Clears are still in transit. Should be here by the end of this week!

I was checking out some LS V8's yesterday.. I have decided on a LS7 (7.0L V8, 505 HP) OR an LS3 (6.2L V8, 430HP), Tremec tr 060 6 speed tranny, E46 M3 rear subframe with reinforcements plates etc.. Custom driveshaft, custom headers, hi flow cats, quad exhausts. The wagon should be the quite the beast if I go through with this plan in the next few years :pimp

Basically An E46 version of this

IMO an LS3 would most likely be cheaper and more reliable. The LS7 has had a few problems with the lifters and a few other parts failing. Seems to be hit or miss though. You could just put a cam in the LS3 while you were at it if you wanted some more power.

Sweet project though.

I just though of that actually. I remembered that I could just cam the Ls3 when I am ready to, and it will make some stupid power. Ugh, so much money though for this project.. Once I am done with college and my job is stable and making me some good money, I will go balls to the walls with this project. I plan to retain AC, a fully functioning instrument cluster, and all that good stuff.

After hearing my Dad's S62 in his E39 and checking out two s65 (M3 V8 powered) Z4 race cars yesterday I have established that V8 power is the only way to go.

Would be sick if you kept it stock looking with a quiet exhaust and electric dumps.

Jordan, are you gonna get BAR certified?

as for me, installed a working antenna

...and finished disassembly of my AC blower.

I'll put the new center console and Alpine deck in today.

^ nice shoes, I love Adidas ;)

Yeah, I am going to try to get the car BAR certified, I want everything to be CA smog legal. It will be difficult, but I think it can be done. Hopefully.

That E21 looks like so much fun to drive. I think I am going to ask this nice gentleman around the corner if he wants to sell his, I have only seen him drive it once. It's black on tan, 5 speed, all original, and it even has the nice BBS wheels on it!

While I was swapping out my diff, I noticed that one of my rear Konis was leaking. Replaced them with Bilsteins today. Still gotta do the struts... I was kinda disappointed that they were leaking even though they have 70k on them, then I saw that the shafts were corroded and severly pitted. They went right to the scrap metal pile. No rebuilding them.

Also, Got my new splitters on... finally. I used SS screws and fender washers on the bottom and double sided tape on the top. I used a stepped drill bit to drill the holes and supported the back with a block of wood. This kept the holes nice and clean. I'm pretty happy with the way they turned out. Like Jupiter said, the fit isn't perfect but I think they look damn good...With my car lowered, I only have a few inches of clearance though.

For comparison, here are my old CF ones from a few years back. My car isn't lowered in this pic.

Which differential are you running now? I plan on swapping out my diff and subframe during the reunion since I will be surrounded by awesome experts in that procedure. :) I realized that I have a 3.46 and not a 3.38 diff to swap into. :) I got a subframe with really good bushings from chad earlier today as I gave him my old one. Got that and getting it ready to be installed as well.

Thanks bud! Honestly, Samba Millenium's are some of the best driving shoes ever.

If you need help with the swap let me know, I'm just a plane ride away. My sister goes to Cal so I can always just blame my trip on her ;)

As for that E21, send me some pics. They might be slow, but are fun to drive and get great gas milage (I can get 35+ if I keep it under 70). Sounds like that one might be a real 320is. It should have the same steering wheel I posted, 13x5.5 BBS', A REAR SWAY BAR (the easiest way to tell a real one, but it's possible that was added later), on the top passenger side of the diff neck there should be an imprinted huge S (it should also be on the diff tag, assuming its still there), and Recaro seats. I personally consider the 320is the first version of M-Tech cars, its basically just a factory upgraded 320 in same way how a ZHP is an upgraded 330. Difference is at the time there were no ///M cars, so that was the best US 3er (323i was a better car but wouldn't pass smog so only available in Grey Market). Definitely check it out and keep me updated.

Yeah, it has those wheels. It has sheepskin's on the front seats so I can't tell if they are Recaros.. I'll check the steering wheel next time I walk by, and I will get some pictures of it too.

I washed the ///M for the first time today with Turtle Wax's No Rinse Wash solution. (Basically a cheaper Optimum No Rinse) All I can say is wow!! Where has this sh!t been my whole car driving life?!? It's perfect for detailing in between washes and for cleaning up bird dirt. It'll come in handy now that pollen season is back. I wiped my front windshield and this is what my blue microfiber looked like...

Then she texted me and asked if I disconnected my rear brakes :shifty

Spent the weekend under the hood of the ZHP. I replaced the oil filter housing gasket and CCV valve/hoses, then I cleaned the idle control valve and rebuilt the DISA with the GAS rebuild kit. I definitely do not ever want to do the CCV valve job again. The GAS DISA rebuild kit and their DIY are excellent if anyone is thinking about going that route.

I thought Germans were big people, there were a bunch of places that my hands simply would not fit. I had to get Mrs. ICTZHP to remove and install some of the air intake hose clamps for me. Happy Mother's Day to her!!! It was quite satisfying to start the car up and back out of the garage after all of the work that had been done.:roundel

I tried to find the E46 12x1.5 oem wheel locks. I gave the two sets I had away back in December. My memory of parts I have and don't have is getting bad.

Sorry to those that were interested

Also, I am buying back the LSD diff from Kpro - awhile back I had multiple diffs sitting in the garage and I seem to have mixed up the 3.15 and the 3.46 LSD diffs I had.

So, I will have a 3.15 LSD avail if anyone is interested. I will let it go for $1500 since it isn't the 3.46 - the buyer from E46 got a great deal - and never complained about the 250 higher RPM on highway.

OK, here is my status - I have NCS Expert working.

I coded the current LCM and the new to enable bi xenon with halogen for highbeams and to NOT turn off fogs when flash to pass or high beams…this thing is going to be a space ship with high beams on…

I reactivated the euro flashers

And on the new module the three blinks - BUT, I HAVE THE TAMPER DOT with the new LCM and couldn’t figure out how to get rid of it…I tried to go in through Progman to code a replacement but I couldn’t get progman to see more than 12.4v at pin 30…even with my huge/consistent charger with various settings for volts/amps (and this charger has worked with another persons progman before)

So, I have my original LCM in there right now.

Further…

I coded key controlled roll up of windows and folding with key mirrors and changed the max speed for which I can fold the mirrors - I can now do it while on the road instead of dead stop

I need to remember to turn off NAV accept (I had it before but with my meddling tonight I lost it)

So, left to do (that I can think of) is NAV accept, tamper dot removal (and checking coding on that LCM) and then hope that none of the automatic trans coding has seeped back in…ugh….

I can't wait for a few of you guys to become NCS Expert experts! I have wanted coding done for years, maybe I can make the reunion next year and have one of y'all code her up for me...

This is a really good deal! I have this diff in my car right now... there is a slight performance gain going from the 3.07 to 3.15 but more importantly this is a well built, modified M3 style unit in a 330 housing... direct bolt in...

I'm disappointed with an Indy I decided to try.

I got a 2005 Mini Cooper one month ago. It was leaking a little oil, so I took it over there. They changed the oil and replaced the "O ring crankshaft sensor". My Dad went to pick up the car and I didn't drive it for some days. Yesterday I noticed the SES light is on plus they didn't reset the oil interval.

Now, I need to go again so they can make things right !

Hmmm, considering this will be my 3rd (or 4th) pair of spotters, maybe I should stick to that which is readily available.

As for the x5, I still look at them every 4-5 months, but our previous talks of transmission issues and other maintenance issues keep me from pulling the trigger. This boring Homda CR-V needs to go though. Maybe we'll look at current body x5's when the new ones come out and resale takes a dip.

I took off my bumper trim pieces for a respray in PlastiDip. It's temporary, but it gets the job done.
There is ONE piece that literally got blown over by the wind right after spraying. It ended up on the floor, and needless to say got all fudged up as it wasn't dry yet. Quickly wiped it off and resprayed. I have to redo that one as it's very rough and crappy, just ran out of time to do it today.

Not telling which one. :shifty

Still need to do the side trims. Those aren't bad, only very slightly grey, so I'll just spray those black paint when I redo my bumper trims in actual paint instead of PD.

It puts a protective film on everything and hides minor imperfections, especially on plastic.

Is the film petroleum based? Wouldn't that attract dirt/dust similar to Armor All? I have been looking for a protective film for the engine bay for a while now...if this is the real thing, then I better start finding out where I can get those......Thanks.

All plastic, and all painted and bare metal, and all hoses (I've used it on everything). I spray it on, and wipe it off. Leaves everything very clean. I usually blow out the engine bay with compressed air first though.

yesterday i came out to my car parked in a public garage and there was a ~3 foot scratch along the driver side body panel right above the rear wheel. this thing is nasty looking. someone def. keyed my car. i worked at it for 2.5 hours with the Quixx Scratch Removal kit, and while it looks better, it's still blatantly noticeable. i'm pretty pissed about it.

the only upside is that the Quixx kit got rid of the black scuff marks from when some douchebag knocked my side mirror off and it scraped against the door panel. so, some scuffs removed, while another gnarly one was added.

it's frustrating when you work SO HARD to take care of one of your few nice possessions and people either go out of their way or just don't give a fuck enough to mess with your shit. F people.

Hardwired my radar detector. Proved to be a bit more difficult because I didn't get power through the sunroof wire (because I have no sunroof), most likely because there is no fuse...or whatever.

Did an Add-A-Circuit and plugged it into the fuse box, wired up through the A Pillar and we are all good now.

Geebus that's a lot of coin! Are you just replacing yours or are you making efforts to install one with the rain/light sensor? I still want to do this and eventually incorporate auto lights/wipers into my car. But at that price, who knows, might not happen...

Interesting that it cost that much for the glass. I believe I was quoted around 400 or so for the glass itself not the other pieces as well. Again different dealers quote different prices and if you are a repeated customer they would charge a different amount as well. Hopefully in the next few years we shall see if BMW can change their dealership experience to a better one. :)

I considered "upgrading" to the auto stuff for about 3.5 seconds, looks like a mess IMO. I've never had that stuff and I've owned the car for nearly 7 years; so I'm passing on that. I'd rather allocate those funds to other issues with the car that need addressing.

I don't have the receipt in front of me, but I believe the glass was $410, the other stuff is the trim, cowl, cowl bits and tax.

Got a SES light last night so today I did some research on how my K&N filter may have caused it (after finding that out here). So I bought some CRC MAF cleaner and cleaned it out. Still had the SES light so I took it to the shop I go to (Northeast Motorsports) and had the car coded. Code was coming from the thermostat so it could be going. Gonna order a new one. Luckily an old friend of mine works there so I get some hookups :)

So I dont need it replaced?

You should replace it. Basically if it is stuck closed so your engine will never heat up. It could get stuck the other way and cause your car to overheat.

It is only a $60 part, and a bad thermostat will result in crappy MPG.

If you're going like-for-like on struts (aka no height adjustment) it shouldn't change alignment specs.

However, given that your older struts are probably beaten to a pulp, I would align after new ones are installed

terra, on the most part I would agree and I wrestled with this for a few weeks until I decided to paint my base plates glossy black to go with everything else I already had regarding my ZHP. Botond has M3 side mirrors on his 330i and to me there was too much red so I decided to paint my baseplates to break it up a little and am glad I did.

My car was really disappointed in me for not heading back east to meet everybody at the reunion, and witness firsthand the change in leadership, so I did the Khoalty Interior LED lighting upgrade kit. Plus LED license plate lights. Like Seth said, it would be nice if they would go ahead and tell you what lamps go where. Their web site does link to an E46f DIY which is pretty helpful. Easy upgrade, and their pricing on the LEDs is really good.

The LEDs make a huge difference in the lighting. Being at my advanced age, and having a totally black interior, I went with the 12 LED array in the dome light. This thing is bright enough I can't imagine what the 18 cell version would do. Kind of bugs me a little that the LED panel doesn't sit completely square in there. Throws plenty of light everywhere, it's just a little bit crooked. Might have to concoct a spacer of some sort.

Does the 12 LED array have the soft on/off (dimming) just like the regular bulbs?

Good question. I had to go out and check. And then check my 325, which still has the original halogens.

Where the halogens fade smoothly from full illumination to complete dark, the LED panel dims to about half level and then clicks off. It's not as smooth as the halogen.

Washburn
05-19-2013, 11:11 AM
Ah - Thanks for checking!

I had a suspicion that I it won't dim smoothly as OEM. This would (personally) be prohibitive in my case.
(The crooked-ness of the array that you mentioned combined with non-smooth dimming just nixes khoalty choice for me now)

I am going to research other makes/companies which might have LED domes that ensures OEM like operation...Will update.

Will be interested to know what you find out. Khoalty's price for the complete kit was pretty low. I paid $43.00, including the upgrade to the 12 panel dome light. I know there's similar kits out there that cost twice as much, as well as individual lights. I'm not that bugged by the dimming, but I am a little off-put by how the panel sits in the socket. Will be interested to see if the dimming is an issue of how LEDs operate, or if it's possible that there is one which works more similar to the incandescent lamp. I'd say my panel dims to about 50%, then cuts out

I will update - I sent an email to another company that makes a 12 LED dome array and asked them about it - will see if they reply.
I also wonder if the single LED that khoalty sells does the dimming well...IDK how bright it is...
I just need a LED dome - and not ALL the lights.

yeah 50% and then off is not nearly like OEM fade on/off.
I also think that Kohalty should not say that their LED bulbs do the fade on/off exactly like OEM on their product web site, when they actually do not.

If you contact them for some reason, will you also mention the on/off behavior of the LEDs? I just want to see if this is an individual/random case or if they're all like that.

oh - that's interesting - so I guess the plug and play single LED dome bulb must be ok - (fades on/off like factory).
How is the power of the single LED dome compared to the halogen orange oem dome bulb? I know it can't be as bright as a 12 led array but I really want a subtle upgrade from oem halogen dome, so the single LED dome might be the one for me...

LOL, yep. Take your time first off.

I have a sedan so my C and B pillars are different from a Coupe.

I used a model/laptop screw driver to pry the reading lights out. Pry from the bottom, the retaining/pressure clips are on that side. There is no bolt behind there. For me, I just had to pull to get them out. Then they sorta slide from there. I broke both alignment pins, but it's still firmly in place. I've read it may be easier if you pull the seats, I did not.

B-piller, you will need to unclip both the drivers rear and front seat door sill. I only did the first clip or 2 on there and didn't remove. Basically enough to get a grip on the lower trim piece below the panel. Then, remove the 16mm bolt for the seat belt from the bottom of the seat after moving it forward and up as high as you can to reach that bolt. Then remove the 2 pressure pin/clips from the bottom of the B-pillar. When that's done, you should be able to feel and pull to get the pillar trim piece out, slide the belt through opening.

Front, I used the same screwdriver to remove the then felt piece covering the 3 T-25 screws. These were sorta long, but I still managed to remove them with a 3/8 ratchet. I just used a piece of paper between the windshield and ratchet to keep from scratching the windshield. I read several ways to remove these pillars. I still ended up breaking both sides where the pillar meets the dash. I think these are just for alignment so I proceeded anyway. I'm sure there's a way to get it out without breaking though.

If you have any specific questions, feel free to PM me.

oh - that's interesting - so I guess the plug and play single LED dome bulb must be ok - (fades on/off like factory).
How is the power of the single LED dome compared to the halogen orange oem dome bulb? I know it can't be as bright as a 12 led array but I really want a subtle upgrade from oem halogen dome, so the single LED dome might be the one for me...

I would take pics but they wouldn't show it, it's very bright, I saw no reason for the bigger panels in my application, I can make a video of the dimming if you would like

Going on a 3,000 mile road trip starting today with an E60 M5, E39 540, and E92 328xi!! Interior is out, headliner was easier then I expect, re glued the fabric with 3m super 77 and since the factory tan fabric is hella faded and dirty decided to stain it black, about half way done and it came out a charcoal color that I am REALLY happy with.
Color looks off cause of sun/still being wet, it's dried now and looks awesome, huge upgrade over the condition of it when I started.

Finished up the diff last night and ran in the break-in procedure. We were about ready to throw up after running 20 circles in both directions... Another 1200 miles of easy driving and it'll be broken in and ready for flogging.

While I was under there, I adjusted/bent the hangers on the Corsa muffler to get it tucked up on the diffuser. Looks much better now.

Im at 110k and it is still alive knock on wood, its on the short list. Today I finished what ended up being about 12 hours of work on the interior, removed just about everything but the front seats, dash and carpet to repair the headliner and start two toning it. I know have a black (repaired) headliner, fixed black a,b,c pillars, black door and dash trim and a black center console. Now the hunt for black leather or alcantara seats begins.

These are the new bolts:
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab207/niart906/null-22.jpg

The old ones didn't have that swollen collar near the head. They just had threads all the way down it, and this caused a decent amount of slop which translated to a clunk sound when shifting.

It was a definite problem on the m3s. One of the first things I did to the car. Fairly confident that it did not extend to the rest of the line.
