Well guys, I got bad news; I was woken up by the sounds of my car being hit in front of my house. A lady who lived up the street was taking her bleeding dog to the vet, looked down to adjust the blanket the dog was on, and bam! BMW. We got info sorted and I had my mother take her and the dog to the vet. We got a police report, swapped insurance, and I just spoke with her insurance. Hopefully we can get things sorted.

It just looks like cosmetic damage, but the car was parked in gear when it was hit, so there is a chance there is drivetrain damage. We will have to see. I havent tried to drive the car, other than back it up.

Quarter panels are a loss. I hate it when things like these happens. Another reason why I hate parking in the streets.

Idk man that might be a total loss..

the corner pannel is fu*cked, but that's relatively fixable.. but it also looks like that bottom section that runs between the trunk and the bumper is pretty messed up too..

Quarter panel is messed - smashed. I hate to say this but this is not repairable or wont be the same again. :( Sorry to see a beautiful Imola in this situation. :(

Their insurance told us to take it to a place with their reps. They quoted the damage at $4200. There is no drivetrain issues, but the suspension is shot. The guy only quoted for the body. He said that the suspension should be fine, but I can feel it sag in the rear and there is a wobble. I called Plaza BMW, who I bought the car from to do a comparative quote and they will do the work in the end. We will see what happens. I'll keep everyone up to date.

BTW, the dog is fine and she was a pretty pitbull.

Man! I hope the insurance co won't total your car but from the looks I wouldn't be surprised... I hope you will be able to get this repaired!

Legally they cannot tell you where to get the repairs. If fact, I wouldn't trust "their own people" even if it's on the up n up. Feel free to get an estimate from your own place, but let them know it will be through the others insurance. Sorry to hear this happened. GL with the fix.

I still owe 21k on the car, but I have gap coverage in the event it is totalled. I'm hoping for the best. If the car is totalled, I'm a bit screwed. I don't have money for another car. We will see what happens.

Make your neighbor pay for your new car. Who crashes into a parked car? I don't care if her dog was bleeding out on her nice seats, pay attention or call someone to do it for you.

This. This. This.

Insurance wants the cheapest route. It's usually not the best either.

Sorry to hear this happen to you man, it sucks

As much as it sucks to hear that probably needs to be totalled. Rear quarter damage on this chassis does not go well....in fact anything beyond outer panel damage on these unibody chassis styles is pretty difficult to fix at all let alone get it back to spec. They're going to need to patch in a new quarter and respray a majority of the car (i'd fight for a full respray with BMW original color).

If they refuse to total it i'd make it a hard and fast stipulation that she'll check out to factory alignment specs on the rack post repair work and that they add on a hefty diminished value settlement.

If they do total it get ready to fight tooth and nail over the value. They'll comp you to 200,000 mile 325i automatics selling for $7000.

Too many wounded ZHPs lately - hate to see this and the associated value battle occurring more than once.

I'm right there with you, what if it were a kid instead of my car? Either way, it happened and now we gotta fix what we can.

As far as the insurance thing goes, it's not my money, I don't care how much it costs. It's going to get fixed right or I won't accept it. 4200 is a bullshit quote, and that's why I'm taking it to the dealership. They know what it should be. We will see what happens, I won't accept substandard fixes.

Oh and I wish 21,000 was a typo. I bought it with 48k miles , clean, well maintained a year ago with a sticker of 19,600. After a 2k loss and a 3k warranty, it adds up.

Been there, done that....................good luck with car. Hope they will fix and not total. Looks repairable to me - I had similar event a few weeks ago and Progressive was determined to total the car.

Do you have the original window sticker? Progressive tried to use 325i sedans as comparative values. Make sure they use ZHPs for the valuation!

This is the shot I got from the first bimmerfest east of the zhp truck, very well done and the normal person on the street would definitely turn their head to look at it.

It went to the Atlanta insurance auction. Not sure exact location. I could have bought it for $3900 from Progressive. Thought about it - then took the settlement check and bought the C55 AMG. My ZHP was in great shape with higher miles - but I did not want to part it out myself and GA is starting to add more restrictions on the rebuilt title process. I was bummed out because I planned on buying another ZHP or M3 in the future and "sell" the AW ZHP to my son who just graduated college. Maybe he will get a C55 in a couple of years cheap............

Yeah, everything has been completely painless on my side other than having to drive a Mazda 6. That car is stupid, though I like the bluetooth. Ha. I'm going to talk to the dealership to see if I take a value hit on my car because of the accident. I would like to try to get some depreciation on the car from the insurance if I can. Not sure how that works though, or what the best bet for that is.

Alright, update time. I called the shop and it's going in for paint today. HOPEFULLY, I'll have it back, "good as new" by the end of next week. Longest 6 weeks ever. I'll be sure to post pics once I see it again.

damn, that sucks.

Good thing BMW has it, they should do good work using quality parts. Are they going to re-spray the whole car, or just blend the quarter panel and trunk?

Merritt07
11-25-2012, 07:38 PM
I think its just a blend.
I tried to push full respray, but the insurance wasnt feeling it. Im trying to still get some cash out of the insurance company for depriciation, but i talked to the dealer i bought it from and we are looking at 500 tops lost. I "may" pull a grand if im lucky and skilled.

Car is coming back to you, that is the best news. Personally I say get that lady for everything you can, like you said it could have been a kid she hit. All of this over a dog...

I know a lot of you are dog owners, but I have ZERO respect for pitbulls. I had to help/hold a little girl that was attacked by one until paramedics arrived. Awful experience.

That was my stance until I met a few pits my friends had raised which had been brought up properly. They acted just as docile as any other dog I had experience with... Dogs are a case by case thing with me... I assume they are aggressive (regardless of type) until they have proven otherwise with their behavior...

I got my car back, finally! 46 days and 1800 miles in that mazda 6 later. There are somethings that aren't quite right that im going to have them fix. The trunk line isnt perfect and a few other lines need touches. Also, when someone went over the roof with a buffer they caught the clear coat and now there are two lines. No paint damage. Im gunna look over the car again in the light tomorrow and make them a list for tuesday to fix it.

It's really really weird to be back into. It drives nothing like the mushbox, I mean Mazda. The steering wheel is the biggest difference; It resists so much more, it feels weird. As well, the Mazda didnt track like the ZHP does. It always feels like its pulling, which is normal for my car. I also am trying to get back into driving a stick efficiently, I gotta get back into the toe-heel downshifting.
