Just installed my OEM M3 strut brace (my fancy nuts finally arrived). Took the car for a drive and aggressively threw it into some turns - front end definitely feels tighter, you can feel the suspension is working better due to the reduction in flex in the front end. I didn't realize I would feel so much of a difference!

Note to anyone doing this - the M3 bar DOES require six of those fancy flanged nuts, and based on the way the fit tightly into the bar I would recommend that you only use the flanged nuts rather than cheap out and reuse the regular strut top nuts. You NEED these for the added thread, and they do position the mounts properly on the strut top - the cutout in the centre does NOTHING to position the mount.

I bought the fancy nuts from thebmwminipartstore.com on Johal E32's recommendation (thanks again!) - they shipped fast and with a very reasonable shipping price to Canada. I will definitely use them again.

The addictions back!

It's been exactly a year since I pulled my ZHP out of daily driver status because of a bad power steering pump. For the remainder of the summer I drove either the bike or new truck and only took her out for C&Cs or weekend drives. I had purchased a new pump and had intentions of changing it over the Labor day weekend but, the symptoms started to fade away and we scrapped that idea. Then fall came, it was wet, cold and slippery, with leaf filled back hills and it sat for a little while longer. Winter was cold and I saw no need to bother with the Blizaks with the truck around. Next came the move to midnights in late January. Even with the weather worming up, I still had to deal with the morning dew daily and chose the truck that had to sit out anyway.

Fast forward to a few weeks ago and I'm back on days and started driving the ZHP on nice days. Had a changing forecast one day that it got wet, gave her a bath that weekend and tried again. Nope still didn't stay dry this week and by this morning I felt the need. Yes that need! The addictions back and I'm back in the saddle again enjoying the back hills drive to and from work. Heck I'm even finding myself drawn th the Dinan site looking for my next mod after some needed PM.

:( Definite withdrawal next week. I rented a Caravan for the family vacation. :facepalm

Changed out the napa gold intake filter for an oe performance filter. The metal bracket on the back of the napa was impeding airflow I think. The engine had lost some of its snarl, for lack of a better term. Was sounding a bit raspy. Definitely notice a difference. Unfortunately after shipping thru ecs the perf filter was $74. Sigh.

Then I gave her a bath. She's happy now.

Trying to stave off the itch to buy some arc-8s. I like my wheels ok, I'm just ready for some new duds and have lusted for arc-8s for a couple years now.

Ever since I had an alignment done, the rear camber had been reduced and the tires rubbed pretty frequently in the rear, so I had some plastic modified on my rear fender lining and bumper so that the tires don't rub anymore. This is a pretty aggressive offset without adding more tire-ruining camber... et35.

No more rub.

Not that bad of a job actually once the motor is secured from the top. I made my own brace that I used. Then just remove alot of parts and slide the pan out.

sillieidiot rolled my rear fenders, removed most of the cement gunk in the wheel well but then re-sealed them, re-adjusted the headlights (inner Morimoto retrofit), fixed the bad Orion V2, picked up some new studs from eas and replaced two of them since two of my studs were Loctited incorrectly to their respective Muteki lug nuts. Plus let me borrow his 17-inch style 168 wheel and tire.

Apparently my rear passenger tire had a screw embedded in it, plus it had a gash across, from the face of the wheel to the inside. It didn't pop when I drove over since it was pretty deflated.

Hoping it can be fixed. If not, I guess this is a good excuse to get those Hankooks early......(plus they're on sale aren't they?)

Not exactly. A piece of the plastic was cut out, but the actual trim is still there. The bolt was also shaved, though it wasn't running on the bolt at all. The only piece that still makes very minor contact is the bumper body nut, which is shiny on the edge due to contact. It can't be heard and doesn't do any damage to the tire or nut so I left that alone.

If I remember to, I'll take a pic the next time the rear wheels are off, which will be within a week or so when I flush/bleed brakes.

Tried my hand at some paint work today. This is not something I'd normally do on my own, but I figured anything I did would be an improvement. The scratch was just forward of the passenger rear wheel arch, under the character line on the rocker panel.

This is what I started with. The scratch was about 7" long.

The whole process was about 2.5 hours. Lots of waiting for the coats of primer, paint, and clear to dry. I filled the time by treating my teak patio furniture to a coat of oil. Next weekend I'll try a little wet sanding and rubbing compound to even up the finish.

Seafoam treatment on the E39 M5 for my dad, kinda of a PITA to remove intake plenum and velocity stacks then pour seafoam in all 8 ITB's.. Did make a difference, car seems to warm up faster and gets a bit warmer (was always on the cold side before), mpg was gone up a bit, and it feels a bit peppier (maybe placebo, power was never an issue with this car..lol)

Doing a seafoam treatment on the E46 is SUPEr easy and made a difference on the wagon as well, via brake booster and half bottle in gas tank. Car seems more responsive off the line.

Washed, clayed rinsed and waxed my hood. First step in recovery is completed. Now only 11 panels to go!!

The paint is so soft and smooth. My mother went out and felt the difference. She was impressed.

Used Meguiars products. Clay kit, wash with the carnuba wax and the finishing wax. No pics. Sorry. :(

I did 1/2 can intake,/brkebooster line 1/2 can gas tank. Then 1/2 can into oil 500 miles before an oil change.

I run Techron or Seafoam thru the gas tank every 1200-1500 miles or so.

Seafoam thru intake is FUN!

What are the process in crankcase and brake booster?

Hermes

I wouldn't put it in the brake booster, I would try to feed it into the f tube on the intake boot. You want it to evenly disperse into the entire intake manifold. As for the crankcase just pour it into the oil and drive at least 100 miles. There is actually a calculation on the bottle for how much you are supposed to use based on oil capacity.

IIRC I use calculated amount for oil, 1/3 can in intake manifold, balance in gas tank

Why, because I drive like a madman and still get 20mpg?

Edit: interestingly, I almost the same mpg in my fairly modified/floored all the time 6MT that I get driving conservatively around town in the currently stock step. Yes, the auto has a 3.64 but the 6MT has a 3.38 so it's not exactly designed for economy

Learned this week - if your BMW/MINI product keeps giving CEL for gas cap open - it is likely the DMTL (Diagnostic Module Tank Leakage) also referred to as the Leak Diagnosis Pump. This component is part of the Evaporative Emissions System.

It creates the vacuum on the EVAP system and is located at the charcoal canister. It went out on my daughter's MINI S (learned this after having her replace the gas cap (did not fix) while I was in Bermuda). The cheapo scanner only reported gas cap - it wasn't until I tested with one of my scanners that we learned the codes were actually for the DTML

MAFs are about $325 and everybody I've seen say it has to be OEM. Only replace if you're flush on cash or getting SES errors.

The price of a Genuine BMW MAF varies a LOT. Some dealers (like my local one) wants $560 for one, while others (such as the one I actually bought it from) were far less. I bought it for about $390 after tax locally at another dealer, and the price would be about the same if you ordered it online if you calculate in shipping. Definitely get a Genuine BMW one. The cheapest I found it online for is about $350ish plus shipping.

MAFs are a wear and tear item; I wouldn't consider them a "replace when you get a code" type of thing. You may not get codes for them at high mileage, but your performance and economy will suffer. In my case, I had a NASTY vibration between 3-4k if I accelerated hard in first or second. Also, my acceleration was a bit jerky below 2k if I was easy on the throttle. A new MAF fixed the vibration issue altogether and it performs better, smoother now. As far as the jerkiness goes... it went away briefly after replacing the MAF, clearing the code, and resetting the adaptations, but now it's back ever so slightly. I do not have any codes yet, but I only replaced the MAF two days ago.

I bought through PayPal and got a receipt for $6 because of shipping (still waiting to see the charge in my Bank of America checking account though). They have the Gen4 ones for the ///M and the normal ones work with both 325 & 330 (according to their website)

Removed a very dirty nasty looking air filter that came with the AFE intake on the car. It was the oil-version and replaced it with the dry AFE filter.

No clue how many miles were on the oil filter but by the looks of it it was alot and probably the original filter that came with the intake.

330i ZHP
07-16-2014, 05:32 PM
I only ground about 2mm total length on main fins. But rounded off the sides to match the profiles of the original lens

I have two sets of the x5 lights (ordering mistake) so if this first one doesn't work I should be ok with backup.

How would you make caps? Like use the caps that come on later headlights? I have a set of zkw e46 bixenon assembles. Maybe that rubber seal would fit?

Oh I certianly understand lol. I asked him why he had the plate made, apparently he liked the Mafia logo. And then I asked him why he didn't just join up. Membership is open now and he has a ZHP so there's nothing stopping him. He didn't give me much of an answer. Nice guy overall but.... fickle.

FYI the plate I will be using the front braket for is NOT the Mafia plate lol. It's just in the pic to show a random find. I have a personal plate a friend gave me years ago as an inside joke and it's been on every vehicle I've owned. The Mafia plate will be going on my random car memorabilia shelf. I should have clarified that in my previous post to avoid confusion. I've yet to actually meet any of you folks and I've not been on here for long so I still feel it'd be innapropriate and distasteful to just start slapping Mafia items on my car. Especially non offical Mafia items at that. My 2 cents lol.

And the tool kit has been installed as well as the glove box adapter and I'm loving it :). Time to start buying tools to rebuild the kit.

I have the GPS on that, my phone routed from the euro tray to a usb port on the back of my sony nav/radio, and now the glove box adapter for other things... Like passengers... So they can charge their phone too.. If they behave and I haven't kicked them out already lol.

I was freaked at the idea of $150+

Riiiight? "Hmm.. I'ma post this simple lil device on ebay. 25 bu...Oh what's that? They're slightly hard to find? Never mind then. 200 bucks, your first born, and a ham sandwich extra cheese... Happy bidding."

This is an evening of looking at the "problem" and about ten minutes of trimming plastic and metal heat sink material not needed

OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG

Are you modding the wagon to have LED fogs?!?!

I want some too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

X5 LED foglights mounted in e46 housings. TRS had a sale on them last year. I should have bought them then.

Sent from my GS3.

x2! I thought about buying those from TRS, but couldn't physically tell what size they were, thought they might be too big.

they are selling them for like $60 for a pair right now

So I'll buy a pair, ship them to you, ship you my current fogs and you can mod me a pair too? Please?!?!

lol

LED foglights - look cool but lighting and pattern for our cars kinda sucks compared to xenon 9006 HID kit light output

I may keep these in just to know I wont have anymore ballast, igniter or bulb failures...from all the various HID kit vendors

For a period of 2 years I went through so many different HID parts, for about 2 years now somehow mine have been working fine with the current setup.

*knocks on wood*

Would still love to see some pics if you have some free time.

I am sure the other drivers will appreciate me not having xenon fogs blinding them...but I loved the amount of light that just bled out in all directions

Yes, my better half was complaining about mine being to bright while following recently.

Washed Ness. Looks gorgeous in the evening light. Darn, forgot to take a pic before it got dark.

Came up for a drive to Calabogie Motorsports Park just outside of Ottawa to see our very own BP run Wobbie through the paceshttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/07/21/daqe3ypy.jpg
