, meaning even if the bushings are good/fresh, they're not intended to be used again if I swap the arms. Is this correct?
Second: is there a way to test the ball joints (read: confirm they are bad) without dropping the arm and moving the stud around like a joystick? This is, of course, assuming those aren't seized too.

New wiper blades. It had the Bosch icons and my OCD only allows the older model, original blades with the spoiler on the driver side blade. It's weird, I know.
Yesterday did some improvements to the ZHP's lair. Installed some roof shelving and some more wall shelving.

It should be reusable as long as you remove it as a unit, as in don't separate the bushing from the mount it's pressed into.

Installed a new fuel pump relay as preventative maintenance. Also wired up the AEs using a fuse tap and connecting it to fuse #23.

I'm piecing it together. I'll probably try the paint technique on the armrests, but I'm keeping the shifter black. I can't handle the reflections the silver shifter gets when the angle of the sun is *just* right. Or maybe I'm just greedy, idk.

I actually liked it, but it could be partly because my dash pieces were all in excellent condition. But the silver does break everything up very nicely, and it definitely benefits from the contrast.

Thanks, we'll see haha. I don't expect it to be for everyone, but I'm weird.

I picked up the Zimmerman rotors and textar pads from fcp euro. Looking to install this week some time. Stock calipers. The floating rotors are absolute toast.

If you zoom in you can see all the holes are cracking.
I wish we could get a decent floating rotor without the holes. Maybe we can; I just haven't found it.

There should be plenty of choices for the stock rotors. Mine are the 345mm csl rotors so they're even more expensive to replace.

These aren't technically floating rotors. They are still solidly attached to the hub.
Floating rotors are 2-piece, with a rotor that is attached to a hat by some sort of fastener.
I think the BMW ones are considered "semi-floating".
You can indeed get floating rotors with slots, but they are WAY outside of a reasonable budget. You're best off with some standard 1-piece rotors with slots.
If you don't want blanks but you want an affordable rotor that doesn't have holes, FCP has StopTech slotted rotors for 330's, which are priced very reasonably.
