Filled the spare donut to 60 psi. I doubt it had been touched since the car was delivered to the original owners since it had about 18 psi in it.
Oddly, while I was filling it at the gas station near my house a young kid, probably 16, pulled up in a brand new Audi S4. He got out and tried to start pumping his own gas. In Oregon you can't do that (an attendant has to pump it) and the gas attendant started telling him he'd have to wait until he was free. I couldn't figure out if this kid is so young that he's never been to a gas station on his own yet, or if he lives in Washington and this is the first time he's filled up at an Oregon gas station, but the car had Oregon license plates so I'm not sure what the deal was. Either way, pretty nice car for a teenager.

This is one of the stupidest things ever, and is the sole reason why I refuse to get gas in New Jersey (they have the same moronic law) despite it being a dollar a good 60-80c a gallon cheaper...

I agree, it's pretty antiquated. The argument goes (among other things) that it creates jobs but I think that's a tenuous argument.

The funny thing is, the only folks I ever see pump gas are older folks. I don't see how they can make a living, even with 2 jobs, pumping gas.
It shouldn't be law to have someone pump your gas for you. I don't see why you should be required to let someone else handle your property. Most of the time they drip gas all over the side of the car because they don't get paid enough to give a flying f***. :facepalm

I hate it when they don't put the gas cap in the holder and just let it dangle.

This.
Whenever Charlie and I go on a roadtrip and have to get gas in Jersey, he will actually get out of the car and supervise him putting gas in the car. I would do this if I was ever forced to get gas in Jersey going forward.
This is more of a gear grind subject anyway.

From my personal experience getting gas on the Jersey Turnpike, most of the people putting gas into your car don't care whether or not they spill gas on your car or that they allow the gas cap to dangle against the side of your car. It shows their "don't give a s*** attitude". This is why BP mentioned that whenever I'm in Jersey I supervise those people when gassing up. I watch them like a hawk and make sure they don't drop my gas cap or spill gas on the side of the car. Sometimes they manage to get a drop or two on the side which I immediately wipe off using detail spray....then I will give them a nasty look.
... but as Botond mentioned this is more or less a grinds your gears type of thing...

Noted, never get fuel in either of those states. WoW, I had no idea.
EDIT:
I had a dream about driving my ZHP a few nights ago ='-(
I love the i3 but I find the community of owners to be a bit annoying. There are a few cool guys and gals but a lot of newbs that make you wonder if they have ever owned a car before and a few are just go bonkers anytime you even mention modifying the car. I had one guy go NUTS about me smoke vinyl shrink wrapping my wheel arch reflectors. Seriously. He was going on and on about how unsafe the car is now and that if I am ever in a wreck that my insurance company won't pay for the damages and how would I feel if someone got seriously hurt, etc, etc. Then a few hours later someone from another country that doesn't require the ridiculous wheel arch reflectors posted a pic of their car, without them, lol.
Needless to say I miss you guys. Then another guy that seems to think that lowering the i3 will completely ruin the car, yet the i3's in Japan are lower than every other country's i3's, he seems oddly overly concerned about turning radius, I guess he does a lot of U-Turns? Its pretty nuts. It is difficult for me to just ignore idocracy but I'm working on it.

I agree that everything else mentioned is a bunch of stupid crap that isn't a big deal. I do have to slightly agree with the lowering comment, though I can totally understand why some want to lower their cars. I do believe it ruins the car a bit... I'm getting really tired of the stiff ride in my car, but it's something I have to put up with since I track my car and need to have less body roll. It is what it is... if someone's willing to live with the added stiffness then more power to 'em! I say go for it; if it's on your mind, then you definitely don't mind the ride quality, and have to say that nothing beats a lowered car in terms of looks. :thumbsup

You should see the mess of a thread about possibly installing an additional 3gal fuel cell in the Frunk. I didn't even get into that mess of a discussion but there was a lot of talk about fiery deaths, lmao. Like fuel cells are not designed for impacts.
If I am being perfectly honest, lowering my ZHP is part of what started the downfall in our relationship, followed shortly by the 19" VMR V710's, the combination of the drop with the wheels MADE the car as far as looks went, but in Memphis, OMG, it rhode horribly. My better half started to refuse to ride in the car and anytime I took one of the dogs somewhere in it they would end up getting sick. Luckily in their dog bed, but still.
The i3, however, sits up high from the factory and while I don't doubt ride will be somewhat compromised by a drop, I also don't plan to drop it to the ground, a kit like that doesn't even exist yet. The most aggressive kit out there right now is an H&R Kit, 1.2" in the front and 0.8" in the rear. I think that would be about perfect.

The car already rides kind of rough with the 20's, I don't think a mild drop will hurt it that much. Better half loves driving the i3, I'm going to start running the numbers on getting rid of the CRV and getting another i3 after we get back from vacation.

In SF we have an audi rental program run by audi usa that rents anything from and s4/5 to r8, so I dunno. There's so many ways to rent expensive cars now.
When I was in high school, I had a kinda-friend who busted ass working at jack in the box and bought an e46 330 CPO only 3 years old. It's possible.
Why do we care anyway? My wife went to a high school where kids got 911s for their 16th bday (she was definitely not one :( )

Yea I've read some about that. Their current turbo v8 burns something stupid like 1 quart every 1000 miles, new from factory. And the batteries can't handle their weird coast-charge deal because "Americans don't coast the same way European drivers do." Lots of crazy crap. I think I mentioned it in a thread I stared here about the reduction in reliability of modern cars to meet CAFE fuel requirements.

Quick question: When replacing the expansion tank and sensor, do you remove the rubber surrounding the sensor material? The new one has it. The old one did not and it appears to be very hard to come off.
My thought is no.

Does it matter, since you're replacing both the expansion tank and the sensor? What I recall from when I replaced those parts as a part of my cooling system overhaul, the rubber o-ring came out with the old sensor.

Oh! I was misreading what you meant. Mine didn't come with a rubber piece like that. I got the part from TMS and it had a blue plastic bit that looked very different from the old one, but I stuck the new sensor in there with the blue "cap" because it didn't look like it was meant to come off. I haven't had any issues, although I've made sure the coolant level is always topped off.

Be sure after you roll to reseal the fenders! While that roller is smooth rubber, it still applies enough pressure to the paint to micro fracture it even when you use a heat gun. After 4 years of mild Vancouver winters both fenders began to show signs of rust underneath.

Drive it a bit, more regular than normal, know you don't do that much with that low mileage. Give the electrical system time to reset itself.

Love me some AW :drool
My weekend update involved a bunch of work:
Oil Change
Cleaned thermostat mating area / Re-sealed the thermostat
Replaced the expansion tank
Replaced battery under warranty; no more voltage issues!!
Lots of work but I am quite happy that both the coolant leak and the voltage issues are completely resolved. A bit bummed the memory seat control wasn't the issue. Oh well.

Hey guys, believe it or not, I get to post in this thread! So I'm not actually home yet (sitting in Newark airport at the moment), but I had a set of two rear tires delivered for the M3. The car has been sitting in my driveway for about 2 weeks with a flat rear. I guess my wife ran over a piece of tile or something from the neighbors construction project at their house, and she's just too busy to get it taken care of. So, tomorrow morning I will pull off the rears and bring them to get the new set of Michelin PSS installed.

Peter, this mount really does not get in the way of the passenger. There's still a lot of room for them to be seated. :thumbsup I like this mount because it is off the windshield and set up more so it's aligned with your navi display. I like how it's angled towards the driver. :)

It definitely doesn't get in the way. Every passenger I've ever had moved the seat way back because of the curvature of the dash; it keeps getting in the way of the left knee, so everyone just moves the seat back.

thanks guys! mostly it's just my wife sitting there; she's only 5'4" and isn't bothered by the dash curve (i am, though, when i sit there). i was just concerned that she (or another passenger) would feel that their space was encroached upon by this mount. hmmm. i may pick on up - i need a solution for this. :)

Geez, sorry to hear... I had mine done in like 20 minutes, they guy unloaded and reloaded them into my X5 for me, and then he didn't charge me a single penny for the work... And I've never even seen the guy!!! Its the shop I go to all the time, but still, all new people... I was shocked...

Well, more updates from me, as I'm home now... I only ordered a few small cosmetic items for the pair while I was gone this time, but still, install time!! And of course, with the fun stuff, comes some crappy stuff... Read on...
For the X5... I ordered the color matched reflectors to replace the Euro clear ones... Installed those today, very happy... Also, I rebadged the X5 with the color matched Silverstone Metallic badges I bought from iND. Very happy with the badges, and super impressed I was able to get them on without messing up. OEM location and pretty damn close to perfect if I may say so! :biggrin Pics of X5 stuff...

For the M3... Well, I was all happy having two brand new Michelin PSS mounted on the back the other day, and I was super thrilled that the guy didn't charge me anything to install them, so as a token of gratitude, I was going to order the front two from him and also get an alignment done (I like replacing tires all at once). Well, yesterday afternoon, the car dropped into limp mode, a million lights on the dash... I scanned the codes, U1411, something about missing Gateway information...?!?! Into the dealer it went right away and turns out the EDC computer needs to be replaced... Parts and coding, about $1200... So frustrating! And on that, no front tires, not yet anyway... But, as soon as its home from the shop (tomorrow afternoon), it too will get rebadged with the color matched badges... Can't wait... :)

Hah, thank you sir... The car is out of warranty by 5 months, still under on mileage though, just less than 42K miles. So yes, this sucks. I was planning on using this money for some tires too, but now I'll have to reevaluate.
To be honest though, I'm getting used to this. Our X5 got hit for a massive bill about 1 year out of warranty, and it was about 10K miles under on mileage. Still sucks though...

Always something Charlie, they never stay perfect for long.
Here is my list currently.
M3
Rear quarter window seal is torn
Rear trim (the thin body panel right between the trunk and bumper) has paint bubbling
Both front windshield and rear window seals are cracked and bubbled.
Front windshield is pitted to hell.
Trunk is swirled to high hell for some reason also and I just polished and cleaned the paint before the meet in June.
E91
4 rashed wheels
Front bumper has a 2mm dent/puncture in it and scuffed on bottom
Rear quarter panel has been swiped by a pole and dented.
Rear bumper has a bunch of punctures and scratches (I already have a new primed one sitting here to replace it)
Struts are at 50k and likely time to think about replacing. If love to drop it a tiny bit as well.
Need to by 1 new winter wheel eventually.
Got my work cutout for me this fall lol!

Kim and I were headed to the grocery store and I stopped at the high school and told her I wanted to make sure she remembered how to drive a stick as she hadn't driven one since we sold our 97 Accord. She got in adjusted the seat, put it in gear and off we went! Around the lot twice then out onto the main road and to the store. Never stalled or missed a gear. I knew I loved that lady!

Erin took over driving for me on our way from Richmond last weekend...all the way up 95 and through DC during rush hour. Offered to swap back as we got into DC, said no, I got this. Stalled a couple times due to people cutting her off in DC, but otherwise we survived and I think she is that much better having passed quite a few manual "stress tests." She has definitely mastered it this summer, very happy!

Initially the tire lost about 10psi a day and within 2 days or so it started to lose about 20psi.... I don't know if these 2 issues are related but during winter I used to lose about 5-10 psi a day from the same tire and when I got it checked then, the shop couldn't find anything wrong... When the ambient temperatures started to rise, the issue went away and tire didn't lose any pressure at all... But all of a sudden last week, I got the tpms warning and it started to lose pressure everyday...

Installed an OEM BMW hardtop hoist in my barn ceiling. I got it with the hardtop from a gent whose M3 had been totaled by the insurance company. Totaled in rag top state without having the hardtop installed. Also got the back seat folding windscreen and carry case, too, from this gent. The top has been re-painted silver gray and, when the weather turns cold, we will be ready for quiet, comfortable winter time driving.

Pulled the front brakes apart- P/S front had been squealing like it was dragging due to unlubed caliper slides. Found that the outer pad had a good amount of meat on it, but the inner had a chunk missing. Pulled the D/S apart to find the same thing. Bought the cheap pads at Autozone as a temp fix since I'm going on vacation tomorrow with the car, and just ordered some Stoptech rotors, a new wear sensor, and Hawk pads from Tirerack.

Today I received the replacement black cube dash piece I bought from Rando, so I installed my original black cube trim back into the car. I've been meaning to do this since I got the NB interior...
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/08/18/d9bf408056828feaa17918a744b69f02.jpg
Every single time I touch the trim, something breaks. I spent over half an hour trying to get the silver passenger dash piece off, only to have a piece break off the radio trim, then finding that my black cube radio trim piece has that same piece broken. Damn it, man... I just don't get a break. :(

Yep. Badly faded and the plastic grid is broken in a couple of places. No missing grid; just borked. I bought plastic paint for about eight bucks to refurb it and I was going to glue the broken parts. But then the more I started thinking about the time to remove, refurb, and reinstall, and how the end product would look, the more I thought it was penny-wise and pound-foolish not to just replace it.

That's a low price. All the quotes I've ever seen for all windows minus the windshield have been 200-300, so what we're paying is pretty average.

bit i couldn't imagine doing a windshield. i don't think the place I've gone to for all my cars would do a windshield (full).
Doing anything less than 50% on a windshield is stupid, IMO. Hell, I think 50 is even pushing it.
Mine is 80% all around. Looks absolutely perfect through the windshield.

nice, BP. i replaced mine when i replaced my windshield as well. the old one wasn't that bad, but the rubber lip that meets the windshield was getting dry and cracked.

Word of advice.
When you sand off the hazing you are actually removing a protective layer as well.
So even though they are clear, they won't stay that way forever.
So if you want to avoid them becoming yellow and hazy, you need to either put vinyl on them or coat them with a product like opti coat pro.
Otherwise it's a temporary fix.

New tires installed on the Mini today. I was able to get a local shop to price match Pirelli P Zero run flats. $750 all four installed FTW!

Yea 205/ 45R17. I wasn't even in the market yet and was just looking at my options but I wasn't passing this up. They were $135 each instead of $189!

You don't need both though.
I been using opti coat pro and recommend it. Just get the one for plastic

Gave the ZHP a much needed bath. I still need to do more serious detailing but it won't be for a little while. The haze today is crazy from all the forest fires, the county line fire and the Cougar Creek left ash on the driveway.
Cool interactive map (look at Washington State!)

The Opti Coat puts a protective UV coat in the refunished surface of the lens and the Laminex film further protects the surface of the lens from pitting over time. That's why I'm doing this Vas. As expensive as these lens get over time, doing this will save money as I won't need a replacement lens compared to those who don't put a protective film over their lens.

Probably that stupid blasted door seal that some coupes seem to have a problem with. Those buggers are friggin' EXPENSIVE!
Rovert

With coupes, the inside window trim is held on by glue that dries up and becomes brittle resulting in the inside window/door trim slowly hanging off and falling off. The existing glue that is still hanging onto the trim is stretchy and flexible, but the failed sections are hard and crispy. BMW wants $$$$$$ for each side to replace which will probably happen again.

It's legal to have a clean car. But it's illegal in Vancouver to wash your car on a private residence as well as water grass with fresh city water.
My Parents have setup a system to collect most cleanish "grey water" in giant garbage bins outside during Vancouver's stage 3 water restrictions. So I managed the legal cleaning of his car in the driveway using only grey water aka used water...LOL.

All clean and the water bin was just topped off to the brim again, for grass watering tomorrow evening.
It's amazing how much water we send down the drain in a first world economy when you instead, collect some of it!!

We've only had this level of water restriction once in 2003. I predict this to be a much more common occupancy and hope that the Vancouver area can find other clean ways to add to higher water levels.
