Sweet! It's simple. When you remove the old one make sure that in the holes for the clips to go into there aren't any white pegs in them. The holes need to be well holes...

Well crap. How do I get the white clips out???

EDIT: needle nose pliers did it. So got them all out. One of the broke and fell to the bottom of the blower motor compartment. Does that go out of the car? Anything to worry about?

No kidding. New one is one but it doesn't seem "tight". I am pushing down pretty hard up ad down it and the new clips don't seem to be "clipping" in.

Edit. Spoke too soon. I was pushing on wrong part. Push on the top half of it.

If it's secured properly it should not lift at all. My old one would lift without effort!

Ok all done. Took twice as long as it should have because I am always afraid I am doing something wrong. I looked at the lock nuts for over 5 minutes because they were not going back flush into the wiper arms. Oh well. The arms are torqued back to spec so I don't think they are going anywhere.

From the guide:

"Only synthetic oil should be used in BMW manual gearboxes, drain interval 30,000
miles.

BMW-specified factory synthetic gearbox oil is MTF-LT-2 available at the dealer, and
the spec often changes. It is a good product; I just wouldn’t leave it in service forever.

Red Line products are also widely used and preferred (www.redlineoil.com).

All the BMW gearbox rebuilders I know use Red Line MTL exclusively, regardless of
model year or gearbox. The general consensus seems to be that MTL is the better
lubricant. I do not use ATF in any manual gearbox.

Red Line MT-90 as slightly higher viscosity than their MTL product, which can be useful
in reducing gearbox rattle, which can occur in neutral with the clutch pedal out in
vehicles that do not have dual mass flywheels. The rattle does not affect gearbox
function." (Copyright © 2013 by Drive Wheels, LLC, all rights reserved.)

Like I said, ignore my comment about mixing MTL and 75/90. It only applies to gearboxes from 30+ years ago that have more fragile syncro's. There are only a few of us on here that own cars with those boxes

30k being a requirement is excessive for changes, IMO. With today's lubricating technologies, the oil should last longer than that. 60k is the interval I remember being recommended by the Old School schedule; will have to see if that's the case with the documentation I had.

Granted, more frequent changes can't hurt (other than the wallet), I'm just hoping it's not necessary. I've always done 60k on my cars and have been just fine (and I drive a LOT of miles).

The older version I had seen said that BP, I emailed Mike a couple weeks ago asking him for his latest copy and that had been changed. I would think anywhere between that range would be fine as I agree with the improvement in tech.

I cleaned and polished my Performance strut bar this evening....getting ready to put it away until I source my 3rd BMW sometime in the future :)

Some 3M compound, elbow grease, and polish afterwards and you would think this strut bar was never used :) if you haven't figured it out by now.... I really love this part ;)

Had a low coolant light come on after I made it to LA in the RRS. Checked the engine bay and it was smoking and fluid everywhere. I took off the beauty cover and found this bad boy. It was an air valve inline after the thermostat that cracked after years of heat.

13871

Quick run to the dealer and about 30 minutes and it's back on the road. Had to bleed the system a bit to ensure I had the air bubbles out. If I hadn't done the cooling system refresh on the zhp I might have been stumped with this one.

It's not hard, you can do it now. Just pull your rear seat up and remove as much of it as possible. Make sure you have a vacuum as it will fall apart

Monet was having a hard time starting up last night. Jumped her, alternator was fine, battery (edit)DIDN'T seem to retain charge, so I figured it was a parasitic draw.

Around midnight she had 12.54 volts while off. 14.2ish on. Around noon today, she was at 10.xx.

PO claimed that the glove box locking mechanism was broken by a potential buyer (when I was doing my inspection), and I never had tried to open it - I opened it today and pulled each fuse one by one. I had a constant 20mA current. PO also claimed that the battery was fairly new and he seemed like a fairly honest guy so I took his word. Well, the battery is done (not saying he wasn't honest, but I didn't find any documentation on a new battery). Good thing I had just picked one up back in July for the 325. BTW, I have a vert, aren't they supposed to be different?

Anyway, I hadn't driven the 325 in a month or so - I forgot how different it feels!

On Saturday did the TRS retrofit to my one ZKW headlight with the burnt bowl. Will post before and after pictures in the DIY thread on this. Now I think there are 5 projects left on my to-do list

1) Replace water pipe and heater pipe; one is leaking slowly, not sure which one. Requires removing intake manifold.
2) Oil pan gasket and VAC oil pan baffle. Requires buying HF engine support and taking pan to shop for welding
3) Rear subframe bushings replacement and possibly epoxy on reinforcement kit.
4) Get a Coby steering wheel cover stitched on
5) Replace old (from 2011) 75mm wheel studs with new 84mm wheel studs

Edit: I already bought the two plastic cooling pipes, intake manifold gasket, oil pan gasket, oil level sensor gasket, oil pan baffle, 84mm wheel studs (with new lug nuts), and subframe bushings, but I don't have a subframe reinforcement kit or the special epoxy.

I'm an idiot... I hit the gym again for the first time in months, so my arms are sore as hell on the way back home. I'm in 6th gear going down a gradual decline and decide to downshift into 4th gear. Well, my hand coordination isn't the greatest because of aforementioned soreness and I somehow catch 2nd instead. Never been so afraid in a long time. Technically I didn't money shift it, so I think it's all fine.

Eric,

I don't sweat about getting a proper tool that you will never need again. I was doing my fan delete and spent half a day chasing the tool around town, with no success. The truth is, you don't need it. My neighbor has an older 318 and he saw me messing about with my fan in frustration; so he went over to his garage and brought back a big adjustable wrench and a very long flat-head screw driver. It took me 2 minutes to find the right angle to wedge the screw driver against the bolt heads and it came off with ease. It's not on tight and it doesn't have to be. I'm sure you know it already but just in case I'll mention that it is reverse thread.

Argh, after a few weeks of working, my windshield washer reservoir has again leaked nearly dry. I had sealed the weep hole in the pump with lo-temp hot melt glue. My theory is with the hot weather last few days (91F+ ambient plus engine heat under the hood) it melted the glue out, but need to pull the reservoir and pump to verify. New pump is only $20 or so ($26 with grommet & filter basket), but I thought it was the perfect hack mechanic fix. If it melted, I'll try epoxy this time then buy a new one.

I performed the outer ring LED tail light mod and remote connector for angle eyes on my friend's ///M today and BP performed his coding magic on my friend's and my ///M...

After spending the day in the sun baking...I got myself a margarita to drink! ;)

I glued my sagging trim back together and installed new wiper inserts. My car is already falling apart. LOL.

One no salt please. Switched to c/f paddle shifters. Bought a pair a long time ago that didn't fit. JP found these on craigslist and gave me a heads up. Thx JP. Poor lighting n cell phone doesn't make for the best pics. Really like 'em though.

As long as we are not just 'rehashing the bashing', this could and should be a useful thread.
