I'd be on this like syrup on pancakes if the process for installing this didn't involve tearing the whole car apart.

Your best bet might be to sell this to someone with a broken screen or something...

It's not too bad when you have the retrofit harness actually. You need to remove driver's seat, rear seat, and carpets... rears are easy (did it when I refinished my rear deck), apparently front takes 5 mins and carpet is just held in by rivets under the door sills. Delmarco bought bad monitors twice and ended up forking over dealership cash for that, which is why he rated it as the worst diy ever.

If it doesn't sell I'll just part it out on eBay (or install it :shifty)

Yeah Delmarco's DIY is the one I based my comment on.

If you come down and help me install it, I'll buy it from you :rofl

Hahaha, had you been in NY or VT I'd done it as long as you paid gas... My car's from PA and as I found out when I went to pick it up it's just a tad too far for my taste :)

How much are you realistically trying to get for it? and/or how much would it take for this DIY?

Feel free to PM me if you'd like. I'm just asking out of curiosity.. I can't afford this right now :/

Alright I'm gonna sell it and put the money towards a suspension refresh instead. Updated the thread.

Bump! I put everything on eBay today. Keep in mind everything is OBO, would rather sell the kit to someone on here!

With the retrofit cable it's really not too bad. Take off driver's seat, rear seat, rear deck, and carpet on the left side of the car. delmarco (the guy who documented this DIY on e46F) had a ton of issues because he got scammed on the monitor and it ended up taking a month to get a properly working one. All my parts are fully tested and working.

The actual hassle is when you have to use a harness from a car that had navigation from factory - you have to remove absolutely everything from the car, down to the individual speakers, to rewire everything. The retrofit harness is just plug and play in 3 spots on the car.

It's only missing aux input and GPS aerial (the guy wanted to keep it for BMW assist). Both can be picked up for around $60 ($20 aux, $40 antenna) on eBay or from a scrap yard. Came out of a 04 325iT.

PM me offers! Can sell as a package or separately.

Wait, so if I already have BMW assist, I'm already wired for the GPS antenna?

Bump. Everything gone except BM53. If someone needs it, I'll take any decent offer to get it out my closet.

Hrmm . . . does anyone think it possible to use the BM53 to still have a radio but have the in-dash radio area clear for, say, mounting a tablet? Rather than stuffing the in-dash radio in the glovebox or down in the passenger footwell? I imagine there just aren't any aftermarket solutions (e.g. iOS, Android) for controlling the headless, trunk-mounted radio.

I know Dynavin has a nav unit based Android, which means they probably know how to interface with the various BMW components... Don't know if it'd work with the BM53 though.
