The F10 M5 comes with a lighted ZHP knob, so for those of you who wanted an OEM one, now's your chance. Price is much more reasonable compared than LeatherZ

Part number is 25112284205

Will run $125ish at most dealers. They're all still in Germany, so it'll take a bit of time to come in

Hmm.. I may have to hop on this. Although I've really grown to not prefer my ZHP knob after having the BMW performance one in for so long..

HAHA. Like white on rice, Jon pounces on a perforated M knob

Yes yes... I'm so sorry... First off, I have to say, half the time I'm on my phone, the other half on my computer. So, I often reply to threads and forget that I do so, or can't find the thread to begin with... Its pretty bad... :rofl

And I couldn't see your sig (replied above from my phone) so I didn't know it was you. I have a hard time remembering 'who is who' being that I haven't met many of you... That being said, I often remember who's who by your sig. Had I been on my laptop and seen the "Coming Soon" sig pic, I'd have remembered and stuff..

But yes, I'm whoring out for a perforated M sport knob... :rofl

No bueno, it'll illuminate all the time. Our cig lighters are not tied to the ignition :(

But the official BMW TIS procedure for installing a lighted shift knob says to use vampire clips on the ash tray light :rockon Simple enough!

Doubtful that BMW would change their design when you see ZHP knobs on cars as old as the e21...it will fit.

I think that's what he meant by cigarette lighter light.

Nice thing about that light is that it's dimmed with the rheostat on the LCM too. Of course my car came with a lighted knob from the factory so it's plug and play for me ;)

My thoughts exactly. BMW hasn't changed the shifter design in nearly 40 years - it'd be a really dick move on their part for them to change it once they finally release a knob that the community has been asking for for the better part of 10 years.

I don't think it'll be cheaper - I know it will be cheaper at dealers. I've never seen ECS ever actually be cheaper than the good online dealerships for genuine bmw parts. Mike at thebmwpartstore is selling them for $125.77 shipped IIRC. He doesn't have it up on the actual site since it's not in stock yet - but he can order it if you email him.

ECS is $137 + shipping... you'll end up paying about $150. Even Tischer will end up being like $145 after shipping and "handling"

At least for me (I ordered pretty early) I should be able to get it well before November 22

I just bet the local dealers end up gouging for it. $200 would be my guess after mark up.

I see Tischer has a special going on these for $120 shipped. It also comes with a leather boot but it doesn't look like the boot would fit our cars though. Might work if you swapped out the plastic frame from our car though. I just ordered mine. :-)

http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/index.cfm?action=MorePartInfo&PartID=1107494&siteid=214672&catalogid=4462

Anybody in the market for a brand new non-lit ZHP knob? I picked one up a while back when they had a special going on them just as a spare and don't really need it now. PM me if interested. I'll probably list it in the for sale section.

Barry

EDIT: It sounds like there is some question about how easy it is to remove the boot so maybe you want to wait until me or someone else gets one to see how easy it is to remove the boot without it being noticeable.

Keep in mind Tischer charges a $5 handling fee, even on items with free shipping... I generally refuse to order from them because of that. Mike at thebmwpartstore is selling them for $124.77 shipped (or they were when I last spoke with him).

Removing boot is super easy. Mine's off at the moment while I'm rebuilding my shifter. It just pops out!

Has anyone verified if it was 120 + 5 or really 120 at tischer?

Actually it's $3.95, it looks like they lowered it from $4.95. I don't even see it listed at thebmwpartsstore yet so it's just more convenient for me to just click a link in an e mail and order rather than having to make a phone call and pay more money for it from somewhere else.

I normally order my parts from Husker BMW, they're usually cheaper than either Tischer or Mike but they don't have it listed yet either.

Total price from Tischer is $123.95.

I was referring to the boot on the M5. Some people are speculating that it might be attached to the knob, maybe because it is sold as one piece.....knob and boot.

I don't think anyone knows for sure yet. Looking at this pic it looks a lot like ours but that seems like a pretty tight fit between the boot and knob. Like they might be fastened together maybe? :dunno

Probably is fastened to the boot. You can probably rip it off. I personally might try to mod the boot to fit in the E46 space

And it does look like Tischer reduced the handling price. Nonetheless, I refuse to order from them on principle. The price of the knob is okay, but for almost everything else, they end up being more expensive than my local dealer due to their outrageous shipping fees. For the dealers that aren't showing the knob on their sites - I would try emailing or calling. Mike told me he didn't want to list it on the website until the knobs are stateside, but he was able to place an order for me.

Probably will require a similar mod as I did to my E9x M-Sport shift knob. Rip boot off, break off tabs and ring, dremel them smooth, and use the broken off plastic ring inside the shift boot to make it sit right.

I would think that if it will fit an E46 it would fit your 1 series since they used what looked like the ZHP knob in the 1M. Your best bet would be to wait until someone can confirm that it WILL fit the E46.

The only reason I really had to modify it was because the shift boot was attached to the shift knob when I bought it. The shift knob had extra plastic on the bottom with clips for the shift boot to clip onto. With this extra plastic, it wouldn't fit right with my shift boot. I couldn't use the leather boot that came with it because the E9x obviously has a different shape.

For your 135i, I wouldn't worry about it at all. All you would have to do is swap the shift boot from yours onto the new knob, and away you go. Done deal.
(That is unless the shift boots are the same shape, in which case, direct plug and play)

Hmm, yeah, I'm definitely going to try making the M5 boot fit in the E46 before going that route. The material is nicer, and it shouldn't be too difficult if there's enough leather. I do have an extra trim ring from another boot

Mine should be here this weekend. Does look like the boot will have to be separated - but that doesn't seem too difficult.

Based on Deadlysyns' posts, the knob is a tad thicker at the top, but I would've never noticed without a side-by-side picture.
