Put in some New NGK Plugs today to replace the Bosch +4's ( 1 year 6k miles) in which I was getting poor performance from. Compared to the Bosch, the NGK has a larger electrode and wider prongs. I do feel that my performance has improved with the NGKs!
Excellent work. NGK are much better.

Filled her up with some 93 then went to the movies, where there was a mustang meet in the parking lot and I parked right next to them. They asked about it and thought it was pretty cool. In case you guys don't know , I'm a pretty big ford fan also with my dad having a big collection of classic mustangs.

Ford is the shiznit. I love the GT500 and the GT40. Newjack (Rob) is also a huge Ford guy.
2002 Ford Excursion with 280k miles sitting outside my house right now. Goodness, I love hitting boost on the 7.3. Ugh.

Not really today but more like the last 3 weeks:
Oil change @7250 sent to Blackstone with a bill of good health:
"Amended for time on the oil. Universal averages show typical wear for the BMW M54B30 after
about 6,500 miles on the oil. After 7,000 miles on this fill, wear metals look fantastic. They were equal to or
below average, so we doubt your engine's internal parts are wearing poorly. The viscosity was on the mark
for a 0W/40 grade oil. Your sampling technique worked well since we didn't find any measurable fuel in this
sample. Taking it cold could give a false positive. The TBN was good at 3.1 since 1.0 or less is low. Check
back to establish wear trends for your BMW."
I made it to the 100K club.

I can't believe this is still up - this was the video the previous owner made to advertise the car! She worked at Brecht BMW and her brother is a BMW Master Technician. That was one of the reasons why I was so willing to jump the gun and buy it, although it was grey leather, auto, had license plate holes. (Stuff I didn't want)
Looking back though I'm glad I bought it.

Took the wifes ZHP and got the Virginia Inspection on it. Was able to look underneath the car while it was on the lift. Everything checked out and the undercarriage of the car is in great shape.

My sister totaled her 9 year old 1-owner (herself) Jetta last month. All it took was looking down for a second at the wrong time (when traffic stopped abruptly). Luckily no one was injured and the lady that she rear ended (Honda Element) lives on the same island we do (I'm in a house, she is in an apartment), so the lady even drove her home. Honda sustained $300 in damage, lol.
So we've been looking for an array of replacement vehicles, from ZHP's, to X3's, to another Jetta, new Jetta, 128i, 135i, e92 328i and ended up with a LOADED e93 328i.
So I guess the ZHP got a younger sibling today!

I'm just getting ready to install some Birch trim into the car. Swapping out the silver cubes (originally had black cubes). Man, does this birch trim look AMAZING. I was blown away. It's really high gloss and appears almost brand new. 9.9 except for one scratch (on dash piece) and one crack (one gear lever). All other pieces are flawless without any broken tabs too.
I got the trim from my bro's connection in Germany. He bought the darker Birch anthracite and I opted for the light birch so both of us now have individual trims in our BMW's! PM me for prices but we got both for much less than retail... Hell, I considered it way too good of a deal to pass up!
Since I have a manual car, I'm selling the steering wheel trim and auto gear lever too. The steering wheel trim is flawless:

There's a guy in Germany who likes helping enthusiasts perfect their rides. He only seeks a measly $20 (or euro... can't remember) commission fee (there's light birch steering wheel trim on ebay - I paid less than that on my WHOLE set and shipping!). It sometimes take months for him to source/find them, but my bro and I were lucky since he had opportunities to get both to us in less than a week from Germany.

I may be a bit anal.
Today I cleaned out the garage with the leaf blower (ZHP parked down the street), then vacuumed all the dirt in the grooves of the concrete in the garage so my new ZHP won't get any dust or sit on any dirt at night. Then I pressure washed the drive way including any dirt and gunk in all the grooves so my ZHP doesn't need to drive over that crap to get to the garage.
Tomorrow I get to clean my wife's Tahoe so my ZHP doesn't have to look at the disgrace that it is... finger prints on every surface, treating it like a mobile coat closet. Despicable.

Car is on jack stands, all wheels off, disassembly has begun. The project?? Brakes...
I ordered a full Turner Motorsport package recently...
StopTech Cross Drilled rotors
StopTech SS lines
StopTech street performance pads
New sensors
ATE Type 200 fluid
new front calipers
TMS brass caliper guide bushings
I will also be painting the calipers black to give them a clean look. Along with this, I'll be pulling the rear fenders a bit so that I can squeeze the 10mm spacers back there. And then a full detail and Leatherique treatment...
All this before I head to Sebring on Thursday... :facepalm

Yesterday I read and cleared a P0171 code (Bank 1 too lean) and cleaned my MAF sensor. A few weeks ago I got a similar code like P0174 but just cleared it without fixing anything. One possibility is the aFe blue (oiled) filter is contaminating the MAF. I've had the aFe for about 15 months and have received lean codes 3 or 4 times. Another possibility is the lower intake boot has cracked (I replaced it 3 years ago) or air is leaking in through my DISA or CCV. DISA has the GAS upgrade but CCV might be original (nearly 11 years old). Next step in that area is replace the CCV and associated 4 hoses. At that time I'll inspect the lower intake boot, clean the IACS (cleaned 2 or 3 years ago) and clean the throttle body (never cleaned AFAIK).
Yesterday I was at my daughter's school helping build or paint the set for an upcoming musical, when we had to take a break to let some paint dry. I went home, cleared the code, cleaned the MAF, and went back to the school to help clean up the painting supplies.
Today I replaced the rear stainless braided brake lines (from ECS Tuning) with new BimmerWorld stainless brake lines. The ECS rear lines were a little too short and the BW ones are significantly longer--I will measure both and post the details in the Brakes section. No visible signs of failure on the ECS Tuning lines, just figured 3 years is a reasonable replacement interval, especially since some weight is hanging on them whenever I let the suspension droop fully with disconnected shocks. That shouldn't be a problem with the longer BimmerWorld lines. Next step is replace front brake lines.
Also rebuilt rear calipers with Ate rebuild kits, which contain just a new O-ring and dust boot. They were $25 each from BimmerWorld and while I appreciate their presumed high quality, I noticed RockAuto sells Centric kits for $4 each, and O'Reilly/Kragen sells their own brand (BrakeBest) for $3.50 each. Stop! Yes I know it's the brakes, but when I rebuild the fronts I'll probably get the Centric kits. Rear pistons were in great shape, and in fact I'm not sure they even needed a rebuild. My rear inner brake pads wear faster than the rear outer during track days and one side wore faster than the other so I suspected sticky calipers.

That's a lot of good work done! Top job!
11 years on the original CCV is a no-brainer to replace. I had only 9 years on mine (92k mi) and it was toast. All hoses simply crumbled in my hands. It's likely that there's a possible leak due to that. While you're down there, I also suggest cleaning the idle control valve (ICV), you'll be removing it anyways. ICV tends to get sticky with the gunk. Let me know if you've got questions about this job. I've done mine a few months ago so it's all still fresh in my mind. Also, that's a good time to do the Oil Filter Housing Gasket (if you haven't already). To do the CCV, especially the winter version, you need room to wiggle things together. Removing the alternator really helps for that. With alternator out of the way, the OFHG is only 6 bolts away.

I'm finally starting to scratch the surface on coding, enough of my close friends and family have BMW's now that it makes sense. My sisters new (to her) e93 328i has comfort access, but it's not working. Hoping I can find enough info to save the expense of taking it to the dealer to have the keys re-coded. The car has 3 verified comfort access key-fobs, we think perhaps one of the original keys got lost and someone ordered two replacements. Perhaps whomever coded the keys did not realize the car had comfort access and did not code them as such.
I really need some help though, who are the coding guru's on this board? Shoot me some PM's please! I found a BMW Coding Forum, but I think a company that sells a cable for $100ea is sponsoring that site. I'm wondering about all of these other cables that are a lot less expensive (~$30-$40 on amazon and ebay). Do any of you coding guru's use Mac's? I'm using a mid 2010 13" MBP running Mavericks, what is the easiest way to get XP on here to be able to use NCS Expert?
I've searched the site, but its a little crazy, one thread will have info and then someone will post a link to another thread, which will have some good info but then another link to another thread and so on and so forth. Would a "Coding" sub-forum be worth it on this site? To collect and organize all of the threads? Maybe I'm searching using the wrong terms?
THANKS!

Giya, thanks for the tips. I did clean the ICV and replace the OFHG 3.5 years ago but didn't remove or clean the thottle body at the time. The last owner said he didn't replace the CCV, but the hoses I can see do not appears to be falling apart so it's possible they were replaced by the previous owner between 2006-2009, making it 5-8 years old. When I do the CCV I will probably remove the alternator first. I don't think I could have a large vacuum leak or I would get codes all the time, but maybe there is a small one in the CCVor around the lower intake boot (cracked or I didn't reinstall it correctly last time I removed it).
Suggestions on best place to get the cold weather CCV and hoses? Best deal I've seen so far seems to be at GetBMWParts.com; ECS Tuning has convenient kits; AutoHausAZ requires me to order all the pieces individually.

Hoses may not appear to be brittle while installed but once you start taking them out they will very likely easily crack. Having done the CCV, I just don't see why anyone would decide to replace the hoses and not the CCV itself; especially since it's known to be such a weak point and it's relatively inexpensive. Installing the hoses alone requires you to unscrew the CCV from its mounting points so that you can manipulate it to twist-lock the upper hose. So based on what you've described about your car's history, it's more likely that your CCV system still largely original.
I went ahead and bought the full winter kit from ECS, it came with throttle body gasket and other little things that you wouldn't think to replace otherwise. I was making a big order so it seemed reasonable to pay a bit more than other sites and save on combined shipping.
Definitely a good call to remove the alternator. It will surely help you install the CCV and you'll also see how your OFHG is holding up.

True dat! I have no plans to do only the hoses and don't know anyone who would. Well maybe once I read about someone replacing just two of the CCV hoses without replacing the CCV itself on the grounds that one of them is the most likely one to fail. And I think maybe 2 can be replaced without dismounting the CCV. I meant that it's possible the guy who owned it roughly 2006-2009 might have had both the CCV and associated hoses replaced before he totaled it in 2009.
I just ordered the cold weather CCV from GetBMWParts.com (Tischer). ECS was cheaper if you also want the throttle body gasket and lower intake boot, but since I have those already, Tischer was about $10 cheaper than ECS and $2 cheaper than BMWMErcedesParts.com

I ordered a full Turner Motorsport package recently...
StopTech Cross Drilled rotors

ATE Type 200 fluid
new front calipers
TMS brass caliper guide bushings
I will also be painting the calipers black to give them a clean look. Along with this, I'll be pulling the rear fenders a bit so that I can squeeze the 10mm spacers back there. And then a full detail and Leatherique treatment...
All this before I head to Sebring on Thursday... :facepalm

What product did you use? As you can see in the picture of the car I'm purchasing its missing a piece of trim. I want to find a parted out 330i and pass on waiting for a zhp to pop up where I can get the glossy trim. Basically I want to get the stock trim and just make it look glossy the the oem zhp trim.

However you can probably replace it with a wrapped piece from any e46 sedan.

Well, another day and another good bit of work completed. I finished the brakes today, had the wifey help me bleed them. Also took care of the oil change... I started the detail, mostly the trunk area and under the hood. Then I detail sprayed the whole car and will start on the polishing tomorrow. In addition to all that, I test fit some spacers to stick my ass end out a little bit... Not gonna happen... Will have to see what other size spacers I can locate.

Another busy day for me... Got the brakes finished last night... So today I put the car back on the ground... I then did a pretty solid detail. Not the full 110%, but I did do a compound and then followed it with a nice coat of wax. The car feels and looks amazing though, and I removed pretty much all of the blemishes I had my sights on... Of course, being alpine white, it still looks the same...
So, after 4 days on jackstands, I finally got ready to test drive and check the new brakes... Of course, it was threatening rain, and I am NOT ruining my fresh detail... Until tomorrow...

HAH! The only sticker I would add is the "How to properly store three dead hookers in your trunk." in place of the golf bag sticker. These damn Airbag warnings are constantly in my line of sight.

Hmm I will look out for them though. The Velcro has been shit on both e46s I've owned.
Here's a quick and easy DIY. Airbag sticker removal.
Now what is a good adheasive remover for cloth?

Today I took her out (FINALLY.....) and bedded in the new brakes. Holy crap, she's impressive... Sending the DSC and ABS all in a tizzy, on dry, clean road! The first few hard stops felt decent, but once I got them hot, wow... The pedal is pretty firm, but not overly firm given the SS lines. I expected more from them, but its about the same as my last ZHP, so I'm good... Perhaps a good bleeding again after a weekend of driving...
And speaking of driving, as soon as I got home, I prepped for a most EPIC weekend... Heading up to Sebring this weekend for the 62nd running of the 12 Hours of Sebring!! I have been planning on going for months now, and I bought a 4 day BMW Corral pass... This is surely an event I will not soon forget! I will be sure to get LOTS of pics, and hopefully some GoPro action on the parade laps!!! :thumbsup :biggrin :roundel
Here she is, begging to be let out onto the open road to go mingle with her own kind...

Prototype- all the DP's from GA, P2's from ALMS

So we had tires put on the sedan last week. Wife started "complaining" about the car tending to tramline and didn't feel the same. Went back to our tire place and they diagnosed the CAB's were starting to go bad. Had them put on Powerflex Street versions. Made a world of difference. So much so, that I noticed as soon as pulled out of the lot. Kind of had the same issue with the ZHP coupe since we had tires put on it in November, so I brought the sedan home and immediately took the coupe and had them do the same. As much as I don't like to, the car can now be driven with one hand.
I would have done all this, but having to take the bushings off and have the new ones pressed in made the price they charged worth it.

So here's a newbie's review of a car:
Drove my brother's 2008 TL to my guy's shop to get a quote for him. According to MotorTrend, the 3.2L V6 in it puts out 258 hp @ 6,200 rpm and 233 ft lb of torque @ 5,000 rpm with a curb weight of 3,636 lbs.
Vs. the ZHP's 235 hp at 6,800 rpm (however ZHPMafia suggests it is at 5,900 rpm) and 222 ft lb at 3,500 rpm with a curb weight of 3,285 lbs. (should be higher due to sunroof option, power seats, etc. but the spare tire was removed).
In a nutshell, it wasn't as fast as the numbers suggest and not as responsive. Handling wasn't better and the steering feel wasn't "right" to me (proportionately, from how much you turn the wheel to the degree that the car actually turns)
I was surprised to find out that the power was higher by that much, because it certainly felt like the ZHP would destroy it in a straight line even with the difference in power - VANOS ftw! (we've never gone head to head before). I think the weight is definitely what makes it slower - plus it's got two extra unnecessary doors :ducking
The ride was definitely much more comfortable though, and I'm pretty sure his suspension is stock (and probably blown), just like mine. I guess having a bumpy ride is a good thing for me since it keeps me alert and awake, plus I don't mind feeling what the road conditions are like.
Should invest in new shocks/struts/springs/etc.....I realized now that I fell asleep before when he drove us to -somewhere- back then, but I definitely can't if he was driving my car and I'm sitting in the passenger seat - way too bumpy.

ALMS P1 cars are non-existent in any US series. I think they are now only running in the WEC. I am not sure on the auto-qual process.

I used the one Bill posted in the DIY section. Sanded with 400 grit, painted three coats, touched up edges at the end, put them back on the car.

Well, my big ZHP update is that I got to take her for a couple of parade laps around Sebring while there for the race this weekend. I just got home a couple of hours ago, a million pics and videos to sort and upload... Give me time... :biggrin
Let's just say this... Hanging over the wall from pit lane while 3 M6 ZCP GCs were doing hot laps... I've never been so close to a car going so fast... And the burst mode on my iPhone made for some epic photos!! Updates to come!

Well the site says 5900 because that is the reality of where the max power is made. :)
For weight, my car weighed in at 3310 with half a tank, no spare, completely emptied out. Xenons, Cold Weather Package, and Performance Package are the only options. 3285lbs sounds right for a car with less options or less fuel in the tank.

Yesterday replaced front stainless brake lines, finishing the job I started last weekend when I replaced the rear stainless brake lines. The BimmerWorld lines are longer than the UUC lines, which are longer than the ECS Tuning lines (at least the ones I bought from ECS Tuning October 2010). The length difference is quite large between the BW ones and ECS ones. I wonder why, Hmmm....

Today I took both the ZHP and the Diesel in for a wash (not at the same time of course)... When I brought in the Diesel, I pulled up to the entrance of the car wash behind a... Rolls Royce...
Yes, I said Rolls Royce.
Now, I tend to think this place is pretty good and there is no "track" like most automatic car washes, so there's no wheel damage... But still, its a gas station car wash, and the guy in front of me had a Rolls Royce there... A brand new Rolls Royce... I did make mention of the fact to the owner, and he sort of shrugged it off and said that they're careful enough here for him to get the occasional quick wash, to which I agreed. I asked him about owning a car like that, if it was really that different from other luxury brands, such as Bentley. He said that the car did in fact drive really well, and it was well appointed, but he said not enough to justify the price. He also owned a Bentley in the past, and a MBZ S Class.
Anyway, a really nice guy and I was impressed. I would've figured people like that wouldn't talk to low-life folk like myself and our lowly 2014 model BMWs... :rofl
