This came out of my 2005 sedan. It should work for our cars, but please check the wiring harness in the drivers side in the trunk. It is behind the carpeting and should look like:

This hooks up to the blitzsafe and the blitzsafe hooks up to the xm radio something like this:

The pink antenna adapter should be going to the xm radio. The antenna is magnetic and was on the top of my trunk when I bought the car. I hated that it was there so I moved it behind the tool kit on the inside of the trunk liner (on the lid) - reception worked fine for me, but not sure about your car. There are DIY's from BSW and a couple other people on other forums (http://www.bavariansoundwerks.com/product-extras/XM_Direct_E46_Convertible.pdf). The guide I've posted is for a convertible, but it is almost identical to sedan/coupe.
If you want XM Radio with the OEM radio this is your setup.
