Sprayed down the first layer of Sonax Full Effect then got to work polishing the leftover dust by hand,
Washed everything down with Mother's California Gold car wash,
Clayed the hood and trunk with Griot's Garage clay kit using Meguiar's Quik Detailer as the lubricant,
Cleared up the spiderwebs on the hood and trunk with Meguiar's Ultimate Compound,
Sealed up all paint surfaces with Sonax ProfiLine.

Took about 3 hours to do.....she's sitting outside atm, but underneath a custom fit CoverCraft NOAH cover. Shoot scheduled for tomorrow. :biggrin

Wish the days were a little longer, could've used the time to Rain-X the glass surfaces and some other minor things, like re-check tire pressure or wipe down the dash, interior stuff, etc.

Spacers. 8x18" 135Ms all around, 10-mm spacers front, 12.5-mm rear.

No, I’ve not driven my squares without spacers (had the spacers on before I went square). As for spacers’ performance benefits, I’m pretty much with those guys: technically they do give you a wider track, which does help performance, but the few-millimeter increase from spacers isn’t really appreciable.

Drove my car in the freezing cold again today. I opted to let it sit all day yesterday when the wind chill brought the temp down to a toasty -26* F. Just replaced the rod bearings a few days ago so I'm still taking it easy on it. 1200mi of easy driving has never been so hard...

Today Safelite came and repaired a small windshield chip I had. They did a good job but kept cleaning my already clean glass and were sitting in my fragile alcantatra seats!:mafia Joking aside it looks pretty good. They were nice guys and very talkative. They wanted to vacuum my interior but I refused politely. I definitely would recommend them for windshield chip repair. We will see how it holds up. :applause

Most people recommend against springs + stock struts. OEM shocks can't handle them. You should probably pick up some shocks, as well. Maybe Bilstein or Koni.

Agree here... I ran my last car on Eibach Pro-kit with stock struts, put about 100K on her doing that, still handled and rode just fine when I sold it. Besides, this is just a temporary/we'll see situation... If the stance is good, then I'll get struts and a few other maintenance items to match... But if I don't need coilovers to get the right stance, then I'm going to skip them and save the money for other mods. :)

Nice Charlie! Simple install usually, but let me know if I can help. Also, FWIW I installed my small SIRIUS antenna underneath the rear parcel shelf. Reception isn't perfect with tall trees or buildings nearby, but easier then running the antenna outside the car.

They're the H&R Sport Springs... Nothing wild by any means, but if the stance is what I'm looking for, I'll keep them and then just upgrade the other suspension parts... If they don't work out for me, I'll swap them out for a set of coil overs...

Laugh all you want guys, the fuel coming out of the end that goes to the engine was clean compared to the end coming from the fuel pump, which was visibly dirty!

My cold start issues probably won't happen again even if the issue isn't resolved because it was only a problem in single digit temps. We haven't had single digit temps for twenty years and probably won't again, so I won't ever know. At the very least I ruled these items out, and that's all I could ask for at this point.

Not laughing at you BP, amazed at the longevity you got out of it and making fun of what to do with that specimen. After that many miles there has to be enough contaminants/stuff filtered out that it had less flow than your new filter, hope it cured your issue.

Installed the LED licence plate bulbs from Khoalty. At first, I thought they're exactly the same as the bulbs from the Ziza kit for the interior but these actually have heat sinks attached to the back. I suppose it's meant to dissipate the heat to prevent melting of the plastic surroundings. Pretty clever. So that's it, everything is LED-lit :)

Interestingly, all the old bulbs (interior included) that came out were either yellowed or smoked from extended use. No wonder it looked awful.

Normally they don't, but I would think that a change to offset bushings would change the caster enough that it would be necessary.

I would recommend it after any suspension work. $50-$100 is cheap as compared to ruining one good tire, nonetheless two or more (if you did rear suspension work as well).

All of that said, I still have not gotten my car aligned after changing my RTAB's, but the car only got driven 2900 miles last year, so its probably been less than 500 miles since I did it. Waiting to do FCAB's, tie-rod ends and end links before getting an alignment.

Technically the alignment geometry shouldn't have to realigned for front control arm bushings. However; there will be a very slight change due to tolerance stack up and never getting it perfectly in the same location.

When I did my front control arms and bushings, I used BMW OEM to limit the variables and did not align the car for more than a year and didn't see any significant tire ware due to alignment.

The rear control arm bushings are a whole different story. The rear control arms are an alignment adjustment and there is no way not to change the alignment when changing them out. The alignment specks I posted a few months ago were within days after I changed out my Rear Control Arm Bushings.

I don't know what's wrong with the car.

After installing my aux cable, I went to go for a little drive. At around 74 mph I started hearing a "thump thump thump thump" noise as if there were a flat spot in the tire. It sounded like it came from the rear-left of the car. The car noticeably was vibrating to this sound. When I would touch my brakes, the steering wheel would shake fairly violently.

I freaked out, pulled over and took a look around outside. I didn't see anything unusual. I was worried one of my wheels had come loose, but nothing seemed wrong. Regardless, I put on my hazards and drove home slowly. I figured it might have something to do with the new winter wheel setup I got, so I took the rear-left wheel off, took off the brakes, inspected everything, nothing was wrong. Everything was gutentight. I put the wheel back on and re-torqued it, then went for a drive.

Around 5-10 minutes later, that weird vibration and thunk came back. It was intermittent, it would come and go randomly. I realized that this wasn't putting me in any immediate danger, whatever the noise, so I drove on back home while trying some hard braking tests and whatnot. I heard a squeaky left-side brake at lower speeds.

This time since I felt the vibration really in the steering wheel and some in the brake pedal, I took off the front left wheel and inspected it. I noticed the brake rotor was very, very hot, and the wheel had more dust on it than the front right. In addition, it was harder to spin than the front right, which spun very easily. This indicates a sticking caliper to me, but I do not feel it is very related.

I looked up and around everywhere. No broken suspension components, the wheel seemed solid after shaking it, except for a very minor and small thunk noise if I really really shook it hard (which I would expect). Everything felt and looked solid. So I put it back on the ground and torqued the wheels again.

I am going to take it to Best Motor Werks here in Columbus, they're highly rated. I am going to see if they can diagnose it for me. Anyone have any ideas before I send it on over to them?

I'm wondering that too, because the clearance between my calipers and inner wheel is absurdly tight (16" Sport Edition A7). I wouldn't be surprised if some sheered off, but I don't notice any missing. If they are, Tire Rack will cover the bill of re-balancing (happened to my manager, actually).

But, tomorrow I am going to drop it off to the pros and see what their diagnosis is. I am hoping it's nothing expensive. I don't think a sticky caliper can create those noises, but you never know. The salty roads here might have done their magic to make it finally start sticking, particularly after not driving it for a few weeks.

I think the biggest thing for me right now is to not stress over it, because there are far more important things in the world for me to enjoy right now. Sitting here in front of the computer googling stuff is not going to make the problem get fixed any quicker, so damnit I am going to play some 360 :D This is but a minor speed bump and I need to remember that. Anxiety sucks a lot.

Just received a Sprint Booster as a 'hand-me down' from a friend. Needless to say, I have a VERY HAPPY wife right now. She came back from her maiden run after installing the booster with a HUGE grin on her face. Now if I can only figure out a way to have it set to anything but RACE. Not likely going to happen. She is now claiming that she needs a SSK installed to help compensate for the faster throttle response.

Yesterday I washed and waxed her and cleaned her interior. I used the magic eraser on the steering wheel and rear armrest and it worked really good. I just need a lint shaver for the excess pill up on the wheel. I attached a pic of the cleaning in process. I go through a lot of microfiber towels.... 11725

Called the shop, we basically diagnosed it over the phone. I had suspected something was wrong with the brake caliper, but he confirmed that my symptoms are classic of a sticky brake caliper.

The vibration starts after driving for a bit at higher speeds because the rotor is overheating, and it probably finally retracts after being stuck, which would make the vibration go away. This also is the reason for the vibration when I brake during that time as well.

My car has sat for about 2 weeks being undriven, and the roads have been very salty. So I am sure these roads finally did the old calipers in after many years of my car living in the north before I picked it up.

So the good news is: Cheap fix, easy, easy easy. All I need is a Motive brake bleeder, flare wrench, rebuilt calipers, and some brake fluid. Bad news is, I've got new rotors and pads, but I probably have caught them soon enough to salvage them by just getting them turned and using some sandpaper on the pads.

Lessons learned:

1. Don't panic.
2. Relax.
3. Have fun in life :)
4. It's probably not as bad as you think it is

They also mention that it aligns to the brake pedal for easier heel and toe... that doesn't make any sense to me whatsoever. It's more important to have the relationship between the brake pedal and throttle fixed than it is for the clutch; the clutch is entirely independent of heel and toe shifting... I don't get it. :dunno

I can't figure out how it effects heel and toe either but I've heard it mentioned in several reviews.

A clutch stop will reduce excess travel in the pedal but to actually reduce the throw you have to move the pivot point. This does that and it's made of metal to eliminate the inherent side-to-side slop of the OEM plastic unit.

I'd say it's pretty similar to the UUC DSSR. A lot of people won't even notice the difference but if you appreciate the feel of a precise mechanical you'll notice and love it.

I operate my clutch pedal about 50 times for each time I look at my stance.

Just to clarify, and I hope I'm not wrong but I refer to the travel of the clutch pedal as the movement from upper rest to where it physically stops against the clutch stop or the floor. The pedal throw would then be the movement from upper rest to where the transmission is completely disengaged from the engine.

It didn't do much, if at all. So I took off the caliper, looked at the bore and it's good and rusted. I saw a small tear in the rubber as well. That confirms it!

I've got new calipers, a Motive bleeder, and a liter of BMW DOT4 brake fluid on the way :) Hoping to tackle it this weekend.

Now to bother a co-worker for a ride to work..... D:

I went through two reman calipers (AutoZone does OEM calipers) and replaced the rubber brake hoses with some ECS lines. Seemed to do the trick. The AutoZone parts have a lifetime warranty too, and aren't that expensive.

So I finally changed the CAF on the Bimmer with an OEM MicronAir Charcoal infused version...By the looks of it, the car still had the factory one, and it was pretty dirty, but IDK if it was very nasty, like I expected it to be.

So I finally changed the CAF on the Bimmer with an OEM MicronAir Charcoal infused version...By the looks of it, the car still had the factory one, and it was not dirty, but IDK if it was very nasty, like I expected it to be.
Anyway, compared to the Elantra this was so easy to do, I was done in like 2 minutes.

I was gonna ask you about that, but I just decided I like the look of the zhp knob more inside the cabin and already liked the feel of it so I just went zhp knob. I will be using your SSK DIY soon, I'd like to thank you in advance for that. Not looking forward to getting that plastic bearing thingy out.

I hope it helps you with the install. Justin said there was a much easier way to remove it. I have his post quoted in the guide, hopefully it helps you.

I've got that one! It's heavy as a pig but man does it get the job done. I'd say it weighs about 50 lbs. It lifts really high really fast. I love it. I just don't like having to lug it down the apartment hallway. The best part about it is the built-in breaker bar from the handle. That has come in serious handy when taking off lugs.

I just got my reman'd calipers shipped to me from Advance Auto Parts. They look great, and they're "rust colored" so they won't look awkwardly out of place. It came with all the hardware: new slide pins, new bushings, new caliper carrier. The calipers say "BMW" on them, so it's not anything aftermarket. All OE stuff. Unfortunately they lubed the slide pins, which is a no-no according to BMW. Oh well. Nothing I can do about it but clean them off. I'm sure it won't make an appreciable difference. Yes that is oregano.

I absolutely noticed that! I thought I was just automatically favoring he new because it's new not heavier, but I guess other people have noticed a difference as well.

Picked up my cooling system parts. Upper and lower radiator hose, Behr radiator, Graf water pump, a gallon of BMW coolant, Wahler thermostat, auxiliary thermostat, expansion tank.

Installed an alarm for the 2002. 2002FAQ was very helpful with wiring diagrams. I was also grateful that the stock wiring was in great shape/unmolested.

I got the aluminium version of the 2 Tonner. The best money I've spent in a while. I don't know what I was thinking using crappy small hydraulic jack. I like that the minimum range is better than that of a 1.5 ton version and it also goes higher. Having spent some quality time under the car, I find that extra inches of height can make a huge difference.

While transferring wheels between the coupe (I refinished) and the sedan (not as good looking), I found the sedan needs new rear tires. Perfect time to have them refinished....... Didn't really want to spend $1300 between wheel refinishing and new tires.

Added techron to a 1/8th tank of gas then drove to the station and filler her up with 91 octane ethanol free gas. I then thought that I would try spraying off all the road grime and cap from the last snow storm. 18 minutes and 8 dollars into washing her at the car wash o look out of my stall to see the wind is now blowing at about 35-40 mph gusts and it's snowing... hopefully it stays just flurries =( I've forgotten what my car looks like clean

I stopped by safeway, on my way to the service shop since the engine service light was on, I finish up in safeway and BOOM. I get an eml light and the car won't start. To top it all off, one of my side mirrors that was a little loose and flew off while it was on the tow truck. :scratchinghead

I believe the mirror cover was loose when I got the car. I noticed it the first time I washed it. I guess I have more incentive to finally replace it now haha.

My e90 had a bad morning: rough running and the SES light came on. Got an appt with the Indy for Jan-28. Until then, I wil drive the Mini. Also, I needed to move the baby seat from the e90 to the Mini. How easy it's to install the seat on the Mini. The hooks are behind a little cover, you can find them right away.
