View Full Version : Winter's Coming: Floor mat suggestions?

Hey,
Ski season is approaching and I need to acquire floor mats for the BMW. You have any suggestions? I'm thinking rubber/all weather mats. I thought the prices were outrageous, but hey I've never bought them before (all other cars I previously owned came with them). I've thinking of looking at craigslist or ebay, although I've heard some do not last very long (particularly the FloorLiner?).
From research, the most popular choices seem to be:
WeatherTech: Either the floor mat (http://www.weathertech.com/product-education-center/floor-mats-all-weather/) or FloorLiner (http://www.weathertech.com/product-education-center/floorliner-digitalfit/)
OEM? BMW Rubber Floor Mats: Part #: 8255013637X (http://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-2401-genuine-bmw-rubber-floor-mats-e46-325xi-330xi.aspx?utm_source=goog_product&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=8255013637X&gclid=CMXBl7Pg-LMCFQtxQgodch8ACQ)
Any others I should consider? I'll try to use this site's sponsors links if I buy new.
Thanks,
Hermes

OE, check ECS, they tend to have good prices around the end of the year.

I have the OEM rubber mAts in the ZHP and find them durable, cover well and are very functional. The driver side is cut really well around the pedals. My complaints are they can be slippery when wet and they show dirt.
I have cocoa mats with rubber backs in the 2002 and find them to be equal to or better than rubber mats in the ZHP. i think they look much better and are avaikabke in custom colors, there is no slippage and they don't show dirt. I have not seen how well they fit the ZHP. The complaint is they do tend to break down and start to shed after awhile,

I have the BavAuto mats. Fit is less than perfect.
Wish I would have gone with WeatherTech...

OEM all the way for me. Just like the way they look better than anything aftermarket.
Also, had weathertechs in my 323i and they wore out to the point they were basically swiss cheese. Never had that happen with OEM where it wears all the way through.

Looks are one thing. I agree Marc.
As far as keeping crap outta your carpet, after skiing.....go with the WeatherTechs.

Oh, do you know if the Front and Rear sets come with the anchors? I see that they can be bought separately...

I love the cocoa mats (heavy duty and don't show dirt) in my 2002, but too many people say they look too grandpa for the more modern styled ZHP. I love the OEM rubber mats -- which is my vote.

I got OEM rubber mats for my car. Had them for a year and they still look great and show very little wear if any.

i've got the bav mats in my e36 and they're cut about the same as OE, but haven't seen 'em in the e46. in all the cars i've ever seen WeatherTech mats in, the cut and fit has been superb. they also wrap up the sides a little bit and help contain overspill.
I am using WeatherTech die cut mats

Nice, yeah ecs tuning has them cheap, but they do not include the anchors... You have to buy them separately.

GRANDPA??!! Ha! That's funny. Just because I was running them on my Beetles in the 70's... oh never mind.
Here's how they fit in my ZHP. I can't vouch for how they'd be in true "winter" weather (it was around 80 today and we might see some rain by, oh, March?) but I can't imagine they wouldn't be awesome. VERY heavy rubber backing, zero movement, don't show dirt, and can literally be shaken or hosed clean. I absolutely love these things - have them in my M and in my last 4 cars before the current stuff. VERY high quality product.

I use E39 weather-tech mats. :shifty
My dad gave them to as I was a few clicks away of ordering some OEM rubber mats online.. He had them sitting in the trunk of his car for a few months, brand new too! He already had OEM rubber mats which he is happy with.
Win, win for the both of us!
The E39 mats fit really well in my E46, one would think they are mad for an e46 not the E39!

Yes, I know they are grey and not black.. But I my dad handed them to me.. so why not? They are free! And, I kind of like the contrast, my interior was waay to dark before, this really makes a nice change to it.

^^^ Interesting. How does the front driver's side fit? It's good to know they are cross compatible (craigslist, etc...). Who knows? If there is a significant price difference, it could maybe help someone out.

I might have some E46 winter mats for sale. I gotta confirm when I get home in a week.
They are from my xi, so fitment wouldn't be 100%, but they are OEM.

It fits perfectly, it goes around the pedals as if it was made for the E46! The width and length on the drivers side also fit perfectly.
I am guessing the prices are probably the same-ish..

I have the grey oem mats...guy I know that works at the local dealership bought them for his car and ended up not needing them. Only issue I have with them is that since they are grey they do tend to show dirt as others have said but I can imagine it would be fairly simple to take them out and wash them off good as new again.

That was a bit of a necro-bump, but it's timely and on-topic. ;)
I just bought my wife a set of the BMW OE rubber mats for her X3 for winter. They're actually really nice. I'm thinking the WeatherTech would have protected the carpet a little better on the sides though, like for the first couple of inches up the side of the transmission hump. The OE mats were significantly cheaper than the WeatherTechs, like $120 vs. $80 from a dealer on Amazon.
I'd like to get the WeatherTechs for the H3, but holy testicle Tuesday... It's $170 for front and back. Ouch!
Cheers,
SC

I had BMW rubber mats in my old 330Ci. I loved them, very durable. As others have stated, they didn't guard against the base carpet on the sides as well as the WeatherTech's look like they might, but they worked great for me.
