Totally agree John. Nice to have these on hand just in case I need to replace my fog ballasts. Right now my ballasts work fine on the ZHP. Got these because the passenger's side fog light stopped working after our last major rain storm so I ordered these thinking that my passenger's side ballast was blown... not the case. I cleaned out the connectors and everything worked perfectly so I now have "spares" to add to my shelf of BMW spare parts in my closet... ;)

The only reason I even noticed it was because it started dragging today and I didn't have a clue 'till I looked. Haven't the faintest idea how this happened...
It started to smell from all the plastic rubbing, so I knew I had to cut it out ASAP.

when i was 26 and living in VT, i had a civic racecar and a 3-year old audi A6 2.7TT 6-speed. full coverage on both, and i paid $125/month. i then rubbed up against a pole in my parking garage, causing $1200 of damage to the audi. filed a claim, had it repaired, paid my deductable ($250). insurance (with progressive) never went up.

See I pay $130 a month with a perfectly clean record, full insurance, AND a clean owned title. That's a single car. I don't know how you guys don't get shafted on insurance, but the second a claim goes on record here where I live, rates skyrocket. It has happened to two different people I know (one was vandalism and the other a hit and run on their car)...
This area isn't exactly what I would call "friendly" for insurance.

Yeah in Canada, any comprehensive claim is just that. It doesn't count towards your premium when you can't control acts of other people.
Our family history has had many people at fault hitting us and that party's insurance is responsible for paying for all damages. That's why their insurance goes up.
We can even claim if trucks dump a load onto the highway at highspeed, sandblasting the whole front end and chipping the window. We just pay a comprehensive, whatever your amount is and everything is repainted/restored/replaced to original condition. Insurance premium is not affected.

When shopping for insurance here, the companies care about whether anything has happened at all. So, let's hypothetically say I've had 3 accidents and none of them were my fault. Even though it was handled through the other person's insurance, whatever companies I'm getting quotes from for insurance are going to see that and base rates on that. So, even though it wouldn't be my fault in any of those instances, I'd still get slightly higher rates than if there was absolutely nothing on my record at fault or not. Insurance is literally financial rape with almost nothing to gain from having it other than "complying with the law". Another stupid thing is when another drive on your policy gets into an accident, because that incident, even if it isn't your car or even you driving, will still raise your rates for your own car just because it's on the same policy.
I feel it should be illegal for insurance companies to raise rates for 1) accidents that aren't your fault, and 2) accidents that occur to someone else's car with someone else driving, even though it's on your policy.

weird. that's how it is in ontario, in VT it was the opposite for me. i was with progressive for 10 years, they were excellent.

weird. totally not my experience in the US (VT). rates were cheap, service was awesome, no penalties from speeding tickets (i had one on my record at that time), or claims (3 no-fault claims, all over $500).
also, in the US, or at least, VT - stuff stays on your record for 3 years. in ontario, even if it's off your driving record, the insurance company keeps 10 YEARS of history and your rates are based off of that. you wanna talk about financial rape? buy car insurance here... i paid astronomical rates here for 6 years for a claim i had IN THE US in 2005!!!

Not ZHP. But still BMW.
I was out this afternoon helping with traffic control. Just in case this 7 Series would continue to slide and land on Dehesa Rd. Testifies the safety and strength of a BMW. Driver just walked out of the vehicle and slid down the hill. Called his GF to come pick him up. The other was a Toyota small SUV. Squashed pancake. Toyota was trying overtake downhill the BMW on a twisting two lane. Toyota lost control and ran into 7 Series. Toyota follows down the cliff. Toyota driver condition was lucky to be alive.

Made an offer on a '13 e92 M3 yesterday, we've been back & forth negotiating today but it ultimately resulted in no joy. A very nice space gray/black, 6MT, CF roof, cloth seats, competition pkg, 11.4K mile example but our separation on price is too big, we mutually agreed to disagree. He's a good guy, I've bought 3 BMWs from him previously, left my offer out there for him to continue to ponder, his new car arrives this next week. Do we need a M3, absolutely not, do I want one, yep.

Damn that's pretty nuts. I can't tell, but what model toyota?

Made an offer on a '13 e92 M3 yesterday, we've been back & forth negotiating today but it ultimately resulted in no joy. A very nice space gray/black, 6MT, CF roof, cloth seats, competition pkg, 11.4K mile example but our separation on price is too big, we mutually agreed to disagree. He's a good guy, I've bought 3 BMWs from him previously, left my offer out there for him to continue to ponder, his new car arrives this next week. Do we need a M3, absolutely not, do I want one, yep.
Interesting how that works.

No, that was an '08 AW/fox red DCT M3. Low miles (under 50K) too, I wouldn't mind having that one but he's not ready to sell it yet.

He had previously told me what his lease deal was on that car - I essentially offered the buyout.

Nice. I've noticed a lot of the E9x M3s are really overpriced right now. People trying to get out for the newer gen but marketing the old ones like - Super Rare, last NA M3 ever, and tacking on $5,6,7k to its true value.

Yea I agree Seth. I have been watching the market weekly for over a year...my next car will be e90 m3. And the prices have fluctuated so much the past 6 months its crazy. They're all over the board. And believe it or not most of the over priced ones are private sales from individuals who think it's like you say the last of its kind etc. while I do believe that BMW likely will never go back to a NA m3 ...you can't just tack on money or expect almost full msrp on a car that's likely already 4 years old (sedan) at least! I hope to be able too purchase a sub 40k mile car with zcp and 6mt for upper 30/low 40s when it's time.

Did a full interior cleaning (short of taking the seats out) with my trust Swiffer and Craftsman vacuum. Then I busted out the Leatherique for one more application before the winter hits. I'm going to let it sit for two days this time, since tomorrow will be 70 but cloudy/rainy, and Wednesday should provide a bit more heat with the windows up.

So this is weird. I come home last night and notice a huge puddle of oil in my parking spot. I look under the car and its dripping from the tray. I take it to the shop this morning and they call me and say after smoke testing the car its coming from the dipstick tube seal with the engine block. I say go ahead and fix it then. Im going on a trip tomorrow (always how it works, right?) and I dont have time to worry about it.
I just got a call back and he is chuckling saying there was NO o-ring on the dipstick tube. I felt a pang of embarrassment, as a few months ago I am the one who put the o-ring on my dipstick tube and (with A LOT of trouble) got it back in the engine block. I felt the telltale pop and slide in even. He had no explanation other than maybe it got split during installation and squeezed itself out. He does not think its in the pan. I guess I can buy that. Well these things happen, I guess.

Its in the pan. I have one in there too, lol
I did the same thing, felt it "pop" into place. But nope, it "popped" down into the pan is what happened. I puked oil all over the place down the underside of the car as a result. I too thought I should put the oring in the hole in the engine block first, and then put the tube in but that is backwards. You have to put the oring on the tube and then install the tube into the block.

I also do have the Homelink. But sometimes...most of the time, garage door will not open. It's as if the garage door when close is blocking the signals to open. I have to continue pressing to finally open. But when garage door is open, Homelink works perfectly. Maybe I might have to do the extended range install to the Homelink.

Upgraded the useless Mk3 nav computer in my M5 to the semi-useful Mk4 unit. Takes about 30 seconds. The Mk3 system is CD based and needs about a thousand discs to cover the country. Mk4 is what's in the ZHP when so-equipped. Crude by modern standards, but at least not worthless in Mk4 form.
One positive side effect: the lawyer screen appears for a few seconds, then goes away on its own if not manually dismissed. That alone is a nice "upgrade".

Starting Saturday, I replaced the front brakes on my Odyssey (just pads), front and rear pads and rotors on my e61 (fronts Sat., rears Sunday)...when doing the rears I discovered that my (yes I knew they needed replacement) tires had actually worn to the threads. So new tires went on Tuesday. In the midst of the brake work, I gave my ZHP a much needed bath, changed the oil, and spent some time cleaning around the very rear-most corner of the valve cover where a very minor oil dribble had pooled enough to start dripping on the first cat making the car smell like burning oil.
I also let my neighbor get a taste of ZHP goodness....he just recently bought a e90 335 coupe....I'd been telling him to look for a ZHP but somehow the twin scrolls spoke to him (Im guessing because he never actually found a ZHP to drive, even though I'd offered to let him drive mine). In any case, I have a feeling I might have given him some buyers regrets on his 335 after feeling the smooth and endless power delivery of the ZHP. Plus he had to get an auto since his wife can't drive a manual....and I think feeling how smooth the ZHP shifted made him wish for a manual too....oh well!:cool
The photos are of the e61...was pretty pleased with how relatively clean everything was in the undercarriage....but but before doing any removal I still sprayed everything down with simple green and scrubbed what I could.

Fresh Leatherique treatment on all seats and headrests, door cards, shift knob and boot, handbrake boot, and my old steering wheel (not pictured). Once I wiped off all the Leatherique last night, I installed my brand new M3 tri-stitch steering wheel. This is by far the most satisfying thing I've done to my car for a while.

Installed new Optima Yellow Top in the ZHP. Removed the OEM battery (I believe it was the stock, original BMW battery), OEM battery tray, and installed the Optima using a Blue Torch Fab battery mount. BTF makes stuff for off-road vehicles, and the battery mount fit almost perfectly in the stock vert battery location. I am not 100% happy with how it is secured, but it isn't going anywhere so it will work for now.
I will touch up the white paint that got dinged up during the install (mount comes in bare form, I sprayed it with rattle can primer and paint). Plan is to take the top part of the mount and add some BMW blue squares to mimic the Bavarian flag, but I ran out of time to finish painting.

I have not had any issues with buttons breaking on either of the e61's I've had....nor have I had some of the nagging things e60s are known for YET! I did, however, do some preventive maintenance as soon as I got my current one. I got it about a year and a half ago from Albuquerque with 30K on the clock. When I got it, I went ahead and replaced the x-drive fluid, the differential fluids, the trans-oil and oil pan and sleeve. Since then I've pretty much just changed the oil every 5K using Liqui-moly longlife oil. Hopefully, this one will last me 200Kmi. The reason it is my second is because I had an equally awesome one back in 2010. I kept it two years and then had a panic attack thinking I'd be dealing with maintenance nightmares so I sold it. Within 6months of that, I realized my mistake and I spent the following year and a half searching for another one (w/sports, winter, and premium packages as well as the auburn interior).
Hope to keep this one and the zhp for a long time!!!

The Optima is smaller lengthwise that the stock BMW battery, but not sure about any weight savings. It is pretty heavy. I like the Optimas because they are sealed AGM batteries, so not worries about venting or spilling acid. I have been running Optimas in my Jeeps for as long as I can remember. I have had one go bad after 1 year of usage, but it was replaced with another under warranty and has been good to go ever since.

I think the magnaflow is at least a cat back setup, not axle back. At that price I don't see it worth changing from stock. That's a pitiful looking muffler. I mean the guy could have at least tried t clean it up before selling.

Finally did a hand wash. Last wash was somewhere around early September... maybe. lol
Went an extra step and rubbed off all the dried whitish crap from the compound I've used on my car a few times already. I never wiped my trim after detailing since I rarely had the time to do so, but tonight I went to town. The trim looks far better than it did before. Also cleaned all glass, which I also rarely do. All steps that make the difference... too bad a car wash is over an hour and a half of work to do it this way!

Honestly it doesn't fit to bad. It is definitely a tighter fit than with the OE rubber boots but that is to be expected with the thicker stiffer silicone.
I removed the DISA, then dry fit everything to get the orientation and angles just right before I clamped it all on. I wasn't a huge fan of the look of the aluminum F-connector that was included so I went with a new plastic F-connector for $1.29 to keep more of an OEM look.

Installed the Pedalbox from ElCID86 for a trial run this week. Definitely fits my driving style as I do have a "weak foot" and barely press the pedal sometimes...this fixes that and really makes her seem more peppy even though nothing changes about the car getting up into the meat of the revs faster really makes a difference especially with the 3.46 and the LSD. I could see myself going through the tires in the rear even quicker with this, not to mention the clutch until I get used to it. Very easy for the revs to fly up if you aren't paying attention. Rev matching becomes VERY easy with this installed as well.

are y'all using the stock CCV? i think it has a lot to do with that and how that affects the piston rings sealing correctly (especially when it's all clogged up). i used to use about a liter every 2000 miles, now i don't really use any at all over a 4000 mile change interval after my catch can/PCV implementation. car runs so much better, too.

I didn't know they fit behind the style 68s, that's cool!
I have spacers on, but I'm fairly certain I did a test once to see if they'd fit without the spacers. I remember them fitting, but just barely...
