If you are ever on Fulton Ave, spot the shop "Auto Heaven." Those are the guys that are hooking me up with coilovers. Awesome shop. They build wicked E30s and give out free stickers and such. Great for getting work done to the car, too.

Knowledgable enough on e46 for a header install? I've been thinking about doing it myself or possibly getting a shop to do it since I'm not sure I want to spend so much time on my back.

Went to a local CCA meeting last night, met another new ZHP owner. He has posted on here, but I can't recall his screen name. Great looking car though, and a good guy... Typical of Mafia family. :thumbsup

They were powder coated black when I bought them from a guy running them on his E46 M3. I didn't like the look so I tried gold metallic plastidip last year and didn't like that either. I really like the way the gunmetal gray turned out this season. Shoot, I can't find a picture of them mounted on the car. Sorry.

Here is the car with black ones on:

What she did isn't cool, but this above is way less cool... For all we know, that person could've had children in the car to deal with getting out, or perhaps some sort of neck injury that prevented them from looking over their shoulder to verify a good parking job... And no, they're not really excuses, but trying to get 2 kids in and out of cars all of the time, I try to have a little patience... Defacing someone else's car over an incident is uncalled for, no matter what...

Well first off I was kidding about the keying, I'm not a dick.

However this is an underground lot in an office building next door to where I live and to my knowledge I'm the only non tenant who pays to park there, the rest are employees of the small businesses. No moms with kids parking here just inconsiderate idiots. It's also not the first time they've gotten too close to my car, this is a daily occurrence but just at different degrees. I've mentioned it before but didn't want to come off as the over protective douchebag BMW owner so I was gentle. Not anymore, she's getting a letter that says it shoulda been her car I hit when I pulled out because of her ass hat parking job (mind you my car was there already when she parked) but I tried to squeeze on the other side and didn't make it because I was so concerned with not hitting her car.

She keeps it up and I'm calling AAA to come tow her shit out of my way.

Decided to sell the headers and also the style 135s. Refinishing the one or two wheels that have slight curb rash, then selling, combined with the sale of the headers is enough for an Eisenmann exhaust, muffler only.

But the tax return should cover the straight pipes and cost of installation. :)

Currently, they're still resting in the bags/boxes that the Avant Gardes came in:

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Last night I replaced the CCV, along with oil dipstick o-ring, throttle body gasket, and cleaned the throttle body and IACV. What a PITA! Removing all the parts to get to the CCV was just lots of work, but the hoses were stuck on, and the release rings are hard to reach, and getting the new manifold hose in place (the one that twists on) was really, really hard. Once that was on, it was just work putting everything back together, but I was tired and made some mistakes.

Dropped 3 bolts/nuts, one bit and a wrench into engine bay, plus dropped a light 3 times. Fished wrench out with magnetic pick-up, light with hands, but had to remove plastic undertray to get other pieces back.
Forgot to unclip fuel purge valve from its hanger until after struggling with removing old CCV for a while.
Put new VC tube on backwards (upside down)! Disconnecting it from DISA was very difficult, at least 25 extra minutes wasted on that, before putting it back on right-way up.
Forgot to install cabin air filter last night. Noticed is sitting in garage this morning.

After all that work, I didn't find anything obviously wrong with the old DISA. No broken hoses--except what I broke on the ends removing them. No oil leaks. No clogged drain tube or dip stick. The insulation on the old intake manifold equalizer tube was very brittle and broke up, but not the tube itself. I guess I could have waited on the CCV for a while longer.

He poked around under the hood with a flashlight.
Checked the gas cap.
Started the car and revved it up to prob 4k rpm.
Plugged in the OBD.

Our X5 has the V8 in it. The angle of the V, the cramped engine compartment and the belly pan make it virtually impossible to see the exhaust at all. I think revving the motor was his OEM exhaust check and if it didn't sound right he probably would have investigated further.

E46 is a different story. You can easilly see the exhaust manifold and the first cat so I would think almost every tech would recognize if it's OEM or not.

Yeah, amongst a various oil leaks and gaskets leaking, $6500 to fix or swap in a new motor for $1800 (labor only, I source the engine or they get it for another 1800).

Expensive route but I trust this shop, its very good. Performance Technic in Pleasanton.

So My dad listed it the same night and we sold it the next morning to a local repair shop. He wanted a project car and was very familiar with BMW's so its okay..

Another method would be to place a block of wood right under the expansion tank after draining the tank and get a rubber mallet. One hard rap would knock the expansion out of its rails.

Replaced 3 out of 4 control-arm bushings/ball-joints on right rear. Removing lower control arm on right side is easy. On left, looks like exhaust or diff may be is in the way, and I ran out of time to do the left. My first time using threaded rod and washers to remove/installed bushings. Took some trial and error to find the right sockets and cups. Had to bend the brake dust shield in two areas to make room for home made Home Depot bushing installer/de-installer. Upgraded lower outer bushing to ball joint (same used for upper outer). Didn't remove upper control arm--looks like that will be a lot easier when I remove the diff.

Also put back the 650 lb/in springs and re-bled the rear brakes, which seemed to have some air in them after changing brake lines and rebuilding calipers a few weeks ago. Strangely the hardest part was re-attaching the rear swaybar end-link to the upper control arm. Bolts just didn't want to line up.

After all that, I concluded my existing bushings were in decent shape and this probably could have waited a year or two. But it was an education on how the rear suspension works and how to use a home-made bushing tool.

On the way back from school, a black Challenger was zooming past with a black F13 650i behind it and a Lime Green E92 M3 trying to get in front of both of them.

I wasn't going to even bother til I noticed the Lime Green E92 - it's actually green. The Lime Rock edition E92 M3 is orange, and while there's 200 built or something, I've seen a few of them (different cars/owners) around the area. But this was the first time I saw the Lime Green one, which is rarer than the Lime Rock.

Wow, apparently I haven't been on here in nearly a week. Lots of catching up to do, lots of good stuff.

Fueled the car yesterday ($3.75/gal for 93 octane, luckily $0.30 off at Kroger), still, ugh. Also rinsed her off at a car wash, no time to hand wash and I had some bird poo to remove. Seems like bird poo stains my clear coat so easily, the stain(s) go away eventually, but it seems to take forever. I only have about 36 hours to remove any that gets on it or I'll be regretting it for awhile.

Now she's in the garage enjoying a Tuesday off.

Why is that? Dual mirrors was still technically an option back then. Also, I'm already used to it since the 02 doesn't have one

If you're gonna do a mirror delete, then you might as well delete both mirrors. All or nothing!
I'm fairly certain that I've never seen an E21 with a single mirror that was destined for the United States market, so I'm thinking that side mirror option was an option in other parts of the world. If you truly want to go Euro then I would highly recommend euro bumpers; there's no other way to do it. :thumbsup

It actually was available in this market, there's a guy on the forum that has an US spec 1981 with only 1 electric mirror. It is one of those options like sunroof that was almost always ordered by BMW NA. I might just order the drivers side one too.

I just need to fabricate the adapter brackets for the rear, then cut a slit in the core support and drill some holes in the frame rail for the front bumper bracket bolts as it mounts different on euro cars.

I asume "CFHD" means carbon fibre, high-definition something, but what? :-)

I got a used Driver's side 5 pt. Sparco harness for E46 Sedan. Do you want it? It needs to go to a good home that will use them. I'm done with my HPDE days. Let me know.

In a round about way, I sourced a newer suspension for the wife's sedan. Scored a PSS kit (no 9, 10, whatever they are up to) on e46f for a heck of a deal. I'll end up taking the H&R races and Bilstein sports off my 323 and trading for H&R sports, then swapping that onto the sedan. PSS will go on my car.

Did the unthinkable earlier today and parked in between two "unknowns" - two cars (not fellow employees' cars) in the public parking lot outside of work.
The ZHP sat there in the same spot for almost 12 hours straight - being a high traffic area/plaza, there was undoubtedly a high number of cars that came, left, and repeat. All that translates to for me is = chances of getting dinged x^99999999%.

Didn't check for dings. Kind of dreading tomorrow since it's pretty much a guarantee that there's at least one since most families that come into my work don't teach their kids not to kick the doors open or not to swing it when going in.

Aren't you glad you finally did this? :)

Absolutely!

I kept putting it off as I wanted to take the pedals out of the car to install the new pads as I wanted to cut the screws to the proper length. I'm kind of anal like that lol.

I just got the new clutch pedal a few weeks ago so it was the perfect time chance to do it all at once. The clutch now sits about an inch closer to the floor and there is no excess travel whatsoever. It starts disengaging as soon as it comes off the floor and and starts engaging as soon as you push it down. Will take some getting used to but feels so much more precise.

William, those look great! I def considered those when I got mine. Love how the look against the black. Did you "glue on" or drill in the deal pedal? I see it's a little short of the full dead pedal, and knowing you I fig'd you'd be aware of that.

Yeah the height of the dead pedal is not ideal and it does annoy me but you can't see that high up under the dash while sitting in the car so it will have to do. I actually mounted it even with the carpet instead of the floor to minimize the gap at the top.

Fig'd you made a conscious decision on that pedal. As far as the text, it was a PDF diagram that actually had a pic of that traction brace pictured underneath the car. Hmmm, maybe that's why I couldn't find it, as it was a post on here? I'll check my project thread. EDIT: Nope, not there. EDIT: could not find it on here with multiple searches. Thought it might be in that CDV PDF doc talking about traction, but it wasn't.

I know. That's strange, as my deal pedal is the right size. Guess it depends on brand, model. you can't see the top of mine but it's closer to the top. But as William said, the good thing is you can't see it so it's not a show stopper.

I've had pebbles get stuck between brake rotor shield and rotor, making funny scraping noises. Sometimes going into reverse clears it out. Sometimes I push the shield back (inward) with a socket extension and the pebble falls out. But this is only if you get noise while rolling slowly, not for noise when applying brakes.

Nothing today but...

Wednesday night: Drop exhaust and diff, fight for hours with rear diff bushing, whose shell got welded to subframe in 2 spots in a previous subframe repair
Thursday night remove all four control arms, learned to use hydraulic press, replaced 5 bushings and ball joints (3 replaced previously in driveway). Bent and wrecked some threaded rod and 1/2" bolts.
Friday, took day off from work. Lowered subframe 1" to inspect--Ran out of time to remove subframe and replace bushings. Put car back together.
Friday afternoon, go to urgent care for sick child. Doctor says it's a normal cold or flu, no worries for me but lots of worries for my wife.
Friday night drive to race track.
Saturday and Sunday: Drive with Porsche club at Thunderhill, some sessions in rain.
Monday: Back to work!

Best news: No visible cracks around subframe mounting points.

Hardest part: removing rear diff bushing. My Home Depot puller popped the rubber core out easily, but the shell was stuck in really good with two spot welds. I started cutting it from inside with recip saw, but broke my one blade and had left other blades and hacksaw at home. Went to work with pneumatic die grinder, hammer and chisel, like a dwarven smith from Lord of the Rings (except he also used fire and didn't work on BMWs)

2nd hardest : getting rear swaybar back in correctly, specifically the links didn't want to bolt up to the upper control arms.

Most tedious part was loosening and tightening the half-shaft torx bolts. Tighten two, release hand brake, rotate half-shaft, set hand-brake, tighten two, repeat. Then other side. Then driveshaft.

Dumbest move: Upon reinstall, bolted diff fully in place before reconnecting driveshaft. Then it didn't want to fit even after dropping the CSB! Had to loosen diff and lower subframe a little to squeeze it back in.

Biggest disappointment: Running out of time to drop subframe. If I'd just disconnected e-brake cables and and wheel speed/brake sensor wires, then hung the brake calipers out of the way, I probably could have lowered the whole subframe on Wednesday night then removed the rear diff bushing much more easily and replaced my subframe bushings in the same total amount of garage time.

Upgrade: Replaced outer lower bushings with ball joints, M3 style. Diff bushings are now AKG 95A poly.

Tool save: Cross-threaded left lower control arm bolt. Garage had a thread restorer kit (almost like tap and die). Removed bad threads on bolt with triangular file, then used thread restorer and all fixed.

Hindsight is 20-20: Rear control arm bushings and ball joints were in pretty good shape. Not sure any of them really needed replacement. Glad I learned how to take it apart and do it, but on a cost/benefit basis it was a bad move (whereas rear diff bushing was cracked and needed replacement).

I ordered new wiper blades and tie rods for the wagon. Should be set for awhile, I'm just going to enjoy it as it should be perfect or near perfect at that point.

Friday, I plan to head to tire ship and re- balance front wheels. Next week, do tie rods and get the car aligned. Install OEM E46 M3 xenon ballast cover, clean ICV and clean TB.

Might head to body shop next week and respray rear bumper too but idk, thats a lot to do. LOL

That is right! But while there is only one CCA chapter in the Bay Area (plus less active chapters in Sacramento and Central California), there are 3 or 4 PCA regions in the Bay area: Loma Prieta (Santa Cruz/Monterey), Golden Gate, Redwood (North Bay), and Diablo (East Bay). Golden Gate autocrosses at the former Alameda naval airport while Loma Prieta goes to Marina Airport.

Not sure how the different PCA regions welcome non-members to AutoX. I heard Loma Prieta is fairly friendly with the CCA chapter but Golden Gate might be less welcoming for AutoX, even if they allow non-members for track days. Either way they give priority to PCA members first.

PCA huh? Which chapter? PCA autocrosses at the same place as my club (Santa Rosa/ Sonoma County Airport.). I'll have to see if they're open to non-Porsches doing autox with them

Since yesterday was Happy 330 day, I thought I should post this. I know it's on the site somewhere but not sure.

Adjusted my parking brake last night. Handle is back down where it should be and car holds solid even on hills.

I want to do this for the e21 but the threads on the cables are stripped by the handle... I don't want to buy new ones since I will have to change them anyways if I go to rear disc :(

Likewise, I can always feel my car float to one side as if one e-brake is holding better than the other. Of course, one of them has started to stick too... I suppose I should just get in there and replace everything and then adjust from new. :)

Two ideas come to mind. You should be able to back the nut off to the end of threaded section, pull the cable taught with some pliers, eyeball the gap and then get either a dowel to take up the space or replace the nut with a threaded coupling long enough to take up the space.

Steel dowel:

Threaded coupler:

Either you can find at your local hardware store.

I had a similar issue. Just got some penetrating lubricant and did the adjustment. That fixed the issue and now the car squats evenly on both sides when the parking brake is pulled.

Today I bought some BMW approved blinker fluid. I should be good to go for a while now. I highly recommend bleeding the fluid every year. Happy 4/1

Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkGuess you already have the compressor with special ZHP air in it. I used to have to take mine in every 6 months or so to get it refilled at the parts counter. :)
