Looks great! How does it ride and handle with the new setup?

The ride is awesome....but just getting rid of those PoS BFG's made a huge difference..I don't think the RTAB and limiters have made a huge presence mostly because the bushings I removed didn't really look that bad!

I didn't notice a difference when I replaced my RTABs either, mine were in good shape too. Tires though, they can make a huge difference. Glad you're happy with it.

I cleaned up the front and rear windows with Invisible Glass. The windshield looked filthy at night. Hopefully that helps out. Also, put on a new Schrader valve cap to replace the nonexistent one noted at the reunion. And I cleaned up the steering wheel with the Mr Clean eraser and a razor. It's had a few hours to dry and feels better. It needs another go around, but it feels better. It will do for now.

That's a solid days work. I always wanted to do a square 135 set up before I wrecked mine.
I was thinking that your alignment would make turn in sharper but it looks like your front tires were already near 0 toe and actually came in a little.

I only run .5 degrees camber in the rears and still am wearing the insides of my tires on the m. It could be the LSD and my heavy foot though...

This week has been spent slowly preparing the 911 for hibernation.

Tuesday
swapped over to the original Carrera S II wheels with the older Michelins, so I can put my Carrera Sports with the new Michelins into the basement for the winter

Thursday

changed the oil & filter, let the old oil drain for 2 hours
packed up most of the car chemicals and put them in the basement for the season
reorganized a big storage shelf that will be inaccessible with the 911 parked in front of it

Friday

took the car to the Porsche dealer to find out why I was getting a CEL - turns out my oil filler tube is getting old and brittle, and not sealing well with the oil cap. They managed to get it tight on there, but recommended replacement in the spring. Unfortunately, it's a bitch to install, and will likely take 2 hours labour making this a $400+ repair
filled up the tank with Sta-bil and fresh 94 octane

Today

installed a shelf above the 911's garage spot to store some summer-only stuff
gave the car, wheels and tires a thorough wash in 4C/39F and pouring rain, brought the car into the garage and dried it

Tomorrow will be the big day to park the car into it's resting spot for the next 5 months, on a sheet of plastic with the overinflated tires on HD styrofoam pads. It will be interesting, as the new parking spot for the car is really tight and it will take some very precise positioning. Once it's parked, I'll plug in the battery maintainer, give the car a big hug, and put the car covers on it. Yes, covers - I use a soft, fitted Porsche indoor cover against the paint, and then cover that with a multi-fit all-weather car cover to keep any snow that blows into the garage from wetting the indoor cover, as well as keeping all the dust off it.

Then, for the next five months.... anticipation! :foottap

I imagine the new rubber gasket may form a better seal than the old one on the OE cap. But I changed mine for purely aesthetic reasons.

Also: installed new BMW Performance gloss black grilles. :) The ones I took off were super janky eBay specials I'm sure. Forgive me for the lack of washing..

The cap looks nicer, though I kind of like the 90 degree-nes of the locking on the square one.

Yesterday:
-Changed oil + filter
-Tightened drivers side swaybar link
-Re-torqued wheels (alignment shop over-tightened)

Today:
-Part 2 of steering wheel trimming

I bought a lint shaver and hit the steering wheel with that. It took a while, but it got rid of the longer pieces of fluff. The wheel feels smoother. Now I just need to do a second run with the Mr Clean Eraser and I think it will be done. I'll save that for next week.

Well, I tried to wash my car today, but to my wonderful surprise the sprinkler system was shut off last week...
So there's two spickets on the house, but they're directly in front and in back, with my drive on the side, time to buy some new hoses, because boy I'm not ready to accept the idea of not being able to wash my car for the rest of winter starting at the end of October.

On a different note, went out to dinner a couple of nights ago and couldn't find parking on the street. Parked in some sketchy alley, but to my surprise ended up being a great shot lol

How do you like the alcantara cleaner?

I like it. It's a pump bottle, and it comes out as a foam so it's easy to control and it more or less stays where you put it. Plus it smells good--kind of a mild fruity smell, definitely not a strong chemical smell.

It took a little experimentation to get the technique right, but I finally got it. I spray an ample amount on a small area, then brush it with normal pressure until the foam turns brown. Then I soak up the nasty foam with the rag. Move on to another section until the whole wheel is done, then do another round. I did this until the foam was coming out clean, or until it looked like the fabric was starting to suffer.

Luckily my wheel is in GREAT shape (surprising after 113k miles!) and I got nice results. On and off, I probably spent about 90 minutes on it. Easier because the wheel is off the car--I swapped with a leather sport wheel a while back because the matted alcantara was too slippery. I'll probably put this one back on now that it's all clean.

Good stuff guys. As for myself, on Friday the MINI got an alignment at my Indy. Some of you may remember the dealer performed a free alignment 3 months ago. But they did a bad job (car was pulling to the right, steering wheel not centered). So I asked my Indy to fix the dealer's work.

I've been wanting a mirror with auto-dim and HomeLink since I got my car over a year ago, but just wasn't willing to spend the crazy money people were asking for them. Needing the special 315Mhz version for the vert compounded my apprehension. But, I set up a search on eBay and just kept watching. Patiently. Finally, one popped up on eBay a couple of weeks ago. The seller listed it for $139 w/free shipping. Not bad, but I used the "make offer" button to put it an offer for $120 w/free shipping. Hey, if you don't ask... Anyway, he took the offer.

Got it installed last night and everything works as expected. Yes!

Check out the seller's eBay store slogan from the action photo. LOLs.

Now I just need to figure how to wire the one I bought for my wife's E83 X3 that doesn't have the necessary wires.

Cheers,
SC

Shock/strut mount kit
Rear rotors & pads

Swapped to Style 47 17" wheels
Re-glued C pillar covering
Torqued the springs in the center console, so the armrest springs open properly
Replaced the license plate lightbar (original sockets had rusted out)

Still need to
Order tires
Replace ebrake pads (didn't see they were perished until I did the rear rotors.

While redoing the suspension, I discovered that a previous owner had installed an iSimple iPod adapter. I fished out the connector from the center console, and tested it out, no luck getting it to work, unfortunately.

Does anyone have any recommendations on replacement ZHP floor mats?
My carpeted ones have totally lost the backside velcro stuff so they're just sitting loose right now and keep riding up on the accelerator. I'm pretty sure I still have most of the plastic pieces that fit into the floor, but I don't want to buy the exact same ones only for the backing to rip off.

I have the heavy black rubber mats, I don't think they are Weathertech. I believe they are BMW OEM. They came with the car and at first thought I would prefer to have carpet mats but with the sandy environment around here these are so much easier. Vacuum if they get dirty or take them out and hose them off. They are held in place by hooks. They never move.

Not today but late last week:

Replaced -
Idler pulley
Tension pulley
Water pump
Thermostat housing

Water pump was probably original 68827 miles. You can hear the bearings rattle if you shake it, other two pulleys were bone dry as well. T-stat housing was leaking around the sensor. Still need to do the the AC tension pulley but that's easy to get to.

Actually, Tapatalk reduces the quality of pics no matter what phone you use. Not only does it reduce, it does so quite drastically. :(

That's why for some pics I go through the extra effort of uploading to Flickr, then grabbing the link and posting it on the forum.

Not if you upload it directly to Flickr and then link it from Flickr.
If you use Tapatalk's upload feature, it'll reduce the quality. It does not do that for linked pictures (linked from other sites).

I like it so much better WITH the gruppe m. The car doesn't sound as angry. At higher rpm's the sounds becomes a little muted but with the gruppe m you don't notice it that much because of the induction noise. I've said it before, the combination of gruppe m and corsa is just about perfect...

It's still double digit mostly here in Vancouver. I'm traveling to France next week so I know when I get back the temps will be colder.

I also changed rear camber back to flatter for this setup as well as took out the two sliding guide pins that are in the front brake, cleaned them and used anti-seize on them to see if it gets rid of my squeak that happens when I come to a stop at a light level.

I just changed to my Blizzaks. Are yours LM60's? My car has changed a lot like yours from PSS. PSS is a lot quieter too! If I take a chicane too quick, that delay in right/left load transfer will send my car into a sideways slide, more bias to the rear. It's entertaining!! Any cloverleaf on ramp/off ramp at a speeds approaching "slow spirited" is met with DSC blinking constantly which I can feel the front ABS system is working and the car trying to rotate.

My air pressure is 34 front and 36 rear.

I'll play around with air pressures more to get closer to neutral handling then change suspension stiffness to further my car closer to what I want it to do when I chuck it around. LOL

We are definitely the minority here! I rarely have clean hands and didn't want to ruin. The feel of the wheel isn't what I wanted either. Too slippery maybe? I'm not sure but the leather makes me feel right at home.

Keeping the Alcantara clean does take a bit more effort but the exclusivity of it makes it worth it to me at least. Have the Coby wheel and boots in both of my cars and no issues. Even the wife has no complaints about it. Says her hands don't get cold during the winter months either.

At least it won't dry out and crack like leather. And then good luck trying to find a replacement.

So I decided to use dr.beasleys Alcantara cleaner. Give that a try next.

I haven't really cleaned the seats and they look pretty good to me. They also appear to age better than the leather seats.

Keeping the Alcantara clean does take a bit more effort but the exclusivity of it makes it worth it to me at least. Have the Coby wheel and boots in both of my cars and no issues. Even the wife has no complaints about it. Says her hands don't get cold during the winter months either.

I like the alcantara wheel in the winter too. Ideally, I would have a leather wheel for the summer. The perforated tri-stitch wheels look awesome. I'll see how the re-wrap works out maintenance wise.

If all goes to plan, a re-wrapped wheel and alcantara armrest cover should be coming in tomorrow from Coby.

We are definitely the minority here! I rarely have clean hands and didn't want to ruin. The feel of the wheel isn't what I wanted either. Too slippery maybe? I'm not sure but the leather makes me feel right at home.

My problem is that my hands sweat a good bit when holding the steering wheel. I can go wash my hands with that orange pumice stuff, which totally dries out my hands, then go touch the steering wheel and my hands would be wet within a minute. :(
The alcantara wheel would dry my hands out, which isn't a bad thing - but the bad part is that I knew that the "hotness" I felt underneath was the alcantara soaking up the moisture, getting matted down. Just the thought of getting matted down drove me nuts. lol

At least it won't dry out and crack like leather. And then good luck trying to find a replacement.

Funny you say that. I've never once seen a dried out and cracked leather wheel. It's practically impossible considering how much it gets touched by oily hands, and that can be cleaned. It seems to build up enough where it will never crack. As for seats, treat 'em with Leatherique Rejuvenator once or twice a year and you're good to go - they'll never dry out that way. I imagine having tint helps as well to keep the UV exposure to a minimum. Leather is pretty low maintenance in general and super easy to clean.

Alcantara just looks so cool. Oh well.

Had the convertible headliner replaced. Driver side batwing had broken and ripped the headliner. Replaced with black headliner from same vintage (2004) M3 convertible. Original headliner was gray. While at the upholstery shop had a rip in the driver's seat replaced with matching black leather and had the seats re-dyed black because there was wear on the driver bolsters and fading in general of the front seats. The interior now looks muy bueno with the black headliner and newly dyed black seats.

The upholstery shop had not done a BMW convertible. The shop owner said it had a completely different assembly and operating arrangement than what he was accustomed to and now that he did my car he was fully versed on how to do others. He also said: "I really like your car". Positive words from a shop that mostly does Mustangs and other American hardware.

I just watched a YouTube video. It's pretty straightforward, nothing too complicated. The kit came with the car when I bought it but wasn't in the right packaging. All the pieces (studs and nuts) had BMW part numbers. The previous owner said he thinks he ordered them from Turner motorsports and this kit looks similar to that. Just make sure you use thread locker!

Be sure not to pay full price for SiriusXM. A few days before your contract is expiring, call and say you want to cancel. They'll ask why. I always say it's too expensive and I'm trying to save money. They'll offer a 12 month plan between $77 and $90/year. If it's the higher I usually say no and they offer $25 for 5 months. I'm on my 4th or 5th 5-month contact on two of our cars.

A bath and some new PIAA super silicone wipers.

The PIAA wipers require you to run them for 5 minutes in dry conditions to get the silicone on the windshield. So I gave the stereo a workout. I replaced the whole shebang a while a go, and for anyone that was wondering, 75 watts RMS to the front is more than enough.

Shift boot from Colby Wheel installed, love that guy, does some amazing work to say the least. Turns out the previous owner actually had a suede sock cover over the original shift boot and hand brake, so that was a pleasant surprise to be able to pull those out and see next to new preserved alcantara! So I ended up taking the new stuff and used it in the same way by just covering the original, so much softer than the other suede cover.28162

He bought the car with them.

You can get a full kit at ECS tuning that includes the brackets to mount them on the car. It costs a pretty penny though...
There are two kits, one with ECS 2-piece rotors (which is cheaper right now, surprisingly) and the OE kit.

I bought that kit when it was $1200 at ECS a few years ago. They were nice, but I can tell you that they don't stand up to track use. They're great for the street though. I have a set of Wilwoods now, which definitely don't look as good as the Brembos did. My sig pic is from when I still had the Brembos, and it is one of my favorite pics partly because of those calipers.

Mine is a 4-piston Superlite setup. Technically, Wilwood doesn't offer kits for our cars - it's up to vendors to buy their calipers and assemble them into kits, including make the brackets for them that will fit our cars.

My kit happens to be from UUC Motorwerks, and is the four-wheel kit:

http://store.uucmotorwerks.com/super-performance-brake-kit---wilwood-superlite-four-wheel--e46-328325323-p532.aspx

This is the rear-only kit:

These kits feature M3 rotors.

17's fit fine. The issue isn't the wheel diameter, it's the inside of the spokes. The Style 68 winter wheels I have require spacers because of the design of the spokes; they curve right where the calipers are. I imagine Style 135's, which are 18" to also have this clearance issue due to the design of the spokes.

Thanks. It's good to know

How do you guys do that? LOL. Do you Baja 2000 your E46???
I was backing up into the camping spot, didn't see a pice of wood and it cracked my liner, which proved that ZHP is not really suitable for a light off roading-:)

When I bought my ZHP, it was completely missing the front passenger fender liner.

Got the correct AUX cable, 12 pin v. the 3 pin that I originally got.

Two cabin filters to be installed tomorrow.

And interior trim clips because I know I will break a few doing my AUX install.

Added one quart of engine oil to the 2011 X3. Didn't expect that with 64,200 miles on the clock. Hopefully I can make it to the next oil change (6000 more miles) without adding more.

how did you make those rear wheels fit? they look awesome, but aren't those M fitment? it looks like you actually have tire clearance.

Hate to say it, but 1 quart between normal oil changes is NOT considered abnormal by most BMW service departments.....it is for me, but not to who it counts!

Installed a carbon fiber diffuser! Fitment is great! Just took a little time and definitely some effort to get it lined up right. It didn't come with any holes drilled but you can see in the molding where they are supposed to be drilled.
