All about high performance mods at my house today:

Installed new-to-me Homelink receiver I got for $50 shipped on eBay, eliminating the unsightly opener hanging off the visor

8181

Might need to glue the headliner around the opening. Just tucking it around the edges like the e46f DIY seems a little loose.

Installed OEM Aux input in the doodad cup in the console. OEM harness was just long enough to reach back there from the head unit.

I got it from another forum member. He got it from diffsonline.com. We bought the one for our 135 from VAC Motorsports

Yep, the one in the ZHP is plug and play. It's a very easy swap...

No the 135 is completely different.

They are stock e46 housings and the guts from an M3 are modified to fit into it or an aftermarket unit is installed in the housing, depending on what you want...

Tonight I washed the ZHP, put the 135M wheels back on and put the new RE 11's in the back seat. The fronts are still on back order and now showing a ship date of 5/11 so, I'll run the old fronts for now. Should be a fun ride to the tire store 40 miles away; I pulled off all the weights when I detailed the wheels last week.

Windshield cracked today, its been chipped in one spot for the duration of my ownership of the car (almost 7 years!) and the chip where it cracked has been there for about a year...

BMW dealership is RIDICULOUS for replacement, so I've been researching where to buy the glass myself ($200 cheaper for the same windshield through ECS). I'm going to wait on the check from State Farm, but I'll probably buy it myself and have it installed professionally or a friend of a friend is a BMW tech, have him do it on the side...

She goes in for a rear-end alignment in the morning, hoping it's not too costly. My buddy that did alignments on the side for $35 moved away >=-/

Made a laundry list of what I am doing this summer

New thermostat
New front brakes and rotors
Navigation retrofit
Refresh my center console and cup-holder
Rear fenders will be flared/pulled around 3/4 inch
Clears all around
HR race springs (need some more low)

AND MAYBE, a OEM M-tech 2 kit. Intake, sways, and a tune.

Wooh.. bye bye bank account. :(

Back to forum! I learned a lot about E46 programming - changing parameters and retrofits that other people said its impossible. Will make a thread about them after I come back from werk. :)

Good to see you bud!

As for me, OE M60 non-VANOS intake manifold (aka Dinan M62 high flow manifold). New on top, original one from the '01 on the bottom. The difference in the size of the runners is easy to see.

I would highly recommend having an experienced glass installer perform the work. Windshields are potentially a messy/sharp pita to remove (and if any of the of the paint gets scratched could rust) and getting them properly set and sealed (I have heard lots of stories of water leaks from even the smallest gaps) or having to redo the install with an incredible chance the windshield will crack or break during removal for repair.

I have air tools so I tightened everything with an air ratchet then put it in gear for final torquing... That was the only PITA... Having to crawl out from under the car, take it out of gear, turn everything a bit to get to the next set of bolts then put it back in gear and crawl back under.

I'm going to wait to see what the insurance check is first... If its enough, I'll just have the dealer put it in, but from what I'm told, the tech's do it at the dealership, so I don't see the difference in having the same tech do it after-hours as opposed to on-hours. I'm familiar with having to prime any bare metal when the original comes out, etc, etc...

^ yessir! OEM ONLY! My insurance lady just called me, they are sending me a check for $707.XX... Damn, I might just have the dealer do it, he quoted me yesterday...

$518 - Glass (no sensor)
$100 - Trim
$50 - Cowl
$75/hour install, estimated 2 hours

I can get the glass from ECS for $296.03 (plus $92.13 for the order shipping)
Trim $25.32
Cowl refresh kit $76.42
$489.90 shipped, still, all parts cheaper than just the windshield at the dealer.

I may just order the stuff myself, go have it tinted, and then have a professional installer come to the house to put it in, and spend the extra money on new CA's, or I bet I could have an installer go to the tint shop to put it in...

Worked on the passenger mirror motor last night. The ribbon cable tore which explains why the motor doesn't work on the passenger only. I ordered a driver side motor on accident so I was left to try some repairing. I reconnected the ribbon cable with solder and wrapped it with e tape. That solve the that for now and I can return the driver mirror motor.

Going to order a new mirror cap since the tabs broke off. I was thinking of drilling holes and zip ties through the mirror holes. It is probably sturdier than the tabs.

My driver's side fender corner light just magically stopped working in front of me after I locked my car. I took it off, plugged the passenger side side in to confirm the wiring is good, then plugged the driver's side corner light back on, and now it's working again. :shifty

BTW, don't remove without a non-marring pry tool. It will make removal seconds long without worrying about paint scratches.

I found a small rust spot on my passenger-side door jamb from what I would imagine was the seatbelt hitting the door at one point in its life. It's not any bigger than, say, the tip of a dull pencil. I figure I'll get it taken care of some time later. Shouldn't be a bad repair. I put some clear coat over it in an attempt to slow it down or something, but it's so small I am not too worried about immediate problems. It'll be taken care of before this winter.

Well, I managed to get a couple things done tonight... The box from TMS included an OEM ///M dead pedal, which was installed this evening. In addition, I installed the CF diffuser that arrived while I was in Texas...

Tomorrow, the car goes up on jacks and BP and I will get my Dinan muffler on (power tools go HERE...) as well as the final installation of my CF splitters...

Pictures coming soon... My county received 9 inches of rain this afternoon, so I don't exactly have good weather to clean the car and take shots.

Lol well in general most 7s have the common issue of PS leaks. Dealt with it last year on my dad's E32, he just replaced everything and now the E38. Just trying to clean everything and sort what I need to order. On the plus side, other than that, car is golden! Tires have no wear, all the cooling system overhaul etc I had done is holding up well, drives great! Just need to sort this ps leak... :shifty

There is a note in there that says the 2002-2005 ones are made from a "private manufacturer" that ensures "OEM quality". I don't know what the means, but honestly I'd buy it anyway as I would put LaminX over it anyway.

Of course all the other ones that aren't 2002-2005 sedan fitment are Bosch. Go figure.

I'm in the same boat (with the pitting), we'll both just have to pony up the cash for new lenses... I'm probably going to wait until I can get the pitted front re-painted too, I want to wait to do that until I can let the car sit in the garage over a warm Memphis summer and let the new paint harden up for a good 3-4 months. I put stock-equivalent Boges on my car last year when I bought it, kinda wishing I'd done Bilstein HDs. Curious to see your car when it's done, hopefully it doesn't sit up higher after the change. I may ditch the Boges sooner than later, they're just too damn mushy.. especially when my "other" car rides on Bilsteins and is a crapload stiffer to begin with.

Will do. I'll be honest, the intake/exhaust do not make a bunch of difference.. I feel the exhaust is a little louder, no sucking/growl from the intake though. But, together, the car does feel a little more jumpy... Hoping the software adds even more kick. :)

I've been watching Craigslist for a light set of 17s and found these... OZ Ultraleggera, 17x8 and 17.6 lbs per corner... Picked them up with 245/40 Falkens on them, but will put some Direzzas on them when I can afford to...
Also, I'll probably powdercoat them another color when it comes time to swap to the Dunlop's... Suggestions?

Upgrade my Nav SW from 4-1/70 to 4-1/00. Can't tell what the change is yet. The load I got is supposed to have "night mode". Anyone know if that has a less bright screen? I could not tell in the daylight.

You should also be able to enable perspective mode (3D-ish map). "Night mode" is where the screen turns to a dark sky looking image at night.

Re-opened up my passenger-front door to re-apply the zip tie fix with stronger zip ties. This time only one of the four zip ties broke upon moving the window through its range of motion. Good enough to keep the window up until I can get a new regulator sometime in the near future . . .

Just placed an order with German Auto Solutions for their DISA rebuild kit. Will order the CCV kit and oil filter housing gasket from ECS tomorrow and can look forward to a fun filled day of preventative maintenance and repair this weekend. Won't necessarily be fun, but keeping the car in good health is good for the long run.

I have that version too, but I thought that night mode was something you had to "turn on", that it wasn't an automatic thing, but I don't recall as I hadn't used it.

Cleaned up my other E46 today.

It may be even less special than our "not special" ZHPs, but it still shines up pretty good. I was working on the engine compartment Scrubbing Bubbles DIY, and the guy across the street came over and asked if I wanted to sell it.

I don't think I do.

I haven't had a chance to comment on my Corsa cat back exhaust I installed last week .
I love this exhaust! It has a great growl to it in the meat of the power band yet quiet at idle and highway cruising. When I was installing it, I noticed that all three sets of mufflers/resonators were a strait through design...
8277

8278
Some quick installation notes:
For all exhaust systems: Don't expect to get the manifold flange bolts off without lots of heat... The Oxy/acetylene kind of heat. Be prepared to replace the manifold bolts if they are extremely rusted like mine were.

8279

Everything fit perfectly but I'll probably bend the muffler hangers a bit to get the tips tucked up into the diffuser.

8280

Use plenty of anti-sieze on the exhaust pipe clamps. The clamps that come with it are really good but you have to tighten them until you think they will break, then tighten some more. They need the lube so the threads don't get destroyed during this process and don't forget to re-tighten after getting everything hot.
You may have rotate the clamps a bit or turn them opposite to what the directions state to clear tires and front drive shaft tunnel crossmember.

Yea, I've been wanting this exhaust for years and more so after hearing it on Kpro's 135... It seems to have waken up the Dinan stage 3 tune a bit...
Krpo says that it needs to be reflashed with the tune since I got the exhaust but aren't these tunes (Dinan, shark, etc.) a static remap?

Rob,
I agree with K-Pro. You had the intake & TB, now you've allowed it to exhaust those additional spent gases& air better via the new less restricted exhaust. When we made these hardware changes to Preston's car the improvement was noticeable but after the software tune update the improvement was much more noticeable. I invite you to drive his car at the meet and see if you can feel the difference, do that before you spend another $500+ on the software update.

This is fantastic to hear... My car goes into the dealer this morning for the Stage 2 flash from Dinan. I'm not expecting huge gains as Dinan mods are all very subtle, but I'm looking forward to some extra grunt!

Also picked up my Redline fluids for the trans/rear end yesterday. That, along with the sunshade repair coming up... Lots of little things and maintenance to handle before the drive North next week! Oh, and a detail too... Ugh, not looking forward to that process.

Tonight I enabled Stage 3 Brake Force Display. I also played with the different settings for it to enact different modes. For example, I got it to just flash every time hard braking is encountered, ABS or not. This is very useful on the street due to all the inattentive people out there, so I will be running this on the street.

For track events, I will code it to enable Stage 2 for hard braking (threshold braking) and Stage 3 for ABS triggers.

Would be interesting to wire an led display on the dash, you could see the flashing when the stage 2 is triggered, helping fine tune your perception of how close you are to the threshold...

Good luck with the rework. I have to get ours back to the body shop to fix a hood spray. We collected a rock chip that the shop assured us could be touched up. Needless to say it did not come out well and they wound up painting the hood. I had thought for a long time that the color was off, but this weekend a friend noticed the difference. We have had other work done at this shop and been happy. Apparently body shops are like the stock market - past performance is no guarantee of future returns.

Just get Bilstein Sports for all 4 corners. They can be used with lowering springs or stock ride height. They will stiffen the ride a little bit, but they are a very nice shock absorber IMO.

OK, here is my status - I have NCS Expert working.

I coded the current LCM and the new to enable bi xenon with halogen for highbeams and to NOT turn off fogs when flash to pass or high beams…this thing is going to be a space ship with high beams on…

I reactivated the euro flashers

And on the new module the three blinks - BUT, I HAVE THE TAMPER DOT with the new LCM and couldn’t figure out how to get rid of it…I tried to go in through Progman to code a replacement but I couldn’t get progman to see more than 12.4v at pin 30…even with my huge/consistent charger with various settings for volts/amps (and this charger has worked with another persons progman before)

So, I have my original LCM in there right now.

Further…

I coded key controlled roll up of windows and folding with key mirrors and changed the max speed for which I can fold the mirrors - I can now do it while on the road instead of dead stop

I need to remember to turn off NAV accept (I had it before but with my meddling tonight I lost it)

So, left to do (that I can think of) is NAV accept, tamper dot removal (and checking coding on that LCM) and then hope that none of the automatic trans coding has seeped back in…ugh….

Any chance you have PA Soft / BMW Scanner?

There's a DIY here on programming a used LCM:

What did I do for her today?

Apologized to her and explained that a wash won't do any good because she'll be covered in pollen before the end of the day.

Picked up a CF lip for the car from another member (Thanks Steve!)

Now to run to the store to pick up mounting hardware and some more 3M double sided tape.

Washed and detailed the hood, roof, and trunk, before realizing that I need a lot more practice at this than I thought. :/

Also installed my clear side markers to complete the clear conversion.

Brake day, all day. Preston installed S&D d rotors with ceramic pads. He wanted yellow calipers & carriers so took those off of my coupe. He touched up the paint for time sensitivity (paint takes a long time to dry in humid weather, we had rain here today). On my coupe, the S&D rotors remained, as did the ceramic pads, but took the calipers & carriers originally from Preston's car and painted them BMW Roundel blue. They look amazing! Slapped everything back together and then took each one out to bed the brakes. Next attended to my wagon and installed the new front rotors that didn't show up 2-3 weeks ago. Finally took mama & kids out to dinner for Mother's Day, will go bed the brakes on my wagon in the morning.

Charlie stopped by today as did Adolfo, both were great support to have around & talk with but Preston kept keeping me on track because after all, it's all about him and he had to go out & drive his car tonight, lol.

Car sat in the garage all day yesterday as we had a birthday party for baby... Today she will sit again, that is, after going for a covert morning run to the store for a Mothers Day card.... :shifty

Monday starts the reunion drive prep work... :)

Thanks again!

Install solo is a PITA, but it's done.

Finished up around 1 AM this morning. Set my alarm to get up for my wifes breakfast... I set it for Saturday. Doh!

Luckily, she didn't give me too much grief.

I need to wash it and get some better pics soon.

Next up for visual mods will be light smoke corners and side markers, RCR tails and either black or gunmetal on the rims.

I might be in Vegas then! I haven't registered though. What does that mean? I'm not allowed to meet you boys? LOL

I honestly don't know what it means, probably just that you can display your car. I'll be there in Carl's M5, let me know if you are in town that weekend and I'll meet up with you

While I was swapping out my diff, I noticed that one of my rear Konis was leaking. Replaced them with Bilsteins today. Still gotta do the struts... I was kinda disappointed that they were leaking even though they have 70k on them, then I saw that the shafts were corroded and severly pitted. They went right to the scrap metal pile. No rebuilding them.

Also, Got my new splitters on... finally. I used SS screws and fender washers on the bottom and double sided tape on the top. I used a stepped drill bit to drill the holes and supported the back with a block of wood. This kept the holes nice and clean. I'm pretty happy with the way they turned out. Like Jupiter said, the fit isn't perfect but I think they look damn good...With my car lowered, I only have a few inches of clearance though.

For comparison, here are my old CF ones from a few years back. My car isn't lowered in this pic.

@Rob: I like the new splitters a lot better. Much nicer overall shape.

I've been sanding on your old ones, but they're not done yet. Do you still want to me to refinish them?

Yea that would be great.... the car is so low now that I might take the new ones off, save them foe special occasions and run the old ones for daily use...

Rob-

Splitters look great! I had to use an extra fastener as well to ensure they were secure, but yes, love the look of them, very aggressive... :thumbsup
