View Full Version : ? about valve cover gasket

I'm almost ready to tackle my VANOS and VCG. The gasket came in the mail on this large piece of cardboard, but it is bunched up and bent. Is this a concern, or do they all arrive like this? Based on how thick the gasket is, I assume that it fits into a recess on the valve cover, and thus any kinks or bends will be straightened out. Any thoughts? Call me paranoid, but I don't want to have to take the time to redo the VCG if it doesn't seal. I've attached an image.

Take it out of the plastic and let it straighten out, it'll be fine. And don't forget to pick up some RTV, you're going to need that for the fore and aft valleys.

Thanks.
Isn't Victor Reinz an OEM part? I purchased my through AutohausAZ. Pelican Parts has them as well as other brands.

Normal. I've only ever used ViRe (about 6 times now).

I used OEM. First time I used oem equivalent and it failed fast. I also used NO rtv. It's not necessary

Necessary? Maybe not 100%, but pretty cheap insurance and no mess if you apply the right amounts in the right places. I've done two and used rtv both times.

+1. I always apply it where the Beisansystems procedure directs. At the half moons.
