M3 finally showed up! Well worth the wait. Going to have a full paint correction done to it. Had to take a pic of it with the ZHP too behind work. :)

Two co-workers and I went for lunch yesterday. I drove the ZHP. They are not car people, both of them own a Prius. What got their attention was the MT. The lady said: I never learned how to drive MT. The guy said: I knew how to drive MT when I was young, but probably can't do it now.
LOL ... Yeah, MT is not for everyone.

I shouldn't say I wouldn't ever get an FI BMW but I am going to avoid it for as long as possible. I was considering an F80 M3 with the Competition Package and getting it stripped down like this M3 but at the end of the day it's very much like a 340i and doesn't have that M car feel like the E90 does.
I am selling my S4 on Wednesday and the ZHP will become the full time daily and as I have stated earlier in this thread the next car I add to the stable will be a 997.1 GT3 in 1-2 years to hang with the ZHP and M3 :)

I would never pay the premium of the RS though and it will be a weekend street car. When I see one a 997.1 pop up in the 70-80k range with CCB's, low miles and the right options I will buy it

What did I do? I had my ZHP aligned. And I am a little bent.
Recently, I dropped my ZHP off at my indy to do summer tire changeover (he stores my mounted tires/wheels for me) and he also did new dampers, sway bar end links, upper strut mounts, RTABs and RSMs. And sent it out for an alignment.
Since then, I have barely put 500 miles on it. I have been driving my 03.
Every time I drove it, it just felt a little "off." Tracked straight, but with a little wiggle at speed and with my highly calibrated butt dyno, I knew something was amiss.
So, I took it by the local tire shop before my morning meeting. They put it up on the rack and one of the techs came out and asked if the BMW was mine... He stated that the alignment was off and looks like one of the wheels tossed a mounting weight. The weight I can deal with. An alignment that was off in less than 500 miles is unacceptable.
Just before my meeting, took the alignment sheet to my indy and told him to raise holy hell with the shop that did the last alignment. Toe (F&R) was way off, no wonder it felt like ass when I get to "spirited driving speeds."
I'm happy now. My ZHP feels better.

Look, before you posted that photo, I thought we could be friends.
I have a special place in my heart for air cooled turbo 911s. The last car that I drove that truly scared me. Scared me knowing that under the bonnet, there was a scheme going on to snatch the life out of me. Flat 6, turbo and lots of lag says one thing... "I will try to kill Lazlo."
Recently, my g/f, quite sarcastically, asked me, "What are you buying next?" My answer was very simple, "A car that scares me." She looked at me like I had a dick growing out of my forehead.
The rational part of my brain tells me that you can get killed driving anything as soon as you run out of talent, good ideas and pavement. But, that very special 930 on and around the 95 in NV on a high speed burn was honestly trying to kill me. I need.

An hour is a very long time to be swapping out pads at the track... I barely have time to get my car unpacked, tires swapped, and tech'd, let alone adding pad swaps to the mix. :(

Removal of the HID Angel eyes was the 2nd thing I did to my M3 the day I did the oil change. They look so stupid on cars they don't belong on or come factory on. Halogen ones FTW keeping it OEM.
Tonight I took the M3 for a cruise after work then washed up the ZHP! About to finally install my Z4M FCABs and RTABs tomorrow! I also finally picked up my 216's from the installer. I went with Super Sports. I can't wait to get my car aligned and put them on! I really need to make a progress thread for my ZHP.

I went with Super Sports. I can't wait to get my car aligned and put them on! I really need to make a progress thread for my ZHP.

looks great, can't wait to see them mounted on the car! :cheers
Removal of the HID Angel eyes was the 2nd thing I did to my M3 the day I did the oil change. They look so stupid on cars they don't belong on or come factory on. Halogen ones FTW keeping it OEM.

This....
I have always wanted to find the right Halogen ones. I currently have the really bright, ice white ones from Umnitza (Orion V2 I believe), and I have never really been 100% happy with them. Where can you find a quality set of Halogen/OEM colored ones!!??

I think they are 25lbs for the 18x8.5's which I am running square vs. the 135 that weights 28ish lbs for the 18x8.5

I don't think there is a quality aftermarket angel eye anywhere. I know my buddy Alec (hi its me alec) on the forums had halogen ones for years but they aren't working any more.

Perhaps Umnitza Orion V2's? They offer gold (which I would imagine is close to OE color?) or amber as well...

I'm sure you can find them oem Amber k (3000 likely). Doubt they'll be halogen though. The trouble is with aftermarket the actual rings light up. With the oem angel eyes the bulb inside the headlight unit reflects into a clear glass ring. It's a much larger process than just some rings with led lights in them or at the ends of them on some models.

Just before I saw this I was on their site (which is confusing to navigate BTW), and tracked down those colors, 'Gold', 'Amber'. Neither of them have many detailed pictures, or any photos of them on a vehicle. So I contacted them, and am waiting to hear back.
The Gold is looking more like what I want, but I need to see some pics first, and maybe track someone down for a review. I also asked them, since I already have the wire harness all set up on my car currently (running the Orion V2 6000k), would I be able to just order the rings themselves for a plug and play application to what's already installed. They are the same make/company as far as I am aware. And both 'colors' are LED. The rings separately plug into a little beige box before all the harness bits come into play anyway... Sound like a viable option to you??

From what I've seen, most harnesses are the same: a relay circuit with a trigger circuit that goes to the DME the only thing that might be different are the connectors on the ends that connect to the rings

This is what I'm hoping they provide more insight on... Who knows though, they'll probably say it wont work even if it does, just to make a sale. Hell, I'd even pay the full price for just the rings if I can get what I want...

All dialed in now that I'm done with playing with the height. I had specs for less toe than now but it needed to be a high number because of camber so the tires don't wear as quick. He showed me why the tires would wear is the toe was 0 versus what he set it as. It needed to toe in because the inside will turn slower than the outside when cambered.

Then I removed the rear door cards to reseal the vapors with butyl tape. Hopefully this should solve the leaking I'm having. Plan on doing the front tomorrow as the passenger side leaks too.
Also tried to isolate some rattles today. I swear this is an ongoing process. I used some silicone sealant on the clips holding the door panels on, And taped up some of the loose cables as well as I could. I then stuffed some rags up into the rear deck, seems to help a little but time will tell.
I have a "squeak" somewhere around the rear seats. I have been trying to find it every since I bought the car, but with no luck. Happens when I drive on uneven roads, and is decently loud. Almost like leather rubbing on leather. But I still haven't been able to find it. Anyone deal with this? Very annoying!

I used dynamat and dynaliner to sound deaden my car far a more quiet 12 hour highway run next week. Sound deadened the doors, rear quarter panel, and trunk with strategic placement. I only added about 2lbs extra to the car. So far road noise is very solid. It's hard to explain but it's just more peaceful. Exhaust sound is the same, and the doors close with authority and bass. There's no extra rattle and it just a thud then silence!

I remember driving around with the fuel pump cover off. There is a dramatic increase in sound coming from that and it's only minimized by that black metal plate. How does the car sound now?
Edit: Now that I see your rear seating sheet metal there are a lot of edges and creases to minimize resonance already. Did the extra sound deadening do much?

Having the back seat out makes a huge difference--much more cabin noise. Haven't driven it yet but I'm guess ing the two layers I put down will be better than the crumbly single layer of OE stuff that was there.

I think I must have saved 5-8lbs using this method and removing the old OEM Rubber material that crumbled like a sandcastle when I wave hits it. The interior resonance for high frequencies is reduced even more from the sum of what panels I have damped. I can talk quietly at speed with my passenger and not ask them to speak up. LOL

Rasp terminated!!!
After driving for the first 20 minutes I feel like I just performed a vasectomy on the car. While the Eisenmann exhaust screams, the tone is now smoother and all low to mid bass. It sounds a bit like an aggressive M54B30 now.
I didn't know what I had until I reduced the rasp 95%. I did feel partially empty when I gave it! But it sounds like nothing is broken. LOL. I'll see how it goes as I drive it more. The resonator probably needs to break in more with heat. My stock untouched section 1 is sitting at the side of the house ready to provide rasp when I want it back.

Yup I have a spare section one in mint condition. So that was the part I decided to hack up and TIG weld while my existing section one was on my car. The AR20 just filled in a section where it was just straight pipe.
Everything is more broken in after driving for over an hour now. Every time I stopped it smelled sweet. All the good manufacturing stuff burning away!
I'm getting used to the smoother/more refined tone. My friend said on the outside when I give it, about 10% of the rasp escapes at the mid rev range and up.
This is what the AR20 looks like inside:

Working on the upper/lower balljoints/bushings on the trailing arm. Got one ball joint out and new one in without too much drama. Was working on the lower bushing, but it's apparently too seized in there and I managed to shear the fully threaded bolt in the Koch toolset.
For reference, it appears to be a M12x1.75x140mm bolt made of stainless steel (A2-70). I ordered a Class 10.9 steel bolt as a replacement which should be a bit stronger. Hopefully that works.

Yeah I did grease the crap out of the bolt, but I guess I'll have to get some heat there too. Was hoping to avoid that with the limited clearance and maneuverability under there

wowzers. that is seized! i removed all of those ball joints and every bushing in the rear end with that tool, no issues. what were you pressing with on the other side? also, i sprayed both outer bushing/ball joint casings with PB Blaster (the old units), before pressing them out with the koch tool.

Well I was just using the fittings mentioned on the instruction sheet, and was cranking against that assembly with a lot of force before the bolt ended up shearing. Did spray it in PB blaster overnight. Might try some more (or just nut up and heat it with a torch).

Shop offered to have their paint guy touch it up but I'm thinking I can probably get more from the insurance. For instance the shadowline trim has some pretty deep gashes and we all know a new OEM set of that trim isn't cheap. We'll see what happens.

I followed a method someone in the 5series forums mentioned for scrubbing the laces with a toothbrush then the wheel itself with a horsehair brush.....you can see the outcome...the shiny side is before it was cleaned, the nice matte look is after cleaning. Yes, it's amazing how clean a leather wheel can come out if you use the right product. I use Leatherique Pristine Clean with the same results.
The problem though is that once the wheels even get that shiny to begin with, they don't stay clean for long once you clean them. I replaced my old leather wheel because after cleaning, the wheel would end up just as shiny and slimy as before cleaning within a matter of 2 or 3 days. It was too much to keep it up, so I ended up buying a new wheel. That wheel was pretty old though - it was almost original to the car. The PO replaced the alcantara wheel under CPO with this leather one and it was on the car when I bought it at 75k miles. I had just replaced it this past fall, and the car had probably over 220k when I had replaced it. It was in great condition overall, just got too tiresome to clean it so often to keep it matte looking.
Your wheel looks like it's in good enough shape to stay clean for a while though. :thumbsup

Shiny = bad. That is the collection of excess oils that are on the surface.
Leather, when it is new and fresh, is matte, and is soft and supple. If you have a sedan with leather seats and don't know what the new leather feels like, the fold down rear armrest should provide you with unused leather that you can feel. Clean and well hydrated leather should look and feel just like that. You'll notice that it is nice and matte.

I can't speak to the process of other products, but I imagine them to be the same if I had to take a guess.
First you must vacuum your seats thoroughly and wipe them down with a damp rag to pick up loose dirt and oils.
For Leatherique, you then apply the Leatherique Rejuvenator oil and let sit inside the very hot car all day if possible. The longer you let it sit in hot temperatures, the better.
Finally, you clean the seats with Leatherique Pristine Clean to remove the leftover Rejuvenator oils. You may have to do two cleaning passes. I personally wipe each seat down with a wet rag after doing the cleaning sessions just to make sure that sticky stuff is off.
With other products I would imagine the process to be similar, only the application of heat may or may not be a requirement for that product. Also, if it's a cream, I'm not sure if they want you to let it sit or not. Either way, after the leather has been "conditioned", it will require a cleaning to make sure there isn't any leftover product on the seats before you go to use them. Personally I would clean the seats more thoroughly first before applying any conditioner.

Hardly a value... you're not doing an S54 swap for 2 grand. Or 3 grand. Or 4 grand. Not even 5 grand. All-in, you're probably looking closer to 10 grand for all the parts you need, all the "while you're in there" stuff (because let's face it, go HAM or go home), and maybe some labor.
If you do it yourself, you're still not doing it for anywhere close to 2 grand.

I was kidding. I think a "done it right" s54 swap can be had for under 10k all day long.
Very helpful to know- I'd been beginning to think about this. Plus you'd presumably have to beef up some drivetrain and suspension components.

In comparison with FI, the only decent kit left in the market is the ESS TS2 at $6850.00 and another $1k for headers and exhaust to make it breath right and you're on the closer side of $10k

Placed an order for Leatherique Rejuvenator Oil and Pristine Clean 16 oz bottles. $45. Free shipping.

What do you guys think it's even worth? Is this the correct place to ask or should I make a thread with all of my details

Didn't you just get a lot work done on it?
Yes a separate thread would be ideal...

Hmm...you have a pretty solid garage IMO. M3 and the Land Cruiser. That'd be good for me as it's basically a "bigger" version of mine now.
That said, the ZHP is a nice middleground between the two. Miles/usage/maintenance wise.

i think the ESS TS1 and AA stage 1 kits are good value, both around $5400... the AA one is 365hp though, ESS TS1 is 330hp - seems like an appropriate number for our cars. :)
to me, a SC is a way better option that an S54 swap - exponentially less work, easily reversible, cheaper, same or more power. win/win/win in my book. i personally have been thinking about both kits i mentioned, i like the packaging of the ESS kit better.
