I originally thought the same, but so far it hasn't turned up. When I was on the phone filing a claim they had a couple of people check the warehouse. Apparently there's a pile of unclaimed tires. Tires are shipped lashed together in twos, and the driver thinks that it may have snapped somewhere in transit. Only one of the two tires has a label on it. I'm just hoping it turns up, or else I'm facing another 7ish day wait while they ship me a new one.

My shield went missing when the car was repainted, but as discussed I found it relatively useless, especially when they start to sag.
Also, it was too light out to check te output this morning, so I aimed everything tonight and I'm freaking thrilled... Left light is slightly dimmer than the left(need to trim the mount just a little more)

Same bulbs, I had a burnt zkw on drivers side and retrofitted e90 reflector on passenger that didn't work right because I had to modify the bowl to hold the bulb at the correct depth.
Last night I overhauled the e90 bowl install, got it right and then copied and pasted into the driver side.

Quick question guys, changed my expansion tank Thursday. No leaks, ran it until today with no leaks, today I turned the ac on and it spit some coolant, no biggie I checked everything and cleaned it up to pin point the leak. Seems to be coming from the smaller of the two openings on the upper rad hose. Its a new hose and new Et. Any idea why it would be dripping? It's a very slow leak and once it's dripped a bit it stops until the car cools down and then starts back up....

Just finished the oil service maintenance on the 325. That Bavarian Autosport oil sucker outer really works like a champ. All that's left is to return the old oil to Walmart, and see if they're smart enough to recycle it, or if they put it back on the shelf.

ZHP got replacement OEM taillight (ouch) to replace a foggy one with two rows of LEDS out. Also clear front bumper reflectors. Not all that impressed with those, especially since I managed to put a nice little crack in one of them while installing. Should have went with painted. Got half the fog light trim on, since they backordered one side.

And installed the Bimmian Euro mirror lenses. They look nice, and the swapout was easy peasy once you reconcile in your head that when they say the lens is for the "R" side, its really the one for the "L" side.

Last task for the day - the ZHP needs a bath. Got a date tonight, going to see "Spamalot" at the outdoor amphitheater. Most hilarious Broadway show ever, IMHO.

Drove it this morning to Oakland (yep, I took it to the hoody part as well :rofl) Parked it on the street, and I was pretty sure something was gonna get vandalized, perhaps someone might end up stealing my wheels.. Then my friend pulls up and parks his Aston Martin right around the corner and I suddenly don't care anymore..

I got back home a few hours later, everything on the car is fine, and I look in the garage a few hours later and my wagon has pissed out like 1/2 of its coolant! I pop the hood, the bleeder screw was broken, and it F'd up my expansion tank because the screw broke off in the expansion tank :(

i really need to wash my car, it's covered in water spots from recent rain, and the wheels are grimed up, but it's just sooo hot outside, and we're supposed to get more showers in the next day or so. bah.

and i'm still pissed about the long scratch on the side of my car. not sure that can be fixed without a $$$ paint correction.

also i have a giant pull to the left, that was diagnosed months ago as tire wear, but i'm not sure that i buy that tire wear alone could cause such a pull. might be something in the suspension, and i've also contemplated that maybe the steering wheel is one click off center from having been removed when i had water damage a few months ago. haven't disassembled fully to inspect tho.

other than the pull, she's driving like a champ and i love every second. will need brakes soon enough tho, i can tell they're starting to wear thin.

Expansion tank is maybe 18 months old as well as the hoses. I guess the screw bleeder screw just broke off in the upper hose because its pretty crappy quality even though its genuine BMW.

Yeah it does. I have a few things working for me though. My street is a dead end so it's quiet. It's also extremely steep (my camera is tilted as well), and as you can see I have perpendicular parking on the street. I have a lock for the car cover I will be putting on in a few minutes.

Plasti-dip? Mine could probably use a coat.

----------------------

Either the bulb or the ballast (I'm betting the ballast) has finally quit working on my passenger side headlight. It's been acting crazy since ownership, every now and then it wouldn't come on, then I could wait a few minutes, turn them off and back on it and it would pop on. This started out as a few times per year, then double that amount the following year, and increased and increased over the course of over 7 years to the point now where it doesn't come on at all, no matter what I do.

Any suggestions? Are the ballasts different between the two different types of headlights they put on face-lifted e46 sedans?? I'm bad with names, but I have the headlights that everyone wants already. Does anyone have one laying around they would let go of?

I'm going to go swap the bulbs just to make sure it isn't a bulb issue, but I really think its the ballast on that side, I don't think it would take 7 years for the bulb to go out. I could be wrong though, it wouldn't be the first time.

Thanks!

It probably seems crazy, but after sitting in the car holding the detector in both places, I think I'm going to go with the more expensive one. Its only a few inches difference, but it looks odd sticking out into the interior of the car from nowhere. The more expensive will tuck it back under the mirror and look better. I'm going to look around some more though for other options. I don't like the visor idea because if the passenger needs the visor, then it must come down.

http://www.e90post.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=142424&stc=1&d=1207257137

It's $69 shipped, but I prefer how the first mount angles back towards the glass so that the detector isn't sticking out into randomly into the car.

Thoughts? Any other suggestions?

Grab the cheaper mount and try to mod it to a different position? :dunno

I searched and cannot find any results, have any of your guys mounted your radar detectors from your rear-view mirror?

Now that my windshield is tinted, the tint shop told me to find a new solution for my radar detector, no more suction cups.

I'm searching and not having too much luck. I like the following mount...

Howabout a sun visor mount?

Better off 3D printing it. They usually only charge material and time. Shouldn't be more than 80.

I did some searching, I got $5 off for sharing on FB (included in the $131 I already posted), then found a coupon for another $16 off. I went ahead and ordered it.

I don't always have passengers, but if I did and they needed to use the visor, then the detector would have to come down.

That would have been fantastic! Oh well, I already ordered one. Thanks for the idea though!

Marcus, Devlin, others...

Looking at those two pics, it shows the one detector (the more desirable, tucked away) mounted onto a car with the RLS (the big black unit on the windshield)... The other one is mounted on a car without the RLS. Sooo, you might be stuck with one location based on what type of rearview mirror you have. I'm just saying, be prepared if its not exactly like the the images...

Either way, its a great looking mounting option, way classier than suction cups, and can prolly be modded like Dane mentioned. Very nice!

I swapped out my steering coupler and my swaybar endlinks. The latter were one heck of a PITA... 100k miles of crap and rust warranted generous use of PB Blaster. And I washed it after I was done with that.

I'll drain the oil Thursday and refill with 0W30, and I should be done with maintenance for the summer.

Drove to work, on the way (5 minute commute) my windshield washer fluid level light came on. I just topped it off last week so either the dealer drained it for some reason when they installed my windshield, or I spring a leak somewhere...

One thing gets fixed and two more things break. DOES IT EVER END?!

Here is my list...

-- FCABS (purchased, need installed)
-- CA's (need to be purchased and installed)
-- End links (need to be purchased and installed, but no one seems to know if I need adjustable's with my sport cup kit or not)
-- Tie rod ends (need to be purchased and installed)
-- Rear tire (need to order, and have mounted and balanced)
-- 4 wheel alignment (needs done after all of the above is purchased and installed)
-- Headlight ballast (needs to be purchased and installed)
-- Windshield washer fluid tank and or hose needs replaced, and then refilled.
-- City inspection needs
-- Tag is due this month
-- Oil Change coming up soon
-- Diff is still dripping
-- Needs washed
-- Needs waxed
-- Leather needs conditioned

In the past
Week...
-- Replaced faulty coolant hose, refilled with BMW coolant and distilled water, bled off air
-- New windshield, trim, cowl, etc
-- Technician cleared my airbag light
Month...
-- New RTAB's installed (still need an alignment)

I need to hit the lotto

+1. Needs an additional 3" on top for a Sedan. The Coupe might have a different rake on the windshield. Might need more than 3". Trying to figure out how to supplement the missing gap. If not, looking for another shade from a different model code that would fit an E46.

That is crazy. They advertise it as FOR the E46 and that fitment looks horrible. Ugh and I just ordered the sunshade a few days ago. I am glad I am getting 3M crystalline tint on my car in the next week or so. Its pricey, but with that and the sunshade my interior should last a long time even when parked outdoors.

edit: and yet it looks like it fits ok in the "official" picture from BMW: http://www.trademotion.com/sfimages/214336/partImages/4462/SFPLImage86712.jpg

Only options seem to be expose the front of the dash or have that big gap at the top of the windshield.

I had one of these in my last car, fit was excellent. The only issue is that after quite a few years, it somehow got air inside and it would puff up when in the windshield for a while... Wouldn't be too hard to put some slits in the sides to prevent it, I just never did. It just made it even more PITA to roll up... Oh well... Still a worthwhile purchase in my eyes. I might do this again if the OEM one doesn't fit too well.

Awesome. I like to use M105, M205, Griots Garage One step sealant, Griots Garage Best in show wax, fwiw. The first two because they're proven to work and easy to use. The GG products because I can by them at Advance Auto, they're easy to use, and I love the results.

Thanks for the tips!!! There's SOOOO many products out there, and a guy can get lost pretty quick trying to sort through them all. It's nice to hear what's working in the real world.

you don't want the official sunshade, it doesn't fit quite right

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c288/jhermes/eae139da.jpg

hell, it fits the E38 better so it's in that car now

Me thinks they used a different shade to make it look like it is form fitting. Anybody here works in a BMW Parts Dept. to do a fitting comparison on heightwise? Will be greatly appreciated.

Never measured it but that looks similar to the gap I have on the coupe.

Sent from the Last Next Best Thing.

Perhaps it's supposed to sit in the slit we have running across our dash?

Little stroke of genius right there.

I just tried it. It fits the height perfectly that way.

Sent from the Last Next Best Thing.

^ no way if the brochure pic is to be believed, that is all the way at the bottom of the window

edit: since Keith posted at the same time I did...

Keith, can you take a pic to see if it looks the same as the pre-facelift pictured? If so, I'm re-positioning it back in the E46

Doesn't sit perfectly flat, but here you go.

That said, if laid flat all the way to the bottom and side to side, then it will be short height wise.

they did some "shady" (hehe) angles with the brochure picture to make the windshield wipers hide the fact that the shade doesn't go all the way down. So it looks like part of our dash is still going to get some sun.

Exactly.

Only options seem to be expose the front of the dash or have that big gap at the top of the windshield.

I have one of these. It's ugly but it does its job effectively and it fits well. It's a PITA to roll it up every-time when you get into your car but it really helps keep some heat out and it protects your dashboard pretty well.

I would prefer a BMW folding sun shield like the one JP folded but they don't fit too well..

I have a sunshade from Walmart in both the E46 and E38. Fits fine and paid $10 each :dunno

Was looking at one of those for the CX-5.

Sent from the Last Next Best Thing.

I'd get it. It's a pretty solid product, its worth rolling it up every time, at least you are protecting your interior and keeping some heat out.

Hmm. Mine hasn't puffed up yet.. It is a few years old but it's holding up very well.

I have the springy kind that you bend/fold (from Brookstone) and it fits the windshield OK (but barely). Worth getting if they still have them.

Good deal. Appreciate the info.

Phew - this week was a big week for the ZHP. It received a new tri-stitch Coby wheel, tri-stitch boots, and a V1 hardwire with a concealed display located on the left part instrument cluster dash trim. Pretty sure I'll be taking the CDV off this weekend, and I may with some luck decide to grow the cojones to to maybe kinda sorta possibly attempt the instrument cluster V1 concealed display install. That's asking a lot though. Please excuse the scheiße quality of the pictures. I just took them real quick to show y'all.

There was a card in the box for a few more products, such as this one to protect the corners of the bumper where a bumper bully does not reach. It appears to be much more subtle than other solutions I have seen. I might order a color sample and see how it matches up. check it out:

Took about half hour on the E38. Hardest part was pulling the arm off after unbolting it. Still wasn't too difficult. Pretty sure both arms must be removed on the E46.

It's a ceramic, either 36 or 38% transmittance, I can't recall exactly. Has great heat rejection, which was more what I was after. The 20% my car had on it was just way too dark for me. And the rear and sides were 2004 vintage, and had taken on that awesome purplish hue. It really needed to come off.

You can tell you're getting older when it takes you longer to recover from a full days worth of detail. Back in the old days I'd be right back at it within a day or two doing another car. Now it's more like a week or two. Which means the little frau's Touring is next in line starting this weekend. :headbang

I just added a keyhole cover from Ind. Like a bonehead I didn't put a towel down under the door, and naturally dropped it on the cement while trying to fit the new piece back into the hole. :facepalm

So it's a bit scuffed on the outside edge, but it's only fairly noticeable when looking at it from the 3/4 angle.

I think it's an ok addition, but frankly I'm not sure how long I'll stick with it. Sometimes I can be like a female constantly changing their mind like trying to figure out what hairstyle looks best. :)

This is all new to us :eyetwitch

Yes, it does have the latch anchors. You'll see them under the little plastic clips in the bottom corners... Lemme know if you need and I can take some photos. And yes, we do have a seat protector underneath, it has some non-skid grippy thing on the underside too. Honestly though, a towel would prolly work just fine. The only benefit is that ours has some pockets that hang down under the car seat for storage... Again, lemme know if you want some photos.

Just wrapped up a 4.5 hour total cooling system and pulley update. Thanks to the DIY on bmw330ci and a 6 pack of Brau Brothers RingNeck ale (shout out to my wife's uncle and cousins that are the masters behind http://braubeer.com)
the job couldn't have gone smoother.

My first DIY with my "new" ZHP. What a fantastic car.

Wow, I had a lot to catch up on!

I'm doing an 8-week self prep course for the DAT. This is my 3rd and final time to be able to take it, so its pretty serious. If I don't do well, then I can kiss my dream of being a Dentist (that I realized nearly 9 years ago and have been working very hard towards ever since) goodbye!

As for the ZHP... That radar detector mount that I spoke of about 4 pages back came in. I haven't been able to drive much with it yet (I work 5 minutes from home), it seems very sturdy, but perhaps I have it clamped down too hard? It seems to make the mirror shake some and thats very annoying. I need to find some time to mess with it soon. Here is that pic for reference.

http://maxcdn.nexternal.com/mgt/images/bmw-bbe-74.jpg

I also took the car, with its tinted windshield, through city inspection thinking they wouldn't notice its tinted. Well, they did, and they failed me. I told the guy I have a Dr.'s note for it, but forgot to bring it. He said it should be no problem getting it passed if I come back with a Dr.'s note. Now I need to get to get an eye exam and sweet talk my Optometrist into writing me one. I have two other options, option one, the rumor is that since the city is broke, they are going to squash the city inspection program all together at the end of the month (PRAYING!). Option two is to register my car in the county. I have a few addresses I can use.

Good luck! Worst case scenario, if you have to pull the tint, have that done and retint it with Llumar Air Blue 80... As soon as I replace my windshield, I'll be doing that. Almost completely clear, but rejects heat and UV like no other!!

Great minds....On thursday I am getting all my windows (including windshield) tinted with 3M Crystalline tint 90. Similar properties. Clear but rejects UV and heat. What's wrong with your windshield?

Hey guys.

So i am in the process of buying a used ZHP front bumper (OEM). But it does not include fogs, the lower mesh grille, or trim. The trim and lower mesh grille is no problem. I have some extra trim at home. I'll get a new grille from a dealer.

But the fogs, I figure since they probably get damaged from rock chips and pitting etc.. Why should I pay an arm and a leg for OEM ones if they will need to be changed every other year to look nice..

So, any thoughts/opinions on these fogs?

I would look into Llumar and more specifically, their FormulaOne line... Its insanely good, and you don't pay as muchf having a 3M branded product... But either way, good luck, having the tint will be awesome. As for my windshield, has a small chip in it, but eventually I want to get it replaced with one that has the rain sensor already incorporated. :thumbsup

Thanks, and I agree. It can't be a coincidence that the perf. diffuser perfectly fits the perf. exhaust, yet it looks ridiculous without it. For now I like it without the spoiler as it's very understated, but the spoiler itself isn't over the top, either.

Well then you're one listen away from buying it! Don't listen to it!!!!
