Thanks BP, I love her too :) and thanks to Dario for making her so purdy. Stay tuned for a build thread, I will be making her mine soon ;)

So um... The owner of the company I bought my ZHP from in October last year showed up at my work today and threatened to sue me if I don't take down the 2/5 rating I gave his business on Yelp. Wtf.
I argued with him for about 7 minutes that I wasn't malicious or lying and that he really was a sleaze ball before I gave up. Completely creeped out.
Checking with my local police about what I can do and at what level does he cross into illegal actions.
Checked yelp today. Somebody else posted 6 weeks ago that he contacted him about suing over a bad yelp review. Looks like this guy is a complete but job.

He has no legal action he can take upon you for your yelp review. It's a complete scare tactic. I've been threatened like that in the past. You can actually take legal action against him for threatening you, but it's not worth your time or effort. Don't let him bully you around buddy.

Oh I'm not worried about any legal action from him. He's got nothing. It's a joke. I'm just creeped out by the fact that he tracked down where I work (not like that's hard these days...) and confronted me. He has my personal info, like where I live.

Without proof of any sorts, it'll be difficult to take legal action against him. But once you have that, you can make him pay. He seems like a bag of douche. If you were in Texas and he set foot on your property, you are the law (to a certain point)! Those encounters are exciting for me, I never feel bad for throwing hands on a-holes that harass me to a point where they show up at my place of residence. Good luck with this idiot man.

If you can Stephen, add to your review how he harassed you on your review and give him a lower rating as a result.
Maybe even get a restraining order against him....

I do have CCTV video from him showing up at my work. It doesn't prove anything beyond him being there, but it's a good start should things escalate. I don't plan on any legal action at this point.

I'm debating if I should update the review or not. It'll only escalate things with him. Clearly he's mentally unstable in some way. Not sure I want to deal w/ that. I believe my current review was a strong warning for any prospective customers. His whole deal was "go read your review and change it, because you'll see how manipulative it is." Today I went and read it again and I wouldn't change anything I said on there; I said he's a sleazy sales guy and told future customers to do their homework on buying a car like I did.
I'll be talking to the local police tomorrow about what the next steps are. Restraining order was definitely already on my mind.

I test drove one back when I had my 325. Couldn't agree more. It was just as fast (or slow?) as my 325 and was bigger and sloppier.

Loaners most definitely aren't the cars to "check out". They're usually bare and only have the essential options for the region, such as iPod/aux and heated seats if in a cold climate in the winter.
I got lucky once and got a pretty fully loaded X1. It was Alpine White on Oyster, and had some extra packages including Premium Package, navigation, and some kind of X package. Getting a fully loaded one is a rarity around here though.

I truthfully think BMW has to some extent lost their way. They are not the driver cars they use to be. I want cars that drive and have less technology, not more.
Also, all of the additional models BMW is producing is stupid. The whole GT stuff is crap.

I meant..."check out" in the sense that I am staying positive in the face of adversity (leaving my baby in the hands of stealership)! I "checked out" the 4's awhile ago and would test drive the M235 for a more serious comparison.

Drove my cousins 2015 S6 over the weekend...was very fun. Felt similar to the 435i, even though they aren't really competitors. It was so (read: dangerously) quick and the modern features really are crazy, built in WiFi, heads up display, the list goes on...
A lot of them just distracted me from the driving, turned most of them off.

Maybe but hard to say. My bro has a '13 A4 and I hated driving it. Could not find the clutch engagement pedal, sloppy steering, and an overall underwhelming car. My 11yr old ZHP was far and wide better than his overpriced VW.

you have to acknowledge that audi does a dang good job with build quality and makes a very safe, comfortable vehicle. but for the most part, they are not "driver's cars" in the sense that, say, a ZHP is.
my dad has a B7 RS4 cab and that thing is a beast - probably the best car audi/quattro has ever made (not the cab, but the B7 RS4 in general).

Slater,
I should have also stated, when driving the A4, I compared it to my '05 E46 325i I used to own. My 325i I felt was still better than his A4. BMW's design and attention to detail is far better than Audi, even to this day. My ZHP is just a more fine tuned version.
Build quality, yes Audi has done a good job. Attention to detail however still lacks a lot IMO.

i agree. the ZHPs i own were a welcome change from many years of audi ownership (i've had 7). i do all of my own work, so i really notice and appreciate a lot of engineering details that just seem to make good sense.
AWD and turbocharging tend to complicate audi's, and make them more difficult to work on (they're still not that bad), but the ZHP is the easiest and nicest car to work on that i've ever owned.
and the rechargeable flashlight is awesome.

yes, the B7 RS4 is a very nice car.
refined? check.
seriously responsive V8 with awesome growl? check.
good brakes? check.
surprisingly little body roll? check.
good turn-in? check. (wait, this IS an AUDI we're talking about, right????)
nice seats? check.
room for 5? check.
good fuel economy? chec...ha! nope.
i have had some good seat time in my dad's RS4 cab, and it really is the Only Audi I Would Ever Own If I Was To Own Another Audi (OAIWEOIIWTOAA). in sedan form, naturally (if we got the Avant in north america then i would naturally prefer that).

Agree to disagree to some extent. Specially when it comes to the technology in our car.
I was specifically referring to having all those "fluff" models, like the X1, X4, 3/4/5GT, etc. These cars are necessary for BMW to make money because apparently that's why they built them, to make more money. If all they did was make cars to suit enthusiasts, then they'd be out of business.
Main consumers want technology, so even in that department, it's necessary. They have to compete with the competitors to survive. If they can't appeal to the masses with technology, then BMW would become irrelevant as nobody in that price range would buy them.
So, BMW... build whatever the heck you want, just keep making enthusiast cars as well.

Also, on Monday I got my FOB shell from eBay and I tried an idea I had in mind:
Have a key shop cut the blank FOB style key and transfer whatever components made the valet key work into the empty FOB shell.
When I purchased my ZHP it only came with the FOB key so I went to the dealer and tried to buy the service key but that key was no longer available so my options were another FOB for ~$250 or a valet for ~$45.
Since I just wanted a spare, I purchased the valet.
Once I got the valet key, I was concerned about it. The material seemed fragile, and when I lock/unlocked the car or turn the engine, I felt like it was going to break any minute.
I went on eBay, found a pair of blank FOB style shell for $9 and below is a collage of what I did.
I haven't use it as much as my FOB key, but so far it's been working without any issues; locks, unlocks and starts the engine.

Looks like I missed the Audi discussion... Well i already typed this out so hopefully I won't offend anyone by posting anyways :shift
I owned an Audi prior to my ZHP. With that car, driving was something that had to be done. In my ZHP, driving is it's own event. Sure, my Audi had a bombproof interior (17 yrs old, not a rattle, not a scratch, not even the slightest imperfection), but the steering was numb, weighted maybe.. But numb, the drivetrain didn't make sexy noises, over 60% of the cars weight was in front of the dash, and the exhaust didn't bang crackle or pop. It was a great car sure.. But not a special one. I have driven modern Audis as well and it's been the same experience across the board. I'd love to get behind the wheel of anything with an S badge, (hopefully that would be a different story), but as disappointing as it may be to see BMW aim their cars at the more average (non enthusiast) consumers, I don't quite feel that they have "lost their direction". Maybe they are doing more things differently and following the consumer market more, but the DNA we love still runs rampant within the company. A new era maybe, the end of 'bimmers' I doubt it :)

You have to ask for one. They will ask you to bring it back ASAP. Typically you can have it for a day and not get charged for it. If you need to keep it for a second day, they may charge you for using it for a 2nd day. The dealer I got a loaner from asked for $50 if I needed to keep it a second day. I just returned it right at opening the next day and the fee wasn't charged.

When I called to schedule the airbag replacement I "Requested a Loaner" and at drop off they set you up with one. As far as choice and restrictions, BMW of Sterling didn't seem to care...well at least the guy at the Loaner desk. He saw my ZHP and was like "Maaaaaaaaannnnnn...we have a couple 3 series hybrids....I can't give you those. It's not right. Take a 5. Not the best, but better than the others."
24 hours to return it after the work is completed before any fees. Refill the gas you used. And the rest is common sense, don't take it on a roadtrip, etc.

Hmm...I was unaware of the ActiveHybrids, I'll ask the guy if that's what he meant on return. Probably for the best, don't need any temptations with a loaner. And yeah, it's the 528i with the Luxury package. I don't mind it, I'm enjoying the creature comforts. I missed my ZHP the second I pulled off the lot though. ...as disappointing as it may be to see BMW aim their cars at the more average (non enthusiast) consumers, I don't quite feel that they have "lost their direction". Maybe they are doing more things differently and following the consumer market more, but the DNA we love still runs rampant within the company. A new era maybe, the end of 'bimmers' I doubt it :)
Honestly, this quote kind of bugs me a little. I think many of you have lost the right perspective. Yes, while the Mafia is built around folks that love the E46 for the driving dynamics, that doesn't make someone like my wife a "non enthusiast". She sees, points out, and enjoys all sorts of BMW models as much as anyone here. Does she know all the paint colors? Can she point out an LCI model vs. a pre-LCI... No... But that doesn't make her a non-enthusiast.
Also, just because most consumers are skilled in driving dynamics like many of you here, again, that doesn't make them non-enthusiasts. Some people are enthusiasts strictly for the lush and luxury of the 7 series, as where others are Dinan/Alpina/Motorsport junkies... There are a lot of guys on the X forums that are a very different crowd than the people here, but they're still 'enthusiasts' about whatever model/trim level they own. I met a girl about a year ago at a launch party for the A3 sedan and she had recently leased a brand new Alpine White F30 328i. It was a total stripped model, but she still loved the car, and that's all that matters here...
Just because we don't all have the same interests in BMW models or styles, doesn't mean we aren't all enthusiasts... Its a love for the marque, not a specific generation or model.
Ok, just wanted to get that off my chest. I dislike when new BMWs get bashed.
If you want, set up a new thread on Audi and let's keep this thread about our BMWs.

Don't get me wrong joop, I appreciate the new cars! It's just striking how different a lot of them are to where they came from. But, BMW is a business, they have to compete with what else is out there. It's a matter of finding what works for you as a customer in their lineup depending on what you want.
That said, I've been enjoying myself in this 5 series today. The technology actually benefited me a lot already. It's a thousand times safer to sync my phone up to the Bluetooth and use it for my music and the built in nav comes in handy rather than having my phone propped up on the console. It's all well integrated into the driving experience. My girlfriend is enjoying driving the 5er as well...since...she can actually drive it and it's a hell of a lot more car than her prius! Plus she likes the auto-start stop feature since it reminds her of the Prius as well... Lol
There is also people that are fans of the brand and then enthusiast of the brand. Imo...

Yeah it had the M-package, I don't remember the exact model. Sticker said 65k so I bet it was the 35i. It had GORGEOUS metal weave interior trim and I loved every single thing about that car. It jumped to the top of my list over the S4 and E39 M5.

I drive my friend's Z4 35is DCT, and the exhaust is darn near perfect for OEM. It's deep/loud and it burbles/pops when decelerating. It's loud enough for everyone to hear when you mean it and quiet when you're super easy on her.
The special thing that's done to my friend's 35is is it's COBB chipped to 400HP and 420ft-lbs of torque. The thing is a mini beast which drinks the koolaid when you play with her right pedal.
On that note, I gave my alcoholic girl a full tank of Shell Premium 2014, tonight so she's sitting in the driveway full of booze in her belly and very happy. LOL

I wonder if it's cracked like that because of age or if it's actually the material. If the original material holds itself together better, maybe it ships as a roll or something and might not be a PITA to order from the dealer. Otherwise... Dynamat ?

Took my OCD to the next level and jacked the vert up, removed all wheels and scrubbed the suspension/wheel wells. Also cleaned the back of the rims, removed lots of tar and road crud and over spray from wheel refinishing. I had to draw the line at putting dressing on the inner wall of the tires. Always worth it though. We're driving $50k cars!
BTW, you could do much cheaper on the oil if you got the filter only and took M1 0W40 ($23 at walmart for 5qt). RMEuropean has the calipers for $125 each, same core charge... Oil filter kit $5... 36mm socket is $8 at Sears or Lowes. Pretty sure all the Genuine BMW stuff would be cheaper at huskerparts.com or thebmwminipartstore.com as well... ECS has a very nice catalog but you do pay a premium because of that.
For that money on the grills, I would get black BMW Performance ones imo.

Finally had a "few" minutes to repair the trunk light wiring in the elephant trunk. What a PITA!!!! Rather than disassemble the trunk lid and disconnect all the wiring to repair, I just cut the elephant trunk in what ended up being 2 places (first was not far enough down.) I then just used a butt splice and heat shrink'ed the spliced area. I then used some good electrical tape and taped the elephant trunk back together.

Submitted a service survey back to the dealer and to BMW NA over my last service appointment (airbag recall) where they quote me $1800 to replace the oil pan gasket. Here was my response:
Good news:First off, I would like to thank B. as my service advisor for this work. I really enjoyed working with her over my airbag recall.
Bad news: While I am very thankful in Murray BMW informing me of additional work which needed to performed on my car (oil leak; oil pan gasket repair), I am extremely disappointed in the treatment by Murray (NOT B.) when estimating charges for work. It does not and should not take 13-14 hours at a cost of $1,800 to replace an engine oil pan gasket. I do not own a Ferrari. I own an 11-year old BMW which to this day I still love driving. It is not that complicated and should take about four to five hours. If Murray BMW take 14 hours, they are not trained to do their job and are completely inefficient. More importantly, BMW should NOT be charging book time, but be charging actual time for the repair. You are either price gouging your customers or pricing yourself out of work.
This mis-treatment and lack of respect is why I do my own work on my car or am willing to find an independent mechanic. Especially when I can have the same work performed for 1/3 of the cost.
Oh and I drove the ZHP to get sushi. Twas delicious!

Submitted a service survey back to the dealer and to BMW NA over my last service appointment (airbag recall) where they quote me $1800 to replace the oil pan gasket. Here was my response:
Oh and I drove the ZHP to get sushi. Twas delicious!
When I took my zhp to the dealer for the rear light recall, they quoted me about $940 for the oil pan gasket. And about $450 for the VCG. The indie shop where I did my prepurchase inspection quoted me $500 for the oil pan gasket, almost half of what the dealer's quote.
Last saturday I changed the VCG as well as the sparkplugs. It was my first time working on a bimmer I was surprise how easy it was. I spend about $45 on spark plugs, and $52 on the VCG kit. Now i'm just waiting for the weekend to replace the water pump, pulley, serpentine velt and A/c belt.

The oil pan gasket is on my 'to do' list, I'll probably take it to the indie shop once I have $500 to spare. The guy at the indie told me it was a minor leak, but he recommended to change the VCG so that's what I did.

My BMW tech contact gave me a 7h estimate for mine. I'll just top up with $22/5qt 0W40. :rofl
Does not take 7 hours and a lift. I knocked it out in roughly 5 with the car on jackstands. I also did the engine and trans mounts plus cleaned the oil-dipstick tube.

A rebuilt E46 caliper is about $60 from other reputable sources. For example TMS. Or if you have access to an air compressor, you can rebuild yourself for about $10. Just watch your fingers when you blow out the piston. Rebuilding a caliper is pretty easy.

^I second the caliper rebuild! I actually had the car on and hit the brake to get the piston out as much as it can then just softly hammered it out after disconnecting everything.

Rotated my tires. I love having a square setup, but it's a little annoying having to have two extra wheels to put on temporarily while the tires from the other side are taken off so they can be rotated! Having to jack the car up on one side twice is also a little weird, but a price I'm willing to pay. :)

I like the feel of Alcantara in the summer. I clean both wheels after I take them off so they're fresh for the summer season :thumbsup
The leather wheels take a beating in the hot New England sun in summer so I mount them in winter where the sun isn't as brutal on the leather finish...

You should be able to fix it. The u-joints line up a certain way. Basically you sit washers or coins on the round part of the u joints and put a straight edge or level to make sure it's in line and you should be good.

I need to correct my statement on my procedure here because I wasn't thinking clearly when I originally posted.
Put the drive shaft on a flat smooth surface and put the spacers under the u joints to get it level, you will need the csb to keep it level in the middle. Then you use a level and generally eyeball it making sure the u joints are lined up exactly the same or as close as your eyes can get it. I have done this with success on my e30 several times.

Sorry, John - I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. :(
If it was this easy, I wonder why the shop that replaced my CSB said they couldn't do it. Is this an official procedure, or is there something else that driveshaft places typically do to get it balanced?

As I have the AA tuner I should probably do a DIY for this.
You need to have the battery connected to a charger/tender while the tune is being written/rewritten to the ECU. This prevents the battery from draining for one reason or another and mucking up your car while the tune is being installed.
Can you install the tune w/out a battery charger/tender? Yes. I've changed tunes at the track before however, it isn't recommended you do this. I was being a little cavalier with my tuning actions lol. And no one had a tender.

I had a sticky front right caliper. Changed out both fronts today with refurbed. That sticky one was a beast to get off. So nice to have it back on the road especially since I had the front end suspension refresh done. Thing feels incredible.
Now I just gotta get the rear done and I might as well do rear calipers at some point too.
On that note, I have more on the way. Blind spot mirror glass to replace the rusty drivers side glass, front and rear pillars, new front bumper reflectors, center caps, door clips to stop the rattling from the broken ones, and a windshield cowl.

Not BMW, but noticed a rust hole in the deck of my JD 245 mower last weekend. I visited the dealer to buy tuneup parts and priced out a new deck - holy cow, more than a coilover suspension. CL to the rescue, found another 48" deck, transferred my blades, pulleys, shafts, bigger system, everything to the other deck and it operates perfectly. But what a PITA, it took me yesterday afternoon and all of today.

Wow that is insane. What were your aperture and shutter speed? Diggin the use of the light as well! I need to pic up something like that.

ISO 25,600 picture was at F4 and 1/1250th of a second since it was still dusk. I could have afforded double the shutter to brighten it up but that was after my brain kicked in. LOL But if you click the picture and zoom in with the Flickr website, you'll see the detail is still there and the noise is pretty uniform without softening the edges. So not bad! Rather it's marvelous!

As an ///M should be. LOL. I got my airbag recall done, got a new rattle clip on a brake caliper that fell off, and sent it through the car wash.

Yeah that recall is on the list of things to do asap as well. Also need to go get my new winter wheel painted to match the other 3 - the one lost in the great drunk driver parking incident of 2014.
4 New tires mounted and road-balanced this morning. Factory style 135's are not bent and the car rides soo much better.

Long due oil change and reset the adaptations. I haven't been driving it hard at all lately so it felt good to enjoy it again.

There is a key sequence you can do. We have it on here somewhere. Sorry I can't search for you this sec. I'll try to find it later if someone doesn't post it up.

Those are only the throttle adaptations. The engine management-related adaptations are reset with a computer, using either DIS or ISTA.

Eh...that's what I have now and I wouldn't buy them again. Stick with Kumhos for budget performance. They are more predictable...I spun out on the Sumi's pretty quickly (and unexpectedly) in the parking lot. The Kumhos hold grip a little longer, but when they lose grip it's easier to predict. Good luck!!

Tonight I diagnosed a failed fuel pump. It was a very easy thing to diagnose :) time to get my hands dirty.

Had to wait for my paycheck, and I only got paid yesterday so unfortunately not :( luckily I was less than 5 miles from home so the tow was free :) we had to hook up to the control arms because I have no tow hook in my trunk kit. Have to buy that too.

I was a little :eek about it. So when he was pulling it on to the bed I went to the other side and watched from under the car. They didn't even budge under the load :) :roundel
So aside from fuel pump, and fuel pump relay, anything else I might want to replace while I'm back there?

Just swap the fuel pump relay with the horn relay. If the horn still works it's not the relay and you can leave that alone. Make sure when you test the horn the car key is in 1 position or else it'll be a silent horn. Haha

The fuel pump should come with a gasket. If not, you should get one.

Even if the relay isn't bad, it's one of those common things my friend replaces on cars at the dealership. It's so cheap it's worth doing anyway.
