Yup, just requires a minor bit of wiring since its sealed bulb to H1 IIRC. You just need to run leads from the bulb to the wire harness. It should fit any old BMW with 5.25" high beams
As for my background, yes I haz a barn with lots of hay

Fixed the driver window regulator with OEM BMW. I had installed Dorman garbage from Amazon a year ago and it's been failing on me every 6 months.
I zip-tied the clips and greased the tracks - hopefully this was the last time I tore the door open for a few years. Glad to finally be driving the car again.

Wow, that would be my dream setup except swap the M3 into the garage and the ZHP out, the ZHP should also be Imola Red, as well as the x3 M-Sport and the M3, but melborne would suffice. Rumor is Melborne (or something similar) is coming to the FL x3 and x4.

Yesterday, I had a great moment with my ZHP. Just got out of my chemistry exam at roughly 7:00pm, already pitch dark outside. Walked to my car, and drove off. As soon as I was about to hit the freeway, White Walls came on (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8PLifPUIuic). Turned up my stereo as far as it could go without distorting (which isn't much, but I don't care :)), opened my moonroof, and got onto the freeway. 60 degree wind hitting my face, doing 85 the whole way home. It was perfect. I love my 10-year-old, dirty as shit, scratched to hell, not special, under-maintained, heavily rusted, salvage title ZHP. Nothing better.

^ indeed it is a shame, I need to make some new friends! lol I agree with you, I almost let this place align my car after changing out the RTAB's, a (different) fellow ZHP owner suggested their shop. I went by to meet the owner, locate the place and make the appointment. After seeing my car he sent me a FB message saying it would cost more because my car has aftermarket suspension and wheels and tires. WTFever, canceled the appointment, car still hasn't been aligned, but I haven't even driven 5k this year, I'll wait until after I do my FCABs and other stuff up front and hopefully find someone that isn't a moron.

$5 says battery will have more power if you use ShockTop or BlueMoon box.
I used to have a shop in South Orange County that would align my BMW for $70 and do custom settings on request. And let me watch from just outside the bay. Now my local mechanic is a good guy (BMW specialist) but charges $100. On the other hand he knows how to deal with camber plates since he also races an E36 with NASA.
Had some front end squeaking so last night regreased the Hotchkis swaybar bushings after 2.5 months and AKG FCABs after 1 year. Swaybar bushings still had a good amount of stiff and super sticky grease in there, but FCABs had only little traces of completely dried grease. On one side of swaybar zerk fitting worked great, other side the grease was coming out by the zerk fitting inside of squeezing inside the bushing. Seems zerk exit wasn't lined up with hole in bushing that leads to grease channels. I removed that bracket and greased bushing with a finger. Also put in new camber plate brackets with longer studs. Ground Control fabbed up a custom set for me when I said the studs on the normal brackets were too short to go through camber plate, strut tower reinforcements, and strut tower bar end plates. Super service from Ground Control.
Squeakiness now reduced.

Drove too and from school and then to work. On the way home from school the ZHP stars were aligned; cool dense fall air being sucked in, bright sunny fall day, windows cracked, sunroof tilted, seat heater on low, great pandora mix on, but not so loud that I couldn't hear that sweet M54 and even sweeter exhaust note, good mix of green and red lights with very light traffic, short jump onto and off of the interstate. Even after nearly 8 years and nearly 100k miles of ownership, I still love that car!

Noticed a small coolant leak a few days ago. Checked it today and found this:
http://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/gg569/jstrams/null_zpsa991e0fa.jpg
I'm assuming that's coolant on the expansion tank? New tank or new hose?
BCS_ZHP
11-07-2013, 07:50 PM
Try replacing the coolant cap first. There's a rubber o-ring inside the cap that can go bad from constant temp extremes (cold to max hot). Think the cap is under $20, worth a try. A cracked/bad expansion tank should be leaking a lot more than that little bit of spit residue.

That's a relief! Assuming that's the problem. I was expecting a new tank or coolant system refresh. I hope that's the only problem... I'll check the O ring first.

The o-ring may look perfectly fine to your eye, it's the thermal cycling at higher temps when it's put under stress and allows coolant to slip past that rubber seal. And they are fairly cheap, the cap used to be under $10 but I think they've now crept up in price to the mid-teens. Stuart's car had this same issue about a year ago, the new cap fixed it and I've had the same issue on at least 3 different cars.

My rears came in last week too, but the car is now stored for the winter. I had some surgery two weeks ago, so my flexibility/mobility is a little limited right now anyway... but when I feel a bit better I may unwrap the car and install them... it's hard to ask me to wait for the next 5 months!!! Rolled fenders with JohnRando. Eliminated his rubbing and put my 15mm spacers on.
With Rando in the back I could get it to rub slightly by cornering hard over a bump but nothing with typical driving.

Did my front wheel hub/bearings today. Surprisingly easy job. The hardest part of the whole thing was tapping on the rear dust shield. Other than that, once the hub assembly finally slides on (it'll take some very hard whacks), it just taps on very easily.
The odd part was that my front left wheel bearing looked perfect, though was loose, while my front right wheel bearing was in the worst condition. The hub nut came off with surprisingly little effort, which was concerning. It was easier to take off than my wheel lugs. Someone was there before at some point, as the nut was peened twice. In addition, the nut was rusted to all hell and back. Glad I replaced all of that and torqued everything down to the proper spec.
Also, vote for Rando as the best last name on the forum.

Drove mine to work, bathed her, dried her off, went to start on the clay and realized it was at the house (****). Waxed the glass, taillights, headlights, side markers and spot waxed areas that needed some extra attention. Removed roof rack, cleaned out the trunk. Raised the back end up to check the diff's rear cover bolts which were unfortunately still tight this time (diff is leaking, cleaned it up a few months back and found most of the rear cover bolts loose). Then while looking over the car for more trouble spots on the paint counted more than 10 door dings...
Yes, I said more than 10...
The car made it through the first 10 years of its life with NO dings, and in the past 6 months has accumulated more than 10. It just doesn't make sense. I park in a garage at home (backwards hugging the wall), I park in a garage at school (at the end of a level at the end of a row) and 16 of the 20 days (in a 4 week repeating schedule) I park in a garage at work (with no one here). We take the Honda to the mall, the grocery store, out of town on trips and etc. Surely someone isn't doing this on purpose, right?
Totally killed my car buzz for the night, but here are some pics before I got pissed and walked away.

Don't let door dings get you too down. They are annoying but better than scratches IMO (not scuffs you can just buff out). I haven't had a door ding on any of my cars that a pro hasn't been able to remove to my satisfaction. And it's not too expensive to repair. I would rather have a door ding than a deep paint scratch any day.

Brake wobbling, have replaced everything that could have possibly contributed to it minus the bearings and hub assembly.
When I took the rotors off and shook the bearings, they were visibly loose.
My rear wheel bearings I know for a fact are bad. My rear left makes a low drone at 50 and 70 mph. Not anything too loud or annoying, kinda sounds a little like the exhaust but is definitely the wheel bearing for sure. If you're experiencing that with your front wheels that might be it.
Go to AutoZone and get two Timken-branded hubs for $45 each. Literally the cheapest you'll get, and they're identical to OE. Other than that, the only special tools you'll need are:
- 46mm socket
- 36mm impact socket (for whacking the hub on - bonus: if you don't have one yet, this also works on the oil filter)
- 250 ft/lbs max torque wrench
- 10mm deep socket
- Mallet
- 2-jaw puller
If you've been doing car work for a long time, you've probably got all these. In that case, pick up 2 new hub nuts, 2 new hub dust caps, 2 new rear hub dust shields, and both of those wheel bearings. You'll be done in a few hours by just taking your time. The longest part is the cleanup.

Saw a couple of frosty mornings this week, so decided to take advantage of the long weekend and put the winter rubber on.
Every spring / fall when I do the tire swap, I also like to 1) adjust the compact spare tire pressure, and 2) adjust the handbrake.

I'd say just two at a time, but if you can do all four then hey no harm. The rears are cheaper than the fronts since you just need the bearing; however, you'll need a $100 harbor freight tool and need to rent a hub separator. But you can sell the harbor freight tool afterwards, unless they can work for other things (e.g. differential bushings). Now you don't *need* the Harbor Freight tool, but it'll make the job much better. Otherwise you gotta manufacture an odd contraption out of Home Depot parts.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wKYL9_4mXRI
Also a great time to replace your parking brake shoes and perhaps refresh the springs and lube/clean the adjusting mechanism since the rears require removal of them.

True but since the bumper already had holes (two in my friend's ///M) and 4 on mine, two additional holes where you will never see them won't matter too much.
I've been running on my Skene Designs license plate brackets for three years now :thumbsup

Yes, it comes in a tube with plastic end caps. The tube snugs in nicely to a blank spot in my tool kit (not sure if its meant to be blank or if a PO lost a tool), so I always have it with me.
I think he stopped making them, but I also managed to snag a couple of aluminum blocks that snug right into the jack pockets on the side rails. The block has little rubber nubs on each side (two per side) that hold it in place. When used with your floor jack, the lifting pressure is being put directly on the frame rail (as it would with the factory jack), rather than thru the jack pocket. I once forgot to take the blocks out after finishing a wheel swap. Went for a 20 minute drive and upon arriving at my destination looked at my car and saw the block still hanging there. I thought "Lucky! But, oh $h!t, what about the other side?" It was still there too!

Yeah, I can understand the rust thing, but if you really want a clean, no rust car, go to Arizona... We bought a '65 Mustang back in the day from there, it had ZERO rust... Even after 25 years...
And to be honest, I used to think CA had insanely clean cars, but I think Florida keeps their cars cleaner. Not to mention, Florida seems to have a lot more disposable income, a lot of ridiculously expensive cars here, driven every day...

I met up with a few Boston BMW CCA members and Chad as well. Brought some burgers to cook on the grill and we purchase some pizza as well. I finally did a transmission and differential fluid change. Also I had change to the BMW performance short shifter. Really made a difference with the distance of travel on the shifts. I have never done it before however it was really easy with some help of experience friends. Just a note that the BMW short shifter doesn't require washers on the side. It is now integrated into the shifter.
Chad on the other hand just completed a oil filter housing gasket along with replacing the oil separator since winter is coming. It was a good 5-6 hour job however it's a nice thing to do before the winter freezes up the pipes. My third time doing this job and I pretty much memorized every single bolt/nut that belongs to each part. I never wish to do it again!

Those look pretty good actually for winter. We've all seen worse! As for the hangars, I have a pair of hangars that I think were a BMW accessory. I don't exactly recall where I got them actually (owned the car too long). I don't use them with my VMR's though, just with my OEM's and/or doughnut spare.

I know what you mean about tetris, for the past few years I have had a tub of "extra" parts in the back of my car. I decided yesterday NO MORE! But yes, we have played tetris a few times when we have out in the ZHP and decided to randomly stop somewhere for some heavy (or even light) shopping. The car gets small real quick!
--------------
Today/tonight I attempted to clay the car. I don't think I got the hang of it until I got to the hood (after doing the trunk, rear bumper and roof). I think I was putting too much lubricant down, the clay didn't really shrink in size like I've seen people talk about online. I then followed with a coat of cleaner wax and a final coat of wax. I don't think I'll be going back to re-do the work I've already done; I'll just take the experience forward to finish the car (tomorrow and tuesday) and remember next time when I do those panels again.

The winter storms are starting - looks like it's time to pick up a set of snow tires and wheels.
I'm debating on whether to go full-on snow/summer or get some DWS and sell my front tires since they've got about 80% life left...but I really do like my summer tires.
Between shipping and installing, both will cost approximately the same. I like the idea of a dedicated winter tire setup. I'll feel safer.

Diabolical, ugly things that make your car look like a 1997 Kia :(
If you don't get the right wheels, yes...
My winter wheels kick ass. :p
If you are interested in performance, get dedicated winter and summer wheels and tires. If you don't feel like spending much and don't care for performance all that much, then Conti DWS tires are an awesome buy.

Just get all seasons. Get some of the new pilot sport a/s 3 tires and performance will be almost as good as your summers and snow driving will be fine. Plus you won't get enough snow to warrant dedicated snow tires IMO. I've never had any trouble with my pilot sport a/s
I would get winter tires and use them and after that store them.

Same goes for the northeast, if you have a RWD car.

I'm a big proponent of having dedicated summer and winter sets, but I know it is more expensive to do so. Still, summer tires just feel better in the summer. And for winter, the right tires can make a big difference. Even with all wheel drive cars, driving in snow is just a lot easier with proper winter tires.
I do run the "high performance" winter tires though. This year I went with the Dunlop WinterSport 4Ds. I wanted the Michelin PA4s, but I couldn't justify the extra money (about $200 extra with the size I picked). The 4Ds have been getting great reviews on the European sites and I was happy with the 3Ds, so I think I'll be fine with these. I imagine in Ohio the snow will probably the same as (if not a little better) than what we get here in PA, so you shouldn't need the more aggressive snow tires.
Blizzaks (I had the LM-25s) were just awful. I don't know why everyone else loves them.
Thanks for the info. Completely missed that
Yup, I moved out of Raleigh about 6 months ago. I had no problem with summers year-round there :) I think there was maybe one day where I couldn't drive out of the whole time I was there.
I think I'm just going to go with the thinnest steelies I can get + ExtremeWinterContacts. They were very highly rated.

Picked up a H&R/Koni cup kit for Preston's car this weekend, even swap with BMWKnight as he needed a stock ZHP diff and we had a spare one. Planning to do the suspension swap on Friday, I'm taking a day off of work, that never happens.
And for Brett, Xmas came early, the CF diffuser looked too nice, I couldn't hold it for a month & a half, installed it last night when he was sleeping cause I knew he was planning to wash his car today. Excited isn't enough to describe his reaction when he discovered it. Also had him drive by my buddy's shop this afternoon and they installed his front CF splitters with tape & some screws underneath.
A picture being worth a thousand words...

Just installed a new set of carbon fiber mirror caps. Admittedly, I got them off eBay, and well, I should've saved my money. I was pretty skeptical as I know that all the crap from China is just that, crap. But, they were pretty cheap and I've wanted the CF mirrors for a while. I love them when I see them on the E90s, so I figured it was worth a shot. Besides, something unique without the $$$ of the OEM M3 retrofit.
Anyway, they are caps, over the existing covers, held on by double sided tape. I was ok with that, but they aren't a perfect fit, and being that the car is white, you can see the edge of the white cover from the back side (for instance when you would be sitting in the car).. Obviously if I had a black car, this wouldn't be an issue so much. The weave looks good though so I guess that's not SO bad. But, they are paper thin so I don't expect them to last too terribly long. If I want to get really into it, I'll have the stock caps molded and then a proper cover made that completely replaces the stock caps...
Anyway, I'm 50/50 on the product right now. I love the look, I want to love the product, but I'm not 100% on them. So, aside from quality issues, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the look.

Thanks Cam... The broken clip issue really isn't much of an issue... The mirrors are completely steady and the covers haven't moved on me at all. I'm ok with things as they are...
Luckily I scored that set of OEM M3 mirrors from the pay it forward thread... I grabbed them with plans to slowly retrofit them as time allows, and also had this mod turned out to be a dud. So, I'll probably keep these until I get the M3 mirrors retrofitted (and CF capped as well...) :biggrin

One thing I really like as well is it gave me an idea what my mirror caps would look like painted black, and I like the look. Looks like I need to stop at Lowes today and pick up some gloss black paint.
Also loved the cameo of Mia's head and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Thanks dude... 33 years old, feel older sometimes! But, ready for a good day with my girls... My wife said we could do anything we want today... We have an appointment at the dealership. :shifty
Just be thankful that he blessed us with pictures.
Yeah yeah yeah... :rofl
Why don't you plastidip with black and use the glossifier or get some black vinyl for a few bucks? I know I sound like a broken record with all the plastidip suggestions, but I know I change my mind quite often. Reversible=nice
Personally, I hate the look of Plastidip, but I agree with you, reversible is nice. I suggest Plastidip with a coat of black paint over the top. Either way, gloss it up so it doesn't look cheap!

I liked the plastidip on the wheel but I do feel on something like the mirrors paint will be better.
Idk how plastidip will stand up to Florida love bug strikes.

I like them Joop....and the benefits of rice include its ability to provide fast and instant energy, regulate and improve bowel movements, stabilize blood sugar levels, and slow down the aging process, while also providing an essential source of vitamin B1 to the human body. Other benefits include its ability to boost skin health, increase the metabolism, aid in digestion, reduce high blood pressure, help weight loss efforts, improve the immune system and provide protection against dysentery, cancer, and heart disease. Rice is a fundamental food in many cultural cuisines around the world, and it is an important cereal crop that feeds more than half of the world’s population.
:rofl and this is why we love Dane.

Too funny Dane. I like 'em more so if there are some other c/f accents, not standalone. But, if fitment is an issue, no bueno. Can't really tell that from the pics.

I have the CF splitters and diffuser... I thought this would be a nice tie in piece between the two...

Then it makes sense to me. Can't really see that from the pics as well. It's always a tricky thing, where to add c/f vs. The tipping point going overboard. This to me is near the edge, but if done well it could certainly work.

Jon,
Personally I'm more of a fan of quality over anything else. They look good, but I would shop around for a higher quality product. Your car reeks of quality, and those covers IMO don't meet your standard.
If there was a real deal mirror cap that was CF, I'd go with that instead as I do think the concept looks good.

BP, you're exactly 100% right... I like the look, and I think I'll get something better, but the quality of these things is nowhere near good enough for my car. Like I said, the cost was low enough that I took a risk. Either way, lousy ebay feedback has been left..
Drain and refill the trans fluid this evening. Feels good to get stuff done

I could, but it is not an easy mod. If I was to do that I might as well just finish the ellipsoid/HID projector mod I started but never finished

JP, you just gave the E21 part of the three-pointed star. Now you want to swap them out? I think you'll be missing the added light output.

There's almost 3 days left on the auction, we'll see what it gets to.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. If anything I would have both sets of lights and can choose which ones I want depending on the mood I'm in. Mainly I wanted the euro turn signals, but this is a good deal for the whole set

maybe I will get 15 min in the future to reinstall bumper/fogs

Got the rubber piece that goes in the jack pad area for the car. Affiliate purchase via fcpeuro. Topped off coolant and windshield wiper fluids. Will reset SES light as I never got to it when I did my maint work.

Can u shoot a pic of the backside too? Is it just the center pin that takes any side loading (e.g. where car is at a bit of angle because one side is jacked up high), or are there flanges on the back?
Thx
