Well, technically I'm a day late as I did this yesterday, but I was too whooped last night to get online... So, yesterday brought a few local buddies together for a little hangout at my house, centered around a diff swap in my car.

Swapped to the 3.46 that I picked up locally for $100. :) Its been raining cats and dogs ever since, but man, the car feels SO lively now, I'm really happy with it. Of course, I was responsible and replaced all the diff seals as well when we swapped the flanges, and I put in fresh Redline 75W90 as well, even though the "old redline" was only about 4K miles old... :facepalm

Pics? Sorry no pics taken.. Imagine white ZHP in the garage, Imola ZHP sedan, silver ZHP sedan, and E90 M3 sedan all in the driveway... Oh and a Jeep... :biggrin
Nice. Mine has been sitting on my work bench since winter. No time to install and need to rally up some help before I tackle it solo.

This is probably my plan for the summer. Let's see how much more petro it uses. And turn off the Auto on winter.

You should leave it in auto... It doesn't use the AC much during the winter but it does cycle it from time to time to keep things working properly.

Also, 2-4mpg isn't that accurate; it's more like 1. I tested this with a particular route that involves back roads and highway late at night and found it doesn't make more than a 1mpg difference, if that. It depends on your speed. Even rolling with the windows down on the highway versus using AC is a negligible difference.

It would be cold outside. So, temp need to be raised inside. Leaving on Auto would as if leave the A/C on. Kinda defeats the purpose of heating the cabin. Just thinking this through....

Not true. Auto will blow whatever air it needs to so it keeps it at the temperature you set. If it's 0 degrees out, it most definitely isn't blowing ice cold air at you even in Auto.

Auto is meant for year round use. In the summer it'll keep the car cool. In the winter it'll keep it warm.

To maintain air temperature inside the cabin, different vents will blow varying temperature air so it reaches the temperature you specify. If you turn auto off, chances are it will be either too cold or too warm in the car, ensuring you having to fiddle with settings to make it right. Auto prevents the need to constantly press buttons; all you need to do in auto is adjust the temperature slider on the vents, that's it.

Aha moment. That's the purpose of the vent sliders. I run at 72 deg. on summer. Do we have to reset the Auto temp during cold weather?

Nope. If 72 is your favorite temp then leave it on 72 Auto year round. If you want it a little color or warmer, just adjust the slider.

I probably haven't touched my temperature adjustment (in an attempt to make it the temperature I want) for the better part of a couple of years. 72 all day, baby.

Heh, thanks guys... Its truly a stupid vehicle to buy for my wife to shuttle our two kids around in. But, I drove it with the mindset that it will be her car and she will drive it 90% of the time. That being said, I didn't get all wild with the throttle. I just took it for a 5-10 mile city drive with the guy, and to be honest, I was very impressed with how mild mannered it is. I didn't engage MDM at all while driving and I only gave it considerable throttle once or twice. During normal easy driving, it is very easy to drive, pretty quiet (with the exception of the run flats), and comfortable. You can definitely tell it has ///M suspension and a sport inspired transmission as both are more sporty/aggressive/responsive than standard equivalents. I did do a few paddle shifts, but even then, they were just mildly spirited, not full throttle runs or anything.

As for this vehicle, the Silverstone Metallic is absolutely gorgeous, and this from a guy that hates silver cars. Its actually a very very light blue, beautiful against the black leather. Black isn't my first choice, but better than the god awful red. The vehicle is mildly optioned, but has enough of them to keep me entertained... Piano black trim is nice too, although a bit boring. Perhaps I can locate some carbon leather or even real carbon fiber.

So far, the only major downside I noticed... Avg speed logged on the vehicle was 25mph... Average economy, 12.3mpg... :facepalm

We shall see. :biggrin

Over the current vehicle, nothing will improve the fuel situation, but that's not the issue. We want an X5 for the space. We haven't been looking for an ///M at all, but we didn't rule it out because of fuel, we're just trying to not spend $50k+. The ///M just isn't the most economical version. But still, ///M.

Also, you gotta get the 135s back on there...I mean...they are part of what makes a ZHP a ZHP (despite being heavy).

you know, i can agree with that to some point - enough that i bothered to spend the money to find a set with good tires to put on my sedan. they do look great on there (especially with the spacers i just put on), but they are really heavy. i'm considering a set of lightweight 18" wheels, perhaps even 17" - i can only imagine how much better the car would be with 7-10lbs less unsprung, rotating weight per corner.

Yeah, another aspect of my tire and wheel research has been thinking about that. ZHP's (BP's...Eric's) I drove at Bimmerfest felt so much "lighter" than mine. It's a hard thing to describe, but I guess it really is lightness just in a different form than say, removing the seats. Shawn and I's cars would be good candidates for back to back comparison considering the PO did exactly what you are describing and opted for the 17's. Although I still think a big factor in the way mine feels are the damn tires...I drove my friends Dad's stock ZHP coupe with PSS's on the 135's and it felt so much more alive.

Run flats are super heavy tires. Ditch them as soon as you can. Plus they are noise I bet.

yep, tires make a big difference. PSS are also very light tires - they really are the perfect tire! :)

PSS are 22lbs for a front tire and 25lbs for a rear tire in factory zhp sizing. However Conti DWS are 21lbs for a front tire and 23lbs for a rear tire.

...I mean...they are "nice" run-flats. Bridgestone Potenza RE050A all-seasons, definitely not cheapo's. Excellent grip in the rain and above 35mph there is hardly any noise, it's only around town (20-30mph) where I notice noise, but the alignment I got lessened it a bit. They have 5-6/32nds left so I'm going to keep driving on them for a bit longer.

Yeah, apples to oranges. The difference in grip is always what matters; a pound or two per corner is absolutely trivial and makes no real performance difference having a lighter weight tire versus one with a LOT more grip!

Ripped off the sagging material from my A-pillar on the passenger side. Already did this on the rears, just three pillars left (driver's A-pillar and both B-pillars). I will do these when they completely detach like the others did...

Honestly, you can't really tell that much that the material is off. From the outside it looks the same as the factory material (just not sagging) and on the inside, so far nobody has noticed.

I still need to pull the seats out of mine and vacuum. My S2000 was NASTY when I bought it! So much so that when I mentioned it to the salesman he looked, and they agreed to take 1k off the price.

Anyways, no pics, but I changed the oil for the first time, and it runs a lot better. Scares me to think what the Dodge dealer I bought the car from put in there! Also bought the euro lights all around and BMW Performance grilles from the classifieds here last week. Still waiting on those though.

All on the 02

Modified the trunk latch so the trunk would fit even tighter - you could move it up and down on the seal and latch. I am trying to rid the car from exhaust getting into the cabin

did a string alignment - DAMN IT WAS OFF - major toe out

Had to trim some material off the left caliper on one corner to clear the wheel - so weird that only the left hit - I even swapped the two front wheels (for curiosity sake)

installed new front bearing dust caps

swapped the full height (1 inch) BBS hex nuts for 1/4 height...

V12 EVOs. I didn't pick them, so much as they picked me. My car had mismatched tires on the stock 135s when I bought it. Fronts were the Hankooks with about 10k miles on them, still in good shape. I replaced the 135s with a set of 71s shod with ten year old, but low mileage Dunlop SP9000s. Those tires were crap when new, and were unbearable now with a deafening roar and rough ride. Rather than toss the Hankooks, I bought a matching pair for the rear, and had the fronts moved to my new wheels. They should wear out at about the same rate. Bonus points, the Hankooks are decent tires and good value for money.

Installed new wiper motor and windshield cowling with new Bosch icons. The old linkage plastic pivot piece on the passenger side completely broke off (when PO owned it) and was never fixed. This caused the passenger wiper to essentially be pivoting on the cowling alone, making a ton of noise and stopping 4-5 inches above normal resting position.

Took me forever to get the installation piece and nut unscrewed as everything was extremely rusted and leaking into the air filter box and down the firewall. Got it all cleaned up- works as new!

Also,

Well, as it would happen, my right rear window regulator crapped out on me yesterday afternoon. Luckily, my wife was near the dealer and picked up a replacement for me. Then, while speaking to the new owner and keeping him up to speed with the car, he mentions doing the left rear regulator as well, because it is clicking... So, I went back to the dealer and purchased another regulator.. I told him I would pay for the one that broke, but he was footing the bill for the other one.

Then this afternoon I replaced both regulators, reinitialized both windows...

Perfect......... Or so I thought...

Of course, when the bad regulator puked its guts all over the door, it dragged along the tint, so I had to run the car over to the tint shop today and have a window redone... Such a headache, and its eating into my sales money! Ah well...

Took her for a nice drive this evening, was nice to enjoy the summer weather and the windows down.

I have a hard time believing the sag being caused by driving with the windows down. What is the science behind it? I'd think baking in the hot sun to be a lot bigger contributor, if not the only contributor, to this issue. Could you please explain?

Nah, I have to re-initalized my windows seemingly every 2-3 months for some reason. It's very nice having the one-touch up/down for them. Bummer you had to put more money into it Joop but glad it's fixed and ready to go.

Humidity makes sense...

Agree with devlin. It's the humidity that kills the glue and the wind will peel the fabric back...

Yes, heat and/or humidity being the root cause... not the wind. If the glue doesn't fail then the wind has no effect whatsoever.
So, in that case, they should start peeling regardless of whether you drive with the windows down, because when you park the car and it's humid outside, it becomes humid inside as well. There's pretty much no way to prevent it from happening...

It's like a hard drive. 100% failure rate; it's not if it'll fail, it's [/I]when[/I] it will fail.

My thoughts are it's the wind turbulence in the back window area of the car. The glues gets old due to the heat, humidity, age, etc. and the fabric begins to sag. The wind them grabs and tugs at the loose bits and the worse it gets the worse it gets. :dunno

Just picked up non curbed OEM 18's with 95% rear winter Blizzak 255 LM60's and 80% Pirelli 225 Wintersports in the front on Craigslist. Mismatched front/back but for $850 it was like getting free wheels or free tires. There is some imperfections in the paint which I can fix if I really want to. We even test fit and I drove on them for 30 mins to make sure everything felt smooth at high speed, braking hard, WOT, and corners.

The LM60's did a good job at sticking their traction at full throttle from a stop without DSC activating in summer temps. On gear shifts with anything other than fully straight the tires want to wiggle a bit but not enough to engage DSC.

The ///M is ready for winter now!!!

Drove mine to work, I need to see if my washer nozzles are clogged up or if the pump has gone out again ("again" meaning it went out like 5 years ago, haha). I needed it the other day and it was spraying so weak, nothing hardly out of the drivers side, just a little on the passenger side which got wiped over to drivers side and eventually did the trick, but I still didn't like it. Poor car just doesn't get driven enough anymore. Distance wise anyway, she gets driven nearly every day, but just a few miles to and from work typically.

Yeah...I don't like parking it under those trees....unfortunately, the wagon did...but I washed them all up yesterday afternoon so all is good!

Love the oil changes on the jeep....no ramps, no jack...just a 17mm and an oil catching sump!

When Alex gets low on American freedom fuel he'll go easy on the flogging real quick since Canada premium fuel is like $5.60USD/gallon.

Was way lower on gas than I thought this weekend. The remaining miles indicator showed dashes, not miles. I put over 16 gallons in.

Also, dropped off Heiu's roller to Gary in Vegas.

I calculated it to actually be in the high 4's per gallon in USD currency... remember to do the currency conversion!

Sent from my GS3.

It was about $1.35 per liter in CAD currency when I was there.
$1.35 per liter x ~3.79 = ~$5.12 CAD = $4.67 USD...

Currently C$1.63 at the Shell near my house. :shifty

91 octane very rarely goes under $1.44 these days and that's only in the dead of the winter when people are afraid to drive lol.

currently it's ~$1.47/L for 91 octane in ontario where i live (it's more expensive where alex lives!). $1.47 x 3.79 = $5.55CAD/gal

$5.55CAD = $5.06USD at today's exchange rate.

doesn't matter much; it sucks either way! :)

There's an additional tax in the greater Montreal area to subsidize public transport. Still never less than $1.40ish though.

Same in Vancouver. TransLink has its hands in your pockets in several different ways, gas tax being one of them.

I can't believe I'm doing this again. The CF shell has surface defects in it. So far Turner has been great, even sending another set to swap out so I don't have to wait for the replacement with my door in pieces.

Ugh. Every time you take them apart it is another chance to break the ribbon. I broke one and increased the cost of the project by $200 because of a slip of my hand.

That's the main reason I'm not too keen on taking my mirrors completely apart to swap out mirror housings.... it would be just my luck tearing a ribbon cable and then having to purchase a new motor just to reroute the ribbon connector. I would love to meet the engineer who came up with this solution so I can tell him what I think about his design (thumbsdown)....

Nothing is perfect and paint can have defects too but yea it sucks to have take them apart again. Just make sure you get them from a good source like Turner. I'm sure if I got these from eBay, I wouldn't be getting a new pair 9 months later.

Nothing, zero, nada ... done for my Mini or e90 today. My wife and I have been carpooling since Aug-14 (when our kid started kinder). So, both cars have been resting in the garage for some days already. We are driving her Saab.
