Seth, it feels like I have a new car! Man my ///M is faster with these wheels... Yeah, I know it comes down to how much each wheel weighs - got it ;) I didn't think I would come back to this style of wheels but I kinda like them....especially running with the 18x9's :thumbsup

Cleaned the motor some, went with the scrubbing bubbles method. Worked alright on some of the plastic, but it could definitely be a lot cleaner. Also flushed some of the P/S fluid- looked really good, but did it anyway using the turkey baster method. Cycled almost a full quart through.

Mine was really clean too. Fluid looked brand new, but as far as I can tell from my records, it was never touched. I want to say my system took just about 1 liter.

Looked at a wide range of vehicles online, ZHP's, M3's, x1, x3, x5 few other models from other brands and still came back to wanting an i3. I changed oil in on my ZHP for the new owner before selling it yesterday and call me lazy, but I don't want to do that anymore.

Well, wife came back home after running some errands. Not a single word about driving the ZHP for the first time. I didn't ask about it, because I could be forcing an "oh, it was nice" out of her. I will wait patiently, maybe her comments will arrive later.
We were on the Mini, going to dinner. Then she said "oh, the red car drives and sounds nice." There you go ! :applause2

-Are all M3 seats heated?
-How to tell if seats are heated if seats are out?
Thanks folks.
Pip, off topic ... What places did u visit in Austin ?
Salt Lick @ the airport when I arrived
County Line BBQ restaurant for the rehearsal dinner (thought it was really good and great location on the water)
Dirty Sixth - lots of bars but can't remember because was drinking fairly heavily.
Rudy's BBQ - was pretty awesome
Barton Springs swimming place
Nature reserve near Barton Springs (wounded and sheltered animals etc) - this place was cool
We also did a Segway tour and hit all the main spots like the capital, parks, and another spot but can't remember.
We walked to UT and explored the campus which was a good little walk from 4th and Trinity.
Went to Torchy's tacos before heading to the airport.

Not all are heated. Manual seats are probably not heated most of the time.
Not a really good way to tell if seats are heated unless you cut the seats open as far as I know. Please let someone else chime in because I'm not sure about this one.
Edit: I bet there is an additional wire that someone would need to track down in order to verify which one provided the heat signal.

Why is buying a new car so difficult? I just want everything for nothing, why is that so hard to accommodate? I might have to go with my second color choice on the i3, white. I contacted the dealer with twin Grey i3's loaded up like I want, and it just wasn't a pleasant experience from the start, someone that sounded very young and not very knowledgeable answered the sales option, took my info and said someone would get back to me in an hour. 3 hours later an older gentleman called and told me there was no way they could ship me a car that I had to go to Atlanta to take possession of the car. He said I could fly in, take possession, load it on a transport and fly out if I wanted, but that the transaction had to be done in person. 30 minutes later a lady calls and asks financing questions. 30 minutes later the older gentleman calls back MAD, apparently the lady that I thought was perhaps a finance lady (she only asked finance questions) was another salesperson and they got into it about who was working with me. Why was that even my problem? He was seriously upset, asking what time he called me vs she called me, I was like, really? So he finally gives me my numbers, he tries to gouge me on the MF, doesn't give me all of the trunk money on the car and asks for a deposit. In the meantime I'm talking to a guy from the ATL i3 FB group about it all and he starts explaining to me how I should, if possible, take this opportunity to move some funds from traditional IRA to roth IRA to bring up my tax liability, do the owners choice instead of lease and take advantage of the $7500 federal credit as opposed to just $4875. Great! So I shoot this older gentleman an email asking him to re-run the numbers on OC, he calls me and says OC isn't available in Tennessee, then e-mails me saying it is only available in 3 states. He is WRONG, BMW's website shows all states except about 5, not including TN. At this point I made contact with a really good dealer in Atlanta that has one of these cars like I want, but in White, not Gray. They are slammed, so he said he would call me back. I thought about not even responding to the first dealer, but I was kinda pissed so I replied to his email with a link to BMW's website showing him that he is wrong. He replies, apologizes, and says he is off tomorrow and will re-run the numbers for me on Wednesday. Meanwhile the other dealer calls me, wow, this guy knows what he is doing and is AMAZING. He says they have nearly 100 i3's in stock and thinks perhaps he has one in Gray that either isn't listed online or might be put in with the wrong interior color. He is going to check tomorrow, then check the network of his dealers to see if they have one and at last resort see about dealer trading from the first dealer I delt with today. As for shipping the car, he said he does it all the time, absolutely no problem and he will get me a quote so I can decide if I want to ship it or take possession in Atlanta. Lastly, I responded to my local dealer who I left hanging for nearly a week letting him know that ATL was beating them by $4500 (on a grey car they don't have, 1st dealer) and $5875 (on the white one, second dealer). His last email said they could dealer trade for the Gray car and they would gladly sell it to me for full MSRP, plus shipping, before the tax incentive. How generous of them, lol.
My brain hurts, bed time.

Not, not all M3 seats are heated, period. Some are, some aren't. I don't think there's any way to tell unless you rip 'em apart.
Leather does not necessarily mean heated.
They fit the sedan, but you'll have that awkward side forward tilt handle. If you can live with that, then it's a worthy upgrade for sure.

In the sedan, it is awesome!
I have the M3 seats in my sedan and find the ability to flip the seat forward makes reaching behind the seat VERY easy.
If you have kids, the ability to move the seat forward with the handles comes in handy. Given the choice between M3 seats WITH (all of them) or WITHOUT (if they existed), I would always choose the seats with the handles for my sedan.

Too bad they didn't have Natural Brown ones. I'd consider a set of they did! The other stuff doesn't bother me too much. The seats are awesome.

yep, they fit! simmsled and i are running them. i did a small write-up on the install - basically you'll need to fab up a very basic 'L' bracket for the outboard seat belt mounting point. easy easy easy.

best not to pull the trigger until you can confirm that they are indeed heated.
also, if you are going to the trouble of getting M3 seats - find a set that have the electrically-adjustable kidney bolsters. this was the main reason i was after a set. mine needed lumbar as well (back issues). seriously, they make every drive THAT much better - and no bracing myself against the door in hard corners. :) (thanks to the adjustable bolsters)

From a looks perspective, I think the E46 sport seats look better than the M3 ones do, but that's a personal preference. I'm also not a fan of Nappa; I prefer Montana leather.

It was really crazy, I'm not looking forward to his call tomorrow, he is off today.
I pulled the trigger on a 2015 that is still "on the boat" the color and options I wanted at a great price. Not as great as some people have been getting the 2014's for but only about $400 more than the crazy guy from yesterday's 2014. I was about 2 days late getting a white 2014 for up to an additional $2899 off. Oh well, over budget but I'll make it work.
Now I can focus on my GRE studies, taking it tomorrow!

yes, the adjustable bolsters work well for me. i'm 6'1", but 32" waist, so the stock kidney bolsters were just too wide for me...

It depends on the model you get but many of them allow you to lock certain videos so they aren't recorded over. So, if you wanted to save the shot of the highway caper you mentioned, you could simply press a button and select it so that it would not be written over. The model I ave I can also select how long I want each shot to be and when it does and doesn't record. It's a lot of fun.
I currently use the Cobra Drive HD 820. The local Radio Shack had a going out of business sale so I was able to purchase it dirt cheap. There are a lot of different models out there and Jalopnik and Popular Mechanics have a lot of reviews for price friendly dash cams. I'll post some videos taken by the dash cam later on.

Sorry it's been so long since I've been active here... I come with a heavy heart. I posted it up in the cars for sale section of classifieds.(though its not showing up just yet for some reason)

Thanks John, and rguti- the mirrors... I can't even imagine driving an e46 without them now. The thing that has me interested in selling, is it has rust poking its head out at the rear wheel wells.. it can be stopped and fixed, but I am also ready to play with another car... have a reallllly fun project in mind, but have to run some more numbers before deciding it its do-able.(in my budget)

+1 on rebuilding. We have folks here who have literally resurrected their cars. And I decided to fix my coilover height today. I like having functional wheel gap so the front went up by 1/4 of an inch. I wasn't having any immediate issues but I didn't want any to arise from the being tucked. The rears will go up a little bit as well over the weekend. Just to balance out the look.

Someone on the ATL i3 FB group said their car came off of the boat today. I'm hoping mine was on the same boat and that maybe I'll get it a day or two earlier than expected. I've tried using BMW's tracking system with the cars VIN but because I didn't actually order the car it always wants me to talk to someone. No thanks, I'll just try to be patient.

I was at the dealer having my airbag finally swapped today so I sauntered down to the parts department to pick up a couple of odds and ends. When I got there I noticed a stack of TSW wheel boxes so I commented that I was surprised they were installing TSW wheels. The parts guy pointed me to the parts manager and said those were stock wheels that had been swapped out. As it turns out, they were a take-off set of Style 197 wheels...exactly the wheels I've been wanting to put on my convertible. I had those same wheels on our 08 convertible and always liked them. As much as I love the look of the zhp wheels, mine are in sad, sad shape....the PO let his kid drive the car a lot so mine are rashed almost the entire circumference and one even has a minor flat spot on the inside. So.....I contacted the owner of the wheels, made him an offer and stuffed them into the convertible (yes...some how they all fit). Now I'll clean them up with some elbow grease and Sonax Plus and schedule the swap with my local tire shop. I'll be saving the Style 135s for future refurbishing....but for now, $200 for these 197s was a no-brainer!

Chad, if possible.... buy back the ZHP, fix it and keep the car. If there's nothing else wrong with your car then this would be the thing to do but I realize there may be other factors involved which may prevent you from keeping and repairing your ZHP. Let's hope there's not.... I would love to see you keep your car and sort everything out... :thumbsup Here's hoping!!!

Sorry for the slow response- busy with school as always, and now people interested in the car.
I got an ok check from the insurance company, and bought the car back... it was delivered today. its easily repairable to be driven around, but has some things i'd rather not deal with in the future that are unrelated to this accident... plus I'm dying for a project.
I'll be working an engineering internship this summer- first summer without classes in 4 years, so I'm looking forward to having time to focus on a project car.
So, im selling the zhp whole, or parting it... not sure just yet- if I can get enough whole, its easier and out of my way.
Then- I'm currently looking for a crashed M3, and a decent looking 325 wagon... I'm guessing you can see where I'm going with this...

Today I attempted to install my Wilwood calipers but failed miserably. The brackets were interfering with the dust shield and caliper bracket mounting ears. I thought it was a plug and play kit, so I started wondering what to do next. I ended up cutting parts of the dust shield and having a friend grind a bit off the mounting ear, but the caliper still would not mount properly. I gave up today and after much frustration and pain, put the stock setup back on and visited the jacuzzi courtesy of Charlie's apartment complex to ease my back pain.
I pinged the guy I bought the calipers from as well as Derek and both of them said the same thing. The mounting ear has excess metal from casting that is unnecessary, and should be grinded further to allow the holes to line up.
Tomorrow I'll make another attempt.

Finally got both front Wilwood calipers mounted. Ended up having to grind the top mounting ears that the caliper bracket attaches to so that its shape is round like the bottom ears. I already cut the dust shields the day before. Mounted the calipers up, bled them, and started on the rears.
The rears required me to cut along the entire perimeter of the dust shield where it is bent inwards to "cover" the rotor. I made it totally open so there is no longer a curved-in lip around the dust shield. I couldn't mount the rear calipers though because the right rear brake line nut is seized; I can't seem to loosen it despite a few rounds of PB Blaster. I need to have my buddy around in case I round the nut as he is capable of re-flaring the line if I screw it up.

Oh man, I've spent so much time getting this prepared I'll be really upset if this is the case. Thanks for the warning, hoping for a better outcome.
EDIT: Hey this had me curious because I was not able to get USB drives to be recognized in VB/VM/Windows 8.1, so I went ahead and switched the internet connection to bridged ethernet as I'm supposed to when I code and attempted to get online with an ethernet cable. I'm at work, our internet is stupid slow, it didn't work at first but then started working. So then I googled what adapter you use to code e46 and it looks like you use an OBD2 to USB. The i3 uses OBD2 to Ethernet. Maybe this is why you had trouble? Or did you try a car that used OBD2 to ethernet also? If this isn't going to work I would rather prepare now before the car comes. Slow work internet connection and no USB is why it took me awhile to get this set up, but I don't think I'll need USB now that I have it ready to go. I appreciate your insight and help.

Thats what I've been working on, getting everything up and running and ready to go. I just need the cable to come in (tomorrow) oh, and the car to come in, haha. My sales person posted on FB that as he left Saturday he checked on my car and said its latest update said that it was assigned to a truck. Hopefully it will arrive in ATL tomorrow and he can get it to me by the end of the week. In the meantime I showed some love to my better half's 2007 Honda CRV EX-L Nav both yesterday (bath) and today (interior detail). Busy BMW days down here in Jupiter... This weekend I washed both the X and the 3. Devlin drove down and we went out for some photos on Sunday.
Today I pulled the rear wheels off the X to confirm that I do NOT in fact have hub adapters, this is most likely the cause of the slight vibration on the highway...
So, I called Turner up as soon as they opened and ordered a full set of spacers, the rears are adapters as well. That'll be nice. :) After that headache was sorted, I spent some time and applied Rain-X to the windshield and back window, while also cleaning all other glass. Tomorrow the 3 will get the same treatment.
I also ordered some cosmetic items for both vehicles from iND today.

I spent the weekend getting my ///M cleaned from the previous week and this morning ended up driving it in the rain on my way to work. I will most likely find some time this week (Thursday) to clean my ///M again before getting some service done to it Friday morning. Got to make sure the engine compartment as well as the rest of the car is clean ;)

Heck I am also wanting to wash & wax my Island Girl. We have a drought and trying to conserve on water. You should see my water bill. No matter how we try to conserve, they still continue to jack up our bill.

To be honest, I don't mind washing knowing that its going to get dirty in a day or two. I wash the M3 myself, and we take the X5 to a local hand wash place where we have a membership. They do the big stuff and then I just detail. Also, been prepping them for when I leave to go to the ship. Summer is coming, need to get them both cleaned up and protected for the afternoon rains...
As for today, I did the Rain-X treatment to the M3, and also debadged the back end.

I noticed a small shudder to the right in the steering wheel when braking over the past week or so. I'm guessing the control arm bushings. On top of that, I found out earlier in the week that my perch rings on the rear springs are cracked sooo I'll need to contact Weitec and get a new set of rear spring perches. Yep... Definitely driving the truck for awhile. I blame the shoddy roads here.

Yeah I'm loving it so far! I got it from DCT Motorsports (http://www.dctms.com/). Cost was $350 + shipping + $200 core deposit which I will get back once I mail them my old core. As I mentioned over in my project thread, the package I received came from Taiwan, not from California where DCT Motorsports is located. The invoice wasn't from DCT Motorsports either; it was from a "John Leather Co., Ltd" in Taiwan for $100. The listed website is http://www.johnleather.com/default.php?language=en. So it is possible that DCT Motorsports is farming out the labor and materials to a Taiwanese company and pocketing the $250 difference. Doesn't make the wheel worth less to me, but one could try contacting this John Leather Co. directly.

The drive was long, but I had been up for nearly 40 hours. I ended up being extremely cheap and buying a $22.75 MegaBus ticket to ATL (from Memphis). I was hoping to sleep the whole way there but only got a couple of hours.
2015 i3 REx, all options (Terra World, Parking Assist, Technology Pack, Metallic Paint, Optional 20" wheels).

Yup, no fast chargers in Memphis, REx was the best choice for me. Filled up every 60-70 miles (2gal).

Love that feeling. I struggled with the upper radiator hose for a good half hour when I did the cooling system overhaul. Came back the next morning and took all of 2 minutes of muscling it on.
I finally got the PASoft Scanner to work (I've never coded a car before). Coded to turn off DRLs, enabled close windows with lock button, lowered service interval indicator, raised speed limit for the doors to auto lock, doors unlock with one click instead of selective, and one-touch close rear windows (I plan to mod the window controllers to make that possible). Feels good!

The $100 on the invoice was undoubtedly for customs purposes. I had a friend in Taiwan go visit Johns Leather to check into having a dozen or so done so I could sell them with the benefit of having them in hand. Wasn't enough profit to make it worthwhile.

Installed E46 M3 SMG steering wheel along with SMG mod. Thanks once again to orange260z (Ayan) for his help!
Actually, we worked on both cars. In addition to anandoc's SMG wheel (he must have a horseshoe up his butt to have gotten that deal), we also tried to troubleshoot my stereo problem, and reinstalled my OEM brake pads to replace the POS Posi-Quiet ceramics we installed last fall. The PQs have less than 1000kms on them, and will be posted in the classifieds in a few minutes.
I think our arrangement works out pretty well - I have a fully-equipped garage, 25 years of accumulating tools, and 25 years of experience; anandoc has the stamina that you lose with that same 25 years of experience, combined with the engineer's attention to all the details. Thannks buddy! :cheers
On a side note, anandoc often makes fun of me for buying tools whenever they go on sale, whether I need them at the time or not; however, he often forgets how we've needed some of those same tools in the middle of some project when our cars are half disassembled!

Also did a quick wash of X5 - it was filthy.
Jon - is the power steering noisy/whiny on your x5? Mine always has been and I always forget to ask about it at dealer
No, ours hasn't made any noise that I've noticed.

Are those pictures of the actual i3 hamster wheels? Very interesting, ecologically friendly way of range extension! :idea

Marcus
I love the theory of the i3. I really wish someone would come out with hybrid minivan (God, forgive me for wanting one). I am just not a fan of the looks of the i cars. So different (yet, for good reasons- I am amazed by the amount of space in the i3)
It really is big inside, especially up front. We don't have any kids, just two Chihuahua's so we won't really need the back-seats very much. I have read, however, and chatted with some other owners on FB, that parents of small children actually really like the door setup. They say its great for getting kids in an out of the car, especially those that ride in car-seats. I sure hope they bring out a proper i SAV in 2020, the hybrid x5 is a joke, 10 usable miles on electric? Really? As for the styling, I went with Laurel Grey because I thought it down-played the obnoxiousness of the two-tone (black + whatever color you choose) paint scheme. That all said, for some reason the car just grows on you, I kind of wish I had been bold enough to get the white but I do like this grey with the Terra interior. The more you drive it and look at it, you just start to like it more and more. Or maybe thats just me, haha.

Thanks! The more I drive it, the more I like it. I really beat on it yesterday on the Interstate and I never felt concerned which was a concern I had. The ZHP was a beast of a Interstate car, it would eat pavement at a massively rapid pace. The i3 has less horsepower but is a lot lighter too, surprisingly they have similar dynamics. I think I'm going to have to lower the i3 though, its a little tall. I'm blown away by the electric steering feel, what is everyone crying about?
-------
Taking care of some nerdy stuff today, got my SXM trial started, we ended up switching insurance companies just before buying the i3, setting up online account profile for that and for BMWFS. Pleasantly surprised that my mac remembered my login and password for BMWFS. I would be lost without this computer.

CDV was taken out of Colin's blue car very early on. Not sure why I have been dragging my feet on this one. But I figured why I had it up in the air...
Also just swapped the tinted glass from my old door into the new IR door and regulator.

I would say this simple mod has had the biggest impact on my everyday 'enjoy-ability' of the car. Ofcourse, my fuel economy has gone down the toilet...

It's possible. There is a chance you might need to bleed the clutch which is nearly impossible job. Because the nipple you have to get to his way up there very hard to access.

That's three cars I've done or had done that I don't think need a clutch bleed.

I started to hear a rattle when so I found that my rear HK speakers blew out. Well I bought nice aftermarket speaks from stores just to find that they wont fit the rear deck properly. So I went ahead and ordered the BSW stage1 kit. Hopefully this will work perfectly. So expensive but im hoping it will be worth it because the only other option that I had was the factory paper speakers and I dont want paper speakers.

Drove about 42 miles yesterday, 0 gallons of fuel used. WOOT! Car charged overnight on 110v and was at 100% this morning.
Will be repeating today, better half and I are dog/cat/fish/house sitting for the future mother in law, her house is about 20 miles from work. This is atypical for us, my usual commute is 2.2 miles one-way. We decided to car-pool because we work about 4 miles apart and the i3 can be driven and no fuel used.
Oh, and I found and bought some clear paint protectors that go behind the door handles. Only $2.00 for 4 of them. My ZHP wasn't really scratched that bad, but our honda CRV is, I'd rather not take the chances on the i3, plus it was only $2.00 if it looks like crap I'll just throw them away. Still hunting for a similar protector for the top of the rear bumper when the hatch is open. We've almost had damage done in just the 4 days we've owned it. BMW should have some kind of protector stock in that location.

Thats probably going to be the winner. I guess some tint shop in California has one designed specifically for the i3, I'm hoping they can just cut me one and ship it to me.

Check with Lamin-x. They sell bumper protection for a lot of cars. If they don't list it, I'd call and ask - they may want you to be the guinea pig!

Replaced the nav screen do to pixle burn-out. Followed the DIY's online and turns out it was really pretty straight forward.. Only really annoying factor is you have to hook up the new screen, but not completely, carry the loose mess over to the car and plug it back in to adjust and focus the screen. Then you have to take it apart again and do final assembly. Time consuming, but not a hard job.

Both cars got the airbag recall done today. I can't prove it but they went to far into a spot and messed up the bumper, pulled the lower engine cover loose and broke one of the fog lights. Didn't find it until late this afternoon. JB Welded the fog light bracket. Everything else I fixed.
