View Full Version : Headlight flicker

My car's headlight seems to flicker when I'm accelerating or doing other things that include my car being in motion other than a nice easy cruise w/ minimal G's.
Seems to be mostly in 2nd and 3rd gear, but not restricted to those gears. I switched out my AL ballast quick tonight with a ZKW ballast w/ ignitor attached to it and the problem went away. As far as I know though, the AL ballast is new and good. I think it's the one that I replaced ~8 months ago (I can't remember because they got switched around)
I'll also note that my connector is kind of broken that attaches to the ballast, but if it's not getting a good connection on the AL ballast, wouldn't the problem move to the ZKW one as well?

I thought you got this figured out. You said the connector is broken, is the connector/place it connects to EXACTLY the same on both setups you tried? That right there sounds like your issue, something moving just enough....

Alternator or the regulator possibly? Bad ground?

That's what I'm thinking. Maybe I'll try getting a new connector and wiring that in. I'd hate do mess with that kind of stuff though.

You think? Wouldn't it affect both lights? Or at least other lights?
My car does also though have an RPM dip when I put the clutch in and coast to a stop light/sign. Sometimes I notice my dash lights quickly brighten back up as if they were dim too.. but I was hoping that my light flicker and these problems were different from eachother. For the problems I just listed I feel like my voltage regulator is to blame.

Bad connection + bad alternator might be pushing that particular side over the edge.

Sounds like a connector issue.

Yeah that's kinda what I'm hoping as my connector is kinda broken. The tab part isn't there..
