Pads and rotors all the way around (thanks Ray!) and she stops much better. Surprisingly the pads were not as worn as I expected but the performance of the new stuff (Stoptech pads, Centric rotors) is pretty nice.

Now today I just did lubro moly engine flush and getting ready to change the oil. 140151401614017

Looks to me like the only thing on the rear OOS is the cross camber and it's only out by .1 degree. Caster is out on the front, but that won't affect tire wear.

The spec is .3 to -.3. It's out of spec by .1 degree. If a temperature is 191 degrees and the spec is 180-190, you don't say that it is out by 191 degrees.

So...am I worrying about all of this or just driving until I get new tires and then looking into making sure they can be aligned fully to spec?

Cross camber is only the difference between the left and right camber of each set of wheels. I wouldn't worry about it all.

I guess my whole point in mentioning this was:
1. I think the shop could have done better, but not something to worry about. We're all OCD when it comes to maintaining our cars.
2. When you guys have a shop perform work on your cars, you need to look at what they did, and ask questions then so you can understand why they did, what they did.
Too often I hear of issues after the fact, where the owner doesn't understand what the shop worked on, why a part was replaced, why one side was aligned differently than the other, etc.
Even when taking your car to the shop, try to be as involved as possible with what's going on regarding the maintenance.

Agree with everything you just said, Dane.
They absolutely could have done a better job of making sure each side was almost the same camber. OP, before you get worried that it's going to be detrimental leaving it, it won't. If I had noticed it BEFORE I had left, I would have made them put it back on the rack. Notice it afterwards and I'd keep it in the back of my mind for next time.

And I understand that you can't always watch the evolution. Look at the paperwork afterwards, read down each line item, understand each line item, and ask probing questions.

One thing I often ask of an alignment shop is will they align to my spec, or will they just align it somewhere within the manufacturer's spec? I find the manufacturer's spec often will allow them to put negative camber on one side, and positive on the other; and similar with toe in and out. I always stress to them that I want it symmetrical (within reason, of course) on both sides. Often you will need to pay more for the alignment when you request this, as the standard pricing assumes that it's a much quicker job.
Daniel, I think it looks ok. Your front toe was pretty high on the right side, I believe that was the tire that was the worst for feathering. I think you'll be ok now.
Also, it's important to note that the best alignment for tire life isn't the best for performance and vice-versa.

Definitely. When I took my car to the shop they asked my driving style and aligned to that (w/in the specs). As far as my car, gave Ness a much needed wash this weekend.

With a little help from my father, and a phone a friend to DW, I ended a two day battle with my rotor retaining bolt! Last person to replace my brakes stripped it when they installed it. (The last person to do my brakes was Midas two years ago...yes yes it realize it is not difficult, but I had just bought my car and didn't know how to do anything with it ). So both side fronts have new rotors and ceramic pads. Changed the oil, and had to replace a tire because my camber is off bad and had worn and was cupped. Time to spend $150 at the stealership to get an alignment. Oh and I found the paint is chipping under my hood. The paint is only about two years old it should not be rusting. The body shop is looking into fixing it.
On Sunday I gave my baby her first proper wash and detail of the summer.
Overall a very productive couple of days.

I have my setting set at 40 posts per page and I had to go back 9 pages to catch up! Great work everybody, some really good maintenance and mods for the month of May.
As for me, I've been kind MIA for awhile, May has been INSANELY busy. I did get one thing done recently for my ZHP though, after nearly 3 years on my VMR's I decided to swap out the VMR caps with "new" style BMW center caps. I didn't like the swap immediately afterwards as I had grown accustomed to the black VMR caps, but its growing on me. Its good to be "home!"

Day 3 of being completely immobile (ZHP's my only car + college senior = stranded)
Dropped it off at the shop on Monday and won't get it back until Friday or most likely, Saturday.
Things being done:
Oil change + new filter
Transmission fluid flush (8 quarts) + new filter
Differential fluid change
New shock mounts (x4) - bearing and FCABs/RTABs are fine.
Koni Yellow and H&R spring install
Max out rear camber

Great price because you know the owner and are taking a back seat to those paying full price? Feel like I've heard this before somewhere on this forum...
If that is the case I don't feel terrible for you :) however the shop really should be able to spend a couple hours on that and be done with it. Nothing difficult about any of it. Suspension is time consuming but with shop tools should be no sweat.

Sort of....I dropped the car off earlier this week on Monday with only the brand-new Koni Yellows with H&R springs. Our (me and the owner of the shop) mutual friend then delivered the goods (differential, engine, transmission oil/fluid, filters, shock mounts, etc.) to the shop, and the last stuff arrived just earlier today on Wednesday.
Now, they are always busy. Right before Memorial Day weekend too so lots of customers' track toys and/or family cars coming in. Part of the reason why he gives me a better-than-fair deal every time is because I work on his schedule and don't demand fast turn-around times. Plus he knows his stuff - I met many of his customers now and know a few by name since they come regularly. Most of his customers, he's known for 10-25+ years!
There's literally dozens of BMW indie shops within 10 miles of my place but I keep driving over 25 miles round-trip to his shop for the past two years - since he always gives prices that make me feel like he's hooking me up when it's just fair but appears ridiculously low compared to everyone else. :)

made an appt w/ the indy for next tues. full brake job (pads, rotors, sensors, stainless lines), plus new rear tires (hankook ventus v12 evo2). the fronts are almost exactly halfway through the tread, while the rears are shot. 2/1 life ratio for fronts/rears is nice as far as replacing timing goes. plan to get Michelin PSS's all around when the fronts go.

I added another bimmer to my fleet but its not a zhp. I had a wagon just like this one from about 2010-2012....have no idea what I was thinking when I sold it since it was pristine with very few miles when I got it, but for some stupid reason I sold it and within 6 months regretted it and have been searching for another one since. Last Friday this one popped up on AutoTrader....and before there were even photos up I called and after getting some info, I put a deposit down and started preparations for my trip. Sunday at 6am, my son and I hopped into my 2009 Subaru Outback 3.0R (a very nice wagon for sure...but not what my 530 was) and headed west. We got to Amarillo by late-night (just like the song...kinda) and by Monday noon, I was transferring stuff out of the Subaru and into the 530. It's pretty sad but as I was moving my stuff from one vehicle to the other, having already handed over my keys and a check and signed all the papers, it dawned on me that I hadn't even test driven the 530 yet! In any case, Tuesday morning we departed on our return trip and by Wednesday at 4pm, my son and I were home. The trip was long and arduous and the front of the wagon was plastered with 1400mi of bugs but in the end it was worth it. This 07 530 had a mere 29,990mi on it (now 31400 after the long drive home) but it is literally immaculate...due to living in such an arid climate, there's not a spot of rust on it anywhere! The cool thing is that now I have two BSM bimmers in the garage sitting side-by-side...they're both of similar vintages so they compliment each other nicely!

I don't know that I would characterize it as slow....that being said, mine has the sport package so it gives back a very solid, extremely predictable feel when pushed on curves. It's not whippy and nimble as my zhp cic but then again, I don't want it to be either! For a big, heavy wagon, it handles pretty damned good to me.

Replaced front wheel studs, went from Bimmerworld bargain 75mm (on car for 3 years) to BimmerWorld mid-grade 82mm. Barely noticeable visual difference. It will allow me to run a 12mm or 15mm spacer more easily (currently have 5mm spacer) but now m thinking I should have gotten the 90mm studs. Will post pictures in one of the wheel stud threads.
On front right, after install, heard metal scraping when spinning wheel. The round shield that protects the inner part of the hub and the wheel speed sensor had broken off and the tips of the new studs (1-2mm longer than old studs on threaded part that goes into hub) were scraping on it. It was connected to brake shield using a bunch of tiny spot rivits or spot welds that had broken. I almost cut it off with rotary tool but used some JB Weld epoxy stick to stick it back to the rest of the brake shield. Hopefully it will stay there. Replacing the whole shield should be easy if the hub is off (I previously removed it when replacing the hub), but I don't know of a way to replace the shield without removing the hub.

Few things occurred today, have a few questions maybe one/some of you all can help me with...
-Picked up my RTAB tool from a local e46 M3 owner, don't get me started on the car, looks completely stock, back when I bought my ZHP (in 2006) somehow I told myself that I didn't like e46 coupes and talked myself into a ZHP. I don't regret it at all, but damn that car is fine as hail!
Anyhow, question 1. Have any of you guys with the MIS RTAB tool had to replace the threaded "bolt" that comes with the tool? The guy that rented it had trouble with it at a certain point, the damage or issue cannot be seen by the naked eye, all we can determine is that the threads must have stretched ever so slightly to make using the tool more difficult. If any of you have replaced it, were you able to buy the threaded part at Lowe's or somewhere easy? Or perhaps somewhere I'm not thinking of? Thanks!
-Ran into Auto-Zone for some random stuff, while browsing, saw a cool tool that said it was a "non-marring" lug socket. One of those things I knew had to exist, but had not ever come across. I have the worst luck when removing or installing wheels/tires, I've marred my VMR's in a few spots, I would love to not do that anymore.
So, question 2. I'm sure some of you guys already have this type of tool, where is a good place to get one? Tool was $9.95 at Auto-Zone, but I'm not so keen on Auto-Zone tools.
-Did my yearly tag removal, waxing behind the tag mount, changing of yearly sticker (I prefer to remove the old ones, not let them pile up), waxing of tag and re-installation of everything. This year I removed the trunk handle/tag light housing as well as there was some road grime that would not come off right at the trunk handle. I haven't done that before, but it was easy enough; although I couldn't figure out how to disconnect it. Instead I grabbed another microfiber rag and just laid it back out of the way. When I tested my tag lights (not OEM, some LED replacement's I bought years ago) one side wasn't working until I pushed it in and moved it (the housing); then it came on and was fine. I'm guessing there might be some road grime up in there wreaking havoc on the connection. I had already mounted the tag and didn't feel like doing all of that work. I couldn't get it to go back out, but it would get brighter, brighter than the other side, if I pushed more on it. I sure hope its not flickering going down the road like a typical Memphis Ghetto Sled. I'll give it a week and check on it again.

Forgot to add that one of the studs slipped out while I was leaning on it with two wrenches to tighten or loose the double nuts. My lower lip hit the fender and I got a tiny cut on the outside above my chin and a medium cut inside from my teeth. Stopped by dentist yesterday since I was in area, she looked at it and said it should heal in a week. In the meantime, avoid spicy foods.
So it's not just what did I do to my BMW, but what did my BMW do to me!

So.....does anyone know what would cause the DSC, "BRAKE," and tire pressure lights to all come on at the same time? They're yellow, not red, so it's not immediate danger (nothing is broken I presume). Got the car back today after flushing the transmission, differential oil, replacing shock mounts, rear brake pads, maxed negative camber in the rear, a little in the front, and installing the Koni Yellows with H&R springs.
My guess is that ABS is disabled for the worst case scenario (why?) or maybe a dirty sensor?

I installed a new ZHP shift knob. I was surprised at how much lighter the old ZHP knob was; I'll have to weigh it on the kitchen scale when I get home from work in the morning.
Addendum 5/25/14: it turns out the old ZHP shifter knob weighs only 2.875 oz., or just over half of what the new one weighs. Odd that!

As for me, yesterday and the day before I spent completing a DIY Inspection II: fuel filter (Mahle), coolant (BMW blue), engine oil (BMW 5W-30) and filter (Mahle), 6MT (Redline MTL), and diff fluid (Redline 75W90) all changed. Only fluids left untouched were washer fluid (just topped off a month ago) and power steering (plan to turkey baster it a few times over the next few weeks). :roundel

I just swapped my stiffer springs (525/650 lbs/inch) back in for Saturday's track day. At my last track day, an instructor rode with me for a session with my race wheels on the car and dry track and said their grip was overpowering my regular suspension (440/550). Also last night got a P0340 code or something like that suggesting malfunction of the intake cam position sensor. Not sure if fluke or not. Cleared it last night, drove to and from work today and code didn't come back.

I've dealt with this one - it can be misleading as it can also be triggered by bad VANOS seals. If yours have been upgraded to the Beisan ones, then your sensor is going. I ended up replacing mine when the code started coming up every 150 miles of driving or so, it only cost like $40 for OEM so it was cheap insurance.
On my side, I serviced my sunroof preventatively yesterday night - replaced all 4 clips and greased the tracks. Very easy DIY, took me 40 mins and the car was back together.

Where is this sensor located? What is the P/N? If required for PM to replace after Beisan, then I also need to replace the sensor. No codes yet. Vanos was replaced approx. 3 years ago. Knock, knock.

PN # 12147539165 for intake, # 12147518628 for exhaust. Need an o-ring for each, # 12141748398. Both sensors are installed on the VANOS unit, near their respective cams - it's a very easy replacement.

Alex, thanks. I did the Beisan seals 2 or 3 years ago so suspect sensor is going. Good to hear it can throw an error intermittently. I saw a DIY video last night showing the exhaust CPS can be replaced without removing anything else, while the intake CPS can be replaced by removing the oil filter cap, disconnecting one end of VANOS oil line, and VANOS intake solenoid.
I think the sensors I ordered include O-rings.
Edit: Also have to disconnect top end of VC-to-CCV hose and need 5mm hex socket to remove and reinstall bolt holding CPS in place. But I just watched a YouTube video on replacing intake CPS on an E39 530 with M54 engine. He was able to do it without disconnecting VANOS oil line.

I know right?!?! Well.....recently I've been having my oldest son work on the Subaru he drives....had him do his own oil change without me there. It actually worked quite well because even though he's done plenty of them with me, he'd never tackled it all on his own. It allowed him to ponder and go about it as he best could figure. In the end, it was hard stepping back to have him do it solo but at the same time he learned a lot from it!
Now, back to my zhp....I am awaiting some M3 TAB's and limiters from ECS tuning. I know it's been discussed in other threads but just so I understand correctly, pressing the TAB's back into the trailing arm is not just a matter of having the right press but knowing exactly how to position the bushing so that it sits in the proper position relative to the arm....is it not possible to note the position of the old bushing and simply put the new ones back in the same position or am I missing something?

Oooo that looks nice! I need to thicken my pipes up too....it looks like the car's stock exhaust tips are malnourished and need some muscle on them. LOL

What do you guys/gals think? Car is mainly black/tiag themed so was going to go with black muffler tips similar to a dinan setup.
I'm looking to go to a 3" tip for a little something extra without going to 3.25" like the eisenmann.

That's just a piece of 3" stainless I painted black.
I'm going to use some aluminized steel painted black. If something happens no biggie ($12 for all 4). They'll be welded or maybe riveted to the old connecter piece if the shop makes a reducer.

Currently dropping my rear subframe to replace my rear sway bar from a 12mm to a 19mm 2-way adjustable.
Currently have the subframe dropped and the bar unbolted. Just need to route it out and bolt everything up

Had to air up the LR tire on the sedan before we left as it was at 28psi. Came back from vacation (12 days) and it was back down to 30psi. Took it to our favorite tire place and had them check it out. Found a pinhole leak in the rim about in the center. They JBWeld'ed it and should be good to go. We had these rims refurbished two months ago, so no idea what it is going on with them. Tire place also confirmed my suspicion on the right front. Slight warped rotor or high spot. Ordered both fronts and replaced this afternoon. Pads only had 20k miles on them with plenty of life left, so just kept them. Running smoothly again after fighting front issues since we had the tires replaced when we did the wheels. Seems the Toyo's have a lot less forgiveness when it comes to hiding suspension/bearing issues. Finally glad to have the wife not nagging me that her car is not "right". She can feel any issue wrong with that car.........
Sonax poly net shield on the hood and fenders. This evening the rest of the car.

Jakksfor20, I think I saw your black sedan going up Sanders road recently...either that or it was another zhp in our neck of the woods!

We've been gone for 2 weeks, so it may not have been us. We take that way sometimes to got to Marketplace. Never been much farther than that on Sanders.

Yesterday I installed my headers...what a laborious job. Would not have the money to pay someone to struggle with that job.
Today I fixed my fitment issue for the Bank 1 system. Everything is sounding good!!
