I was just explaining to BP and Keith yesterday how I never drove with my ZHP armrest down. Something about my seating position and the position the armrest was in made shifting really annoying with it down. I looked into removing it but just propped it up all the time instead.

Looks great JP!
I'll be honest, I like my armrest and cup-holders. I don't eat or drink in my car, but the first cupholder is a great spot to keep my phone, and the second is where I keep a pack of chewing gum..
I normally drive with my hand resting on the shift knob, so I rest my elbow on the armrest.. When I go for a spirited drive, then I prop the arm-rest up..

Also installed the auto dimmer rear view mirror from the XI to replace the manual rear view mirror the ZHP came with. I don't believe the 03 ZHP came with premium package so it is all coming from the XI.

Thanks. Funny how you can fix something you weren't sure was bad, and it can completely change the feel of the car. Unfortunately we didn't get around to lowering it.
And I like my armrest in my ZHP. Use it all the time. I've never really noticed it getting in the way for me. I'm 5'11". That said, the car does look cleaner without it. I want to get mine recovered in alcantara.
Getting it aligned and balanced right now. I'm always nervous when I drop it off at the shop, my car seems to have a history of "We found these issues and it'll cost $x to fix it, we need to do this because (insert reason here)," or, "We ran into a bit of a problem..."

All BMW's have these "visits".
I moved around April last year and updated my address at USPS. Fast forward to yesterday - I walk outside behind my car and notice my tags Dec 2012. Hmm... Uh oh. A trip to DMV this morning $174 registration and $117 in late fees. My girl is back on the road legally. Totally my fault but I was still angry.

Sux.
After the Groupon, it was 40 bucks. So all-in-all, 80 bucks for a wheel alignment and balance. Good deal! Awesome shop, too. They knew my car very well.

Will do. I checked out the DIY on Coby's website. Seems as if what he sends you goes on top of your original arm rest. Not too sure, but the instillation for his shift boot was super easy so I don't see this being an issue.

After 3 months of fun, business, work, and etc., finally washed her down and waxed the hood.
The wheels were so grimy/dusty that even Sonax didn't do the job the first spray, had to wipe each one down twice to get 99% of the crap off and even then, it's still a little bit dusty looking.
UV'd out the dash and inflated the tires to the proper PSI levels.
Battery next.

Worse, because when you're drunk you can at least see. Eyelids closing or eyes completely bugging out and not focusing (that's what happens to me) will almost guarantee a crash.

This was plugged into something on the armrest anchor point, anybody know what it is? It's not power for the light in the rear ashtray, that one is separate. I'm guessing you can probably plug it into some accessory and use it as a charger that routes to the Euro tray

airbag light - messed it up putting on the new steering wheel, but will borrow the SES tool to clear the light at the mafia reunion
Low air light - just came on, fixed the air pressure moments later.

Re: airbag light. I messed it up myself. I'd switched the wheel out a few times w/battery disconnected... fine. But, one time, I pulled out the wheel w/o disconnecting the clock spring wiring connections. The white ribbon cable in the clock spring came out. I didn't put it back in quite the right way, and it disconnected when I turned the wheel, and caused the airbag light to come on. No worries though. Instead of dealing with a potentially damaged ribbon cable, I bought another clock spring on ebay for $35. (the price I paid for being stupid, lol).

Yup, all that is is an external antenna for the TCU / ULF; the module itself is still capable of sending & receiving the signals, especially only going from the trunk to the cabin.

Just finish the front driver side window regulator and motor. After some examination it just seems like a weak motor and the regulator is in tach. Either case I replace both parts from the XI into the ZHP. Now I can actually go through a drive thru without opening up the door. Also printed the tweeter grill since the paint had chips.
Not sure if anyone can help me out with this one however while I was there I took some photos of the ribbon setup for the mirror. I was wondering if there has been any attempt to replace the ribbon wiring with just the regular harnesses that are normally found in the other e46. I still have the junk car and all the mirrors are laying around. Just a few thoughts about either replacing the mirrors with non-ribbon ones so I could worry a lot less when it comes to adding the m3/m5 auto folding mirrors.
az3579
01-31-2013, 12:39 PM
To replace it with the regular harness, you'd need to replace the harness that runs through the car as well. That ribbon cable just connects up to yet another ribbon cable, which also has relations to the seat memory. It's not as simple as you might think.
It's a lot less work to just swap your mirror motors from your stock E46 mirrors into the M3 housing.

Those ballasts appear to be adapters if you have halogen headlamps/angel eyes.

Upon closer inspection, whatever those modules are, they're required to physically connect the rings to the power wires from the harness. Kinda wanna open one up to see what's inside . . . :eeps

Agreed, these seem to be pretty high quality! They're the WeissLicht frosted 66-LED for Xenon headlights from Bimmian.
EDIT: Went ahead & opened up one end; it looks like it's just a waterproof casing for the connection between the power wires & the feeds to each ring:
http://tcholo.net:8080/images/bmw/AEbox01.jpg
Each module has a power & ground wire with a butt connector running into it, then two pairs of pink & white wires with plugs on the ends that connect to the rings:

Pretty sure my car knows I put up a FS thread about her. It snowed 3-5 inches last night, roads were cleared on the way into work though so traffic was light. I got onto the highway on ramp and smashed the throttle and the car got super nasty with me and threw me back in my seat and took off. I did a 20-80mph pull crossing 3 lanes faster than I ever remember this car moving. Maybe it was the right gear at the right time... or maybe she's telling me she's not looking to go without a fight. :shifty

I used
http://www.zhpmafia.com/forums/showthread.php?402-DIY-Restore-Your-Alcantara-Steering-Wheel
To clean my steering wheel, shift boot and parking break boot... Except I only used a magic eraser (so far), I'll use a lint-roler to get off the magic eraser "fuzzies" if they don't brush off when the alcantara dries...
I wish I had taken before and after pictures, I truly cannot believe the difference! I had two flat spots around the upper spokes (because I usually drive with my hands there to not touch the wheel) and a flat spot at about 7-8 o'clock from driving with the back of my left hand there and holding the steering wheel from the back... Anyhow, its still drying (not that I got it sopping wet) and it looks to have completely removed these three flat spots. It also removed a few random stains from the shift boot and parking break boot... It has inspired me to go ahead and order a new shift knob (the original is looking pretty rough), now I just have to decide if I want to spring for the backlit F10 M5 or just go with another OEM ZHP...
Oh, and about to find out why my bluetooth quit working...
EDIT: The parrot just came unplugged when I moved it last week thinking it was interfering with my DICE module... Easy fix!

Fitment is pretty good; the larger ring for the Xenon side & the smaller ring for the halogen side fit perfectly inside of the black trim piece & they appear to not be moving anywhere (with the Xenon adjustment when you turn them on).
I also spliced in a potentiometer to dial back the (IMO) cheap, "ZOMGlookatme!" brightness that current LED AEs seem to love; now they're just bright enough to be seen, but not overpowering (though I think I lose a bit of uniformity when dimmed).

Also, got my passenger-rear plugged; ran over a nail (yay living in neighborhoods with tons of construction). Went to Discount Tire as it was nearby, & I plan to buy my square set of DWSs from them (whenever I get a square set of wheels). I was nervous about letting them do their "helpful" extras: checking the inflation & torque on all of my wheels, reinstalling the repaired wheel, & re-stowing the spare in the trunk. But, it turns out that they actually knew what they were doing: lugs torqued to 90 lb-ft (within the 87 +/-7 spec), & tires inflated to 32 front, 38 rear. The only negative was that they tossed my metal valve cap & replaced it with a plastic one. :shifty But, it was free! They charged me $0 for the repair & "extras"! I'll be returning for new tires for sure!

I would also just be interested to see how it was done.

I had some Pilot Super Sports installed a couple of weeks ago and an alignment done. So much quieter and smoother than the Pilots that were on it before.
Today I installed new <strike>Denso</strike> NGK spark plugs and replaced the cabin filter. I looked at the plug DIY and noticed my coil packs are a different design. There were no bolts involved. Just flip up the top, pull the connector and then remove the coilpack.
I still need to do the fuel filter and replace the diff/tranny fluids but the super bowl is in two hours and I need some beer.

Habit. I ran them in the Subaru and my BMW R1200RT.
Is there something bad about mixing Denso with ZHP?

Well majority of people run NGK BKR6EQUP while there is also Bosch spark plugs as well. It's just recommended to go with the NGK one since they out preform majority of the other spark plugs.

I know this is the wrong thread but I need quick input.
Left indoor garage 20 mins ago. 10 mins of slow traffic (15-20mph) and temp needle is at 3/4. Shut off immediately, OBC menu says coolant temp is at 0112, which I think is 11.2 Celcius. No coolant spills in engine bay. Engine cold to the touch. Level is fine but I have air somewhere. I'm thinking maybe the hot air pocket got stuck in tstat area. System has 40k on it.
Is 11.2C really the level where car overheats? Maybe radiator fan is dead? Temp needle is back to 12:00 and OBC says 0096 now (15 mins since shutoff)
Tow?
Hermes
02-04-2013, 02:43 PM
that is read as 112C... maybe an air pocket? 12 o'clock on the needle should be around 97C (that's the operating temp of the thermostat)

Your water temp sensor is in towards the back of the head on the driver side. It may have an air pocket up there. Mine did that not long ago and the reading was completely redlined. Once I bled off the air, the temp dropped like a champ.

112 makes more sense lol. I read on the hidden OBC thread that 0021 was 2.1C, which is why I thought I was running 11.2.

Yup, I think it's my air pocket f***ing with me yet again. I ended up walking to my destination since I was pretty close, and left there around 3 hours after my post. I started the car at 22C, it went up to 110 again (I turned the car off and coasted in neutral when it did) and suddenly temp reading went 110 > 70 instantly. Was normal for the rest of the drive home. Coolant flush imminent.

Trolled a lady and her co-ed daughter driving a bulbous Chevy Traverse today...pretty funny that people don't like it when you change lane positions. Anyway, I just kept doing that because traffic was bad and I was behind them and extremely bored. My route home is filled with B roads and nice sweepers, but since it was 5 pm when I got out of work, traffic is a mess, so I just tried to keep occupied. Traverse would mock my every move and kept following my lane position change from left to right and back to left. At one point, I "warmed my tires," just because I could see they were uncomfortable.
At the first stoplight (Jones Junction) there is a turn or go straight lane and I was in the straight lane that merges. They just kind of looked over and I
smiled and waved. They're disgusted looks said that I was winning at my little game. So the car in front didn't have its turn signal on (typical Marylander) so in the off-chance they turned I was going to shoot the gap and just settle in.
So the light changes and I see the opportunity to get in front of them and a few other cars. Instantly romp on the loud pedal and pass them and the car that was previously in front of me and just smile because I know they're pissed. When you get into town the single lane becomes two and a turn lane appears on the left and I can see them hauling ass to catch up to me, and at the light they pull into the left turn lane well behind the stoplight and roll down the window and say some bullshit...I just responded with a smile and this little gem. "I'm sorry if I gave you the inclination that I gave a fuck. Have a pleasent evening."
They were furious and the cars behind were honking. To get so worked up over trivial shit is hilarious.
Never followed less than 1 second behind by the way, just typical traffic headed into town at rush hour.
Probably not worthy of a post, but it was kinda funny to me and now I'm drinking some Heavy Seas to take the 10 hour work day edge off.
Tomorrow is my off day and will be putting in the final money order for the Performance Splitters!

I'm also chasing down a lead on a UUC SSK/DSSR. A guy on e46 about 60 miles up the road one has one is his 330 and is returning to stock. So I need to swap him my current shifter and selector rod plus some cash. I just need to see if our schedules mesh on when we can both have our cars down. I really don't like the stock shifter so hopefully we can work this out.

Yea the install sucks but it will be well worth it.
If you plan on removing the exhaust to do it. Make sure that you have heat for the nuts. Most likely you will have to heat them red hot to get them off without snapping them. Have some extra nuts and bolt just in case

Thanks for the tips. I haven't even been under the car yet to see how it is layed out. I plan to do the diff and tranny fluid tomorrow and will develop my plan of attack at that point. Extra parts is a good idea. I'd hate to have the car down for $2 worth of parts.

So I couldn't finish before the snow storm however this is what I was able to finish before the snow came. After opening everything up I found that the oil was slightly milky. The spark plugs and vcg was replaced. Also swapped out the vanos with one I had previous already replaced the seals as well. The CCV was clogged and most likely was going to give me problems in the future. I swapped out the CCV with the winter version from the previous car. Picked up a oil housing filter this morning and was going to proceed with finishing up the install and warping things up before NEMO came. However he came too quickly which brought me to the decision to throw a tarp over everything and call it a day. So far this whole job is taking me about 10 hours and looks like to be another 3 hours or so as I am still replacing a lot of stuff to make sure that any road trips coming up wouldn't leave me stranded. After all this would be a cooling system overhaul since I found that the coolant had oil in it as well.

Thanks for the tips. I haven't even been under the car yet to see how it is layed out. I plan to do the diff and tranny fluid tomorrow and will develop my plan of attack at that point. Extra parts is a good idea. I'd hate to have the car down for $2 worth of parts.
I forgot to tell you don't forget the gaskets for the exhaust too... there are two of them.
BTW it is possible to do it without removing the exhaust. I did it that way but it took a lot longer

How do you remove and replace the OE mirrors? BTW, are mirrors sold on Ebay OE or made in Asia?
ECS Tuning has a good video...

I finished technically today... around mid night I'd say.
Wrapped up doing the entire cooling system, belts, tensioner/pulleys.
Was so pleased with myself, I installed my early V-Day gift from the wife, the AUX cable. Was feeling motivated further with Pandora jamming, so I washed it for the first time (had 3 weeks now) and damn those rims suck to clean!!! Mother Back to Black on the exterior trim, cleaned and conditioned the leather with Zymoil. Degreased and wiped down the engine bay, vacuumed...
Can't wait to see it tomorrow in the light.

Already making my next "project" list.
Something about VANOS seals, Anti-Rattle kit, anything oil seal/gasket/o-ring related, trans fluid change, diff fluid change, flush brake fluid for SuperBlue, plugs...

You're on the $10k plan if you do rims/suspension/brakes/strut bars/intake/tires..

The original ZHP review. Italian road trip in the ZHP when it was new. Although the car in the article doesn't have style 135s nor do they prefer to it as the ZHP. They call it a PP.

It was going to at least be an Si, but after a trip to the dealership, where they wouldn't let me test drive a new Si and I had to settle for a drive in a regular civic, and I was completely disappointed with the ride, handling, and interior quality. Then Kyle convinced me we could make my car everything I wanted. Thank goodness!

Scraped and banged up the underside of my car some more today. All this ice that's sticking up higher than 3-4 inches on the ground between the ruts for where the tires go on the road is destroying the underside of my car. That goes without mentioning the countless times I hit the bump stops from all the snow/ice mounds on the road. Average speed this past weekend: 5mph. Literally.
I'm so sick of this frozen hell they call the Northeast.

Funny....I didn't have that problem with my ZHP today. Although we got dumped on as well and the three lane roads where I live are not two lanes, I managed to negotiate the roads fairly well when I took my ZHP out today. :thumbsup
Purchased more tid-bits for the ///M yesterday and today...;)
