I'm going to be sending that back to Stuart this week. I'm shipping it back with my manual trans output flanges on it so it will be a drop in for anyone with a manual trans.

So maybe it gets lost in the mail. ends up in NC, and then Stuart starts receiving random payments, eventually totaling the cost of the diff? :dunno ;)

Did the old ones come out fairly easy? What's the torque spec for those?

Can't remember the spec off hand, but they did come out fairly easily with some PB blaster and a swivel extension. Be prepared to scuff some knuckles.

My glove compartment never worked the same ever since I removed it. It would make this awful noise when it opened. Tonight, I realized I could adjust the 4 screws holding the hinges to make it open and close without a noise! Works awesome now. Took me forever to get it dialed in but now I'm a happy camper. :)

Oh, for those that have noticeable ZHP cube trim gap between the passenger dash trim and the center dash trim, you can reduce the gap by taking off the passenger dash trim and putting in the left side first then pressing in the others. If you start on the right/door side then you'll get a large obnoxious gap.

Yea it was hard to tell what size they were from the pic and the description. Those are the input flange bolts. They are longer than the output flange bolts.
Input flange bolts are torqued to 63 ft lbs. output flange bolts 61 ft lbs

Applied the Lamin-X film to my second headlight yesterday. It went on much better, and today, it looks better after one day than the other side does after a week. Wonder if I did it too soon after the headlight polishing incident, or something.

This morning....dipped a toe in the murky waters of recoding, using the infamous BMW Scanner 1.4.0 and an ancient XP laptop. Got my New/used OEM alarm up and running. Turned off the 37 degree warning beep, which scared the crap out of me every time it went off. I've got the remote open and close of the windows and sunroof engaged, but it isn't closing the rear windows. Need to go back in and look at that, or maybe its a "coupe window" thing with the switches, like how the one-touch close doesn't work without modifying them. Anyway, I got in and got out without the car blowing up, so that's good. Of course, I haven't actually tried to start it yet....

jgt_zhp

Ah - Thanks for checking!

I had a suspicion that I it won't dim smoothly as OEM. This would (personally) be prohibitive in my case.
(The crooked-ness of the array that you mentioned combined with non-smooth dimming just nixes khoalty choice for me now)

I am going to research other makes/companies which might have LED domes that ensures OEM like operation...Will update.

Not that I have any obsessive compulsive issues or anything, but my less-than-ultimate-quality Khoalty 12 LED panel in the dome light is driving me nuts. And it's sure bright enough that you can't ignore it when it's on. The whole panel sits at about a 15 or 20 degree angle, tilted towards the driver's side, and frankly, it looks like shit. Next project, pull out the dome light...again, open it up...again. If it won't square up by itself, there's going to be a McGyver quality spacer going in behind it. I'm thinking paper clip and chewing gum. Just need to figure out what flavor of gum goes best with a black interior.

I like my Phillies plates, so I've been on the fence about changing for about a year.

Yes, I've got the Dinan Stage 2 software right now. I'd like to do a Sprintbooster/Sport button, but it looks like it'll be about $400 or so for that mod, more than its worth to me right now. I don't NEED them, but I'm leaning towards brakes... Not sure why. It'd be nice to have them done and on the car. Hmm..

Another round of "point, click, leave it on the porch", this time for both cars, and somewhat maintenance oriented.

On the way from Bavarian Autosport

Windshield sunscreen for the ZHP
Oil filters
Oil filter cap socket
Fog light trim for ZHP - needs both sides
Top side oil sucker outer - I like the easy way
Sunroof shade tabs for the 325 - it's been broken for 4 years, might as well fix it
Air filter and cabin filter for the 325

From Bimmian

Clear front bumper reflectors for the ZHP
Euro mirror lenses for the ZHP
Wheel wax - my #2 set of style 135s is finally getting refinished this week, and will become my #1 set. Other set will either become my winter wheels or get sold. My GF assumes that by taking my 325, she also gets my winter wheel/tire set up. Dang, she got a heck of a deal on that car!

I had a Weiss Licht LED dome light setup in my Bimmian cart, then decided to think about it some more. I know I went on the cheap with my Khoalty interior LED kit. It's really the 12 LED panel I'm unhappy with, but I'm thinking about maybe getting a Ziza kit from ECS. Looks like a quality alternative. We'll see.

Also toying with going yellow for the fogs and/or the halogen high beams. Whole new kettle of fish - yellow Lamin-X, yellow bulbs and Lamin-X, HIDs, who knows what other possibilities? Been perusing the Lighting forum, we'll see what develops.

Raining cats and dogs today. Might entertain myself with some coding on the 325.

I've had the Bilstiens on the car for several weeks now... I love these shocks! The ride is so much better than it was with the Koni yellows. The Konis must of really been beat or maybe I had them turned up too high. I never messed with the adjustment that much because with the way my strut bar is designed, I had to completely remove it to adjust it.

One thing I noticed is that the car sits about an inch higher in the front since I put the Bilsteins on. It's not bad because it was really too low before.
I thought that the Bilsteins would of settled in now that I have over 1k on them... What do you guys think?

cakM3
05-27-2013, 11:53 AM
Rob, I would have guessed the same thing. After putting on 1k the suspension should have settled in by now....

One thing I have noticed with a lower stance is that you have to be more aware of what is in front of you when driving since you don't have as much clearance and going up driveways can somewhat be a challenge due to scraping of the lip (if mounted) or tail pipes.....not a good thing....but that's the price you pay for lowered rides...;)

Believe the vert rear is slightly narrower than the coupe/sedan, might explain your rub. Recall the trunk is slightly narrower, think that carries into the overall rear end design.

- Hoses
- Stewart water pump
- Thermostat
- Exspansion Tank
- Pulleys
- Belts
- Coolant
- Sensors

Apparently my entire system was original, 119K on her. Everything was a Beouch getting apart as far as the hoses and Ex tank. Snapped off the Auto Trans Tstat under the Exspansion Tank. Dealer closed until Tuesday, nobody in town has one. Dealer wants $100 for it! Order one thru Turners and a new AFE dry filter for $110. Also more parts from ECS. Parts won't be here until Sat if not Monday.
So she sits waiting...

I know my ZHP isn't special, but I wanted the BMW logo, insurance sent me $707 and told me to have anyone I wanted do it. Between the tint and the labor I hope to only be out $300. We'll see Thursday.

---------------

Hope I made the right decision with the tint, the place that tinted the rest of the car only had two options for me. Option 1 was a 50% film that would reflect 97% of the heat out of the car (multiple layers of product) and would run $260 (YIKES), benefit, heat reduction, benefit lighter than the other windows, less likely to get a tint ticket, con, price, con wouldn't match the other tint. Option 2 was to go with the same 35% on the rest of the car at $110. I first said Option 1, then switched to Option 2. I've been researching laws and all I need is a note from my eye doctor saying I need the windshield tinted to reduce glare and UV rays; I haven't been to my eye doctor in a few years (we lost vision at work about a year ago). Hopefully I can talk him into it, and I need to go anyway.

I think it pulls off the look pretty good. Fitment is good too, if it wasn't xdrive id do wheel spacers on it to pull them out nicely, but don't feel like messing with that

I have had these for almost two weeks now and they are error free.

However they are not as bright as I would have hoped (I am being a bit picky I'll admit that) so Friday I will be receiving the 6 led version and trying those out.

Will post pictures after.

Thanks for posting and response from my PM. I was wondering on your initial photos on #2222 with three led..they were bright enough.....please post pics of the three and the six leds. I hate it too bright...they might look like some kind of landing lights for an airstrip....Presently, I have the 6 leds, they were really bright that I had to turn them around so they would shine to the reflector and let the reflector do its job. Oh yeah...one of the led bulb have 'burned out' that's why I need a replacement.

Well, while the car was up for the starter swap yesterday, I took the time to shave the rear wheel well studs/plastic that was causing my rubbing. So, this morning, after my workout I took a little drive to the corners that always cause me to rub...

Well, 2-3 days ago I noticed a strange small puddle where my car had been parked in the shop at work. It was clear, wasn't brake fluid and I thought perhaps it was coolant, but disregarded it thinking perhaps it was from the guy that had just left having been parked there too.

On my way home this morning from a safety meeting the coolant light comes on. I'm only a block from home so I just monitored the temp gage and put her in the garage.

I pop the hood and it looks as though the vent screw is leaking. I removed the intake to get a better look and do not see water spewing anywhere. I attempt to remove the vent screw and the top snaps off with my screwdriver. Awesomeness. I remove the tank cap to see if there was any remaining pressure on the system and it comes off with no trouble, no spewage, so I'm pretty sure (yet hopeful) it is just this vent screw that has failed.

Any idea on how to get the bottom part of it out? I've tried a few things but don't want to ruin the hose. I have to go pick up my windshield at 3 and take it back to the dealer so they can install it tomorrow, hoping to have it out so that I can just buy the vent screw and not the entire hose while I'm out there.

Can you "notch" what's left and then back it out?

Super glue and a wooden skewer for kabob's?

Just throwing out idea's here. :)

Thanks for the idea's, I've tried to silicone the top back on (its too wet in there), I've tried to somewhat "notch" it a few different ways, but it just seems to be crumbling (cheap plastic!), I think I would have the same luck with superglue as silicone (too wet). It's really tight in there, hoping letting it cool and dry will contract it some. Dealer has the part for $4X.XX, ugh, I just replaced it not two years ago, maybe I should take it out of the car (since I might have to anyway) and see what can be done.

Expansion tank is fine (thank goodness), its just the upper radiator hose. I pulled it off to see if I could get the vent screw out, still no luck and in the process I've skinned up the flat surface at which the vent screw's rubber o-ring crushes to create a seal. So I'm just going to have to buy another upper radiator hose.

My better half and I have been talking about getting a second BMW, and I just don't see that happening until we get more established (and sell one of our two properties), every day something seems to go wrong with my car. Last night the driver-side headlight wouldn't come on. This has been happening off and on over the course of the past 5 years, but it usually comes on after a few minutes or if I click them off and back on, but I couldn't get it to come on at all last night.

At least its paid for!

Around tow weeks ago during the Jack Cavanough Clean Car Contest...I was walking around and inquired to the folks on how they installed their splitters to the lower front air dam.....some answers were when they purchased the vehicle...they were already installed. And some others, they did install them by themselves. At first the did the double back tape route. But found out that there were gaps after install. So, they removed them and used liquid nail on approximately 3 or 4 strategic spots. And they hold up real well without gaps. But do not liquid nail the whole top mating area. Just passing some info techniques.....

I installed new headlights with E90 projectors (bought from jack.chris 328 on E46Fanatics - GREAT seller), new lenses, and Orion V2s from Umnitza. It's great to finally be able to SEE again at night!

Wish I'd at least wiped down the lenses before taking this pic, though. It had rained *just* enough to get them all spotty.

How are the e90 projectors? I've had issues with my rigged bulb holder keeping the bulb flush. I also think there is an issue with the depth of the bulb in the projector and its position due to the difference in bulbs used. My lights are 100X better than before however the cutoff is vague (don't care) and while I haven't lost the high beam shutters, switching to high doesn't illuminate the road like it should which I believe is due to the position of the bulb in the projector being off. I intend on pulling them for a third time to try again.....

I should clarify that I also have e90 projectors.

From what I can tell, mine are just fine. My driver's side bowl wasn't burnt badly at all, and I think the light output is about the same as before. The highs were never anything to write home about, as far as I'm concerned. They don't seem to be any better or worse with the E90 projectors.

Easy, just take a flat blade screwdriver and heat it up. Push it down into the broken piece. Let it cool for a minute or so and then unscrew it. Works like a charm!

I was thinking that's what's rubbing on mine too...I'll have to check it out..

Basically what I did was look and see that my only rub spots were the little bit of the inner plastic liner that went up to the bolt. I trimmed a good size portion out of the plastic liner where it was rubbing. I also repositioned the bumper clip so that it held a little tighter and fit a little more flush. I put the nut back on and then trimmed the stud down so that it wouldn't stick out quite as far. But, looking at my initial rub marks, I think the plastic trimming was what really helped...

I'll jack it up and get some pics...

Thats what the parts guy at the dealership suggested. I tried and tried and tried and still couldn't get it out. I'm glad I went ahead and bought the replacement hose while I was there incase I couldn't get it out. Thanks for the help!

------------------

Well, she's in surgery at the dealership. I am (so far) quite pleased with their service, as I always was back when the car was under warranty and extended warranty/maintenance. The lady that used to help me still works there and she still was able to give me a loaner (for the night). We had a good discussion about why it was a good idea to go back with OEM glass and she explained why they have to keep the car overnight (give it plenty of time to cure). I even got to meet the tech that will be doing the work as he wanted to see if I wanted to have the cow replaced. I guess my advisor didn't notice that that was also to be done at the same time and that I had already purchased those parts as well.

So here is my loaner for the night, bare-bones s-drive 28i auto. The color is meh, but wow, its fast and its kind of growing on me.

The butt-dyno says it would be a really close drag race with my ZHP, possibly slight advantage with the ZHP 6-speed manual, but I'm not so sure, the 8-speed auto is FANTASTIC, especially with that engine, I haven't experience any turbo lag yet, but then again I'm not used to driving turbo car's and I've only driven it about 30 miles.

I'll snap some better pic's this afternoon.

Took my Mini to the indy for the 2nd time in two weeks. The first time, they changed the oil but didn't reset the service indicator. Also, the SES light came on. They said yesterday the service indicator was not reset because the cabin filter was not changed. Also, the SES light was on due to the gas cap not closed properly.

$50 later, I'm a happy camper again.

I heavily prefer the gloss piano black grills to the matte. The shine displays a sense of luxury/sophistication that the matte lacks, plus it matches our gloss shadowline trim. I dunno why, but I like the stock chrome on my silver grey and it'll probably be one of the last things I change.

Cleaned TB and ICV, and patched up my upper intake boot with electric tape. It was starting to crack a little, but not there yet. I'll buy a new one in my next parts order.

My throttle body was nasty. I emptied a full can of cleaner in it and i still had to scrub the crap off of it. Acceleration is much smoother now, and deceleration as well.

Hopefully some of that city MPG will come back as well.

Well done Chad. I'm in the middle of (ok, the beginning) an FX-R retrofit right now. You'll enjoy the new light output for sure...

Chad - I couldn't help but notice you didn't have a heat shield on the inside panel of your hood, did you take it permanently off?

^Same here. Had to cut it for the performance strut brace and then ended up just removing it all together.

My understanding is that it's for sound deadening, not heat.

Then by golly it's coming STRAIGHT OUT of my car.

FOTY award goes to you sir! Is he permanently keeping it, or are you taking it back after he heads off to school again? LOL
Thanks. I'd planned for it to be his car all along--though I have gotten quite attached to it. We sold his '02 33oCi shortly after he left for Europe as he wanted a sedan. He will be driving it to SC when he heads back to school in the Fall.
I'm trying to talk my VP of Finance (read wife) into letting me pick up another ZHP for me and my 18YO to share--marketing campaign continues.

Does that mean he is joining us on zhpmafia? Hope he enjoys all the customize work :)
Tony, I hope to get him to join the mafia, but he is not a big forum person--marketing campaign continues. Maybe I need to hire a consultant!

I will continue here and force him to be part of the mods and maintenance going forwards. We have headlight leveling and Aux jack on the short list. I"m sure he'll have more like tint, etc.

I can confirm this. I've had mine out for 60k miles (at least) and no issues.

I think it's time for mine to go too. I noticed at the meet that it doesn't fit anymore...

I think I got mine too wet one time and now the bottom end near the windshield has fallen out. It doesn't sag too much, but the stuffing is coming out and is getting my engine bay filthy with that and the dust it creates as well.

^Yep. That stuff is nasty. After I cut the liner to fit the strut brace that crap was worse than pollen. It got everywhere.

Mine (ours?) sags at all the spots where it is supposed to connect (the tabs). Had not thought of removing it. Now you have me thinking.

Link to painted grilles. All the grilles are two piece. The outer frame is separate from the slats. Khoalty sends the frames out for custom paint. They look like this when you get them:

Got a reply from Kevin. They do not carry the Mystic Blue Metallic on their color code. So, I will have to do the painting of the wrap around. Do the Matte or Piano Grills come separate from the slats when you guys ordered them?

And was also inquiring if the slats are in matte or piano black.

I would take it that it is easier to paint over the matte black than over a piano black. Please confirm. Thanks.

Updated my project thread. New brakes all the way around over last weekend. Also put the splitters on, but they need some work so I'll post pics up once I shore up some spots.

Thank you!

I consider splitters to be a "wear item" I plan to order my 4th pair soon! Those lower lips were a little banged up when I bought the car (7 years ago) and she does usually have a pair on her to cover that rash up.

The bigger plan/picture, however, is yes, to get the entire front of the car re-sprayed. The 90k I've put on her has been a lot of highway miles and the entire front of the car (and the previous windshield) is pitted really badly. It doesn't show up in pictures though, thank goodness! I don't like non-OEM paint though (stays soft for so long), so step one to getting the car re-painted (basically a new front bumper, and new paint back to the B-pillars) is to buy another beater car. That way after she is painted she can sit in my hot garage all summer and the paint can cure. Hopefully that will happen next year.

Yes, I'm a bit OCD/crazy about my non-special car.

Its illegal here too, and on other cars I've only done 50%, we'll see how this goes. I've done some reading online about getting a doctors note, that might be an option if I start getting cop attention.

Just finished a full detail on the X3.... Waaaaay overdue.

This of course was following a full brake cleanup/paint and detail on my brothers S2000.

Tomorrow we'll do a quick wash of the ZHP and then maybe another photoshoot. :)

Received 3 of my 4 new tires today. Fedex lost one of them in transit. :jawdrop

So I just opened a claim, now I guess I just wait and hope it turns up. Damn FedEx.
