Put in the med box under the drivers seat. PITA due to the position you have to go in to get it in. I like it. Might put one in on the passenger side.

13538

Also sprayed the car down really good with the garden hose, poured water down the sunroof channels, and even took down the corner of the headliner and examined the sunroof drains looking for the reason why my passenger side footwell was wet one day. Nothing appeared to be amiss. The inside stayed dry as a bone. The sunroof drain and vapor barrier worked ok.

Guess I'll try to soak it down at a touchless car wash and see if I can recreate it.

Was cleaning the Mahle's when I realized something great...

13539

my springs assume I still have AC and a US bumper installed, therefore when I swap in the M52 alloy it will make up the difference of what I deleted and I should have a good weight balance plus I will get rid of some of this gap!

I ordered it through my local Napa parts store. They had it shipped in from a warehouse and reserved it for me. Total was just under $15 w/ tax.

I did find the filter to be a bit of a PITA to get back in. I had to squeeze the plastic housing piece with a good amount of force to get the screw holes to realign. not too bad though. definitely worth the $$$ savings over the OE part. Plus, the filter that was in there was dirrrrty. Had it in there for almost exactly 15k miles. It's time was up.

Drove one in Germany (before taking a M135i to the autobahn). Torquey but electric drivetrain definitely takes some time to get used to. And it's too silent :( I don't get why they have to make them look so obnoxious and weird. Why can't they do like Tesla and make a good-looking car ? Stuff an electric drivetrain into an F30 ?

Tnhl1989

Tnhl1989
04-24-2014, 11:58 PM
If he was talking about the wheels, I was not. I was talking about the brakes!

Haha people use brakes? Actually that's one of things about electric cars. It's suppose to really only use the accelerator pedal and that's it. No real braking since it uses the momentum to recharge the battery when you let your foot off the accelerator pedal. It's really like driving a golf kart in reality with more power and environmentally friendly. Test drives later today :)

So they made it ugly? :(

They could've made the design anyway they like it really. It kinda grew on me as I see it in person and see how things actually makes sense. Again the car isn't for everyone which is really what it's meant to be. Some people don't like it and seems like most EV people love it. Conventionally electric cars on the market is just taking a existing design and removing the engine and replacing it with an battery operated engine. The iBrand really is interesting and eco friendly down to the core. Design is really in the eyes of the viewer and I can say I love the interior. The exterior isn't a big selling point but who cares really? To me I'll consider this as my dd over my ZHP.

What kind of paint did you use? As per photo, they look like kinda flat. Could be the camera and lighting. What type do you think you should use to make them glossier? As is shiny black?

I used these and yes it came out much flatter than I wanted I was going for a glossy look. I probably should have used a different black paint but my hardware store didn't have a large selection and this is what they suggested.

Tony... Those new car pics are awesome, except the X4, it looks terrible in that pic. Although the current X3 and X4 are both HUGELY improved with a wider/less offset set of wheels.

My car is very different very quickly. Had to get rid of the spacers due to the H&R kit and scraping/bottoming out. Next I had to get rid of the TSE3 exhaust due to it conflicting with the traction bar on my vert. All of a sudden it's a completely different car. A little too nice. Gonna get a Magnaflow and see how the fitment goes so I can rough it up a little bit. Not sure about the spacers, I think I'm SOL due to my setup. Also, getting closer to going square on the wheels.

Did your car not have heated seats? Call me crazy but I would love to have heated REAR seats although I bet my car has less than 5,000 miles (of the 124,500) with someone in the back seat other than my dog. She would have enjoyed them though.

Fcabs and steering shaft coupler replaced and engine degreased.

Always surprising how much sharper refreshed Fcabs really make the car feel. Only had time for a short drive, but the AKG Fcabs (89A) feel very similar to stock, no classic poly harshness.

The steering coupler was a real pita to get off the steering rack splines.

Next up, belts and pulleys.

Happened a while ago but a local company was looking for an E46 coupe to be their guinea pig for a new set of coilovers that they were about to release. My friend knew the guy (manager or some other official position) on FB and tagged me in his post - I was the first to respond and we both thought they'd pick me since I was first and had dabbled with mods except suspension.

As expected, other people chimed in wanting in on the opportunity and as usual of the car scene, the manager ends up choosing a girl's E46. Which wasn't modded at all, looked stock and didn't appear to be an enthusiast. There were also other stock E46s too and their owners replied before the girl too but I've seen this happen too many times with car-related things so it's no coincidence.

Anyways....met another manager who seemed to be higher-up than the last at my work, and he offered to sell them to me for $650 which is about $100 off the retail price. For coilovers that are less than a grand and are about the same price as Koni Yellows, it seems like a good deal since they've been tested on cars at the track (Buttonwillow and Willow Springs) and other forums for the other cars that had them generally had good reviews.

TSE3 doesn't really fit the vert. They modified a traction brace to get it to fit, but I wanted that back to the way it should be, so I had to get rid of it. (Besides, the wife thought it was too loud anyway, lol). I've heard the Magnaflow can fit the vert better with a little effort, so we'll see. Either that, or I'll just put the rear muffler piece on and stick with the OEM pipes, etc.

$85 per wheel. As far as I can tell, they started with a whole wheel (no rubbers) wash. Then they took them inside their main shop. Unfortunately, I was not allowed to witness their procedure. I would guess it's more liability issues. So, I left them alone and stayed outside to brush anti-seize on all mating parts and bolts. And I departed to go back to work and picked up the car at noon time. I'd say again that the rattle & wobble I always heard on and off before is now gone. Car really feels so different with straight wheels.

Nice, I'll definitely stop in to have a few wheels checked.

This is what I'm up to tonight

Unfortunately the E46 dead pedal is too big. Also, I have no idea about what to do for the parking brake

Put hot melt glue on the weep hole of my windshield washer pump, which was leaking. Hopefully that will stop my loss of wiper fluid and spare me having to buy a new pump (which is only $20, but still...). I just hope sealing the weep hole doesn't make the pump catch on fire or something.

This is another reason I don't want to install headers. I can't imagine it being fun unless you have a lift.

Rewarding sure, but something I'd like to do more than once...nah.

Had a shop swap resonator and straight pipes for the section 1 so I can test rasp vs no rasp.

Also did the fuel filter diy. Super simple on the M3 and no gas flying everywhere. However once I took off the filter I spilled gas all over and couldn't catch it because of my position so I ended up laying in a pool of gasoline. I'm not sure that smell is going away anytime soon.

Hermes
04-30-2014, 09:38 PM
Why not cut out the resonator and H-pipe and weld in a straight pipe on the outer one and X-pipe in place of H?

Pip
04-30-2014, 10:04 PM
Yea I've been thinking of that. I'll take it one at a time for now. I got a good deal on the section 1 and am looking into finding an x pipe or fabricating a x pipe like you've described. Seems like this would give me a slight increase in volume without drone. I really don't mind the stock exhaust but it is pretty darn quiet.

Speaking of exhaust...I was on my way to work southbound I-15 this dark morning. A tricked out Silver debadged E46 Coupe with very hard window and loud exhaust pulled right beside me with darkened tail lights and trunk painted black. I think he wants to race. But after a few seconds, he decided to punch it and I saw his mufflers hanging. Looks really like aftermarkets. The E46 ZHP wannabe did a quick exit to Miramar Rd. Those mufflers sound real ugly.

Finally put the AFE Stage 1 on. Easy install and sounds great. Maybe wishful thinking/projecting but it feels quicker off the line.

I attempted to put yellow fogs on but for the life of me could not get the stock bulbs to fit in the new housings. I threw in the towel and ordered yellow bulbs. Only paid about 30 for the yellow housings so no big loss and lesson learned.

Also put the Turner strut brace on. Again maybe wishful thinking put the cowl shake doesn't seem as bad.

Nice Charlie!!!

Today I replaced my stock rear shocks with some Koni Yellows. After reading Smolck's review on these I set them at 1/2 turn from full soft untill they break in then I will set them around 3/4-1 turn. My stock shocks were bad to say the least. My drivers rear doesn't rebound at all when compressed and the drivers side rebounds but at a turtles pace.
