hi all
my name is Mike from clinton, tn.
have been lurking for awhile and thought i would join as this seems like a nice place to cruise.
i have never been a BMW fan, untill my wife wanted one. so i drove a few, only to find out they were worse than i had expected (323 and 325's) i greatly opposed, put my foot down and said " i'll never own one of those german pieces of crap!"
so i bought one on ebay she liked, flew down to florida to get it and on the drive back found out something, not all BMW's are not created equal. it was a black loaded 05' ZHP, and holy crap what a car! i have driven alot of cars in my 43 years, but none were as fun as this.
after getting home i secretly wanted one.
i had just got done doing some heavy mods to my MK4 TDI jetta, when someone told me to price it. i did. he bought it, and i used that money to find yet abother ZHP in florida. although the jetta was a great little car, i do miss 50mpg, i have never looked back, mainly becouse my wife is behind me laughing, mumbling something about how i would never have one.....

Welcome! There really is quite a difference with the sports package on these cars compared to non-sport 3 series. ZHP makes it even better.

Welcome. Great story. Pics please. (BTW, the 1st BMW I ever drove was a 4 cylinder 320 in the 80s that was slow as molasses, so I actually thought the same thing. On top of that, it had none of the features that the Japanese manufacturers were loading their cars up with for less money, so I too was wondering what the fuss was about). It wasn't until later when I rode in a better BMW (a later model 5 series) that I was hooked.

i have been over on fanatics for some time and have posted some articles there. don't have any good pics to post up, but ill work on that.
it's funny you should mention e21's as my brother has had them for many years. he currently has 2 of the niciest ones you'll find. a 323 alpina and a century turbo.
he gave me some crap when i bought my e46, untill he drove it to work one day. he almost immeadiatly parked them and bought a 05' e46 M3. BTW the e21's are for sale....

BTW thanks to you all for the warm welcome
as for the TDI....where do i begin. mod list: EGR and cat delete, down pipe, intercooler pipes, intake and exaust manifolds, VNT 17/22 turbo, 520 injectors, IPT built automatic (as you know a necessity), and since it was an auto it had the 11mm pump, 17" 5 spoke rims, coil overs lowered 1,5", custom stage 5 malone tune and a mcnally combo gauge......and it still got 45-50mpg. mark had told me it should have made about 175HP and 300 ft lbs, out of a 1.9 diesel!

shortly after i sold it to my friend, he called me up complaining that there was a terrible vibration in the front end. after a quick inspection, i asked him if he won...
as he shuffeled around abit, the truth came out. he was showing off to one of his friends and about the time the boost gauge went past 30psi, and the tires finally hooked up, it twisted both cv joints out of his axles. he drives it a bit more gingerly now, but every now and then an imbaressed "nopi" punk will wonder why a jetta that smokes like a coal train just handed there ass to them :)

And that is why I love TDIs! I had a very similar mod list, only vnt17 instead of your hybrid turbo and a 5 speed with quaife. I ran Rocketchip Stage 5+. I was at the 150/280 mark. I know how mine drove, I can only imagine how yours was with the hybrid turbo. Every one I've driven with the 17/22 turbo has been a rocket. Were you running a PD150 manifold? Who did you get your turbo through?

i got the turbo and manifold from id parts. the most fun thing to do was a rolling start in about 2nd gear, it had so much unexpected torque for a small car. i swear, if the tires could hook up it would outrun a 330i to about 50-60 mph....

it's supposed to be a nice day tomorrow i'll get some double pics!
