View Full Version : What Do Your Keys Look Like?

Post up a pic of your keys and keychains and any stories you may have.
I like to keep mine simple. Only keychain I use is a Volcom keychain I picked up at a surfing event when I was 16. Had it ever since. I also have a surfboard bottle opener from Rainbow I got at the same event but I took it off when I got my e46 cuz it touched my knee when I drove an bugged me. Always there to remind me of my best years and my passions.

I don't have my keys, haven't seen em in 2 months! But I too keep it simple. And we have a separate key ring for each car. The ZHP keys and the X3 keys. Each has a house key on it, and a few of those little savings club plastic barcode tab thingys. And each have a leather/brushed aluminum keychain from the local dealer. :)

Don't judge me. :eeps
Jk I don't have all that on. The carbon fiber ///\/\ keychain was a souvenir from Hong Kong that I got at a BMW parts distributor.
The USB I got off Amazon for college purposes.
The key with mini cards was to my first car/BMW/E46. She was totaled and hauled off before I had a chance to strip her down, only got the roundels off. This key is all that I have left of that past.
The other key connected to other keys is to my current ZHP.
The silver fiber wire-ish keychain itself was also from Hong Kong. Has BMW stamped on it, and a peculiar indentation on the side. It's a capital T and a triangle, looks Greek to me but I never asked or looked into it.
The only thing I carry around on that are the two keys. The first one for good luck to ward off idiot drivers.
Seriously, my age group causes the most deaths in the U.S., and is the most accident prone but my first one and its this bad? Makes me believe the accuracy of that statistic sometimes. It was the old dude's fault and he even tried to blame it all on me.

Does yours have the TΔ on the side also? I remember a period of time when I Googled it and tried to find any link of it to BMW but came up with nothing. Drove me nuts for a while.

Too many keys! I carry 2 out of 3 of these most days, unless I am in the Ram. ZHP key on the carbon fiber Alpina key ring is light and saves weight when performance driving. :shift :biggrin This is a nod to Alpina's mods to our ZHP engines.
Mechanic tells me that sometime in the near future the E36 ignition isn't going to recognize the master key, so I now carry the valet key too...though I would never valet a vehicle!

Haha, thanks! It came from Ebay.co.uk about 4 years ago, but I haven't seen them anywhere in the last 2 years.
Why wouldn't the car recognize the master key?
Apparently something with the ignition and the internal chip in the key - I guess we can give it a pass as the car is approaching 250,000 miles. As a side note, I have always been told that aside from the annoying banging/stabbing your knee with extra keys on the ignition key ring, the added weight is supposed to accelerate ignition wear.

when not driving, ZHP key stays with the others:

When i need it for driving, i detach the ZHP key, and it's by itself :) - Only THAT key will hang from my ignition, and nothing else:

My older bro gave me that stack for my birthday about 10 years ago. It was then that I found out that he has some sort of $2 bill fetish. He keeps a stash of of them (and I mean a crapload - many of those $200 bundles) in a box at home, and carries a ton in his wallet at all times, using them for tips or whatever. We ordered pizza one day and he paid the delivery dude in all crisp, consecutively-numbered $2's. He's known locally in Santa Barbara as the "$2 bill guy". Reloads frequently at the bank, where of course they all know him. And probably think he's out of his mind. And they'd be right.
Me? I could give a rat's ass, it's cash! After leaving those in a drawer for years, I finally took them to Vegas last year and threw them around like candy. It was pretty funny watching peoples' reactions to spending them. I think I have a few left someplace, I should dig 'em out.

I have a little love for $2 bills.
I keep all of them I get, but I don't go to the bank asking for bundles (yet anyway). I keep one in my wallet for luck too; something my mother passed on to me. Used to get them for change on the bridges a lot around here when the tolls were $3.
When I was a boy, I wrote the President back in like 1974 to bring back the $2 bill for the bicentennial. I have the letter I got back somewhere saying they were going to do it.
I have a couple of the first re-release bills from April 13, 1976 floating around here with cancelled postal stamps on them, which is the first day of re-issue, after printing of $2 bills stopped in 1966.
I have a couple $2 silver certificates floating around too.

The first time I saw a $2 bill was at Monticello in the gift shop, as change for something I bought on a class trip. Turns out they prefer to use the $2 bill due to Mr. Jefferson. Pretty funny. I still have a few at home as well. Your brother should come visit Virginia.

Here's mine contribution... Both have a small leather/metal keychain I received from the dealer, which is nice because it has contact numbers for the dealer on the backside in case of car troubles... The ZHP set has our house key, and the various little membership tag things that damn near EVERY store has now... The X3 smart key has my wife's parents' house key on it as well, as my wife uses that on occasion.
