Does anyone know if these fit our e46's?
Here is the previous shift knob:

And the new shift knob that was seemingly introduced with the F30 performance bits:

As you can see, it's a different color. It also seems to have a CF weave in it which I would think would go well with my black cube since the old silver one didn't really match anything else in my interior.

oh la la i like it. My guess is the boot comes with it and it will fit. After all, the F10 M5 shift knob fits.
but it doesnt look cheap..

edit: it does come with the knob.

Me likey the auto one :biggrin
For sure they'll fit? I've been tired of seeing/using this factory black shift knob....looks like a blackjack more than a shift knob in a vehicle.

That first shift knob was on Kpro's 135. We gave to Dane at SIG Fest last year and its been on his ZHP ever since

I know the first one fits, I must have been misunderstood in my first question.
I have the first one, and love it. But recently I switched it out for my ZHP one back because I want to get used to that again so I can get the F10 M5 illuminated one. But this new knob has me second guessing. Throwing the ZHP one back on after the perf one had me feeling like I was shifting with a big rock. But I'm loving it again

I can't imagine that'd be ergonomic to shift with.

I like it, but I probably would not use it unless I had CF trim. The old bmw performance shift knob goes much better with the silver cube trim

I wonder if it'd be possible to add lighting to the second one

How does the ZHP knobs add lighting? Do they use the M3 emblem to do so?

Like how leatherZ does it? I have no idea. I'd assume hollow some of it out and then fill it back up with some stuffing. The top shift pattern emblem is pretty cool too: (Compared to the previous gen M-Sport knob)

^^ Wow, that shift pattern emblem is gorgeous! Wish the knob wasn't shaped that way though. I hope they come out with more that have that emblem for sure, because then I'll be getting one. How is the weight of that knob compared to the E9x/E8x M-sport knob you have pictured?

Not my picture, but assuming the new perf knobs weigh and feel the same.. The throws feel a lot shorter and cleaner.
I've never liked anything about the m-sport knob tbh. Annoying shape and design with the perforated leather.

Having both the ZHP and the E9x/E8x M-Sport shift knob, I have concluded that the ZHP knobs feels much more comfortable to shift with due to its shape. This is why I question the shape of the performance knob; I would imagine the shifts not being as smooth because of the way the knob moves with your hand when shifting. The weights are the same, or at least they feel like the same. I've never tried a Performance shift knob before though, so I can't say anything on it definitely.

I've never been a big fan of the performance knobs with the ZHP interior.
Looks out of place to me.

I love my perf knob!
The do like how with the zhp knob, the shifts fall into place more. I don't knob, I can't really explain how its different. Its more of an experience type of things.

Our 135 has the performace shifter in it but we didn't like the knob even though it's made of aluminum and alcantara...IDK... we thought it looked and felt cheap. We swapped it out for the ZHP knob and it looks good and feels good too... The ZHP knob really looks good in black ineriors...

The auto one won't fit without major modification. The design of how the knob attaches was changed when the E9x was introduced.
My E9x Performance knob actually is a specific E46 version (different p/n)

but currently running the knob from my old Euro Spec 635CSi with a leather manual shift boot because it feels nicer (and it's real wood)

We're both glad we could give it to someone who really enjoys it :thumbsup
